The Steampunk pack was the first and only booster pack that I didn't buy, because I wanted to let my (lack of) purchase speak against the excessive pre-tinting (along with my feedback on the forums about it).
If the artists want to include pre-tinting, they really should make duplicate options: one with pre-tinting and one without. -

It very well maybe the max resolution of the tv and the resolution that you have set in the game.
Try changing the resolution... I suppose the only way you'll be able to do that is by launching the game in its Safe Mode.
If that doesn't work... you need better help than me!
They had announced a way to change game's settings from the launcher, but they were scrapped... right? -
Quote:Well, I think that states it perfectly, hehe. There's nothing necessarily wrong with a single bright color, or even two well-matched bring colors. Movie incarnations of Spider-man, Iron Man, and Superman have proven that this works just fine.
We're zeroing in on a theory here, and I guess it's this: when you get a whole TEAM of brightly-colored folks on screen, it starts to strain credulity for the mainstream movie audience. So one hero: okay. But a group of differently-colored super characters tends to get into rainbow territory and remind people of the Voltron force or other traditionally kid-friendly material.
That alone may not turn off a mainstream audience, but combine that with a weak or silly story and it breaks the willing suspension of disbelief. I think that's more or less what going on with the average movie-goer right now. Interesting, the longer they're exposed to the bright colors, the less it'll probably bother them, and eventually, we'll probably be able to have parity between the comics and films without fear of alienating the audience.
I'm so curious to see how the Avenger movie works out in that regard. It doesn't seem like the characters' costumes will cause much of a problem in that way (Iron Man is the only one that might be particularly shiny and bright).
The bigger problem (in that case) is likely to be the audience's willingness to accept so many super heroes in one movie. They've set it up nicely and it seems like it may work... so long as the movie (backing up the concepts) is actually good. And that all departs the visual art focus of this discussion, hehe...
Mainly, I think the realistic lighting, plus dirt, grit and battle-wear and actual costume textures (as opposed to ink on paper), takes care of those characters' colors being too much. -
Thanks, VK!
Just popping in quickly to say to Turg...
I never PvP (I have maybe... twice in this game).
However, when I went to the M&G in Boston, that took place before Going Rogue came out, I chatted with Posi about many things and one thing I lightheartedly suggested was PvP dueling options, to allow heroes and villains to duke it out in the open city zones (completely an opt in/opt out mechanic... with an option to never take part and so on).
It was a very casual conversation, I don't even think anyone else was around for it, and he said that some people just don't ever want to see PvP, so that was a factor they'd have to consider and balance how much you're willing to "upset" other players and all that.
Again, it was a casual chat and it wasn't like I was selling it hard and putting him on the spot about it. We just tossed around thoughts about it back and forth.
Anyway, the main reason I'm mentioning this is because I, too, am not a PvPer, but I share your feelings that it'd be a cool aspect to have in this game and could possibly open me up to partaking in some of it. So, I understand where you're coming from.
I could go on about it more, but it is not really relevant to this thread, so I'll stop, hehe... Maybe in another thread some time! -
Quote:Thanks a lot for asking and reporting, N.S.!I asked the Character Artists about this, and asymmetry would be difficult to do on the body, particularly if it involves skin. We'll more like concentrate on asymmetry elsewhere (arms, shoulder pads, head details, etc.)
It's very easy for people to forget that such things don't fall in your domain.
It's a bit disappointing, but it's good to know why there aren't asymetrical body patterns. I wouldn't naturally think of that as being an extra load on the resources, but that's the way things work and it makes sense to me now.
Also, yeah... non-robot robotic arm options would also be a great thing! -
Quote:It's just not the same when you're not watching it live (plus, it is hard to make it home without hearing the score!!)...You guys do know we record each and every show, right? It's archived so you can watch it at any time.
Haha, just kidding!
I know and fully appreciate that you do these and record them, Zwill!
I've caught up on a few in the archive, myself.
VK's transcripts are great, but actually hearing you sing is a much greater experience than reading VK talk about it... -
Quote:Pardon me for jumping into this, but I thought a bit more perspective was needed for this little facet of this particular interesting discussion......
Remember how Joel Schumacher basically destroyed the Batman movie franchise? His stated attempt was to make the films more like a comic book, which for him meant bright colors, a certain level of silliness, and very little in the way of nuance or atmosphere. That was a test, and it failed; Hollywood learned that a financially successful superhero movie must embrace visual realism (grit optional) and, like most action movies, maintain a certain gravitas. That's the fine line, and anything past it appears to turn off the mainstream film audience. Again, I love the comic book aesthetic, but I don't think it would be profitable in a mainstream movie context.
Yes, there is a fine line.
However, Schumacher went way way farther over that line than just a smidge! And I'm not certain that the art direction was the culprit in those movies'... badness (as much as I, personally, despised the look of them). There was plenty else wrong with those.
Anyway, what you have said about the muted colors, I do agree with, David! I just also believe that success can be had a little closer to that line than X-Men did (although, as the first, sort of break-through, comicbook movie for that time period, it was probably the wise decision) and they can move much closer to that line, than they have so far, without even approaching the puke-worthy visuals of Schumacher's Batman, hehe!
Also, zero doubt, Hollywood will go for the sure thing and avoid risks. No argument from me on that. That doesn't mean I have to agree with it though. And, you know how it is... Some of today's risks are tomorrow's standards.
As always, loving the art, David! Thanks a lot for sharing these. I went through and looked at a bunch of it, but am falling over tired and I'll hopefully get around to asking a few things that crossed my mind as I looked at them (should have typed them down as I browsed, hehe).
EDIT:
I have to mention...
Picture the film "Hero"... Imagine a comicbook movie with an artistic approach of such vivid colors for a super hero movie. It may not be that bad of an idea when you think of true, quality visual art of film, rather than bright colors on a costume in a standard Hollywood movie. I am, so they say... a bit of a dreamer. -
Well, it sounds like people from all sides of the equation have suggested magic...
And that is what I would suggest as well.
Placing my thoughts in this fictional universe where deities grant extraordinary powers through mortal vessels... If the powers are granted upon the character, then I would likely make the origin Magic (unless the specifics made tech or science, or possibly mutation, more appropriate). Where as, if this character were the deity, or a special vessel created by the deity and given a portion of his/her/its power, then I could go Natural (but even then I could still go with Magic).
I had planned to make a priest who used technologically created demons and other illusions and effects (Demon MM), but I just didn't want to role-play the character and I found the demons to be annoying, hehe.
Best of luck... Err, peace be with you... err... $deity + you!

The Munsters: For Real
Herman struggles to balance the oddness of his supernatural heritage and his regular, everyday struggles on the job as a police detective...
While his wife battles to survive as vampire mom and wife and chief nurse at the local city hospital.
It's gritty... It's real... It's The Munsters!
First episode deals with Herman being reprimanded by his police chief for repeated property damage committed on the job... Lillian works with others at the hospital to uncover the truth behind the disappearance of stored blood...
And their wolfson, Eddie, discovers that he prefers licking boy dogs, over girls.
Meanwhile, their teenage daughter struggles with the perpetual hindrance that her family causes on her social life. -

Wow, your style is really coming out, Heroid!
Loving these. The figures, the faces, the poses and the shading are really looking excellent, mate!
Very nice job. Keep it up! -
Quote:It's a bit more undead in my opinion.Seriously? Look at the 21.5 patch notes. The only thing we don't have Live right now is TPN. Issue 21.5 is Live.
And yeah, I don't think they should have pushed this issue live, but not because of the trial not being ready.
The good news about the trial not going live is it is because they are taking our feedback and trying to tailor the trial to a more enjoyable experience based on what the players have said (and done, via the trials that are popular vs. the ones that are not).
As obvious as a laugh as it is to point out that the issue's namesake feature didn't make it on time, that is actually something I approve of and is something that makes me a fan of the development team.
It seems to me that marketing forced the release, but we'll never really know.
Still, I'll criticize them for this issue, but not for giving us some stuff while they hold off the new trial to fix it up. -
Quote:I'm really confused and disappointed about this as well and feel like DumpleBerry's post is on the mark. What is going on in Paragon Studios? Why was the patch that broke everything pushed Live? Is this Media Blitz? Where is the rest of it?
And shouldn't you be including in your patch notes that you're breaking blue-side bases with today's patch, so that now ALL SG and VG bases will attack anyone entering them?
Does anyone over there care? Seriously, what is going on?
I don't expect answers, but the actions being taken are really odd.
This is not the kind of customer care I've come to expect from this game. Pushing that publish live just made no sense to me.
It makes me, also, wonder what is going on. -
A lot of people are bringing up "resetting", but I think you're missing a bigger point.
The stories and adventures that the characters would go through would likely not contain the types of things that would require resetting.
Instead of viewing the proposal as RPing within a bubble, think of it more as what some may term light RP. Not in the amount of staying In-Character, but in the degree of personal twists and turns within the sessions' events.
It's really not that far-fetched. -
DOOOM!!!!
Steelclaw's Tournament (It's capitalized!) has been dumbed down!
I remember, back in my day, Steelclaw used to delete all of his characters if he sneezed!
Haha... just kiddin'! I'm glad you're having fun and this setup sounds like it should really allow you to get a lot farther. Also, it is probably the only way you could continue (for long) with the paragon market and whatever they may kick out every now and then.
Although... Maybe you didn't need to restart for the launch of Freedom then... Doh! -
Quote:It is very much so not wrong! Is it wrong that the first three answers I thought of when I read the title was that you could make ...
a hat
a brooch
a pterodactyl

And far better than my initial reaction of "they taste great cold in-between two slices of bread".
Quote:Don't make excuses for the youngsters. They should culture themselves. Anyone who only watches movies made after they were born is doing a disservice to themselves. (Well, except maybe Besse Cooper and the handful of other people born in the 1800s that are still arlive, since movies made ON EARTH before 1896 weren't very good...) -
Quote:I agree.I don't think we (the players) deserve a guarantee exactly. I do think we (the players) deserve some notification to when the game will be shutting it's doors.
And for a game like CoH were you can pay for your subcription a year in advance, a refund if you end up paying for longer service than you're recieving.
Outside of that, you basically know from the get go, at some point, whether it be a year or many many MANY wonderful years from now, the MMO is going to shut down it's servers.
The one instance I have seen where the "game may change" may have gone too far and could have possibly called for subscription plans to be canceled and reimbursed was with the previously mentioned SWG NGE debacle.
You pay for chess and it turns into checkers, maybe a subscriber should have a tiny bit more of a guarantee...
Anyway, I honestly have no worries about CoH and the market and this sort of stuff.
I agree. It's all for the present and anything beyond that is basically bonus. -
Quote:Hah, agreed and...Heh. SOE would have called it a "New Game Experience".
*stillbitteroverSWG*
*commiserates with DreamWeaver*
I sometimes wonder if mmo customers deserve any kind of guarantee beyond the standard agreements, but I can't think of anything beyond fulfillment -or reimbursement- of paid subscription time. -

I'm staying out of the rhyming debate
, but I just wanted to say these two things:
1) There is nothing wrong with the style of role-play that you want to have and I really hope you can find it. I do not believe that you are the only person who would enjoy that.
I understand what you're saying and I don't think it is even all that extreme.
2) A few comments seem to be looking down your nose at others. This may be a result of poor experiences and possibly even attacks against you and your efforts... However, by including that tone in your post here, you send that negative message to others who have not had anything to do with your prior bad experiences.
Anyway, I think I like a nice mix of both styles. I like strong iconic characters that are not sent this way and that at every twist and turn of plot (and enjoy having most sessions be just that... those iconic characters doing their thing), I also like the occasional splash of greater implications.
I'm certainly not telling anyone how to get up to fun though.
I'm afraid that I'm not around enough currently, nor on a regular schedule, to be of much help. However, I wish you success in getting the fun you seek.
Also, I would say this is absolutely the place to post about it.
It may not happen quickly, but hopefully some like-minded folk will gather!

Ouch... This patch is just terrible...
After reading this thread, I remembered seeing another thread of a somewhat similar issue, but they can't log in with an existing Street Justice character.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=277895
Craziness...
Good luck!
From the sounds of it, I'd definitely try logging in and out a few times to see if it works out.
