  1. While the movies do indeed have Howard Stark as his father, we have to give credit to Samothrake for making a great case and providing a pretty air-tight proposal for working out of it.
If they make an Iron Man reboot in a few years, I'd say it is time to add another Stark in the timeline.

Don't get me wrong... this doesn't bother me at all. Time gets really weird with all these sorts of things (fictional characters carried on, and having their stories retold, for generations). This especially becomes an issue when things are attached to the WWII era (or any significant period in history).
We're drifting farther and farther away from it, hehe...
That started happening with the returning Vietnam war background characters a few decades ago... Hmm, wait, did he just say, "when we came back from Nam"?? He'd be like... 10 years old when the US left Nam!

Anyway... The Stark thing does still work today (albeit a bit sloppily). In a few years, it'll be a lot worse. And Samothrake's suggestion should work.

The timey wimey stuff isn't a problem for me though.
  2. I hope the title is missing an E and not an s...

    <.<

    >.>

  3. I agree with Tannim222, above, about Hulk's reaction in grabbing the pilot. An instinctive grab and then a toss of disinterest, as the jet needs to be beaten to dust, hehehe...

Also... Enough really can't be said about Robert Downey Jr.
Everyone pretty much knows that his talent and work is masterful, but the way he strides in as Tony Stark and delivers all of the techno-babble with such confidence, personality, style and that insanely-genius-gifted plus exceedingly-arrogant manner is rather impressive (when we remember it is an actor delivering lines).

That also reminds me of another one of my favorite lines/exchanges (if I remember it correctly):
Iron Man: (To Dr. Banner) Ah, finally someone else who speaks English!
Captain America: Is that what just happened??

I understand why you're saying that, but I think being based in Paragon City and having exotic locations to travel to for adventure is desirable.

As much as I loved the idea of a whole world under this dystopian rule... Both before we knew what they were doing and after we learned, it just seemed obvious to me that Praetoria should be a higher-level world to interact with.

While I understand the love of creating Praetorians and being immersed in that world, it just seems like the realities of the gaming population and preferences would have made doing the Atlas Park revamp along with high-level Praetorian content for Primal characters the smarter way to go.

There was a lot of quality work done... especially the world building and the new zone-connecting tech... but the idea of splitting up the starting points even more (and it only being a world from 1-20) always seemed like a not-so-good idea to me.

But hey... I'd rather people go for things and shoot for things that don't always work. Sometimes greater things happen than when you stick with the smart money.
I don't regret giving my money for their experiment, at the very least.
  5. As far as I know...
Accounts that couldn't be fixed before can now be fixed.

Transfer Tokens are awarded on the 1st of each month.
Points and Tokens are awarded on the billing date of each month.

The things that have not been fixed: Yearly Veteran Badges and Reward Tokens upfront for prepaid subscription time.
  6. So much fun!
And so well done! Fitting everything that they did in, and giving all the characters just-about equal quality time, is not an easy task at all.
The character interactions, and just the grasps of the characters and staying true to them... Joss Wehdon knows and respects those aspects so well.
Great job writing and directing this movie.
And, while all the actors did a terrific job, I just have to say that Mark Ruffalo was fantastic. As soon as I saw him, I thought, "Oh, yeah... he's got this" and he didn't disappoint. He had such a great unassuming and disheveled manner about him. It reminded me a bit of Peter Falk, actually.

So many great fun and funny lines and moments, but...
One moment that I loved, pretty early on, was Black Widow's reaction of utter fear to Banner's fake-out of getting angry. The whole audience was laughing and there she was, not just rightly frightened, as I first suspected, but truly, deeply traumatized... something in her troubled psyche really threw her for a loop... I think the insane level of ferocity of Hulk and, perhaps more-so, that neither her physical skills nor her skills of persuasion would have any effect on him.
Whatever the reasons, her eyes full of fear sold that moment into something much more intense than a quick prank/gag.

"Puny god" has to be the best line though.

"Shakespeare In The Park" was one of many great Stark lines, haha...

In The Avengers, in contrast, even when the characters were leaping about wildly, it was presented in a relatively straightforward fashion. This made things like the Hulk sliding down buildings or Captain America bouncing his shield off things much more impressive, since they were presented within a framework of otherwise fairly realistic-looking movement.
    ...
Very true! Not only the lack of slow motion... but I personally dislike the super high shutterspeed style that's been a tired staple (mostly since the success of Gladiator... blech!).
It was great to see the action in such a "natural" way, yet (no surprise here) you could still make it all out! It just takes good work... seems like people these days skip the good work part and rely on techniques they think (or are taught) are necessary.

If the only option was flailing arms and legs... wow, I can't quite find the words to express how much I'd not like that, haha.

As an additional option though, it could make a funny one (I'd rather see a panicked flailing option for Flight, hehehe).

I tend to use those T1 immobilizations to stop approaching enemies. The problem I found with Web Grenade was that by the time it had finished animating, the enemy was in melee range, or darn close to it. Combine that with the redraw of the bow (which would be the same case with the Assault Rifle) and I was left wondering if I would not have been better off just continuing to shoot the enemy. After testing that theory, I found I was pretty much correct.

But hey, you are required to take it anyway. I strongly suggest seeing how it works for you, GrantAnderson.
Oh, I completely understand. And I think you're right about that usage of Web Grenade. I guess that is why I really only use it for runners (and for tying down lowlifes that need to be blown up... See, my Arch/Dev is an anti-hero vigilante type who basically feels like criminals are scum with no rights at all, haha).
And, yep... we can't skip it!

  14. Nice write-up, Winterminal.

I, too, have an Archery/Devices and enjoy its unique style, but I wanted to comment on Web Grenade! It's not that I actually disagree with you or anything (although, some people do love Web Grenade for its -rech), I've found I rarely ever used Web Grenade in the course of play until I started trying to make myself include it now and then.
And I just wanted to share the best use of it...
Web Grenade a particularly annoying, final enemy... Make them convulse with a nice Tase... And lay a Bomb at their feet and walk away. Extra points for turning on walk and more if you have a cigar in your character's mouth.

Actually, I have found it useful to keep a stunned enemy stationary on a few occasions.
  15. I'd imagine that a lack of consensus will be the result!

I can't sing enough about how much I love Elec/Elec/Elec!!
    The Blaptroller!
You can blap, you can sap, you can blast and you can hold!
3 Holds, easily allow you to lock down bosses (fire your two ranged holds and if one of them fails, hit him with a third)... Or just race in and sap all their endurance without holding them... Lock down anyone that you missed... lightning field, voltaic sentinel actually makes up quite a bit for the general lower damage of Electric Blast (but then again, it's not really that bad and it is Energy damage and has some good AoE).
Depending on my mood, I'm a hover Blaster, a full-on Blapper, a mix of ranged and melee, a sapper or a holder... and each and every one of them in-between.

Anyway... I'm not saying it is the greatest... But, I tend to think of it as having the best symmetry of all the themed sets.

I've heard similar things about Ice/Ice... But, let's face it... While ice may be colder... Electricity is cooler!
  16. This is an outage!
Where is my Panther Transformation Travel Power??
This is a claw to the face!!
  17. And... to the OP, obviously I'm comfortable with any and all sets as SO-only, but...

I was going to mention that my Bots/FF MM is perfect without anything more.
However, OmnipotentMerlin makes a great point in that MMs (and some other ATs and sets) need to be bought/unlocked.

For me, the elec/elec/elec Blaster works wonderfully without any sets or bonuses.
I think it is because of the utility and versatility of the set. I just love the combination. It's the perfect playstyle for me. Keeps me on my feet as I leap in, hold, sap, blap and blast however I choose with each encounter.
Not everyone enjoys playing a Blaster like that though.
  18. Sorry, I didn't make it back to the forums yesterday!

Do you mix up a few dual- or triple-aspect IOs in a power to get the better enhancement value in fewer slots than SOs (or even common IOs) provide?

I ask this because my girlfriend plays the game, but - like you - isn't interested in putting in the amount of work necessary to max out a build. However, she will look at a Devastation: Damage/Recharge and think "I need more Damage and Recharge slotted in my Executioner's Shot. Let's slot that!" Likewise, she will pick up globals like the KB protection one, when she knows that it's something that will benefit her.

It's a matter of personal perspective, I know, but I don't see any difference between your attitude and hers, but I see a pretty big difference between how the two of you actually play and slot.
Nope, I don't/haven't ever done any of that.

I did make a build, finally, for my main, Electric-Knight using an intelligent Frankenslotting approach (much like Ironblade talked about... which I completely agree with... if I were to ever delve into using IOs, I'm pretty sure that is how I'd almost always go about it... seems to be the best bang for the buck, in my rather limited opinion, hehe).

I just chose individual pieces of the different sets to get me as much recharge, damage, accuracy as I could without losing anything and while picking up a few small bonuses along the way.
However, that was a long while ago and I still have not made the build in-game.

Although... I did start it, by crafting some of the enhancements and I actually (only just remembering this) slotted a couple of dual (or was it triple) IOs into Short Circuit. As that is a power that I can see benefiting from having more than I can accomplish with just standard slotting.

Just thinking about getting all the ingredients and recipes for each of the different pieces of sets starts to make my eyes glaze over... I really can't explain it.

The only other thing that I think plays a factor is that I pretty much do all my slotting at once... not here and there, along the way.
I'll get myself started on the IOs around 17, if not earlier (I don't tend to speed through the levels). 22 and 27 and so on. I try and put my bids in way ahead of time, so I can just scoop them all up when I'm ready and slot them up as quickly as can be. I buy extras for the levels in-between and/or to sell back for profit.

It may be a much smaller difference to switch to using other IOs (and they may give a much bigger benefit) than I imagine, but I've just become so comfortable with it and haven't had any reason to break out of it. And I don't really enjoy the process, so... I just do what I already know and spend as little time, energy and thought on it as possible, hehe.
It is strange, because it is about the exact opposite of how I approach just about everything else in my life... LOL.

Sorry for the continued thread derail!

EDIT: Maybe a big factor is that I tend to have to put a lot of time and research into things that I do (if I am going to do something, I have to do it masterfully, haha...)... So, that means adding this and that and comparing and contrasting and there just seems like way too many options for me to want to bother with!

I can already hear the people screaming "The Devs said IOs were not required!" The Devs also said that five freaking years ago. Can you get by with SOs in end-game content? Sure, you probably could. It would be a struggle, and you would be constantly falling behind your teammates. But why would you ignore the metric ton of IOs pouring into your inventory, except to be some sort of hipster who refuses to accept a core game element? It all reminds me of so many grandmothers refusing to accept that "new-fangled technolojomy and all them video-boxes."

All I'm saying is that there is no logic whatsoever behind willfully ignoring an aspect of the game.
I can try and explain my reasons and hopefully that'll make some sense to you.

While I don't technically use SOs (I use the standard IOs so that I don't end up with diminished and/or red enhancements as I level), none of my characters have any IO sets or set bonuses.
    Why not?
There may be a few reasons, but the big one is that I simply do not enjoy spending my time sifting through the various recipes and figuring out what to use and what I need and what bonuses they'll give me and what the overall numbers would be compared to just straight-up standard enhancements.
As an example, do you know how some people simply do not enjoy role-playing? It's the same for me with the inventions.
I can't entirely explain why this is the case (other than simply not enjoying it), because it is not difficult or over-my-head type stuff.
I think it mostly just feels tedious to me when I have approached it. And what is the point of doing something that I find tedious when my fun is not gated behind it whatsoever... which leads to the other half of this point... I am able to play this game through any and all content (usually solo) without any set bonuses or frankenslotting or any IOs (again, I do use the standard IOs). I love playing the game and have a blast when I do and I never have people complaining about my performance when I am teamed with others. In fact, I've been praised by some who most around here consider a rather astute min/maxer and in-game achiever.

I've never felt much need, nor seen much reason, to acquire an extra few percentages (when I'm filling out my 50s' enhancements with all level 50 IOs, I laugh and/or cringe -depending on my mood, I guess- at how insignificant the difference is, hehe).

So, to put it very simply... I don't enjoy the process of IOing and making builds and my fun in this game is not gated, at all, behind doing any of that.
If I wasn't able to have fun while "willfully ignoring" this aspect of the game, I likely wouldn't be playing this game.

Also, from my experiences, you seem to be placing too much importance/relevance on having IOs in your build vs. not having them. It's never been a negative issue for as long as I've been playing.

Why do I find the IO sets more tedious than standard IOs?
    That's an interesting question, Electric-Knight.
Oh, thank you! Would you like to answer it now?
Okay, I'll give it a try... Might I add that I love your writing style?
No, but please do go ahead.

Okay... I don't particularly enjoy spending any time making/acquiring enhancements. I also like the simplicity of the standard enhancements: Damage, Accuracy, Recharge, et cetera. It's very quick and simple for me to just figure out which of those I want to add into a power and be done with it. I fully recognize that it is not very complicated to work with dual and triple types of enhancements, but it just goes beyond my tolerance level for having to spend the time on it.
More importantly, with the standard IOs, when I want 15 level 35 Damage enhancements... I can just acquire X15 of all the same ingredients I'll need and, voila, I'm done.

When I've looked at the numbers for using IO sets, I find that I prefer the idea of Frankenslotting, but that just compounds the process of figuring out which of what and where and... Blah... Like I said, this is just something that I don't seem to find fun and could never get myself to spend my free time doing it.

I certainly ain't dumb... far from it... and I spend my time working through a lot of complicated things, but, for whatever reason, the IO system goes beyond my tolerance for within this game.
And I am someone who has greatly enjoyed the complexity of much more advanced crafting systems in other games (SWG's crafting system, for one).
    *shrugs*

The great news is... I have zero problems playing this game, and playing with others in this game, no matter the content, without using a single Invention beyond the standard ones (okay, fine, maybe a celerity stealth on a few).

Lastly (because this post was way too short and I'm sure I have everyone's distinct attention), I don't view not acquring greater bonuses as "gimping".

There's zero problem with people having different tastes than my own, so no need for any negativity about this.
  21. I don't think I'm ever going to fully go through with making Mr. Popcorn.

The idea just spawned from a silly conversation about shooting popcorn as a super power and it got me to wondering if customizing Energy Blast could cover that concept...
Which led to me designing the costume for a powersuit that cooked and fired greasy, buttered popcorn at superb levels of force and heat!

Maybe a little less of a concept, but more of a power and costume idea!

  23. I've got to say that I am surprised (and I am happy to say so).

Not that I doubted this particular movie would be popular, but just in the historical sense... A super hero movie with a full team of very different make-ups, primary-color costumes and quite over-the-top characters not only was massively successful and popular... but shattered Harry Potter weekend numbers?

I'm not one to drool over these sorts of numbers and records, but, man... I remember going to see the first X-Men movie and how, going into it, all comicbook fans were buzzing about how this one movie could make or break the potential future of comicbooks to movies (due to Hollywood's streak following approach and fear of stepping outside the realm of a sure thing).

Congratulations, Marvel, Avengers and comicbook fans... and to all you movie-goers who weren't/aren't comicbook fans (now maybe you get to understand the appeal)!

  24. Oh, I'd love to see some dynamic content added to the mix with street spawns and such.
I mean, I absolutely would not want to see the majority of street/zone spawns changed and/or turned gimmicky (I like them just the way they are), but I'd love to see extra, interesting content and situations occur.

I, personally, still spend a good amount of my time street sweeping. I've always thought it is an excellent aspect of this game, even if the mainstream playstyle has pretty much ditched that in favor of teaming and TFs.

    Anywho...
Dynamic spawns and events such as this have long been a request. Some more involved than others: something like your idea is great and pretty non-intrusive and fits well while saving cats out of trees or making a more dynamic fire rescue are different and more involved.
I'd like to see these sorts of things added, but I've always been a fan of such stuff.
