Ask him to for a very high quality, stable server farm... just in case!

Quote:Not many people play City of Heroes so it being closed down isn't as big a deal as people are making it, as I read it.
It seems to me that it is about people's selfishness.
The guy was not only bent out of shape about what he liked being taken away, but he was claiming it was an injustice for society... but then when he learned that it was something else, that other people are concerned about, he didn't care one bit any more.
That seemed pretty clear to me, but... *shrugs* -
Quote:Awesome! Glad to help and glad you got it fixed!Your advice led me to solve the problem--thanks!
I searched on "0 1 PARTSNAME" and found four instances in the file of "0 1 COSTUME" text blocks. So, I copied and pasted Starbolt's costume data to replace Pro-tector's in all four places. I ran the edited demo, and--voila--it worked as intended!
Cool! Thanks to everyone who replied for the help. -
Quote:I'd start off by searching for (with the spaces) " 1 PARTSNAME" (you can use EDIT-->Find in notepad).Could there be text further down the file, after character definition, where Starbolt gets changed back to Pro-tector? If yes, what text do I need to look for?
Or " o 1 COSTUME"
And/or try searching for one of the costume pieces that the original character uses (that the new character doesn't). Such as "Tight !Hips_V_Vanguard_01 !Hips_V_Pattern_Razor_01 000000aa 00000000"
Basically, you want to look and see where, in all of the text, it is forcing the costume to be changed.
If you can, pasting the entire demo would be best (not sure if there are character limits to these posts though). If you could send it or host it or something. That way someone can look at it and see.
That is, if you don't find it.
Really, if the original character was 01, then everything that happened throughout should reference 01. And since you changed the replacement character to 01, it should work. So, there has to be somewhere in there that is swapping him out again, for some reason.
The 01 PARTSNAME search should yield some results. I hope! -
Another nice one, Angelus!
I really liked the Shields!! -
Quote:Hrm... that is rather odd.Thank you for the feedback and suggestion. I searched the demo file but did not find my character's name.
Remains a mystery to me.
Okay, instead of just looking for the name of your character, check and see if the replacement character is re-spawned or has its costume changed at all.
It's possible that the costume change, for whatever reason, occurs, but is under the replacement player's name/character ID.
That's all I can think of off hand.
Also, that's a cool idea for you to do for your friend! -

Quote:Hahaha... You know, after I posted that I suddenly realized that each part was likely labeled as such...Yep, "only" five episodes.
(The 1 of 5 on the loading screens wasn't a giveaway?)
So, I have to out myself as someone who has not yet played any of SA2!
Honestly, I kind of enjoy getting them all and playing them as quickly as I feel like, instead of waiting...
Yes, I am a comic trade paperback kinda guy!
(That's actually why I was so pleased to just learn that 5 was the finale and so we would be getting the whole thing!) -
Quote:Oh, is this SA only 5 parts? I don't mean that "only" in a disappointed/derogatory sense, hehe, I just didn't realize that 5 was intended to be the finale. That's cool, if so!Just as a general heads up as I don't think the info has really been put out properly.
The latest signature story arc has gone live. Apparently parts 4 and 5 are in the game but are just on timers, so episode 4 went live not too long ago and episode 5 will go live sometime around the end of next month.
it's not much, but still nice that we'll get the wrap up of this story before the end.
For the curious, the contact is James Harvan, both in Atlas and Sharkhead Isle but it's showing up in the SSA Contact list now too. Oh and it's still VIP only, so, sorry to the folks that aren't locked in as that. -
Haha!! That's awesome!
Congratulations and Happy Birthday!!
Also... All your cookies are belong to us. -
Excellent idea, Voodoo, and truly remarkable resourcefulness in executing it!!
Way to go, VG!
*bows with respect* -
Quote:Nooooo worries at all! Thank you though!Heh, speaking of which, sorry about the electric aspect of that. I saw electric armor in the costume code, and figured you used it as an aura on the character, but for some reason it didn't want to trigger in the demo.
He doesn't always have it on anyway. I just figured I'd include it if you wanted to or not.
Just for Demo Editing learning/troubleshooting purposes: It's possible the FX wasn't designated to the number he was given, perhaps?
It's funny, my first demo edit project was a crash course of my own, where I studied it, learned what I could and created a video within 10 days. It was just for a role-playing story arc I was part of with a group of friends (sort of a cut scene involving two of my characters), so it wasn't an entirely finished/polished product. And I've yet to finish/polish it up for true public consumption since...
(I'm a babbling machine today...)
The point of that was mostly to say... I know how crazy and tough that is and you really did a fantastic job!
Quote:I had to take several emotional breaks to keep from getting overwhelmed. That was an amazing video thank you.
Ugh, this game is my heart. I haven't been this moved about a game ending since way back in the 90's...when I first beat Chrono Trigger back in the day.
Also the typing at the end end made me hit the windows button by accident! I thought for s split second that someone sent me a message in game for a second! I'm so embarrassed lol.
Not to build false expectations at all, but did you see the vague reports from the dinner the other night?
It's just nice to know that it's not just us fans trying to win the game back. Whether or not we're all successful... we'll see... But I'm still not believing that it's done, that's for sure. It ain't over 'till it's over.

I didn't get around to commenting after seeing the initial rough sketches...
Fantastic job... Tim? (Heehee).
Seriously, you captured something great there and it is definitely a wonderful vehicle for telling the story. I really feel like this is a great video to pass on to others.
In case my words aren't doing justice to my intentions here... FRIGGIN' AWESOME, MAN!!!!!!
And... notice how the Electric-Knight is clearly the best dancer of the bunch during the credits? Huh? Huh? -
-
Congratulations!
And a fantastic post.
@Cylar and I have been together for 14 years. Gaming through the real end of Star Wars Galaxies (we left shortly after the NGE) and here pretty much ever since.
Not happy about losing this game at all. Funny enough, we do a lot together, but we often play separately (we do play together as well, of course).
She's holding out hope and pitching in with the efforts, but she rarely ever comes to the forums (because I tell her all really terrible stories about all of you! You know... the truth!).

Quote:Hmm... Just a quick (somewhat broad) possibility from me:...
By the way, any ideas for a celebratory video as I am about to hit 1 million views?
Instead of reporting news for this one, perhaps pick something (new or old) that you really find exciting or interesting and just want to share, show and/or talk about. Even if it is an old feature in CoH or an old video game you always loved... or anything, really (maybe your favorite movie or something).
Another thought, somewhat similar, is possibly talking about some of the fan art or videos or something that players have made (if one or more have really impressed you to the point that you'd like to talk about it).
Quote:Oh... haha, yeah I know - I didn't take it as such. I spend a good chunk of my day on YT and watch very little television in comparison.
As for me, yeah I just do what interests me most of the time and wish I could be partnered like they all seem to be - but through another company - not YT itself.
And, yeah, I honestly don't watch tv much, if at all. The tv is my movie box, really, hehe. That and old sitcoms here and there.
Quote:As far as TV goes, I'm mostly into Hell on Wheels, Alphas, Franklin & Bash, and then you've got occasional Avengers/Young Justice - kinda disappointed how they handled Green Lantern The Animated Series.
Funny you mention Franklin & Bash though, because I only somewhat recently decided that Mark-Paul Gosselaar very well might be a good actor to play my Electric-Knight, hehe. I've caught a few episodes of that show and was surprised to enjoy it here and there. I thought it had a better quality of humor and irreverence than I expected, at least.
Still, honestly, there's not even one current show that I actually watch... huh. -
And I didn't mean it as a dig against her when I said I'd never heard of her.
Hehe, I wouldn't be able to name a single video game reviewer or YT correspondent... Other than JayboH, of course!
I just included it to represent my own situation coming into it blindly, as it were.
EDIT: *Energyone, of course... haha, I guess I failed entirely! -
Hrm... yeah... that wasn't very accurate at all, heh.
Not a lot of actual research went into that, I guess.
Never heard of her before. Won't be going back, I guess. Although, fans of hers should absolutely let her know that she got some bad information there. Maybe she thought she was doing good by us just to report it? But yeah, that's not how news is supposed to work, hehe. It is, however, how most of it goes. -
Hmmm... perhaps a CSR rally is in order!
We can get the whole rally stuck in the geometry or something, HAHA!
I'm serious though. Every interaction I had was friendly and we've shared spaces with 'em for many years now.
CSRally? -
Praise the Loyd!!
As UberGuy said, that is the only name I recall from thew few CS interactions I've had (I think just the ol' getting my and my wife's vet rewards up to date thing... really, never had much need for customer service, but they were always helpful and pretty quick about it the few times I did... and, again, Loyd is the name that sticks out). -
I mean this with all friendliness and community spirit...
This is what I (and others) have been talking about when we've been doing our best to steer things positive and ask others to TRY and drop so much negativity.
I don't mean that in an "I told ya so" fashion (as I completely understand how a snippet of insider encouragement makes a huge difference). All I really mean by this is... RIGHT ON.
Positive thoughts and positive actions. In the end, we can only be satisfied with our efforts and how we went about it.
SAVECOH! -
Quote:Oh, absolutely, the difference between text and talking with inflection and body language and all is enormous... Absolutely agreed. And, it is true, one tiny portion within a collection of text can often outweigh the rest of it, in some reader's minds, as opposed to if it was just included in regular conversation.Nah I think you just speak your own mind and what's on it and what you see. Nothing wrong with that in my view.
I would love to just agree to disagree and get it done and have some fun.
And I think this is why I prefer face to face talk. When online, there is too much guessing. one negative makes the whole thing seem overly negative, even though if spoken face to face, it would only seem like, "Hm ok, this guy didnt have a good time." Here its "ZOMG!!! YOU TROLLL!!!" even with the same words.
That works in all directions too. One positive remark and people can label you a "blinded fool" and such.
I once mentioned one instance of killing someone and people accuse me of being a murderer... *sigh*Shhhhh...

Nice to see the replies from everybody!
I had a focused intention when starting the original post, but I may have gotten a bit swept away upon the soapbox!
The thing I really want to convey is just that the current sombre, empty server atmospheres that most are experiencing may not be quite so bad in a little while.
A large number of people have gone on to try out other games right now (completely understandable, given the lousy news we had dumped on us), but, the thing is, that many of them have been here a long time and many of them were here for good reasons. So often, we may take a month or two long break, but we come running back for the goodness that is CoH.
And, while this is certainly a different situation, I suspect that during this three month period, we will see people who were enjoying some other game come back and say, "Yeah, it was fun for a few weeks, but then it lost me and... here I am again...".
That and just, as I said, do keep your eyes and ears out for news and for any really important events.
If we could manage to do another showing like we did for the first Unity Rally, that would be impressive.
Regardless, I absolutely am not advocating to force yourself to log on these days. We play games for fun. Often times, with the limited amount of free time that we have in a day. So, Sam, you are completely right to not want to log on and be bummed out. And I don't want you to.
I took a very brief break (from the forums and the game) just this past weekend and that, alone, did me good.
So: 1) Population might rise up a bit before November comes around and 2) Please do be ready, on call, just in case.
Most importantly... if CoH is saved, I'd hate to see people not realize it, hah!
