Quote:No kiddin'?! I never would have guessed!... about a year before the peasantry, which seems like plenty of privilege to me.
(I say this as a Tier 9 VIP)
Quote:...On the other hand, does it suck for the people that thought this would be exclusive and spent literally hundreds of dollars to get them now? Sure does. But I bet the fact that they could make a pretty penny off of these AGAIN overlooks that small inconvenience.
It was stated only slightly more vague than it has been recently, but I do recall it being said (if they need to point to anything, hehe).
Seriously, the more I read about this topic, the more I agree very much with this:
Quote:Here's a suggestion: make "T9 VIP" go away, turn it into a "Revolving Tier" and let everyone have access to it, regardless of what tier they are actually on. This way you still get your points (money) and at least there's no pretence of creating VIP costume content only.
I think costume sets are too big of a thing in this game to keep such great things so highly gated.
I've always felt that way, long before Freedom came, and I still feel that way.
I'd rather see more people using the bits and pieces than have access to a bunch of things I might not even use myself. -
The set may not be the best, but it is infectious.

Quote:I'd say that approach started with Going Rogue. Especially since they were planning the new business model before Going Rogue, so I'd say you're right about that.I wonder how they'd market a new system now post-Freedom?
We're coming up to 3 Issues now without any new game systems - we've been getting the usual free zones, power sets and costume parts as part of our subs - but would any new game system also be free to VIPs?
Currently, VIPs are marketed as having "full access" to the game - which could imply that any new game systems would be included in the deal too - and that could make pitching ideas for new game systems difficult, as they'd require a lot of development time and resources for a smaller return on the investment - although one possible way of avoiding that would be to make a new game system be part of an expansion pack rather than a stand-along item, which would allow them to sell it to VIPs too.
Of course, they may change that plan, but it's a good guess. -
Quote:Very nice detective work, Chase. Thanks!Positron did provide some info on the archnemesis thing ages ago. Not sure if it was on the boards or an interview, but it was pre-cryptic's-other-product-to-remain-nameless. I recall that when I saw that other place's nemesis system I noted how it paled in comparison to Posi's plan (though there were some similarities).
EDIT: it had to be Pre-Issue 8. Found an archived interview talking about I8 with the following:
EDIT: found it- positron's "ask a dev" on these boards. Unfortunately, unavailable, but I found a google cache of another gaming forum where someone reposted it.
Quote:Can you tell us anything about the hinted Archenemy system?
I designed (meaning wrote up and worked out) an Archenemy system for City of Heroes where you collected ?tips? about a super-powered Villain, and then when you got enough tips, turned them in and in essence crafted your Archenemy. This Archenemy would show up on your normal missions until you worked out with your Contact that you wanted to ?take him down?. That would spark a short story-arc ending with your Archenemy thrown in the Zig. Tips would then start dropping again, so you could craft a new Archenemy to plague you. Eventually, your rogues? gallery would break out of the Zig and hunt you down collectively, and you'd have to defeat them all and stick them back in jail.
Sound cool? Yeah, I think so to. Problem is, it's a HUGE system to implement, involving multiple teams to get everything working just right. I?m being a stickler about it too, I don't want it 'half-implemented' or a simplified version of it done. Stuff keeps coming up that needs one or more of the teams that could be working on Archenemies, so it just has never had a chance to happen... yet. I keep pushing for this, and hope that someday it will be a reality for the users to play with.
I don't recall reading that before... that is an excellent plan, Positron!!
I hope, some day, the work for it can be done! -

Thanks for that last post, Arcana.
I love learning aspects of craftsmanship for most any realm, subject and/or trade.
I've found such tidbits to prove themselves useful in surprising situations. So, I enjoyed and appreciated that. -
The Tin Crown...
I thought it might be silly, but I've been wearing it everywhere and everyone seems to be buzzing about me. -

Zwill's system is just bogged down... from browsing all of those hat catalogs...

When I saw this thread title, I thought it was going to be about having E.T. the way it was in the theatre and without a digitally animated E.T. and removed guns... Then I looked at the forum section and realized what was meant, hehe... Then I decided to post this unhelpful reply in case it caused a smile.
-
Oh, if they removed the Body Sliders I'd quit too!
Although, I don't see that as being a "small thing" by any stretch of the imagination!!
(that entire sentence seems like a play on the topic of the body slider)
Sliders for the bodies and the faces are enormous elements of my enjoyment and appreciation of this game for tremendous amounts of customization.
I can't stand to play any game that doesn't let me customize my character... besides Pac-Man. I'm okay with looking like Pac-Man. Anything else... No way! -

We definitely don't need an RP channel.
However, this game could use a NonRP channel for all of the out of character chatting people seem to do. -
I think the real question is...
How did such a normal person gain access to these forums?? -
LOL
Quote:Hey now! Back off, buster. Golden Girl is mine!
Of course, I meant it in an entirely harmless platonic way...
Still, you made your move, but... sorry, bud, but how'd that work out for ya?
Still... I just love the use of "normal" in the thread title.
And, also, thank you very much, Zwill. -

I'm no numbers guy, but it doesn't get any more uber than my E3 Blaster! AmirightOrAmiright??
Seriously though, the Elec/Elec/Elec Blaster Blaptroller is the most fun I have in this game and is exactly the kind of playstyle that suits me and my favorite character the best!
I zap, I blap, I sap, I hold and I whap them all into next week.
I don't need no stinkin' defenses when my enemies are held, drained of endurance and/or laying defeated on the floor.
My damage may be lesser than other Blaster sets... my secondary effects may not be as kind as other's... And my health bar may be almost gone by the end of a tough fight... But I just don't enjoy it any other way! -
Floating coins above contacts' heads!
Oh wait...

Quote:I mean, seriously. I could punch a hole in every ******* thing you say in here, but what is the ******* point?Actually it does, you just refuse to acknowledge it because it refutes your argument. It also shows how much less newer players have to spend than the long term vets had to spend.
Compared to the old system where you had no option but to spend hundreds of dollars on the game because everything was gated behind what we now call VIP status, and no option but to wait years to get access to the rewards desired.
Throwing money up front at the time is exactly what people had been suggesting the devs let them do for years because they didn't want to wait 87 months to get the newest vet rewards.
Yes. If the devs choose to reward subscriber loyalty then the guy that spent $1,305 bucks in subscription fees should get significantly more in rewards than the 4 year vet that only spent $720 bucks, and the 4 year vet should get more than the 1 year vet who only spent $180 bucks. That's a no brainer.
Yes, cuz whether or not a person likes the Tier 9 costumes is a matter of opinion. They aren't any better or worse than the other costume rewards.
People try and have a conversation and then you get replies that are just tossing out incorrect and ill-conceived counters that we can then reply to, point for point and be dragged into having to explain blatantly simple truths all for what? No ******* reason.
And that is exactly where such "debates" lead to... no reason.
You say things and it is clearly proven untrue, but you stick to them. You list the costs of the previous unlocks... Yet, it is a simple truth that they did not cost those amounts... they were unlocked along the way of being subscribed, with which you received a plethora of other benefits, far beyond that subscription total.
Yet, you wave these numbers like some grand flag to show the petty complainers that they are asking for handouts. It's tired, it's pathetic and I'm seriously sick of trying to be a ******* polite person on these forums, mate. -
Yeah, I get it, Forbin. You're being intentionally obtuse by working a different argument into what was being said. And using certain numbers in attempt to bolster your decided debating point against someone that was talking about something else.
Quote:Opinion and taste is not the basis I was making the distinction... Just the number of parts alone, Forbin, show your mistake.Yes, cuz whether or not a person likes the Tier 9 costumes is a matter of opinion. They aren't any better or worse than the other costume rewards.
I'm not saying this to complain, I am just pointing it out: besides the chests, legs, gloves, boots, belts, chest pieces, helmets, details, auras, glowie and non glow options, capes, wings, waterfall friggin' cape, weapon models for most weapon categories...
EDIT: Oh, right... where was I... Glowie Beam Swords! Jetpacks! Locked Tech-Wings!
