It's a lose/lose situation for them. Sell the game without that stipulation and they could be sued (has there ever been a suit filed against the CoX IP?). Don't sell the game and the PR disaster continues to escalate. Sooner or later investors are gonna want to know why the companies profits are down.

Selling the game without that stipulation would appear to be the lesser of two evils. They make some money off a property that is currently making none and put a stop to all the bad press. Yes, there is the outside chance of a lawsuit, but as I asked up above, has there ever been a suit filed against the COX IP?
meh, dont think it will be that big of a PR disaster. Profits seemed to be down anyways. If they didnt kill game, investors probably be on their case. If they did kill game players will be on their case. I guess they just tried to pick the lesser of the evils.

Think there was a claimed filed against them a while ago that was settled out of court but it was more about some in game items. Then since there havent been any lawsuits filed against the IP, then the buyer should have been more than willing to sign the papers. Sounds like the buyer wanted NCSoft to be on the hook over a product that they would no longer own.

I wouldnt sell a car if the buyer expected me to be responsible for all future repairs even though I would no longer own the car. If that would be the case then it's better off sitting in my driveway.

If a buyer signs on the dotted line with that stipulation they become solely responsible for the infringement and the actual responsible party walks away free and clear.
I think that is the point.

Being able to take that 5th pool instead of an patron/epic
Group the pools into T1 and T2 abilities and only require a T1 to access the T2s
Decent status protection in a couple of pools. Something that in principle could be available enough to be worthwhile. Available a quarter of the time at most and has to be pre applied doesn't cut it. If you have a toggle heavy build anything less than all the time doesn't cut it.

Edit: Forcing bad powers down people's throats isn't great game design. Great game design is making people have to choose between things they really want.

Yes there certainly were other factors that undoubtedly contributed to this game's sudden drop in revenue, but I believe that AE caused an ungodly amount of damage to the game that was simply unnecessary and unforeseen but sadly irreversible.

It's my belief only, and whilst I fully understand and respect that others might not share that belief - it doesn't make me wrong.

  6. Do anyone have any information of what really went on with those negotiation talks?

Lot of possibilities can happen. And all we have now is what NCSOft says and bunch of rumors and second third or fourth hand information. What seems like a "reasonable" offer to the potential buyer can be viewed as a scoff worthy offer by the seller and vice versa.

That sounds like standard procedure of any company washing their hands completely of a product. No one wants to get sued over something that they do not own/control any longer and or not making money from. Sounds like it was suppose to be something like "Here, if you buy it now you're buying it as-is with no gurantees and anything that happens from this point you are responsible."

Sounds like the people that was looking to buy didnt want to take any risk and expect NCSoft to hold the risk in something they would no longer own. No wonder NCSoft held on to it. That is assuming what is stated above is and were to be the case. No one wants to be sued over something they have no control over any longer. It's like if they did recieve a C&D order over old content and NCSoft contacts the new company and say remove said content but new owner refuses and thus NCSoft gets sued. No risk to the new owner.

Mostly on Virtue. Dont think I have any characters left on that server that are able to do them. Never was able to form a team for the shard there so I moved them to Virtue as a couple of people said I would have more luck there. Lo and behold, no luck, although was able to gather 7 other nutcases to do a Dr. Q one time (Done it in 3.5 hours that run and that was taking the time in missions and killing everything we came across and or knew was on the map). Besides that one time no such luck with any of the others. OVer the years I have managed to do each of them one time at least.

Wish a team wasnt required at al for those things and it would of been alot better. Too much content that was interesting was team based.

  10. I think COX is it's own animal and going to just about any MMO, especialy one that is super hero themed and expecting it to be like COX or play like it or do things like it is a setting up for failure as no game will measure up and be a clone of COX.

One thing I do like about CO though is that if you are talking to a contact npc, especially one that is "hero" they dont just stand there and let you get ya face smashed in. They actually react.

Defender--lol. yea, he is one goofy character and the tutorial I actually liked because it actually prepares you for what to expect when coming in contact with tougher opponents. I hate tutorials that is all easy, nigh waste of time, only to get in game and things are nowhere near in the same league of difficulty as the tutorial.

Black Talon is a challenge at firts but once you done it, he's fairly easy and simple to beat. Dont be too proud to block and move around is the main thing and if needed, by that time there should be a heal thing in the inventory.

Not sure how some people as they posted get choppy movements. CO plays smooth if not smoother and more fluid than COX. Did they try to check and adjust settings?

And the lack of teaming here is kind of a pro for me. It's nice being able to actually play just about the entire game and not worry about "peak time" or slow days, or if people are interested or just did it, or waiting for people and etc. Just log on and go. Wanna do an Alert and team, the que in the game actually works and not much wait time. Then if a perso nwant to team it's easy to do to. In COX, there are times where teaming takes way too long but progress cant be made towards the goal without a team. Spend more time forming a team then doing the actual event.

The main though is people have to realize that Champions Online is not COX and never will be nor any other game will be unless it is The one and only City of Heroes and or Villians.

Oh yea like the fact that the CO enemy actualy prefer to fight instead of seeing most of their backsides running for the hills like in COX.
  11. Wished I could have gotten at team together more often to do the Shard TFs. Or made a SG with member that was interested in and or didnt mind doing shard TFs.
  12. While none was particularly troublesome over all, just got tired of CoT by level 35. I mean there is always too many CoT missions from 5-50. Very few mob groups have that wide range of level range besides Longbow/PPD of course a major arm of the hero side crime fighting team, and Arachnos/RIP, the main villain group that rules Rogue Isle. Then there is CoT who could of been relegated to a set level range like the rest of them. I think the freakshow had a more interesting background, even Carnies, or just about any other villain group besides CoT who only involvement with them is stopping some crazy ritual, stealing a book, or saving a few citizens on an over sized map.

At first it was "Dang, a CoT mish full of ghosts this is going to be interesting."

By 15 it's "Well here go another CoT mish with a big map and defeat all and or find a book in a tiny corner."

By 20 it's "Didnt I do this about 10 times already?"

25- "Really? Why not take the whole library while we here instead of running back and forth

30- "What the hell do CoT have to do with stopping the Freakshow (and or some other irrelevant villain group)?"

    35-50 "Ok, this is bunk."

I think they had too many bosses that kind of killed the prestige of that title, although I didnt mind that so much as it was good xp but it seemed anyone could be a mage.

They can even take off and land by themselves if we would let them do it. The only problem I have is that when computers mess up, they do so spectacularly, as with Toyota's computer glitches with brakes a couple years ago and the weird bug that turned Prius headlights off at night. Of course, *any* system can go tits up at any moment, but I find computers to be a bit more unreliable than mechanical doohickeys. I don't find it reassuring that it's common practice to ship cars with what amounts to beta-test-level software that they patch as they go. (Even the most expensive cars do this.) It's also a little unnerving that often the solution to a glitch your car is having can be rectified by unplugging the battery for half an hour, thus resetting the computer to the factory specs.

Beyond driving vintage/antique cars there are few designs where computer glitches are not a possibility, even if they remain less likely than mechanical failures.
yep I realize that but still require driver imput to start process and drive. Now this is totally different animal where human imput is not eve needed to do anything even control.

And I wouldnt say no possibility with the glitches as I have seen many glitches in many of those systems before. Everything from the starting system, abs, transmission gear selection, safety mode, firing order, amount of fuel, etc.
and the brakes still work even if the abs system goes kaputz.

So if someone goes wrong wit ha system and the car crashes, is it the driver's fault for not staying up and paying attention ready to take control if some component fails or is it the maufactuer's fault?

More than likely the manufactuer will still add in an override feature of some sort and or auto drive being something the driver must actually "press" or engage with a warning label of still the driver must remain alert and injuries that happen due to inattention of the driver is sole responsibility of the driver. Which in a way defeats the purpose a car that drive it own self.

Sometimes I wonder how much did those people actually offer. I mean just because a buyer comes to the table and think that the stuff is worth only 2 million and are serious about it doesn make it really a serious offer in NCSoft eyes if they are not planning on letting it go for less than 10 million or some number like that, giving that since the game was profitable. Maybe the two parties couldnt agree to what the IP is worth. Anybody know exactly what the IP is worth?

More recently, there's Cormac McCarthy, who wrote The Road and No Country For Old Men, which were both turned into recent movies. He's highly regarded in some literary circles, has won a Pulitzer Prize and a US National Book award for his work, but after wading through one of his books, I'll be damned if I'll ever touch another one because:

McCarthy "does not use quotation marks for dialogue and believes there is no reason to 'blot the page up with weird little marks,'") which makes him a tradition-breaking trend-setter but also (IMHO) negatively impacts the readability of his books.

When all is said and done, does it really matter in the end if they win this round? There's a lot of buzz going around in the online gaming world that the MMORPG may be entering its twilight years as gamers are losing interest in them as time moves on. There are many reasons for this: The most important of which is that the demographic that made World Of Warcraft so huge (Generation Y) has aged and is now concentrating on other things such as families or careers.

In the end, given NC Soft's recent financial woes and MMO companies trying to steal players from one another from a dwindling pool of MMORPG players, don't you think that NC Soft will eventually "get theirs"? I certainly believe they will. Why? Well, MMO's aren't necessarily growing per se; there seems to be the same demographic and population of players shifting from the newest game to the next.

One indication of this is the user attrition that World Of Warcraft is experiencing. Many of those in the gaming world have known for a very long time that W.O.W.'s American subscribers began to move on years ago and that with Blizzard's expansion into the Chinese market, on paper it made it seem as if everything was fine and that the existing players were there to stay. Within a few years time those bolstered numbers were soon revealed as only a stopgap: Blizzard went from boasting of having over 13 million subscribers to our current day's numbers of nearly half that. The MMO pool is shrinking, my friends, and all NC Soft can ever hope for (if Guild Wars 2 is an overwhelming success) is to steal a piece of that ever growing stale piece of pie.

My point of all of this is that given the plight of the current world economy, NC Soft's financial distress, NC Soft's rudderless management (as expressed by former NC Soft employees), and the aging of the MMO target demographic, I have sincere doubts that NC Soft will be the same semi-large developer it is today 5 to 10 years from now. Even though City Of Heroes will be gone within the next two months, realize that mismanagement brings misfortune and NC Soft's house of cards will soon come tumbling down if they keep up with their shady business tactics. Let us not forget that almost every major financial move made by NC Soft in the past ten years has been a half baked gambit to turn a profit or stay afloat. With business executives making those types of decisions at the helm, there is no chance in hell they'll ever be the success they aim to be in the end.

  22. NCSoft killed about 4 games in the past? From the posts aroun the forums, it would seem those games either wasnt generating money, was losing money at their closing, or dead in the water, all except this game. Maybe they seen the revenue slipping and wanted to end it before they loose money like the last four?

Females dont play video games is what you are saying? I dont know many in my circle but I know more than few female gamers.

About the relevant part, which is really not much different than many posts on the subject. Difference is that this is my take on it and same with many other threads I created. Now many subjects that I just come up with that is new.

It may not be relevant to everyone but it is to me and to me that is what matters. You can beleive what you want to believe and call me a man or whatever but that is all I have to say on that subject.

And speaking of trolling, I dont think I say one single thing insulting to anyone in that post yet, there is one particular person here that is obvious trolling yet not a single person called him out on it. Just me and my thread because it wasnt up to their standards, too long for them, not a subject they are interested in and I'm the one trolling. Go figure.
