Running Vista and updated to the new Nvidia Driver, 158.18, for my GeForce 8800 GTX. CoH launches by changing the display to 8-bit color and saying my card does not support some DirectX items "You card or driver doesn't support GL_EXT_compiled_vertex_array", etc. Then it tells me to switch to 32-bit color and finally that my card is not supported. I tried going back to an earlier working driver but that did not fix the problem.
Suggestions?

You might have set some options in the nvidia control panel that are not compatible with the game. Also I wanted to ask how did you install your drivers. Sometimes they dont install right when you use the nvidia installer. That is why you should use the update a driver wizard in the device manager. -
Poo-mans resists are high enough to last against them. It would take a sonic defender or troller and an empath just to keep him alive. How often do you see anyone playing sonic resonance? Like almost never.
-
My second attempt at the STF failed last night. I mostly blame it on our empath quiting on the first mission. We did good until the Aeon fight but eventually we beat him. When we got to the last mission the big four slaughtered us, we could not single pull at all for some reason. I am begining to think we may need to use other tactics to get this to work consistantly. Does anyone know if sleeps work on the big four? 2 mind controllers with power boosted mesmerize would rock if sleeps work. Does anyone know if Recluese can be slept? That would be an ideal way to deal with him until the towers fell who knows? But then again against +4 AVs the durations would be awful. Maybe some set IOs would make the difference here?

She can Hold through Granite + Rooted. That's 33 mag of protection. It's got to be more than a mag 20 hold.

QFT, when I ran the TF our tanker got held immediately and he had 4 CM's on him. -
I think for the most part a good mix of powersets are the key to this especially the final mission. You need a good tank, you need a troller with an aoe immobilize, you need a stormy or a bubbler with force bubble, and you need range damage. Having too much melee damage means ghost widow has plenty of targets to heal off of.
-
Just finished this TF. Man it was nice. I only have 1 complaint, what is the deal with no rewards for the AVs? I felt kinda cheated in the end. I only got 3 recipes for the whole thing. If they dont trust us not to farm this TF then they at least need to put the rewards at the end of the mission if there are multiple AVs that dont trigger mission complete we still get something out of this. I do feel they need to beef up the first 4 misisons with the AVs because they die so quick compared to how they die on the Recluse Strike Force, I feels like we are cheating but we are not.

Not sure if this has been asked because I have not read any of this thread, but is there a Storyline specific reason as to why Statesman is in Independence Port and not Peregrine Island? This sort of makes no sense for him to be there. It is already hard enough to recruit for it especially if all the level 50s are in a completely different zone? Is there any chance he could just be put in Peregrine Island?
-
Overall I think the changes are great but I feel it is a little tech heavy now. I would change Legacy Chain and Luddites to magic if I were the devs. The outcasts and trolls could have been a mix group. My only fear is that in the 40s it does not leave many options for magic. I dont fight CoT or Carnies if I can help it at all.

add the tag -cov to your short cut. Honestly it should not matter the splash screen is just there for start up, it will only show you what you should have access to. Dont think of coh and cov as diffierent games, It is the same game it just lets you have access to different ATs. So the install for coh is the same for cov. The start up screens are different that is all.

Any chance Positron can make a badge for Quinfecta? Like let it have a counter that tells how many times you get it over the career of your heroe or villain?
-
My first Pool B recipe was for lvl 43 Mako's Bite Damage/End. I hope this helps.
-
I been meaning to ask about these. Do they work at the full value listed on the enhancement, like 10% resistance or is this something that you have to get at lvl 50 to get the full 10% resistance value? If that is the case then you could just get a lvl 35 IO for this and it would still work like the lvl 50 version of the same enhancement?

Here is a link to Vista Hotfixes that are not publicly available to all people via windows update. There are quite a few hot fixes that are specifically for home premium or ultimate vista systems so you guys may want to check these out. A couple of these fixes are driver related. What I would do is go to microsofts support site and type in the kb number of the file and search for that. Like for instance vista has issues with copying files over the network and kb931770 fixes this issue.

OK, you are now my hero. You have no idea how often I KNOW what hotfix I need, but having to go through the hassle of calling Microsoft to get it is ridiculous. This site is fantastic.

One other fix I want to add. I know some folks hate the User Access Control. There is a way to stop it on CoX without actually turning it all the way off. Just copy your current city of heroes folder to another location. Delete the old folder. Do a regular install using the cd/dvds for any of the city of games. Instead of repatching everything just copy the contents of your city of heroes folder back to its original location and overwrite all the files there. This fix is for the people that used the updater to install the game instead of the cd/dvds. -

I installed City of Villains and can't see my mouse cursor. I've tried the solutions here, but none of them work... I tried them several times.
I have INVIDIA Geforce 6150 LE running.
I'm not sure if this will help, but I'm also running AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ CPU.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

You dont have a real graphics card, onboard video is very bad for this game especially with Vista. You best bet is to get another graphics card. Even if this card worked you would get the worst performance with it. -

We accomplished that goal, but in the end some of the Archetypes felt left out, since they didnt have the build to contribute to the huge Archvillain fights that the Lord Recluse Strike Force was built around (we took our learnings forward from this).
[/ QUOTE ]
SOME of the ATs felt left out!?!?!?! Um try more then half. It has been proven that Doms, Stalkers, and MM can contribute to it. Though usually ATs just still come along mostly as veng fodder.
I am hopeful that they are not goning to make the same mistake they did with the end of Recluse's challenge.

I could not agree more. I am already disgusted with this and it has not even gone to test yet. I just feel that they really go over board with the whole Good always has to beat Evil thing. This is why the RSF will never be balanced. If the Statesman TF allows all AT equal roles I am really going to be pissed at this TF. At this point even if they go back and change the SF the damage is already done. It would have to some over the top changes that would make the whole SF uber easy if you had all villain ATs instead of the 1 */stone brute and 7 */rad corrupter setup. That will be the only way things will change for the better. I know the RSF is beatable with a mixed team, the time I did it was a mixed team but when the majority feel you need the uber team setup then it just makes it that much harder for things to finally change. -

...Also the sewer trial may need attention as you can be level 50 fighting greys throughout on it (barring about 15 seconds while you grab a cannon) and do it comfortably in 30 mins, I did for the badges...
[/ QUOTE ]
No, please don't change this TF. It is insane any other way. It took an hour using this method.
[/ QUOTE ]
I really agree with this. That trial is so out of whack now. There is no way I would do it without exploiting now. The reward for the time investment is just not worth it since they nerfed the kraken babies. -

Ya see, this is the guy who constantly brags about soloing AVs and such. All he is determined to do is to get other people nerfed.

Well good for you.
You're in a rather small minority. You're what datamining dismisses as an anomoly.

I really dont think it is the case. If he is able to do these things he should keep his mouth closed about it and not put stuff like this on the boards. This is what leads to nerfs and such. If they were to nerf everytime someone like him posts stuff like this on the boards pretty soon no one will doing hardly anything as PUG. It will only be l337 players in certain SG/VGs that will be able to do the trials and such. For those groups I can see folks easily being eliminated just because you have the wrong build. How unfair will this be to the casual gamer that does not read the boards. I really fear for the casual gamer at this point because everything will be so beyond their reach. -
I am still trying to figure out as to why they dont realize this will kill any teaming already have. First off it will be very hard to get 8 people to all be doing the same story arc at the same time. It is hard enough getting people together to even do TFs/SFs. The issue with those is that sometimes the xp is so good you level so fast and you would end up missing out on your arcs. Because recipes dont scale backwards( a level 50 recipe made into a lvl 35 IO) you will have huge gaps in where the IO recipes simply wont be enough in certain level ranges unless you get drops like crazy.

* Missing (invisible) objects on mission maps.
thanks for the update Posi - it would be REALLY helpful and appreciated if NCSoft would step up GM response time to items a team can't fix - in the last two weeks my SG has needed GM assistance 4x and in each time waited over 45 mins, 2x on TFs (including yours)
they need to step up while we have issues a player can't address.....
[/ QUOTE ]
This is the primary reason as to why I dont do TF/SF/Trials. The in-game help response time is way too slow. I have never had an issue to be resolved the same day. I just dont understand why it is so bad for this game. You would think on a Sunday Night at 4a.m. hardly anyone would be on, so there is just no excuse for it. I really feel for the TF/SF/Trials there needs to be special in-game help for that since it is not content that can be skipped around. -

Pet AI across the board is pretty bad and long due for some fixin.
[/ QUOTE ]
Here's an interesting example. I solo my Dark Miasma characters a lot. I use my pet to soak the "alpha strike" from bosses a lot. I summon him right on the boss.
Typcial spanws are a boss and one minion.
My pet invariably begins to mez and debuff the minion. Always. Every time. Without fail. My strategy ends up being to try non-damaging effects to keep the boss off my pet (his PBAoE effects at least draw the boss's initial aggro) until I can defeat the minion.
Yeah, I have a system that works given what the AI does, but why on earth is his AI like that? Attack the least scary foe first? Bah!
[/ QUOTE ]
It does not make sense for the to attack higher ranked foes. First off the pet powers will not have enough magnitude to even effect a boss so there is no point in attacking it unless you had a power to stack it with. This is probably why they do that. -

[ QUOTE ]
I can promise you this, if Pet A.I. ever gets fixed you will see healthier numbers of people playing different powersets instead of the constant FoTM builds.
[/ QUOTE ]
I doubt that. I really doubt that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Think about this, why do you think there were so many Fire/kin or illusion/rad controllers as opposed to other controllers sets? Because all the non-fire and non-illusion sets have a much slower time soloing. Some people can deal with the sucky pets but many cant. I am not saying everyone needs to level at break neck speed but at the same time it should not be slower than grass growing. If the pets were more reliable in that aspect you have more folks playing the other sets. Ask any earth controller they will tell you the earth pet sucks. Damage is king in this game it is easy to tell that, having very slow or low damage will make folks either team constantly just to level or they will re-roll another set just to solo easier. Look at masterminds for instance you would see more folks picking thugs if the bruiser was not retarded and doing handclap scattering all the mobs out of aoes. Sure you can not give him upgrades but you end up with a bruiser with not a full attack chain. There are just so many possiblities if the pets worked. I think if the A.I. issues were worked out we would see more folks trying out the other powersets.
