Quote:Yes I have an alt I specifically designed to do tips quickly. I play an ITF each night to get 3 tips. The following morning I do those tips (almost always popping 2 more tips doing the 3) and 2 more. Usually we're talking 18-30 mins....unless I get a phone call or something. You want to know something? The alt doesn't have a single set which costs more than 100M for the whole set slotted. I think the coolest things I have slotted are the numina and miracle uniques. You really don't need 2B IOs to do impressive things in this game, it just makes them a little easier.I do the 5 tip missions very regularly. It usually takes me about an hour, slightly more. Am I also doing this wrong? You can get a tip in 1 minute, load door and finish mish in 3 minutes (getting next tip in mish), get to/load door/finish mish/unload in 5 min, also getting tip for next, repeat 3 more times for twenty minutes total? WOW You are soooooooooo cool. I wanna learn to be just like you.
Anybody else do 5 tips + 5 tip missions in twenty minutes every night, then blast out the Morality, let me guess, in 4 minutes more? -
Quote:We are not going to deal with the real world economy here. This is a game system economy meant to increase the enjoyment of average gamers. Yes, I keep using the word average, I know I do high level content, please refrain from pointing it out.
As far as why the amounts here are wrong, 2 Billion + per enhancer in this game economy is stupid, IMO. It tells the average gamer they will never get it. Or, under the new system, spend about 2 + months constant effort to get that one I/O, then still need 5 more of the set. For ONE enhancement set, still needing 8-10 more sets for the character to be finished. A little discouraging? A LOT discouraging. Discouraging is bad for a video game. Period. It is stupid to discourage paying customers, therefore, the price is stupid. The Devs need to look at classic conle games like Armored Core, which had diminishing returns for unlockable content, took a long time to master/complte (not YEARS) and was total fun. Why would not finishing a character end the game? 36 slots per server........
Which set has more than 1 or 2 enhancers selling over the 2B mark? Do you even research these things in advance? You've been offered significant suggestions more than once on how to acquire the items you desire (of which only a couple are truely over 2B) and continued to ignore them.
When presented with in-game examples you've called on real world examples....when those are presented you've said to stay within the game. I thought you were a genuine person with a genuine concern at one point, but I'm assuming at this point you aren't really. -
Quote:Given your allies and the fact that you're set on Kin.....I'd go with dark/kin cor or kin/dark defender. Adding the to_hit debuff from dark blast will make the enemy hit much less often and with a brute, a kin, and a rad troller you'll want that more than a little more damage.does this controller method work even on bosses and is it good in Task Force missions.
I should have mentioned I would like to do those as well.
I have two RL friends I will be hunting with for the most part.
One is a ss/sd brute and the other is a plant/rad controller.
I am looking for something that would complement them as well.
I know Kinetics will be one of my powers. I just cant seem to choose the second one.
To be honest I was not expecting the controller would be the pick.
I thought maybe the defender because of the fact they can get more defense.
I read something like 45 S/L/E 45 Range not sure if that can be done or not though. -
They're still the same devs so, yeah. Redside has always been an afterthought except in i6 and i12. Which is too bad because CoV is actually a bit better designed than CoH was as the devs learned from some of their mistakes in CoH (no wasted hazard zones like Boomtown, etc etc).

Let me know asking price and level in private message or by posting here.

Quote:I remember the electricity manipulation part. I doubt thats what BC was talking about. Anyhows, the problem in California was because you had aspects of the free market (wholesale suppliers could charge whatever) and aspects of price caps/regulation (the energy companies had price caps). So if thats what he was talking about I'm not sure how his example helps his arguement. Just for the record I support fully regulated utilities because there is more value added from economies of scale and non-overlap of universally used services like these than competition can overcome. No state or country has seen consumer prices drop from deregulating utilities yet and I don't suppose they will anytime soon.Enron also messed with the pricing of electricity on the power grid, causing brownouts, forcing power companies to have rolling blackouts in California, and caused the price of electricity to skyrocket.
That was market manipulation at its worst, but everyone has forgotten about that and only remembers the stock market angle.

Quote:What you're proposing is to have all recipes (and every other item) in the game available for a set price without a supplier needed.....as if perhaps Statesman runs BM Farm all day and will sell at those prices or something. This would immediately make inf worth a lot more because with the deflation it would cause it would allow people with large piles of inf to put max-builds on more toons. Despite the fact that this would make me have much more purchasing power immediately and going forward, I see 0% chance for the devs agreeing. They have set the drop rates for ultra-rare (check the meaning of that sometime) drops somewhere between 2500 kills and 4000 kills for purples and something equally ridiculous for PvPs (200-400 kills with a 5 min cooldown on each target).
Oh, and prequel to the ideas hinted at before when I said I would be writing the devs. (Begging for insults, I know)
Here goes. How about the Market has a "Buy it Now" option on everything. Every single item, salvage, recipe (maybe not crafted enhancers?), wings, etc. Have enhancers be 2x what is found at the stores. Have salvage be a % above what they are bought back by the stores, Maybe 100x?, so 250 common salvage is Buy it Now at 25000 at market. Recipes, depending on type, up to 500 Mil Buy it now PvP, 250 Mil Purp, 200 Mil Global/Proc, 125 Mil Fancy recipe, and 50 Mil common recipe, or some such. In this way the Devs can control the Market price, by simply saying, "it is stupid to pay more than X amount for something, equivalent to approx X hours at 50 content, and our more average players will not be ripped off by market griefers, so we protect our game/investment by protecting the bulk of our players from the few "I wanna be Enron" types every game accumulates. It would also still keep the market active in the areas under the cap, lots of Purps sell below 250, same PvP. Lots of common salvage sells for below 25k, so the market would still be viable, just capped by common sense tops the Devs institute.
Okay, let me have it (especially you Enron-types). But seriously, any thoughtful feedback on this? Thanks.
They JUST added a new way to get these items with alignment merits although the purples and PvP IOs are extraordinarily expensive under this new method.
Given that they set the drop rates very high AND recently made an alternate way to get them which is also a significant grind, why do you think they'll suddenly change their minds?
I have seen that logic hasn't convinced you of anything in this thread as of yet. And I'm quite sure you'll continue to believe that marketeers are "stealing" inf from players rather than charging a fee to the BUY IT NAO! crowd for the convenience of knowing that most items will be in stock. But you have to see that the devs have clearly made their intentions to PvP and Purple IO recipes rarity clear.......they want them ultra-rare.
Other MMOs have significantly worse grinds AND require the top gear to do some content. Going forward with incarnates I think CoX will look more like those other games rather than even easier to get the best stuff.
Good Luck with your letter though, all it could do is make me effectively richer.
E.E.
P.S. Enron had nothing to do with manipulating the stock market...excepting the price of own stock which they used to cross-collteralize their off-balance sheet debt which by the very nature of being off-balance sheet increased their share price. If you want to toss around smarmy comments at people using hot-buttons, at least learn about the hot-button words you're tossing around first. -
O.K. So no interest in making a syndicate (the correct term here....cabals are for power not money) to maximize our profits. Good to know. Someone make sure everyone knows that even though we made a SG together we don't cooperate on what we sell.
I'm not in it to lower prices through competition. I'm in it to make the 225B more I need for #1 on freedom.....or more likely given they are not an unmoving target the roughly 450B I'll need over the next 18 mos. -
Quote:Agreed. We're much more like a Federal Reserve system with market trading than a simple investment bank.Indeed. However, if the devs are ever in need of a little cash, they know who to come to...
Btw: Do we want to cooperate to make sure we're not invading each other's niches or would that be too oligarchical and collusive for everyone.
I guess we should put all that somewhere out of the forums too like an email list or something. -
Quote:You're not farming a niche. You're taming it and making it more predictable. Before I was working Oblit procs the high sell prices on the IO were in the range of 70M and the lows were around 250k. Folks who were really patient might do better in this system than under my managed niche, but most players I believe prefer a somewhat predictable sales price not one which varies by a factor of 280. After I took over I initially was selling most of my IOs at 50M.....that lasted all of 2 days and it restabilized at a new equilibrium price of 35M per IO. As you can see as the niche matured it dropped to 20M but input prices dropped as well so I kept playing it and making inf. This isn't a case of "farming" the niche by removing supply. All the supply makes it back to the market. I don't delete some IOs to artificially keep prices high or something.Okay, this is confusing. A good percentage of posters to this thread have been yelling at me to shut up and start making money in the market by finding my own "niche" and farming it.
You're complaining about how scarce resources are distributed. Since you have a nice build already and just want the last 3-5 shinies to go with it I don't get why you don't understand that these items are genuinely scarce. I just paid 2.5B for the +3 def PvP to slot for my main again. I'd actually sold the one I had slotted on her previously because the price was right 2 issues ago (3.5B).
If on the other hand your concern is for the casual player getting purples....well get out there and make some be for sale....the very best way to lower prices. -
Can we make something to go in our fire pit which looks a bit like a blue centurion?
That is all.

Quote:I know you've dropped it. But I have to respond to this.
... I told you what I was crafting. I told you what level. I told you what I was buying and selling for. Buy for "me plus a couple inf" [it's easy to spot, my bids end in 908] and sell for just above an even million somewhere in the range I mentioned.
How much less vague can I be? You've got like six things to try. I don't "own" any of those niches- I probably move 1/4 or less of the IO's in anything I mentioned.
I'm sure this is one of those things where I'm so far from being a new marketeer that I can't see it from here, but what else did I need to mention?
I think he was suggesting I'm vague. Of course unlike Crazy Kramer screaming about stocks on TV, I'm not going to tell you what I'm making money on exactly. If people knew what I was working exactly they could damage my profits quite alot.
I'll give you a niche I worked for a long time which is currently collapsing though...with exacts as of 12 hrs ago (last time I logged Aeval Morrigan the toon who crafts and most of the sales in it). I may have to go alter some of this now that I've posted it too.......*sigh*
Niche:
Oblit chance for damage proc
Recipe bids x10 @ 5,000,038
Recipe bids x20 @ 7,500,039
Recipe bids x20 @ 10,000,039
IO bids x10 @ 5,555,538
IO bids x20 @ 7,555,539
Outstanding bids x50 on each salvage to make the Oblits
Recipes for sale x13 @ 11,500,101
IOs for sale x22 @ 15,000,101
IOs for sale x3 @ 25,000,101
IO for sale x1 @ 40,000,101
Recently these have been selling for 20M for the most part. The ones listed over that are left-overs on off servers which I use for higher price points at lower margins. When it was selling normally these were costing 7.5M per enhancer to make and selling for 25M on average. I was averaging volume of 20 per day. So even after market fee I was netting 22.5M -7.5M = 15M per....or 300M per day roughly for one niche. About 1 in 100 sales was a typo in my favor as well usually on a scale of x10 (added digits suck but are most common error) so I would have the occasional sale for 175M where someone meant to do 17.5M. This added on average about 1.7M per sale or a little over 10% of total profits.
To make it even more clear to you:
Note that I put multiple tiers of support on the recipe price. Even if someone dumps their share of the niche on me.....I'll probably buy up all their stock and some at bargain prices.
Note that I also support the IO price to prevent people who craft and auto-list for 1 from screwing up my niche.
Note that I tend to list a few enhancers at higher than reasonable going rate on off-servers in my niche for those times when someone decides to corner my market and take the niche from me. I usually make excess profits from their original move (the abnormally high listed ones). Then when they get sick of fighting with me I get extra cheap stuff on the way down from my recipe/IO price supports.
Do you have the inf to do multiple niches like this like I do? Probably not at the moment. But you could run a set like Crushing Impact or Red Fortune or whatever like this to get your feet wet.
Just so you know, this is the most I've revealed of my system so take it for what its worth.
This niche collapsed on me recently but lucky me I'd been expanding anyhows to a new niche and in that one I've been getting IOs crafted for 22M each and selling them for 55M with daily volume of about 15 enhancers.
It really isn't much work once you have the hang of it. This isn't real-life hedge fund management or something.
E.E. -
Yeah its a decent enough set if you're softcapping s/l. I have quite a few toons I've used it on actually.
-
O.K. Blue......here are the ways to make inf fast at the moment since I now know you have an expensive farming build:
1) Farm for Purples on +1 x8 -- you'll pop a purple recipe roughly every 2250 - 3500 kills (we haven't perfected the reverse engineering yet here but those are the ranges I've seen). With a good farming build you should be able to pop a purple every 90 mins of solo play time. I set to +1 because its not much slower and the pool A and C recipes which drop will sell much nicer at level 50. You've said you find this boring....I do to most of the time...soooooooo on to 2. At current purple prices I would guess you'd make about 150M an hour doing this....including all drops.
2) Run level 50 TF with 8 people as kill mosts (ITF, LGTF, 3rd Respecs, BSF, whatever) -- you'll pop a purple at the same rate but divided by 8 people though you'll kill faster too. I estimate the group gets a purple drop every 60 mins doing something like this and thus every 480 mins you'll get a purple drop. Additionally you'll rack up merits to spend on normal high-end stuff like LotG +7.5% and so on which can be converted to 100M each. If you do this with a plan you can probably make something along the lines of 75M an hour doing this.
3) Marketeering. You'll stink at first....in fact its best to train up on something like Crushing Impacts and stuff so you can get your butt kicked by the low A-ball marketeers first. But if you figure it out its about 10M per min committed daily with low risk......50M per min committed daily with high risk. You seem opposed to doing this....fine...less competition.
4) Working A-Merits for rolls or to convert to PvP IOs. We haven't figured out whats fastest here but I'll tell you I have a toon blueside which can do all 11 hero missions in about 45 mins (including travel time) over 2 days. 2 merits can be converted to a LotG +7.5% so if you have some merits from doing #2 and 20M you can turn 45 mins and 20M into 100M on a consistent basis over 2 days of course...but still.
The point here is there are tons of ways to make inf within the system. Find one or more you like and do them. The game isn't what's broken, your expectations are. The game exists to make money for the SHAREHOLDERS of NC Soft. Whatever keeps people playing here in the largest number the longest is what they want. Having high-end loot to shoot for keeps more people playing than it pisses off into quitting. Examine other games and see which work like what you're suggesting. The closest the game ever has come to your dream world was whenever AE rears a huge bug and everyone exploits it. Honestly too many more of those and I might consider quitting cause it makes the game too easy. When they're happening market prices spike....why? Cause everyone has enough inf and little supply is made of the "good stuff". So get out and pop some good stuff to sell or slot and help combat the problem. -
Quote:Hey....someone effectively said the '88s were Elite......I like this guy.The invention system allows progress for
- Non-interested - vendor recipes and salvage or dump on market for single-digit inf
- Casual - craft/use applicable items that drop, sell the rest for minimal inf on market
- Interested - buy, sell, flip "casually" - frankenslotting characters or building with mid-range sets
- Power - marketeer for fun (and profit)
- Elite - deals regularly in ultra-rare loot, burns inf for fun
Of course from what I've seen dealing regularly in ultra-rares and burning inf for fun are almost mutually exclusive. I make over 600M every single day and I can assure you when I "spec out" a toon even I can't burn inf for fun at the same time. -
Quote:The system doesn't work to cause enjoyment for the average gamer. It works to maximize width and longevity of subscriptions while also allowing a maximum of new entrants as well. This isn't done to help the players......its done to maximize the profits of the shareholders of NC Soft.Still no logical reason why the current system works for the average gamer. The fact that you do not need anything but SOs is not really a logical answer. If the toys are in the game, the Devs should make the toys available to average gamers, at least over the period of years. seriously, I am not asking (Though a few people have stated that I have asked) for a 50 automatically, with all the PvP and Purp that are available, immediately. I am simply saying that after a few years it should be reasonable to expect to have at least one toon (with all wealth except SOs concentrated to one build) reasonably pimped out with the best stuff. Seriously, I would be amazed I have to make this point. of course I am in a room of farmers and marketeers. But seriously, no one can even admit that this is reasonable from a game design standpoint? Nice.
Since your arguement seems to be that running the game with some loot out of reach of avg/casual players even ones who have played for an extended duration, I would like you to give an example of a highly successful MMO which has existed as long as CoX with similar or better retention numbers among its playerbase. I will provide WoW as a counter example of a game even more highly driven by elite loot where much game content is effectively gated if you don't have the good loot....and thus the "fun" is gated as well.
On another note....thanks for showing me how many people read the marketeering forums. I had no idea we could get to 9 pages in a few hours. -
Quote:Fun and high-end builds don't have a 1 to 1 correlation. Heck my most FUN toon right now is my 36th level Elec/Energy Armor Stalker. She's really fun and her current build cost me less than 500M. Can I make her 5% more powerful for adding another 500M? Yes....but it won't really add to the fun that much so I haven't....despite the fact that I make 600M-1B on the market every single day of the week (unless I didn't log in the day before). If you want the nice shinies you have to do something to get them. Thats how games like this work.Wow. You guys are really addicted to the fact that market prices need to be 2 billion, and that playing the market is how to make money.
Let me clue you in to a little fact. Most people who get this game want to create and run characters. Most of the people who play this game want to earn rewards with their characters.
Think about it. Think about marketing a game. It is a game, remember. Stay with me now. A game is supposed to be fun. You remember fun, right? -
The sad thing is that a few of the enhancers are actually selling off-market for more than 2B each. The incarnate system in i19 is intended to be a way for people who don't want to make the push for PvP and Purple IOs to power up their normal IO enhanced toons above what is currently possible.
I expect we'll see the price on some of these things come down once incarnate system is live cause people will have an alternative empowerment route.
Alternately you could do hero/villian tips missions (hardly farming) to get the required alignment merits to buy these things w/o inf.
You really don't NEED these things though. Despite the fact that I have 100's of billions of inf worth of value in my bases, I don't have more than 1 toon fully spec'ed out. Honestly I don't need the one too I do have like that. None of this stuff is needed its intended to give people something to strive for once they're 50th....and thus not shockingly are designed to be a grind to complete. -
Wasn't me either. Wonder who else plays that IO.

Quote:I was going to donate 2B to the '88s anyhows and figured I could spring the other 500M for a worthy cause AND I actually wanted one for my main. Eris (the toon) is going to go into i19 ready to be an incarnate and with a fully finished build....well except for the level 53 HO I still needLoL - no I didn't do that, although it is a funny idea...
Honestly, I didn't expect to have to push it this hard (and or cross post it
too much). I actually figured an 88'er would ultimately be the buyer.
Originally, when chatting with my friend about it, we simply thought it
would be a funny way for me to sell it, with that little RP story, knowing
full well where the proceeds were going...
<shrug> I'm glad at least, that there's one bidder... Go Figure...

I wouldn't pay 2.5B for it unless it was going to a good cause....since it is I might as well. Its one of only 2 IOs left to improve my main and namesake with, pre-incarnate.
-
Quote:I don't have 40B liquid atm either. Its expensive to do all my pre-incarnate shoping AND make donations to crazy '88s AND even keep pace with #1 on Freedom solo (takes about 1B every 60 hrs).I'm not one of those folk who have a ginormous stockpile of inf on hand- I've already burned off my layer of winter fat and I'm feeding my billion in 'interest' from my various niches to the fire every week.
If I hadn't been lazy the past year or so and I had 40 billion lying around I'd totally burn a heap on Granny's Trinket! =P
One of my niches collapsed too.....I'd been making 400M a day on it and now its recipes have risen enough and enhancers fallen enough that I could only make about 50M a day on it (assuming same volume.....might only get 1/2 since its a "fight for niche" and thus 25M).
Hopefully we're not in the same collapsed niche. Maybe the '88s should have a secret place to post what we're working so we don't crush each others stuff. Of course then maybe we'd actually be ebil.

j/k of course....but it is funny......especially since I was just reading an academic article titled "Speed = Profits" like 2 hrs ago. -
2.5B on this -- assuming its a level 50 one.
