All it takes now is to get your story arc noticed in the first place.... *cough sig *cough *cough

I'm not going anywhere near that arc... nasty cough you have there. cant be too careful these days.

my coats the shiney rubber one with the air tank and self contained environment control.
  4. how about an option in the comment/review to select AT and level that played through it, also an option to say if it was played solo or by a team.

It would give some perspective to the review and might make it easier to find a mission that would suit your play-style/circumstance.

eg: one mans "too easy" comment from his lvl 35 SS/SD brute might be completely untrue for a lvl 25 emp/dark fender.

    ratings for enemy groups:
    design
    Cohesion
    Background
    descriptions
    Challenge (quantified by AT/level)

A link to a .critter file for downloads ?

that way you can either open it with notepad or just save it straight to your MA folder.
  5. suggested this a long long time ago...

to use the city information terminals as a bulletin gboard system for players to organise / advertise groups.

but, as with almost all suggestions made on the forums, it has long slipped into the forum recycle bin

You could also use it as a team notification board: team leaders set their teams to be open or closed , if open, their name appears on the board along with a brief description of what they are doing ( RWZ arc lvl 38+ etc )

if a player is interested in joining, he clicks a + button which sends a notification to the team leader. when he gets time the leader can check his notifications and send out invites or reject an application. Once full or happy with what they have, the leader can close the team which takes it off the board.

same could be done for a TF being organised for a future date:

TF at 7pm friday the Xth
    Sign up below:
player clicks yes or no button

time of TF, leader goes through the list in order and sends invites by clicking "invite" or "refuse request".

    sorted.

no need to contact anyone else, multipe advertisements can be run simultaenously (too many MotDs and you dont bother reading it as it zips past!).

    so, /signed from me

    E I, E I, D'oh!

as one poster already pointed out, remove the ability to play missions above your level.

This wont stop farming, but it will cut down the amount of it and will cut down the number of all level 1 toons playing level 50 content.

This will also force players to wait to fight the better mobs. Hellions/skulls = lowbie, rikti/DE/nemesis=high level.

Players can still go from level 1 to level 50 through MA but just like any Task Force, you cannot play content above your level (SK'd or not). The Arc minimum level becomes the minimum level for entry. An arc that has level 1 mobs followed by level 50 mobs would then just be badly designed as the level 1 player that starts and then enters mission 2 would get wiped repeatedly.

PS: I agree with the remove INF idea: its a virtual stage so where's the fame coming from? no-one else sees what you do (how many civilians have you seen inside the arcs? how many civillians outside the MA building comment on what you have achieved? "Hey I heard Hero played video games while Skyway city got stomped by an invasion of giant monsters! what a git..")

Without INF: the farmers can only earn Tickets. They sell these on the market for inf to buy what they want ==> the market still benefits from supply but the amount of "currency" in circulation is brough tunder control which should help reduce the current inflation of even the lowest Proc. I forget which one I was looking at but it was 80 million for a level 10 recipe... there goes my hopes of having the set...unless i farm for inf in the architect missions... wait! forget everything I just said!
  9. one popped into my head on the walk into work this morning... which was weird because I honestly wasnt thinking about CoH on the way in..

  10. thanks for the review much appreciated.

I'm thinking I might actually take your suggestion and expand the bosses individualy and spread the story over three shorter arcs instead of squishing it into the one.

    some comments:

    Mission 1:
BSOD: personally I like him and I wanted to bring him back in the future, this served more as an introduction than anything else (I'd like to give him a show of his own).

    Mission 2:
didnt realise I hadnt given warning about the 60 minute limit. I'll correct that one.

Probably didnt get the point across (its a fine line between spoon feeding and hinting!) but the freakshow are looking for Hexx and using the second console to decrypt his security passwords to access the protected storage.

point taken, and I'll re-write to make it clearer. Possibly something spreadign the arc out would help with.

    Mission 3:
Meant to be an easy one to be honest. didnt see that message about the objectives being destroyed.. didnt do that in the last incarnation so no idea why its doing it now (i didnt change that mission).

On returning, the AE system tracks the energy source (where it is coming from) , will make that clearer too.

    Mission 4:
Need to edit it to make it clearer again (sorry!). In essence the protected area was set up by Hexx for the circle, which is why the code is familiar to AE but still not actually hexx's work.

I'll remove mez protection from the mobs. They dont need it in hindsight and it would ruin solo-ability for fenders/controllers. Its all about the balance.

Redvik: a literally last minute addition but the more I've thought about it the more I like him and I agree, I have to expand on him in the future (again an argument for a seperate arc).

    Mission 5:
again clearer briefing required. In essence it doesnt matter if Hexx has done anything wrong or not, AE wants him gone.

As for the length, I was afraid of making too large a map and stretching the players patience.

Cant tell whether you like the fact that the contact was reset or not. Was a melancholic ending good or bad? It is supposed to show AE's uncaring business side. you fulfill your contractual duties. thats it. your job is done as required by the agreement and by the agreement you dont get anything extra. Not hugely heroic, i know, but I also want it to be "realistic" for villains to accept as well.

    Overall:

thanks, I'll have a hunt for typos and grammar issues. personally I hate writing on a keyboard, I prefer pen and paper but its the system we have to work with.

3 bosses. I'll up Hexx to EB status. if I spread thigns out then I can flesh out each boss a bit more. I personally found Hexx more interesting than BSOD but with the limitations of MA I found it hard to get his backstory across. Redvik, as i said, a last minute addition but his character has opened up a lot more ideas for the overall arc.

I'll leave this one up for now and make the changes and I'll give you a shout when I have my BSOD feature up and running. (but it will mean mixing real world with the simulation which is not really what i wanted to do).

anyway, thank you very much for the review. Its very much appreciated.

PS. BlackICE in this context was taken from Neuromancer by William Gibson that I read a long long time ago and really stuck with me over the years... must give it a read again.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuromancer (glossary section) this was the direction I was hoping for with the neon-effect samurai

I'd like to throw mine back into the review queue along with one addition (very short)

    ARCID: 143449
    NAME: AE Combat Evaluator
description: a straightforward PvP simulation program. what could possibly go wrong ?
    details:
    5 maps.
no AV , no EB. solo-able. custom mobs. all maps ghostable.

    levels: 20 +

also I have a short mission to present:

    ARCID: 143311
    NAME: Deep Deep Down
desc: a mine collapse, resuce the miners single map.
    level: 5-14

  14. I thought the 4th anniverdsary PDF calendar was great. I knew when events were starting and could set aside time for them.

any sign of an updated calendar for the next year ?
  15. thanks for the reply. unfortunately that kills that idea

think I'll change the EB into several identical Lts... might do the trick better. 10 lts would still be a challenge... sort of...
  16. My name's Ramon, you might remember me from such faceplants as "Evangel meets Hami" and "AlwaySultra forgets which pwoer is which and lets her entire team die while healing herself" and the upcoming future cult classic "Melvin gets stomped by Mako"...

I also am not intending to go anywhere. I like the game. I get what I pay for, I pay to play the game I'm in, not to play what the game could be in a year.

I will , of course, be looking at CO and I may even move to it if its good enough but that wont be any reflection on whether or not a update was released.
  17. I've no idea what to try next:

my intended single Eb ambush sprung when a Boss is 1/4 health is not working as planned.

the way its set up currently:

Boss 1 is in his own group (badboss)
    his spawn is from "custombad"

on hitting 1/4 health the boss reveals his secret weapon, an EB (EB1) who is the ONLY member of badambush1.

this worked fine while testing solo but as soon as I tested with a group, I got 10 EB1s.... making the rest of the fight impossible.

So, (and I have tried searching) , how do I get the EB to spawn alone in the ambush ? Note: the EB is not required to finish the mission. I'd like to give solo players a chance to finish off the boss and run if they feel like it.
  18. removing my arc 101282 from rotation for now.

Found a severe problem with one of the EB fights. He calls a one mob ambush (and it was only one mob when I tested it) but when I played with a group the ambush was 10 of the same mob... impossible to beat.

I'll edit it and re-submit once its fixed.

  20. ah sorry, misunderstood your question.

could it be connected to the "download updates once you log out" i wonder ?
  21. oh, and its not ingame but I find this useful..

    http://www.rpgnexus.org/salvage/

    doesnt do common IOs though.

note: its a bit out of date at this stage.
  22. a pop up shopping list that you can fill in yourself (or copy/paste from outside) would be nice.

items on the list are colour coded:
    Green if on your person
    Yellow if in the vault
Orange if on the auction house
perhaps blue if they are stored in SG storage.
red if you dont have it

so, you have a list of 4xancient bone, 2xboresight, 3xsteel it appears like:
    ancient bone
    ancient bone
    ancient bone
    ancient bone
    boresight
    boresight
    steel
    steel
    steel

and the entries get colour coded accordign to which category they satisfy first from top to bottom.

woudl be nice.. not sure if its do-able though.
  23. put a tick box to "never show this again" and make it possible to re-activate it if you change your mind in future and I'll slap a /Signed on this
  24. TCP/IP packets use error checking so that if a packet isnt received it is requested again, re-sent by the server and then when all packets are received they are put in order and presented to the user (a basic description, not 100% accurate).

If CoH used TCP/IP for game data updates, you would get *a lot* of dithering and delays as you waited for all packets to be received before you saw the position/change in your curroundings.

UDP doesnt care. it just streams a load of data at you, if some goes missing it ignores it and continues to receive packets. hence you might get a bit of jumpiness as packets are lost but you see the end result.

media streamers are the same. live broadcasts use UDP otherwise you would get either a: serious delay as all packets are resent and then arranged for presentation or b: garbled rubbish as the packets are presented as they arrive without any order , a re-requested packet would arrive a few seconds after it should have been shown.

admittedly, newer games can use tcp/ip connections and use their own inbuilt engine to filter unwanted packets but CoH is 5 years old

Its not wrong, its a good thing. nothing to worry about.
