Quote:\o/Do you have a developer comment indicating that they "intend" for us to play any specific powerset in any specific way, or that they disapprove of any "unintended" power or powerset usage that isn't directly related to an exploit? I'd like to see it, please.
Before you answer that, I've broached this subject with Castle on more than one occasion, and I know that he thinks it's absolutely wonderful to see players turning the game on it's head this way and doing things he never expected, as long as they aren't exploits. And Castle's sentiment is pretty much standard for the entire team. So you might want to re-examine your determination to kick other players based on what you think the developers "intend".
That "play the way you're told" crap went out the door with Jack Emmert. And you don't get to reinstate it, mister. If you want to be a build nazi, you go right ahead, but don't try to justify it by claiming that you're just following the rules.
And for anyone else claiming to be entitled to kick other players for not having your idea of an acceptable build, the only person you're really hurting is yourself. A good player with a "gimp" build is a better player, and person, than you, because that player is willing to take a chance on something different, isn't afraid to deviate from the cookie cutter mentality and can actually teach you more about the game than you'll ever learn from reading the wiki and copying someone else's build on the forums. Nor will a new player with a "gimp" build learn anything by being kicked, except that you're a selfish ****** who can't even be bothered to talk to someone and help them improve their experience in this game.
Here here!
Or is it Hear Hear!
Or... Hear here!

Wait... don't kick... -
Quote:Yep, that's how I see it as well!...Buying salvage and crafting generics is a small hassle, but once it's done I have no more hassles. Having to update SOs over and over is a much bigger hassle.
...
I really always hated how, every level, my enhancements decreased.
IOs appealed to me for no other reason than they wouldn't degrade as I advanced.
Now... My oddness is that I've never once done any set enhancements or anything.
Just simple/generic IOs for me.
Although, I have made and used the Celerity Stealth enhancement to get the stealth power!
Literally... no other IO sets yet for me.
I'm thinking about finally trying out a build with them, but yeah... I really love the standard setups I have for my power enhancements.
I'll have to have the numbers shown right in front of my face, "Look! By having all of these set enhancements, none of your stats will be lower, AND some will behigher because of the set bonuses!".
Otherwise... I feel very content crafting or buying generic IOs and casually kicking some butt in this game
All power to those that enjoy going deeper though, no objections here! -
I have to admit, I am really curious to find out how the Radeon 3850HD will handle UM.
Based on what we've been told so far, I'm thinking it might be able to handle medium-lower settings, or simply just really low settings... However, the card seems to have always performed better than I've expected, so who knows.
I could also be wrong and it won't handle the new settings at all!
Thus, why I am eager to find out, hehe.
I'm not too worried. Just curious (And ever more-so as the day gets closer and closer to when I can find out).

Mr. Nobody: (Okay, I'm not really the Red Name you are looking for)
I just wanted to mention one other possibly helpful fact.
Closed Betas generally have multiple stages. So "access to Closed Beta" is not limited to initial access.
This Issue has some rather serious and big changes (Think about how large the update is. The file size is not growing that much larger, it is replacing other files. Thus, the chance for bugs and mistakes is larger. Thus, it is best to move things very slowly and steadily before bringing in a larger number of people. Especially people who are not regular beta testers. I am pretty confident that, once they get these major modifications [Looking at Ultra Mode specifically] under control and in a stable place that they are happy enough with, more and more testers will be given access).
Closed Beta has multiple stages/waves itself, and it is likely in their best interest to greatly limit the flow of invitees for a while.
This is not as simple as inviting a large number of players to check out Dual Pistols.
There can (likely will be) many odd bugs and hiccups and things everyone involved (Including the eager hopeful testers yet to be invited) will want out of the way before having more people in there.
I understand you just want a red name to confirm things, but, as has been said, this is an open forum and I'm not derailing things by trying to just offer a bit of perspective, some thoughts and observations.
Even if you don't find it helpful, someone else might.
Also, for anyone who may be feeling a bit anxious to get in and check it out...
Just figure that until they invite you in, it's not ready for you to test yet.
Until it is, there's nothing to even think about on that.
Always has worked for me, at least.
Best of luck!!
-
Yeah, you should be able to just log in.
Go through the site's Knowledge Base and file a Costumer Support Ticket and they should get back to you quickly (The few times I've ever had to get help, I got it within a day or two).
I hope you get in and I hope you like what you find!!
Best of luck!
Oh... And I don't see why anyone would attack you for such a question! We're, overall, a friendly lot here!! -
I'm not griping about no double xp in AE or anything (Honestly, I also don't have any cause to get any double xp for any of my characters)...
Just wanted to say that no double xp on AE means players just looking to do normal, fun, whatever they designed AE missions for their characters do not get the double rewards that they can elsewhere.
It's not always about Power-Leveling or Anti-Farming or whatever the hell you want to throw in with any single comment about AE.
Of course, saying such a thing will never stop people from continuously perpetuating the needless bickering and all that, but whatever.
Hey, did someone mention AE??
The simpleheads speak simultaneously:
Oooh, I better yell at Farmers!
Oooh, I better yell at Anti-Farmers!
Oooh, I better criticize power-leveling!
Oooh, I better support power-leveling!
Haha...
Hey... People... The AE apparently does not have double rewards.
Last we heard, it was unintentional (I do recall that and do not recall ever hearing otherwise, no links from me, but I feel pretty solid in that memory).
I wonder if it is still unintentional or if they decided it was for the best.
*shrugs*
Then again... really? Did the OP need to suggest the Devs are liars?
How about a little respect? You know... that stuff your legal guardians never taught you.
Heh... This thread is a mess.
Someone nerf it please!!
-
Hey there!
How go the plans thus far?
Things working out so far?
Conquer any small countries?
And of course we remember you... You're that angry citizen guy! -
Great feedback and responses here! As just this thread title alone screams for an easy launch of attacks (Zero offense intended toward the OP).
Claws is just such a popular and successful powerset that the idea that it is or ever was "useless" is such an extreme thing, hehe
I think this is an example of how cool the different powersets are within this game : )
(And of how cool this community is, at large)
Different mentalities and/or playstyles and such may not fit with all options, for sure...
In case it helps, I'd suggest to think of Claws as hyper fury attacking.
While some sword users might come and give a big swing... The Claws flash, slash and dice in the same amount of time and with the same amount of endurance spent... You just use more attacks in a shorter amount of time.
I know this is what everyone has already said (DPS), but... I thought thinking of it beyond numbers and such might help a bit.
Think of a wild cat slashing you up with multiple strikes before you can blink.
As someone else said, "Claws is awesome in a box"... I'll add that, out of that box, Claws is a hyper stabbing ball of fury!
Good luck!! -
Quote:That is great, Umbral! Seriously, good job!I had a problem with spiders when I was younger but I forced myself to get over it because I had a few crazy spider/snake ladies that I was very fond of and helped encourage me to not freak out around creepy crawlies.
Quote:Probably the craziest thing that's ever happened to me was when I was working a summer at a Boy Scout camp in Texas. When I was opening up my sleeping bag to clean it out and take it home, I found 3 brown recluse spiders living in the foot of it, complete with webs and all. I had been sleeping in that bag for the entire 6 week period and had convinced myself that the slight crawling sensation I felt on my legs at night as I was falling asleept was just my imagining things. I never once got bit either.
Seriously... no phobia is necessary for that to freak someone out.
That's my rule with... well anything (Besides all the multitudes of microscopic beings that are constantly on me and in me and all that jazz)... Stay off of me... If you are going to be on me... I want to know about it first.
I don't have phobias, but if I suddenly have something crawling on me, I might jump up and do the flailing dance of foolishness to get it off.
That goes for any species though, hehe... Excluding ones with sharp claws or teeth, in which I know jumping about would probably be a bad idea.
ANYWAY... Yeah... if something is sharing my sleeping bag... I want to know about it... and I hope she is attractive.
Man... Umbral, that story is enough to create a mental issue all on its own, hehe. I think I'd have problems to work through if that happened to me, hehe.
Now I am going to unzip and check my sleeping bags every single day when I camp.
I always turn my shoes upside down and shake them out before putting them on already... -
Hey! Not everyone who posted was a fearful git!!
(I know, I know, my posts always get ignored! Although, maybe this one won't because I insulted others... haha... I was only joking btw)
I hate to be dazzled by pretty colors and all... but that Chromatapelma Cyanopubescens really has remarkable coloring.
Very cool!
It's odd though... Most people that I know with fears of arachnids tend to have much less of a problem with the tarantula types of spiders.
Most, mind you, not all.
They often tell me something about them being bigger or some such makes them less scary. Or that, somehow, the tarantula is a bit more cute looking than other spiders.
I don't know... Don't ask me... I don't have those fears. I love spiders, I also love snakes... I just tend to not like people so much.
-
Quote:Haha awww... That's kind of cute!
Not overly exciting (Unless it freaks you out), but pretty cool.
One night, I was driving and an animal ran out in the road in front of me. I stopped the car without hitting it and saw, in my headlights, an opossum.
They're a bit creepy looking in general (In a weird/cute sort of way), but...
Suddenly, I noticed that the animal's body was CRAWLING all over itself...
For just a second, I thought it was diseased/infested with something...
But then I realized it was a bunch of her own babies crawling along her back.
After the initial freakiness, it was very cute/endearing... but also a bit disheartening considering the mother was not doing such a good job crossing the street.
Just thought I'd share...

This states they live on their mother's back until they can hunt, so I can only assume that means they live on her back until they figure out how to eat her. Doesn't it just seem like they would?
(Hey, it is a common mental facet, according to some psychologists... So, don't lookit ME like that!!!)

Quote:On Twitter, Positron said a bit ago that he doesn't think any computer can handle ALL of Ultra Mode. Seems to imply that you can toggle some features and will have to choose.
In time, when computer parts become cheaper, full Ultra Mode will become more common place. This is a long term plan they have. If they planned specifically for just today, their hard work of updating the graphics would be irrelevant a month from now.
Except for those of us with technology from the FUTURE!!! Muahahahaha... ha... ha...

Huh...
If attachments are tied to global name... Am I correct in thinking this means we can trade cross servers, Pohsyb?
Also... In case I didn't post yesterday about all this (I did on my guild forums)...
I love this Dev Team and this game!!
Animated tails was a wonderful surprise (I know it may have been coming some day, but not with I17, woohoo!!). Tons of other great changes and additions coming! I am really eager to see what the new emotes are!
/end gush (for now) -
The most immersing content I've found is role-playing with other like-minded players. Especially players that create and enjoy (If you like to create) AE missions designed specifically around adventures and progressive stories involving your own characters.
However, I (and perhaps the universal "you") don't need tailor-made AE arcs for great fun.
I've found just having other players all really sticking to their characters, and going through whatever content this game has to offer, brings a level of immersion that gets me lost within it, creating within it and makes me very happy.
Whether or not people jump against the notion that "role-play" is an acceptable answer to the OP's question, I figured I'd offer my two influence and says so.
It works for me... And you never know!
As far as "immersive content"... I've found no greater than pitching in and being a part of creating and interacting with it via role-playing (Whether it be in radio missions, story arcs, task forces, simply inside bases or whatever).
I hope you find your fun!! -
Yeah, 3 Damage and 3 Recharge for me.
If anyone is still standing, you pop a blue, and Power Sink them... There's your Endurance Drain and Recovery!

I should have left no levels out of my post...
But you're both missing the point...
You still would DING (Yeah, there'd be other words and results and such)...
But it is not just lawyer speak... Notice this, "no level-based modifiers on damage, defense and effectiveness and such".
That is the part that makes level-based systems annoying.
That and out-leveling missions, contacts, story arcs, etc.
No level means, things aren't so stringently tied to that one number.
There are still levels under the hood and there are still greatly varying levels of power as the character progresses...
It just allows for more open options, both for yourself and for teaming and whatnot.
Like I said... with SSK, we're almost there already. -
(Okay, I know this will take up way more time than I should spend on this right now... But I failed to resist... So, I hope some people read this!
AND none of this is a knock on anything to do with CoH. CoH is great! This is just simply the big dream wish list of my personal wants for an ideal game engine. To have the Paragon Studios Team, with the same tremendous focus and wonderful spirit as they've maintained on CoH, would just be fabulous.)
Level-less
SSK all but gets rid of levels, let's go the final step and remove them. You'll still have level of power, but no level-based modifiers on damage, defense and effectiveness and such. Make no mistake... some things will be able to wipe out a lesser powered character. Let's just remove the level numbers and keep it all under the hood.
(albeit, this is more a general opinion of mine and not simply something I'd demand/expect for CoH2.. but still, it is sort of a natural progression for the focus and path CoH has gone through... and is more awesomer, in my opinion).
HUGE zones.
To be able to travel (With your means of travel of choice) from one far side to the other without loads... To be able to get lost in the vast city blocks!
And not just wider areas... But also HIGHER areas...
No invisible ceiling...
In fact...
Fly (By your individually power customized means of preference [including rocket packs, boots, belts, wings, true flight, vehicle, magic carpet, etc.]) up up up and up higher into the upper atmosphere, through the various layers of the atmosphere... And INTO OUTER SPACE!!!
(Outer space survival is based on super skill points that are separate from power choices, but instead points one can spend on other side options, abilities, power enhancements and skills! Spend points on Outer Space Survival and choose from a number of customizations including natural ability, a wide arrange of tech gear, magical spells and so on)
Knockback powers can indeed send your foe back through the atmosphere and towards a deadly plummet back to the Earth!!
Or splat into the Moon!!
MOON ZONE!!!
Moon base, outdoor low-gravity area.
OTHER PLANETS and continued Outer Space (These would likely be expansions).
Enter-able buildings (If not all or most... many more... and many with dynamic content possibly waiting for you inside).
Trains and subways you actually go inside of! With muggers, run-away trains/cars, subway and train rooftop chases...
Work out a vehicle system to avoid City Of Cars and rampant disregard for the laws and for safety (Mainly keep them on the road... probably enforced by super safety systems that will act upon cars veering far over the curb and/or serious police/longbow/super-powered action against any who violate the laws and all. Not as a fun feature to use to create mayhem, but to prevent it... sorry!).
Mission/Instanced Team Maps Remain! I love free flowing outdoor excitement as well, but this is a staple and a great game mechanic and aspect of CoH and will TOTALLY be staying.
Dynamic Content
Little girl that comes crying to you about her cat stuck in a tree, to a young boy who tells you his brother is being roughed up by some Skulls, to some NPC Faction Boss coming for you, "You put my brother into the Zig! Now you're going down!", to archvillain criminal masterminds saying, "You thought YOU could stop my plot for taking over the world?? Now watch helplessly as all these civilians die!" - which prompts an event where the hero (And any allies) must rescue civilians from the clutches of whatever untold dangers the archvillain has unleashed upon them...
More in-depth Fire Rescue content!
And all similar such content for Villains (Including the ability to create the above events as a sort of multi-faceted PvP/PvE game mechanic).
However, the key for Villain content is often best found in allowing the villain to create the plot (which is tougher to implement, but do-able). Villains can scour existing banks, places, securities, heroes (NPC and willing Players) to find devious opportunities for villainous content where different levels of success can be had or lost!
Possible arrests... So be careful! If not... Know good locksmith/bakers and be ready to break your way out, or use your Super Point Earned lawyers and bribes to manipulate your way out of trouble.
...moving right along...
Interactive Environment
Construction workers, drink that coffee and give up on the idea of sleep... this place is full of supers!!
Destroyable (And repairable) environment! From windows and walls, to fire hydrants and mail boxes, to cars and other vehicles (You can get on and/or in them as well... Including BLIMPS :P ), light posts and telephone polls and suspension beams and statues and so on...
Damageable, wield-able and throw-able (Depending on Strength Points... Yes, you can be plenty fully strong from the start... or you can build it over time... yay for Super Points!).
Now, don't fear... This is a city of Supers and they're not all without sensitivity and reason... Plenty geniuses have developed slick nanite repairing procedures and things will be fixed up in time.
However, especially good heroes can go ahead and do some repairs themselves... and save some of the money and resources that continue to get gobbled up by the nanite repair systems.
AND... PLAYERS be ware! You can't simply destroy the city constantly without a price! You are being watched (Most of the time... Super Point spenders on flying under the radar may, under the right circumstances, avoid detection if they're good enough... Just don't destroy a city block in broad daylight)!
Your influence and popularity will be greatly affected by the damage and strain you place on the city yourself (Some collateral damage is understood, of course).
Repairing things on your own time can help repair your image... You may also want to do some more community service and public events, if that's your thing.
Take the Current Amazing Character Creator... And BLOW IT OUT OF THE GALAXY (Surpassing it, I mean)!
This will launch with as many options as CoH1 has PLUS MORE!
Asymmetrical designs and options.
Right and left glove, forearm, bicep, shoulder, eyes, chest, waist, thighs, knees, shins, feet... capable of independent options.
Also include different degrees and types of musculature for different parts of the body.
Broad shoulders, yet lithe limbs? Bulky biceps, but under-worked legs and abs...
And even... HUGE, muscular Right Arm, but an atrophied, thin left arm! (Or whatever combination there of)
Build your own skeletons (Something I've always wanted to see... Might not make it into this game... we'll try!): Think Spore, but just think Pre-Release Spore Anticipation!
How many arms would you like for this costume? 1, 2... 8 did you say?
Plenty of humanoid and non humanoid options (Including pets... Spend the points for it and you can have a pet, multiple pets and maybe even a helpful cyber-pup dynamo!)
A Few More notes...
Minimum requirements will be higher than CoH1.
That's the way tech works.
Graphics will be Ultra Ultra Mode. Still, keeping an artistic eye on the feel of CoH. This will not be Halo nor JLA nor any specific artistic slant that might seem like a popular idea to some artistic designers locked away in the studio.
CoH has and will maintain a somewhat generic, the standard of standard comicbook look to it... Yet, the customization certainly lends itself to open up a much greater diversity. Certain Artistic Styles tend to limit the options of the users/the players' ability to lose their selves in the game world commingled with their own imagination.
I think I believe individual server communities are a good thing (I could be wrong), but I would like to see cross-server capabilities (The free transfer is great, perhaps just having that as a feature of the game, or by allowing shared areas or some such feature... TBD).
Personal "Bases" (homes or whatever the player wishes to make it) as well as SG Bases!
Be somewhat of your own Contact! Use your own head and detective skills to look into information, make decisions on what to do next...
Consistent Contacts that you keep and build a relationship of trust with throughout your career. If Secret Identities aren't your character's thing... You can also make your own NPC contacts that may get information that you may not be able to get in your usual get-up.
And MUCH MUCH MORE!!
Coming not-so-soon!!!
-
Congrats, Demobot!
Hehe, these are crazy! (I don't even bother, but it is fun watching you crazy people best these ridiculously obscure pictures!!)
Lay off the questions about the victory and give Demo the credit!
As Niv said, they're keeping track of edits and all.
Also... wouldn't the filename and url of the pic change if you edit it at the hosting site?
I don't use photbucket, so maybe they allow you to edit it without changing the url? Seems unlikely, as you could mess with A LOT of things that way, hehe. -
Is this a feature to come after animated hair, perhaps?
And I can't get the larger screenshots with my firefox here... not sure what the deal is.
I sort of liked the idea that Golden Girl was just making that up to mess with us.
Do you get a banana symbol when you hover over the pics?? I do! -
About the original question (Or one of them) in this thread...
I completely forgot that people who've crafted enough don't need the recipe. So, there's a big answer in how/why the crafted IOs can be up there for so near (Or under) the price it would cost me to make it myself.
I'm not happy to see this thread derail so badly...
I'm no marketeer... I actually only slot my characters with standard IO's...
I'm a casual, role-playing, sometimes obsessive pew pewing fun-loving kinda gamer...
None of the above actually matters, hehe...
I occasionally visit here to read up on a little of this stuff that I really don't do (Always think that maybe I'll play the market a bit, see if I find it fun at all... pull in some Inf... Just the buy it low, sell at the stores thing. I still haven't done it though, hehe).
eryq2, I just want to say this... You're right about one thing for sure... the prices go up, and what good is making more when you just need more to buy?
This is the seemingly inevitable problem people have.
The bigger the pile, the more you're going to end up taking out of it to pay.
Here's the thing though...
Remember, I am not a marketeer... and I am very very far from being any sort of an economist.
The buyers are the ones raising the prices.
It is mostly the impatient buyer, I'm sure (Not pointing fingers for blame, just sorting through it).
When Buyer A has 300 billion in their virtual pocket... They deem item X worth tossing out whatever percentage of Inf they have.
There are plenty of other Buyers with similar amounts of Inf...
And the game is played, pushed and (I suppose) controlled by those with the bigger amounts who are willing to throw it around.
I'm not offering any moral judgment on any of this, haha.
It is what it is.
As with anything... there are more details and exceptions and whatnot... But I think that's the biggest factor.
I don't think the sellers raise the prices in this market.
I love that the lowest selling price gets the top bid.
The mechanisms are in there to help keep things down.
However, the buyers have a major burning to part with huge amounts.
The items they want are hard enough to obtain that they deem it worthy to pay high amounts for them.
Even if you list for very low... You'll get a ton for it.
The Buyers are raising the prices.
I could be wrong. That's just the way I figure it.
Just thought I'd offer my completely inexperienced and somewhat uninterested opinions in here (Not even sure why... Guess I thought this was too ugly and was hoping maybe a bit of peace could come. Just take a step back. Realize that we can all be wrong sometimes. Smile. Now fix the real world and all our problems please, thank you very much).
-
For those of us with ATI cards...
Yes... At least, it would seem so to us
*a violinist strides in playing a sad song* -
Sometimes "and more" does hide a few big things that they enjoy blasting us with as the release gets closer...
Some possibilities include:
Electric Controller and/or further Power Proliferation!
Further Power Customization (I'd say not likely as it seems like it would require too many developers for too much time/work right now... but maybe just maybe [I'm looking at you power pools]). And, I know they did say this was not likely until after Going Rogue.. but-hey-it-is-still-possible-it-could-get-done-sooner!
The quick change characters without relogging
Big Red Ball
Some bug fixes, minor tweaks and alterations
Sharks in the water
Just a few somewhat realistic possibilities (Some of them anyways)
