well the chat bug seems to be worse than ever after this patch.

Seems to be a long maintenance today. It rarely takes this long for a simple patch.

That's Quantum Leap, you noodle!

...oh boy.
Anyway, highly shiny bit of news there. Also, note the other new bits of news - one bonus free toon slot per year could now be on the cards...
[/ QUOTE ]
You get that anyway. A few months ago they gave me 3 slots for my three years plus another 2 slots because i was a paying customer at the time. I get another shiny slot in april -
I just resent the price. Base salvage wasn't exactly confusing and didn't cost inf. Thr prices for bases have altered for a lot of things but I'm not sure which have changed and which haven't.
-
And its a right pain too. I recently got my autodoc and it cost me 70k for the invention salvage and a further 50k prestige to build it as a personal item. I was against the change as I was wary of the prices and find it very irritating to be proved correct. Small SGs like mine are penalised again. Its a lot of work for a machine that sells 2 inspirations. And we have to pay rent too. 700 prestige a month.

It doesn't have to be from the other server, just global tells. I have a few global mates that /tell each other through global rather than actual alt name and it is a bit hit or miss whether it gets through or not. and it is impossible to reply to.

Possibly signal routing problems caused by the internet cable cutting problem? I don't know if they have fixed the cables yet.

So, I take it you've read nothing about the 3 main undersea internet cables getting cut over Christmas, and the rest of the network, notably Europe, bearing a lot of the extra load? They're currently under repair. It's been all over TV and internet news...
[/ QUOTE ]
Didn't notice anything... when did it happen? over Christmas, you say? Well, that fits with the date my issues started, more or less a week ago.
[/ QUOTE ]
And I can't say I saw anything about it either. With Jeremy Kyle and Jerry Springer on hiatus I've not really watched a lot of telly this christmas, not even the news. -
And when are they going to fix the location bug on one of the seer marino missions? It's been pointing to the wrong location forever.

So the next double xp weekend is 23rd january according to the cute calendar on the home page (which I can't seen to find any more) and paragonwiki.
I've booked the weekend off, ordered in extra supplies and stocked up on caffeine enhanced beverages.
So my question is,
Is anyone else going to do the same or do I just need to get a life? I'd have thought after 4 years I'd be going "meh" about the whole thing, but I just seem to have so much fun in the madness of the event that I just can't resist -
Well its getting closer
I'll be having a busy day tomorrow then back on nights friday, so its lots of Doctor Who DVDs for me and my shiny new PSP....
I hope you all get everything you want from santa, but he always seems to forget the muscular chippendale I put on the top of my list every year. I did ask for a pet Barrowman this year but he seems to be stuck in panto.
Bah humbug!! -

Don't come to my house then, I absolutely adore sprouts. I've told my sister (who i have the pleasure of visiting this year) that there must be sprouts and she agrees!!
Unfortunately my dad will also be there. He is the sort who picks at his dinner then moans because the kids are making lots of noise. I'm amazed my late mother was able to slip 2 kids past him. He is fine now we are grown up but he hates children -
thats the first thing I check. Is my router all green and working. I've been caught out a couple of times in the past

Just had a mapserver error and now can't log in. It says server is unavailable. Have they failed to feed the hamsters again?

Having been playing for a bit now i was wondering what people thought about the distribution rate of merits. I've been soloing for the last couple of days on my new baby hero and have reached the stellar level 17. In that time i have done 3 story arcs and gained 20 merits. The first 2 gave me 7 merits each and the third gave me 3.
the weird thing is they each took roughly the same amount of time but the third one was the first faultline and had EBs in it. The first 2 were slightly easier than the third but ultimately gave more "reward" than the last one.
Now I was a bit wary about the way merits were awarded when they were first mooted as only the story arc owner gets them, but it does look as if they picked the most awkward unweildy way of earning them that they could possibly have chosen. I have read the arguments about the fact that the arc owner gets xp and SO's that the team don't, but merits are different. You can buy SO's, you can earn xp, but merits are only awarded under very specific circumstances. I can be playing in a team for hours and not have any chance at all of earning any. In my experience, teams do the missions that give the best xp whether it is the highest level member of the team, or an AV mission. I haven't been in a highish level team since issue 13's release so don't know if any problems have developed but I'd quite like some merits now and again myself.
My solution for this would be to give 1 merit per mission to every member of the team, plus a small merit bonus to the arc owner based on the number of missions in the arc. It's simple, easy to implement and doesn't cause arguments. Everyone gets something and we can get on with playing instead of arguing. Not all of us have the time to farm TF/SFs. Some of us just want an hour or two of teaming with the chance for a reward at the end of it -

Is it just me, or if you actually try taking holiday before the end of the year, do your managers then conveniently forget and start ringing up in screaming panic anyway?
[/ QUOTE ]
That or the holiday form you submitted 3 times in the summer gets convieniently lost around a week before youre due to have time off.....
[/ QUOTE ]
Or, in the case of my wife earlier this year; book the holiday 6 months in advance, get it all OK'd and everything, then get told TWO DAYS BEFORE that she can't have it as someone who only started 2 months ago, booked it a week ago, and has ALREADY GONE ON HOLIDAY WITHOUT GETTING APPROVAL is also away.
She told 'em to get stuffed and we went anyway.
[/ QUOTE ]
Been there, done thatI just told them to stuff it and was going as it was approved and booked. It's not my problem if someone new comes in and wants to go away a month after they start.
My mate had a holiday booked as he was going away to a stag do in ibiza and was told a couple of weeks before that he couldn't take it for similar reasons to your wife. He was going mad at me about how [censored] it was and how much money he was losing and how his mate was upset that his best man wasn't at the stag do, so I just told him to grow some and tell his HR he was going anyway. They grumbled a lot but there was nothing they could do about it -

I'm wrong anyway. I just rechecked. No one has any right to have the bank holidays as statutory days off. As of Oct 1st 2007, you have an entitlement of 24 days holiday per year (assuming a 5 day working week). Most companies don't include all bank holidays as part of that time, but they are under no obligation to. As of April next year, you'll be entitled to 28 days, and since your nice employer doesn't include bank holidays, he has no buffer and has to give you the extra days. More fool him.

just passed this around work mate, you are officially our hero for that snippet of information - however a small victory it is, its better than a smack in the face
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm a security guard so we have known about it since it was introduced. To make up for it our company decided that we couldn't take any holiday until we actually accrued it. As our holiday period runs april to march we can't take holidays off to coincide with school holidays any more. Parents who want to take a week at easter and 2 weeks in the summer are stuffed. June is the first time we can take a full week, and then october for a fortnight if we take the june holiday. We had a lot of people take a week or a fortnight in september who came back to find they hadn't been paid the holiday they were expecting. That was the first notice we got that the holiday situation had changed. Unfortunately our contract isn't specific. it only states that we are entitled to x days a year accrued at y rate. Any holiday taken in excess of holiday accrued must be paid back from final salary pay if we leave the company before year end. -
Well recently the prices for white and yellow have plummeted to as low as 1 inf on heroes. Certainly most go for lower than 100 inf. Orange still go for decent amount but chronal skip and platinum have overtaken hamidon goo for most pricey.

So thats sometime after the 27th then. I do wish they wouldn't assume we know what they are on about with thanksgiving. I had to look at wikipedia to find out when their little festival is due to happen. Not all of us in the rest of the world have a clue what they are on about with thanksgiving. it's like the world series, how can it be world when only americans enter it?
Ah well, us europeans probably have stuff they don't understand. At least we don't have to strap on armour just to play rugby -
They could sponsor it in the US. The original channel has a lot of advertising.

Sindrome, people have been amazingly polite in this thread, considering how they normally degenerate. What they are saying is that most of them won't consider level pacting except to close real life friends, family or regular play partners. This isn't to say that you won't find a pact buddy, and I wish you success in your quest, but my experience is that too many people have been bitten in the past and are wary about committing themselves to someone they don't know.
I understand the frustration of playing for a long time and not gettingthat first 50. My friend was in US beta, UK beta and introduced me to the game. He had chronic altitus though and couldn't stick to one alt. His highest was 35 and he left the game forever bored of the low level content. I had a problem to begin with but I got into a great SG which was always teaming and suddenly a new interest swept over me. I managed to get 2 alts to 50 within 2 months of each other after over a years playing and now, nearly 4 years later i have 9. The xp smoothing means that it is even easier to get to 50 than it has ever been and a little patience, perseverance and commitment to one alt can see you getting to 50 in very little time. At level 40+ there always seems to be a team going for some awesomely fast levelling. All you need to do is send a tell to anyone in the search window who is grey and politely ask if there is room in their team. If they have space they will almost certainly say yes as the more the merrier seems to be the order of the day. It might seem that 2 million xp is a lot to get, but in reality a team of 8 will probably see you level every night or two. I went from 32 to 50 in a week recently thanks to an amazing team who just had fun and every time I brought the alt on immediately sent me a tell saying hi and would I like to join them.
I know a levelling pact sounds like the best option, but its not. Teaming and perseverance is the fastest way to get those levels if thats what you are after. Soloing is nice if you don't have time to commit to a team or just feel in an unsociable mood but the sense of accomplishment you get in a team of 8 on high difficulty as you hit the AV for the last points of damage and the fireworks go off and you ding 50 is amazing. Personally I think there should be a chorus of naked Carnies dancing past holding a banner saying "Congratulations on your new 50" when you ding, but thats just me -

I hope this isn't a vision of the future. Alas I fear it is
[/ QUOTE ]
Great for Batman Robin style dynamic duos though.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm afraid it is the future too. Whilst not knocking the OP for asking the question, I'm afraid that it will get short shrift from some of the more vocal members of the forum. It is the sort of question that screams "please give me abuse from all and sundry" and ranks up there with requests for large amounts of inf and powerlevelling.
I hadn't actually given it any thought, but I'm suddenly worried about creating a new alt. I have visions of people camping out in outbreak or the zig begging for a level pact then vanishing till the pact is broken when abusive messages start appearing.
The point of level pacts is for friends and family to create an alt together so they can duo without fear of outlevelling each other. It isn't for total strangers wanting to get to level 50 without haviing to do any of the work. Personally i think it is a daft idea to introduce but I'm sure there will be a few people who swear it is the best thing the devs have ever done. You can't please everyone.
Back to the OP though, I think you need to find some teams mate. Join an active SG and work your way to level 50 the old fashioned way. Whilst having access to squids is nice, they are difficult to play properly. Without the experience you gain from playing and teaming a lot you will not find them very enjoyable as they aren't that solo friendly. -
I think that merits should be awarded to all players in a team. One merit per non newspaper/radio mission would solve the problem of the team leader doing just their own arcs or someone joining for a couple of missions then leaving the team.
I understand when people say that only the arc owner gets the xp reward and the SO but I've been in no end of pugs where the leader has ignored other peoples missions and just done their own and it can be quite irritating. It isn't so bad if you are doing something like the praetorian arc which is best done with a full team, but it is nice when you can get some of your other team mates missions completed as well.
Now there are certain ATs that can solo quite cheerfully, but other more team oriented ATs are going to be at a serious disadvantage if they are after merits. My empathy defender rarely did his own missions. I was always teamed with other people doing their arcs, having a blast and loving the buffing. I don't have that much time to do TFs/SFs regularly so I can see a similar empath reaching 50 with very few merits.
I like the idea of merits, but I think someone round the table has overcomplicated the system. If i was going to award them I would do it as follows.
1) 1 merit awarded per mission.
2) 1 merit per mission in arc as arc completion bonus.
3) 2 merits per EB defeated in mission.
4) 4 merits per AV defeated in mission.
I'd probably use that formula for TFs/SFs too with every team member getting number 2).
Trials like Eden i'd give 10 or 20 merits.
Giant monsters I'd possibly give 5 merits but as they are so easy to farm I'm not sure.
So thats my thoughts and ideas to simplify the system. I'm not saying it is a perfect system but it would make the awards a bit fairer.
