  1. Hi there and welcome back!

The server population, as a whole, has vastly differing styles and methods (As you probably know).

Some great suggestions here already, so I'll try and be brief (brief for me, at least).

The only real staple that is held to across just about all RPers here seems to be the double brackets for OOC (I use a handy bind that just puts ((OOC)): in front of my message when I press an assigned key instead of ENTER).

I really don't know where the people are coming from with the whole asterisks not being good for emoting thing.
Myself and many of the wonderful RPers I have had the pleasure to play with use both options (from sentence to sentence) without any issues.
The use of asterisks has its place and benefits here and there.

The only reason I bring this up is because my experience RPing in this game with others counters this one suggestion that's been mentioned more than once already in this thread and I want you to realize that this is not some universally accepted rule.
It may just be some agenda by one segment of playstyle *shrugs*. No idea... don't really care, hehe.
All I know is that it is not a problem where I have played nor with the people I have played with.

As for finding an SG, definitely search through existing SGs on the forums and ask around (there should be a thread at the top of this forum for SGs).

I'd say the RPing community is greatly segmented and the bulk of it does seem to be broken into SGs and coalitions.
However, as has been said, there are a great amount of us out and about teaming, fighting interacting spontaneously with everyone and anyone.
There are probably more non-Rpers doing the same though... so, you can spend a lot of time in game and question whether there is any RPing sometimes (when you're alone).

While there are tons of excellent SGs out there that may match your liking, you might want to check out the group I am involved with, The Paragon Universe.
The group can cover a wild divergence of concepts while also cater to smaller and more specific ones. It's a house of a lot of versatility with welcoming players looking for fun through role-playing.

Again, I am sure there are others out there as well and I have no idea what you're looking for, yourself!

    Best of luck!

    Excellent suggestion!
That is the easiest and most effective method.
However, opening up other files and editing them as such is indeed too "tricky" for some.
Some people don't want to get involved with anything that isn't done through the game's interface.
Of course, as someone comfortable with demo editing straight in notepad, I'm not saying that opening the costume files and swapping numbers is difficult in the slightest, hehe.

Anyway, that is indeed the most concise and quickest way to do it.

An astonishing trait (beyond the forums and all) indeed!

I've come to believe in this...

    Humans are insane.
One of the largest contributors to this mental state is their belief in sanity.

As a total aside to the topic of this thread...

It can be funny when you examine the actions taking place in some panel's illustrations.

My first thought was... Is this Thundra's devastating double-breast-wallop special maneuver?

Then I was thinking that she and Hulk were doing a chest bump celebration when their basketball team scored.

However, I think what really is going on needs some slow, overly romantic music to the slow motion action of Thundra and Hulk running towards their loving embrace!
  5. I should also mention that I haven't seen it.
And it's really not much of a concern.
Two main reasons... We choose who we associate with and how we act, react and stick to what we believe in and enjoy influences everything around us (don't be a part of the problem).
And it is not like IO builds only ever became a mainstay or problem or the norm in this game.
I've never been kicked or turned away because of my build or anything... And I generally play an Elec/Elec Blaster with nothing but Standard IOs.

  6. It's worth pointing out that the point of Samuel's hack jobs were to circumvent the fact that the game's female character model couldn't be adjusted to well simulate a hulking super woman... But the use of texture inferred a more muscular look that reaches a pleasing compromise for some who desire such options.

Those pictures are not perfect representations of what is desired... they are embodiments of the feasible possibility within the limits of the game. And our Art Lead for the game even took notice and may be up to something about it (that would look better than Sam's simple [albeit, pretty cool] hack job).
  7. Yeah, the scales are indeed saved as part of the costume file.

Trying to load costumes onto other scaled characters or scales onto other costumes... it gets tricky.

I know there's a reset scales button, however I can't remember if it resets all scales now or not. At one point, it was only resetting... Head scales, I think (or maybe it was body scales...).

Height is also saved and loaded!

    Whatcha tryin' to do, Tech?
  8. This just in...
    Some people are jerks!

    News at eleven!
  9. Apparently the tentacles are not from Hami... It's the deja vu monster!

It's effects are felt most on the forums.

    Happy Holidays!

    Thanks Posi!
Hope all is well over there!
And yes, so far everyone I know and have seen in-game is enjoying the Incarnate system!
I know my wife and I have been!
It's great to see it in game after seeing you glow and snicker and laugh giddily while you couldn't actually tell us anything at the Boston M&G, haha.

I'd say you've managed to hit the mark pretty well in keeping it ungrindy, yet something you need to earn, yet fun, yet something that has new content and also will make us do existing content and appeals to a wide playstyle.
Then again, I haven't been soloing for it too much. I get the feeling some may throw things at me for my previous comments about it being ungrindy... And they'll revoke my soloist membership card (but what sort of soloist wants to be a member anyway?).
I just enjoy the occasional Task Force and this has given me greater motivation to do them. It has been FUN!
Thanks, Posi and thanks Team for another year of big time FUN!

I am very curious about the future additions to the system (and beyond)... ^ ^

P.S. Don't forget about Pool and Epic Power Customizations...
  12. Oh... Double post just to add an aside...

The idea that VEATs, HEATs and possibly Patron Pools would not be customizable mostly stems from a somewhat casual list, that Back Alley Brawler (I believe) shared with the community, of the reasons why the developers might not include customization for those powers initially or ever.
Basically the list of reasons that the developers had on the table after discussions and work and such.
He stated it was in no way a definitive answer to anything... just simply the thoughts tossed around.
One of the reasons was that they might want to keep the lore-specific powers as they are.
There was no firm decision nor stance on that. It was just one of those things that he was saying could lead to it never happening.

Not sure this vague aside really helps anything, but I thought I'd mention where that concept of them not wanting to allow customization of lore-specific powers comes from.

It's just important to note that they've never stated that they are taking this stance. They just kindly raised it as a consideration within the team.

For now, these powers just simply require more work (mostly due to UI) and they've had to wait.
That's all there is to it thus far.
  13. This, along with General Pool and HEAT Powers Customization has been covered a bit more in detail in the past.

I don't have the links to some of the info that was passed on, back when Power Customization was first coming, but the main reason they stopped at the Primary and Secondary powers was because they need to design the User Interface for such customization.
Then they need to code and create that User Interface.
Plus, there is a lot of work to do to each and every power in order to make them customizable (I am not sure if they started going into those files to make them customizable while doing all of the others or not... But it's just part of the process and will be done when they focus on it).

The focusing on it thing is the big sticking point now.
Many of us were hoping they'd get to it during or soon after Issue 16 (When the initial wave was implemented).
Instead, Going Rogue became the focus and they said it'd have to wait.
More recently, they talked about how it was "on their radar", but well down on the list.
Many of us have been trying to suggest for them to bump it up on that list and make it somewhat of a priority.

I've gotten a good amount of responses and opinions in this thread.

Feel free to offer your thoughts, if you wish!

Also, so far, if a powerset uses a weapon and has weapon customization, they do not get any other form of customization.
Whether or not they can and/or will overcome that, I am not sure about at all.
I'm not sure if that would interfere with VEATs.
VEATs are a bit unique, with their alternate paths. So, I expect that they will take a little (or possibly a lot) more work.

Power Pools and Epic Pools will likely be next... but I don't say that with much knowledge or authority whatsoever, hehe.
  14. Awesome!
Yeah, I think my mind has quietly figured that our Hami is sort of a larval form, but it could just be different.
If it is an early, less-evolved form... I want to find a way to make him evolve into something like the Praetorian version!
    (And train him to D.C.)

Either way, I've never gotten anywhere near that number of merits for doing anything in the RWZ. I'd probably have to add the V-merits earned across all my characters who've been through the RWZ content to get more than 1,000. I did a lot RWZ grinding with my Brute in order to buy a few costume pieces I wanted, so he's probably responsible for half the V-merits I've earned. I never saw anything in the triple digits except after days and days of missions and arcs.
I'm pretty sure 700-1,000 is a high exaggeration.
If my memory serves me correctly... I'd say you can bank on getting 150-350 or so on one Mother Ship Raid.

People often do two or three in a row. Then you're likely to reach around those numbers.

And that is still a great amount.
Yes, the discrepancy between earning VG merits any other way is crazy (not saying it needs to be changed. It's just a huge difference).

I just don't recall ever pulling in 700 (not even 500) on one single mother ship run.

As I said though... 200 is a nice chunk for one run.
    Maybe my estimate is low.
I think 500 might be possible on one run, but honestly, I haven't looked to see how many I've gotten in a long while (back when I was working on specific things). Now I just get VG merits and don't even check, hehe.

If I am wrong, I apologize, but the 700 number doesn't sound right.
  18. Well, it makes me sad to see you go, Castle!

My focus generally tends to be more about feel, fun and art and stuff, but I always found myself really enjoying your insights and I especially appreciated your candor in discussing the game. Your participation in completely unrelated topics just meant you were one of us, even more-so.

More importantly, I immensely enjoy the game and the work that you've done.
I love this game and your part in that is no small thing.
    Thank you!!

Best of luck in your next venture.

That has zero bearing as to it being "the crux" of the problem (especially when people of all genders and sizes have expressed the same thoughts about the slider minimum) nor does it have a single thing to do with the reply to ChaosExMachina.

With all due respect, your "devil's advocate" reply really didn't amount to much other than to perpetuate a misinformed stance.

  22. Bah... On another note... yet again...

Just to point out a bit of why Thaumater's suppositions are entirely inane...

I have several female friends that play who's RL chest sliders are far on the larger side of the scale who absolutely have pointed out how ridiculous the slider discrepancy is in the game, making the exact same point as the OP.

Only very foolish people adhere to a stringent notion that only people on this side of the fence think/feel this way.
Those who publicly share such foolish conjecture tend to breach the category of simple fools and enter much worse territory.
  23. A thought about the placement and the smaller-sized chest detail symbols...

Do these actually form to the 3D model or sit flatly off of the chest?

I'm trying to picture it in my head right now...
And I can only picture them on Jackets and Robes and how they stand out, hovering, away from the body.

I'm thinking that they don't do that on tights and such, but I'm not sure what technique they use and just how malleable they really are.

My thought was that the tech they used to make the symbols fit on the chests wouldn't work over such large contours.

This all was, however, entirely speculation.

    Carry on!
  24. Yeah, Thaumater... You're a class act with an amazing aptitude for personal psychology.

Sarcasm was the only thing I could think of to reply to such comments in those two posts that wouldn't break my standards for being respectful and polite.

Speaking of sarcasm, respect and politeness in the same sentence... Nethergoat... in all seriousness, I agree with what you said on the subject and found your post pretty well stated.

Anyway... That topic will drown out all others brought up (and that is all tied in to the same reason why the sizes were created the way they were, hehe).

The problem with the shoulders is definitely very noticeable.
I think one of the main problems is that the initial design model for such pieces is a look that is more common among traditional female comicbook outfits: Sleek, slender and form-fitting.
Still, I agree completely that the shoudlermapads are too small on females.

And yeah, the chest symbol size... Obviously part of that is because of the chest and they decided to place it above the breasts, rather than distort the symbols/images.
It'd be nice if you could have a choice of either or... Because, to be honest, I've found myself wanting the smaller and higher chest symbols on males sometimes, hehe.

The hair... Female models will get no sympathy for their hair options!!
Hehe, Males have the greater lacking on that front, I think.

Lastly... I appreciate your honesty. Ya don't gotta be bratty though!

    Best of luck!

(Oh, one more thing... I actually have a few female friends that play and make characters with more than all the way left chest sliders and some in very skimpy outfits.
    Just, entirely, for the record.
And yeah... the models don't represent the average player for any gender, that's for sure. So, don't let that bug you too much.)

I think it was noticed... The tier brackets in-game indicate that any/all of the Rares lead to either/both Very Rares.
However, the floating text (if you hover your mouse over the Very Rares on the website) totally back that up (despite the tier brackets not indicating it).

So, the website is relevant as it actually contains that information for us to see.

At this point, it seems safe to say (in so far as it is ever to say things about mmo content) that the graphic design of the website's tier brackets are just slightly off and the game's brackets and the text on the website are accurate.

    (hope that was clear enough)
