Quote:They've been CGIing stunts for almost decades now. I'd agree it's probably far easier to "fake a stunt than it is to fake a performance". But they've been making steady improvements to the stunt side of things for years. To believe that they'll never master the "performance" side of things is a bit naive at best.
*wretches up the sound* GOLLUM... GOLLUM *coughs*

Quote:Yeah, no shocker there. It's not happening, sez Lucas through his spokesperson "Update: But it isn’t true! “The “I cast dead people” scenario that’s making the rounds on the web is not true, according to Lucasfilm spokesman Josh Kushins. “This rumor is completely false,” he told Wired.com in an e-mail Monday.”
source
However...
Quote:Obviously there's a lot of room to debate whether the "resurrection" of long dead actors in this way is good, bad or otherwise.
But here is something to consider: With advances in CGI happening all the time the likeihood that someone, somewhere will be doing this in the future is almost guaranteed. Frankly I'd rather have a person like Lucas with the backing of his industry-leading talent and technology spearheading this so that the quality of it can be as good as possible. If it's going to happen it might as well be really well done. *shrugs*Quote:My point was that people like you or I complaining about it is not going to stop it. I'm resigned that it's going to happen regardless.
If Lucas wants to jump in and try to at least make it look better than what other lesser people are going to come up with then that's better than nothing. If graves are going to be robbed then at least someone of the caliber of Lucas will be doing some of the robbing. I'd rather him do it than the folks over at SyFy for instance...
Agreed, agreed and agreed... (And to the last comment... If someone is going to rob the graves, let it be Indiana Jones, right?).
Lastly...
If it were true and he was indeed buying the rights to such things... Wouldn't it just be a rather smart business move?
Not a bad investment.
Especially since ILM is the place to go for the best in the business... That right there is not a bad business move, if he were to make it (if that is even possible... can you buy the rights to deceased actors' likenesses?).
Long before this stuff was possible to do halfway decently... I wondered if we would eventually see such things as a brand new Bruce Lee movie.
There is some merit to it.
People can call it "grave robbing", but it is really no different than making an animated film of a legend or some such thing.
It is strange what happens when the lines are blurred by realistic quality!
Second Lastly...
The performance is always the key. Zero question. However, that does not mean that the potential for brilliant performances and/or imitations are not there.
Just with all things... Greatness can be great... everything else generally sucks.
What we need are: the best voice and character mimics/imitationists (whatever title they want to use), the best animators... Oh, the right scripts, direction, etc, etc...
Then we can have endless Cannonball Run sequels and they will never age!! -
Quote:Good, hehe. I just thought it was worth making sure, in the slight off-chance that you were a poster who did not realize.Of course. And I have the shard that you get from completing the arc, along with the Alpha slot. That's still my only shard.
No offense intended! -
Quote:My apologies for asking a "Is the power cord plugged in?" type question, but it is only to make absolutely certain in an attempt to help (if the answer were no), so...Yes, all enemies are at least level 50. I'm currently doing Unai Kemen's arc. Lots of nice big outdoor maps.
Note: I'm not actually in any kind of hurry to get the shards. I was just pointing out that collecting shards doesn't seem to be very fast from my perspective.
Did you complete Mender Ramiel's arc in order to unlock the Alpha Slot?
Regardless, I can absolutely see how one could go by and not get a shard drop for quite a while.
I haven't done that much, but a full team ITF run did net me 8 shard drops and my wife got 10 on that same run (neither numbers including the final reward).
And yeah... no need to rush. Just play and it'll happen. -
Quote:Truth!A little understanding goes a long way. This is not, 'we want to give out these codes, and cannot find a better way'. This is 'we want more traffic, and we have these codes'. So they get people to subscribe to a twitter feed, or like a facebook page, or refresh the forums... all of which increases their stature.
This was not about giving you a code. So don't complain that it's a poor way to gift. It was about bringing all the players to the yard. So appreciate that it's a great way to do that. Work with it, or don't.
+1 to codes pack
+1 to random game logon 'door prize'
And how smart would it be to do both?
While I totally respect suggesting other ways of obtaining these costumes... insulting this method is missing the point, as ThornRune has spelled out.
The method is the reason they're doing it at all.
And again... there'll be other ways to get these codes eventually. So, don't completely overlook that.
Am I fan of refresh wars and gimmicks to get traffic on other sites?
Nope, not in the slightest.
Will I take part?
Not bloody likely!
Do I have a problem with them doing this?
Nope!
I'm sensing a need for a "relax, Francis"...

On one hand if Im not insulted about the incarnate system then Im not a skilled player...then that means the OP called me unskilled...then Im insulted, now Im right back to being skilled because Im insulted.

You need to improve your forums skills in order to figure out if you are skilled or not!! -
While these contests may not be for me (Or many others that have posted thus far), they must appeal to some... As the codes always go super quickly, hehe.
I've never won a single one of these types of things (rarely even try), but I have zero complaints about them running them.
AND... I've happened to win the costume codes through other contests and such.
So, I think that it should be recognized that they do provide multiple ways of getting these things.
Lastly... I've always wanted a Coralax costume! Nice choice!
I'll get it...
EVENTUALLY!!! -
It feels pretty cool so far!
I'm not one to be into doing things just for the carrots, but I really love the fact that the shards drop separate from all other rewards and no matter what you're doing, so long as it is level 50+ (I do have to wonder if eventually they can add it to the AE system as well... however I am completely in favor of sitting back on that and waiting and seeing if it is doable without making it a get incarnate quick scheme and never ever becoming that).
The one thing that I love about people being a little more focused on certain characters is... It is generally a good thing when the community around you is based on consistently present characters. Even if someone only plays once a week... When it is the same character each time you play with them... it adds a bit to the fun, especially for role-players.
Not that I don't delve in playing many alts... I do... But I love trying to stick with mains much more than the others.
So, that is a nice benefit, in my opinion. And not to force people to play that way... but to give them reasons that make it fun for them to play those same characters.
One thing I am not entirely certain that I like (And not entirely certain that I don't like) is how the components are assigned to particular TFs/tasks.
It really doesn't matter, as the shards come from practically anything and everything, and making the components is a very simple task.
However, the aspect of guiding players to do particular TFs (that really, lore-wise, aren't related to the incarnate system) just rubs me the wrong way a tiny bit.
I'm not sure that will come into play as a real negative in any meaningful regard... but I'm eye-ing that just a bit to see if it does end up creating a situation that bothers me a little in some way that I have not yet realized.
Honestly, I don't see how... as any of those TFs/Raids will most likely net you enough to make whatever component you wish to have.
Selecting Reward Merits is still a good option, hehehe.
So far, I am liking the feel of it and the results on the community (And how, even though most [including me, a little bot] are making mad dashes to do and accomplish all of this, the whole thing really doesn't need to be a focused effort on the players' parts... The rewards can just come along the way).
There is still a lot of time to observe and see how things shape up, but it looks good thus far! -
I couldn't disagree more!
Your post is provably false, but I haven't the time nor the inclination to point it all out.

Quote:My experience differs, especially with creative endeavors.I've seen way too many great products produced by vile people to buy this.
If I was thinking about working for some company or other it'd be relevant, but as a customer?
Zero impact on my experience.
I mean, absolutely, they can be the scum of the earth ("vile people", as you put it), but when there's an energetic atmosphere of genuine enthusiasm for the work, the product and the consumers... businesses can flourish in ways that stale uncaring companies cannot (it generally depends on the type of business).
Now, of course, enthusiasm can come in other forms... However, when a company cares about and enjoys their consumers (and it shows), there is a mutual feedback of positivity that flows and can improve both the product and the community/buzz surrounding the product. Especially so in the entertainment business, which this is.
That positivity works both ways.
And one of the ways that CoH has managed to encourage this positivity has been through their fun-loving and open involvement with the community. If that were nonexistent, even you may notice the results in the game itself, eventually.
For the record... I'm not saying nor thinking that CoH is moving away from this type of behavior/mindset.
I'm just a fan of businesses that maintain that human element.
The regurgitated line, "Nothing personal, it's just business" is a thing of corporate deception that couldn't be anything farther from the truth. It doesn't get much more personal than business. -
Haha, great post, Ironik! I 'member dat!
Quote:While I share much of the thoughts and approach that you express here, there is one little thing about that that I think is worth mentioning...I seem to be one of the few who isn't invested in 'the devs' as a social entity.
I mean it's nice if they're cool and they pop in here every so often, but I'm here for the game, not the personalities running the show.
It's been my experience in the 'real world' that the personalities of the people who run enterprises has almost nothing to do with how well the enterprise functions. It's a nice *bonus* if they're wonderful people, friendly and outgoing and all that, but I pay for services because the services themselves are high quality, not because I want the purveyors to drop by my house for dinner.
As long as we keep getting high quality animations in this game it's irrelevant to me who does them.
While, indeed, the friendly/outgoing nature (or lack thereof) of the people working on said product does not matter one bit...
I do believe that the product of a group can (and usually does) reflect the atmosphere and general chemistry of that group.
And the end results often reflect the general attitudes of those from the top and on down.
So, I think it generally does matter who they are. Just not in terms of the social standards you spoke of (or some others seem to hold to).
While I certainly don't believe in holding the celebrity aspect dear, the aspect of a nice, friendly, family-type atmosphere between devs and customers is one that I think has reflected well both upon the community and with the game itself.
This game has always particularly felt like it was different - partially due to it being a bit more home-grown and down to earth (a sense of the creators being 'one of us').
Now, that absolutely does not need to be manifested in them being our buddies (and/or jovial antagonists) and posting frequently on the forums...
But the nature of this team and the game's overall difference (compared to other mmorpgs) seemed to be well represented by their frequent involvement here.
In general response to a lot of what you see said about all this...
I have no actual idea, but I still don't hold to the idea that he was canned or anything. I'd find it more likely that he chose to move on or some such (at worst, his tenure may have made holding his salary too much for the overall budget)... with zero bad vibes or personal reasons to do with any of it.
Again, I don't have any inside info (and if I did, I wouldn't share it anyway), but it always seems silly to me how people will jump to negativity when changes come around. -

And finally, when I have been faced with a true embarrasment of riches, I have found that very carefully managing my IO slotting and frankeslotting, I can generally get nearly the same bonuses from 5 slots as I did from 6 before, even though I may give up a small set bonus here and there.
So careful work with Mids and IO sets may give you some of the extra slots.
I've finally been doing that very thing.
At least four of my powers could have better stats with 5 frankenslotted setups than they have with 6 standard IOs.
(I've long been playing with just standard IOs)
So, that is at least four slots I've potentially opened up to place elsewhere.
Of course, already optimal builds may not find any such luck, hehe. -
Quote:Yeah, you didn't come off as complaining to me (not that complaining is always a bad thing anyways). I thought you represented things well.I wasn't attempted to complain, but I can see how it read this way. More than anything, I was kind of hit with the realization that I hadn't considered before. I was thinking, "great! Inherent fitness means I can grab a couple of more powers" Then I realized that most powers I would get wouldn't have slots, so I was looking for input.
The thing is, there's a bit of history to this and some people's reaction to this topic may be tainted form that.
Ever since inherent fitness was announced, there have been some rather demonstrative complaints about getting additional powers without additional place-able slots.
I think talking about it reasonably is a good thing though.
And I'm pretty sure the majority of people around here will be civil. I just figured I'd mention that you may get some bigger reactions due to the other "discussions" that have taken place about this in the past.
Honestly, I am most curious about how this change plays out for a completely new player (or one who never experienced making builds pre-I19).
As things were, while we all might occasionally wish we had an extra slot here or there... it never seemed to be an actual issue that would come up as a complaint (I'll only speak for Non-Kheldians, hehe). In other words, it seemed well balanced.
I am curious if the amount of slots per powers, over the course of a few years, would/will prove out to be just as acceptable or if it will cause a more common thought that there should be more.
For me, that's one of those things I really can't predict... but I'd love to see it play out.
Of course, with all the veterans around, it may not be possible to get a completely accurate answer to the hypothetical "If it had always been this way...".
Certainly, the majority are agreeable with the current ratio.
Time will tell if that holds true.
I've felt all along that the changes were fine, but I could see changing something. Maybe, instead of giving more slots, increasing some of the fitness powers base stats. Even that though, has been debated and I fall on the side of not doing that.
In the end... whatever they decide... I'm cool with.
I won't turn away more slots, if they ever wanted to give them, hehehe.
I just don't think they want to add more slots and run the risk of pushing potential builds too far over the top.
And, as has been mentioned, it's an interesting game of some tough choices (for some builds). -
Huh... I like this idea a lot.
I'm not sure if this was meant more for a specific server, or if you're on the EU servers...
But... I'm on Virtue of the US client and the idea of a LFG global channel for IC missions/TFs is an idea that I love.
While we have OOC RP global channels (I never see them being used)... I wonder if a more specified one like this may work out well. Hmmm...
We have some great LFG and TF global channels for Virtue and the counter to this would be to include ((LF IC Team/TFs)) and so on... But still, I wonder if a specified channel would see more use for its designed purpose than these other options...

I think my fastest ITF was 1:20ish... hahaha

Are you sure you joined those channels and have them working in a chat tab you can see? -
Dear "skilled" playErs,
-
Excellent advice from Midnight Panther, but also definitely join the Virtue LFG Alpha and Virtue TFs 2010. You will be happy you did!
Also, try not to focus so much on the one reply you took negatively. Focus on the positive ones.
I think Everstryke thought he was being motivational. I can understand how you didn't like the wording and possible tone.
Like I said, the teams are out there. These answers should get you into a bunch and hopefully you'll make new friends and SGs/alliances and whathaveyou and you'll be having the fun you want to have! -
The above all answered perfectly.
To directly answer the question in the subject title... No, they did not nerf set bonuses!!!
By the way, welcome to the game!
Whether this means anything to you or not... I've been here a few years and don't use IO sets with bonuses and do absolutely wonderfully playing this game.
While it is all very cool to get involved in that aspect if you enjoy it, you absolutely do not have to at all.
One of the beauties of this game: It is there if that interests you... You can successfully do any content in the game without it. -
Quote:This...My suggestion to you and others is put a bid in and wait, prices will come down it's a matter of time.

Just a suggestion

Quote:Seriously, this, this this....
And if you haven't already, see if you can get into the global channels; Virtue LFG Alpha, Virtue TFs, Virtue TFs 2010 and VirtueUnited.
...
Especially Virtue LFG Alpha and Virtue TFs 2010 (I think the other Virtue TFs is closed right now?).
I would say that, if you are having problems finding teams on Virtue, it is entirely due to not taking the best steps. And that is in no way an insult! That's why you posted and, hopefully, the result will be getting advice that leads you to having fun!
I've seen a ton of activity on the TFs channel especially.
Also, the level 30s can be a tricky level range to find teams...
You have several zones that can all seem uninhabited.
I think that level range, especially, requires some broader communication methods than other levels.
Also, check out the SG listings up at the top of this forum.
Best way to find an SG that matches your wants/style is to look them up (then play with them and see, of course. hehe).
Best of luck! -
I hadn't even realized he'd been born yet!!

Quote:See, this, I think anyone can understand.... I've done that a million times now though, and have no compunctions about hitting Fast Forward.
However, the question is... when that fast forward button is available to everyone, what is fast enough/too fast?
It's a question that requires looking at it from beyond just simply one self and the game as a whole.
Is it a bad thing if new and old players alike fast forward through it just as often as others play through it?
If a development team actually chose to stick with such a fast forwarding system, the drop rewards, invention system and market may have to be altered to accommodate such a thing.
The way things are now, AE fast forwarding can apparently jack things up a little in those regards.
That's just one element that affects other players.
What about new players learning this fast forward means of progression and seeing and judging the game from that outlook?
How fast is too fast for the good of the entire game? For the good of interesting players?
Are sewer runs too fast, too slow, just right?
Red-side might could use some sort of sewer run system.
I'm not saying I am for or against any of these things.
Just throwing in some thoughts. -
