Quote:Rumors are not like Pokémon.someone just told me the origin themed pools were dismissed by the devs. is this true?!?!
D:
say it ain't so!
the reason cited was "it would largely take creativity out of the players hands" which, to me doesnt make sense, especially as a power pool. having extra powers available from a pool for each origin available to all origins only alows for furthur customiztion to me.
D:
what's going oonnnnn?! dont tell me it;s over before it's even begun! take my money for the origin themed power pools! take it! now! for that! please!
You do not want to catch 'em all, Davey! -
While I am entirely on the side of the fence that has not liked the normal-mapped faces thus far (although, I have not given the Imperial Dynasty one much of a looksee. I'll have to do that), and I agree that they have looked out of place and plasticy/shiny...
This does not mean that the artists won't figure out a way to do them better and make them work very well.
So, I may be against any faces that look like the Steampunk ones, but I'm not entirely against the process... I just hope that they either manage to make them fit into the game's looks better or back off of them if the artists determine that it's not going well.
I just don't feel comfortable blindly dismissing normal-mapping, since I don't honestly know that it can't be done right. -
Quote:I absolutely agree. Last I know of, Clockwork01 said they'd look into it, but I don't know what the results were on that and whether it'll have jump effects or not.A sudden thought, if the jet packs will animation/have effects during flight, can they also have effects with Super Jump? Just got the Zero G Pack from a Kings Row mayhem and it's jump effect would be great for many characters, power-suited scientists who are too heavy to fly for example.
(I know I'd love to have them... even just some way to buy/create the Zero G pack would be great) -
Quote:Right. From these pieces of evidence, we can conclude that a BigFOOT:So he hops around on one leg leaving only one foot print. This has all come together to make perfect sense due to your enlightening post. Well thank you kind sir.
- Hops on one foot
- Travels very far with just one leap (so as to only leave one print)
- Is extremely light (considering the depth of the foot impression and the impact that such a long leap on a single foot would have).

While I agree that betas could use a lot more focus (and better understanding/attitude) than these completely open ones...
I really cannot blame anybody for talking about the exciting finds.
Honestly, and maybe this is just my nature, I only really find fault with the people who can't properly handle this type of leaked information beyond simply seeing it, recognizing that it is spiffy and moving on and patiently waiting for the day that we might learn more.
And, really, I don't see a lot of examples of anyone doing anything more. So, I think a bit of the problem is just the fear that Oh No!! All these CRAZIES are tearing everything apart and running rampant with wild speculation about things we're not even supposed to know about!
Eh, big deal...
I do feel for the Devs when surprises get leaked, but... hey, stuff happens and no player is to blame about it.
And, in the end, it really makes no difference (other than some devs possibly getting into trouble with marketing and/or just looking bad!). Of course, this is why I try and use a bit of decorum regarding leaks. Somebody messed up at their job and I don't want to throw it around too much.
Contradict myself much? Maybe... I find reality is not quite stationary, but a swaying between extremes and finding peace within it all... -
Huh... Golden Girl... I am now reading your messages as though they're being delivered by C3P0.
(Thanks Lisa!! Haha)
Golden Girl/Golden Rod... it kinda works!
Chewy... Take the professor back to the beta servers and see if she can figure out some more hidden powersets! -

Well, they've been making NPCs differently for a little while. Using the Player Character rigs and working from there instead of the old way (Think of the old CoT and the new CoT).
This was a design decision made that I thought most knew about.
So, the fact that a piece somewhat fits into the player creator doesn't really say anything in particular about its potential availability to players... other than yes, it would be possible and/or easier than creating a new piece, as the old way would have been.
That, however, doesn't mean they'd want to go handing around famous NPC's unique costumes. -
Oh, I certainly hear ya and agree on that front. No need to put either gender down!
I'm not entirely sure young males are not involved in such large hunts, but it is really besides the point. The females are absolutely outstanding. -
I'm siding on accidental until we're told otherwise.
One thing that makes me lean this way is that the piece does not adjust to scale slider adjustments.
We shall see... But I did kinda fear the hype an unintended bugged leak of this piece could stir up here. -
New costumes aren't usually in the first waves of beta... but I wouldn't mind being wrong.
Remember, everybody... this is beta! Early stages, even! Just keep it in mind (not directing that at you, Azure!!).
That out of the way... YAHOOOOO!!!!! -
Quote:Hehehe, there was a great thread on these forums that someone started by saying that they always kill threads by posting in them. And it became a nonstop series of replies to never let that thread die.And you broke it! I thought I had it going on here but noooo...you broke it by posting after me!
*wonders who will break it next*
What is odd is... I found that thread and read through it back before I ever started playing this game.
I used to play another game in a galaxy far far away, but I'd occasionally check the Dev tracker for CoH forums, because I often found it as funny and entertaining as informative, heh. -
Quote:It certainly can be.IDK, I always viewed that as a big red button being pushed hoping for additional reactions.
I remember it coming from (or being used as) a bit of a joke, but even that is debatable.
I suppose it is somewhat of a door of choices for the reader... laugh it off as a silly forum meme (reminding us to be relaxed) or be angered over not being taken seriously. -
Perhaps it is just me, but I tend to imagine such posts as though they are being a bit tongue in cheek and not typing all capital letters in seriousness.
While the point may be serious and/or valid, I tend to view it as joking around with the delivery.
It very well may be that I give the benefit of the doubt too easily, but it certainly allows me to enjoy the forums a lot more than if I didn't!!
EDIT:
And the same with the "calm down" posts, heehee! -
Quote:Zap! Zap!!I actually started with an Electric/Electric (it's lightning, it HAS to hurt! Oh, and should probably be hard to dodge too...) And despite (perhaps because of) dying many many times, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Certainly forced me to learn as much about the game as I could- I learned pulling before I learned that you could replace enhancements. Learned to view and think about every fight before rushing in, learned that other players are fantastic to have around (meatshields!), and loved to crash and burn play-style. If I screwed up, I died, and I learned from my mistake (Ok, no more attacking 50 foot tall pumpkin monsters...). Learned how to keep enemies away- combination of Tesla Cage and Lightning Clap. Learned that there is no shame in running. Learned that it is hard to have more fun than nuking the hell out of some enemies that just killed you.
If I had started with a melee character, I may not have even stuck around, but that's just me. Unless they are religiously opposed to ranged fighting, I stick to my recommendation of a Blaster.
Should note that I joined during the Halloween event.
I started with Electric/Electric, it became my first 50 and it is the character I still play most of the time!
I honestly think that there is something very special about the Elec/Elec Blaster, as there are quite a few of us who started that way and fell in love with the game. I think, part of it for that particular set is the versatility and utility... along with the excitement (and I love the effects as well)!!
Anyway...
I have to say... a good answer to the question could actually be:
Play a Blaster for 20+ levels and then play ANY melee AT and powerset and they're ALL the easiest!!(although, possibly boring in comparison)
-
If I had the final say and ultimate power (which you all delude yourselves to believe that I don't) on what Beast Mastery's pets would have been (keeping the limitations that they had in place, as they've explained them - no resources for additional/different models... just what we have right now), I am thinking I would have gone for three wolves, two panthers and one male lion.
I now return you to your bizarre offscreen scenario! -

Quote:Wait... you mean I'll be able to just log in with all my toggles already on from the last time I played?Quote:WOW!!! Awsome. So when I log Average Bob back in his faithfull German Shepard will still be by his side?
It just seems so foreign to what I expect and/or am used to.
It feels somewhat like seeing a ghost or some bit of magic... where your brain just does a flip and refuses to fully grasp what it is being told. -
Quote:Nice post. So, is the problem that there's too much magic, or that magic and other themes are frequently mixed together? The game often treats all the various origins and themes as simply parts of the world, rather than "let's tell a magic story now" and "this is a tech story". Even a heavily sci-fi-focused zone like RWZ has Vanguard wizards and Rikti magi, and a heavily magic-focused zone like DA still has prominent non-magical elements, like appearances from Malta and the 5th column.
I would say that the people having a problem are likely having it for the reason that you point out (beyond any other possible personal reasons, by individual): things are pretty mixed and you don't often get full doses of just one theme.
In fact, perhaps the magically-themed stories do tend to remain more about the magic, where other origins are often, at least, touched by magic and other origins.
I don't have a problem with how things are (although, I would enjoy some more old fashion tights-wearing enemies, but that's just something I'd enjoy), but you might be on to something there!
That and some people just definitely have a problem with magic. -
Quote:What is most interesting, to me, about this sort subject is that what is easiest will also be partially controlled by what an individual person actually finds fun. On average, we can make some pretty safe assumptions, but there are absolutely cases where a person's style of enjoyment can skew our general standards. For this discussion, let's set the following rules:
-The new player has never played CoH or an other MMO before
-The new player has access to every AT except the EAT's
-The new player has the inf nor the money to deck out his character with IO sets.
-The character has to be "fun" to start playing with, and not only start becoming fun in it's late 30's.
-Please elaborate your choice, why that AT and those sets?
What is easiest may actually be boring to some - not simply because it is easy, but the actual approach may just prove to be uninteresting to that person (and that can actually make things difficult). Since most everything in this game can be pretty easy, the true answer to this cannot be answered singularly. Fun can have an extreme affect on the level of ease that someone finds something to be.
That being said...
I certainly disagree with Master Minds as well. In order for them to be "easy", for the most part, you have to know a few things - and possibly set up some better keybindings.
Being forced to answer what is the easiest AT/Powerset, I really do have to go with one of the melee ATs. It doesn't get easier to understand... turn on your defenses, if you've got them, run up and hit your enemies. Drop them before they drop you.
Now, I'm torn between Scrappers and Brutes (as it always is, ain't it!).
Brutes have the added survivability, which could mean a lot. Playing these ATs may seem easy to us and all, but nothing is more frustrating to a player than when they sweep through the mission, then stand toe-to-toe with the final boss and lose their hitpoints faster than the enemy.
Still, the Scrapper's criticals may add up just as well, I'm not a numbers guy.
The only negative about Fury, in my opinion, for this concept is if they figure out Fury... then they might get obsessed with keeping the Fury Bar up and feel too compelled to push push push and put themselves into danger over their heads.
So, not fully understanding how Fury works could actually benefit them, hehe... then again... Maybe pushing would serve them best anyway (both for fun and for ease, with the fury bar being up high).
As an aside, I always like the suggestion of playing Blasters first. Not everyone will enjoy it, but those of us who do will best enjoy learning this game from that standpoint. It truly is a great way to learn and experience the game... Of course, as per the beginning of my reply, if they don't find that fun, then it is a terrible choice!!
Truth is... there are far more than just square and round pegs and holes...
