Quote:There has been some scarily accurate, as well as wildly inaccurate, predictions in this post.
Nice to see we hit a couple things the players are dreaming about. Sad we can't bring them everything they want.
Duck bills and beaver tails for all!! Woohoo...
Oh... I mean... What Dechs said!!
Hehe, seriously, I'm not surprised some of the things have hit the mark. That's what's great about CoH... Players, Developers, Designers... We're generally on the same page!
You guys are all one of us! As much as it hurts for you to admit that!
Now... when is it coming out?!?! -
Of course, we can make this happen in-game, as it is, to certain extents (I'm a big emote user and different characters generally have different idle stances and such)...
However, It'd be great (this is just complete idealism here) for it to apply to things like jumping, running, walking as well as the sounds for such things.
The mmorpg that I used to play, a long time ago... in a galaxy far far away... (before the dark times of the three letters that I shall not utter)...
That game had /mood commands that altered your idle animations and lasted until you chose another/mood and/or went back to /mood none.
This game also had facial animations, so that added a bit more to it.
A very popular (yet somewhat underground in America) Japanese wrestling video game has had tremendous customization and various animations tied to attitude/personality options. As well as a large voice catalog for specific sounds for each and every move performed.
I've always been a fan of such things and I definitely think CoH is a place that such features would fit.
That being said... I doubt it'd be implemented into the existing game (to any great extent).
A follow-up? I would lobby hard for such levels of customization!
(Still... Not that I'd personally mind the resources put into such things for this game... I just don't think the majority of players would, thus the developers are unlikely to spend the time and money on it) -
Interesting...
About Cat Woman... It just needs to be said...
Pretty amazing heels to fill... Julie Newmar and Michelle Pfeiffer were so delightfully excellent (in my not so humble opinion). (kudos to Eartha Kitt's purring)
As we've seen with previous characters, new takes and all bounds are possible... We'll just have to see how this one goes!
I'm honestly not that familiar with Miss Hathaway... I can't say that I see it offhand, but that is what acting is all about, so I'm certainly not one of those "no way!" types. -

Hahaha... And OUCH!
I've never seen this done before, haha, very nice!

Oh, I forgot something I have wished for in the past...
Gorilla gloves!
Amazing Ape's arms look best when he has his gauntlets on. It would be cool to have that kind of bulk in the hands and forearms with hair/fur and such!

Quote:I hope you're patient. The devs are concentrating on canines, felines, reptiles and birds. It may be a while before they get to the platypus.
Whatchoo talkin' about, RemusShepherd?!
But... if they tackle the ornithorhynchidae in the first pass, they can cover all ornithorhynchidae (since there's only one!).
It's perfectly logical!!
Haha... No, I really would just like an actual duck bill to use, but I am happy with what I have now (The wolf tail surprisingly adds a nice touch, even though it is completely wrong).
Anyway... as with all things regarding the platypus... Expect to be surprised!!
(not entirely serious about anything!) -
I don't know that I expect any of this to be in the booster, but...
I hope for monstrous feet and legs (hairy, furry, whateverry) for normal (non digitrade) legs (tights, etc).
Honestly, I want to see new full body hair/fur options that show no skin and work a bit more for full hair/fur bodies.
I hope for animal heads that we can customize and add details onto.
I would like to see an animal-ish form of ninja run or some such thing.
Pretty standard hopes and desires for animal stuff for CoH.
I'd love to see head details that are separate animal parts: different beaks, muzzles, bills, noses, eyes, hair/feather/fur/manes/spikes...
Oh... and a beaver tail...
And a duck bill.

Woohoo, global costume unlock is a highly popular request.
Very nice!
I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!
Pre-Congratulations on 7 years!
Oh and that chest emblem is really nice, especially combined with the concept behind it. Excellent design and nice to have new options! -
I wish any time someone brought up a personal take on things, people wouldn't just dismiss it altogether.
I'm pretty much in agreement with most that are fine with how it is, but...
I have wondered if it would be okay to bump the duration of those 4 minute shield powers to 5 minutes or 5-8 minutes.
While one extra minute may not seem like a lot, I think it could offer just enough time to subtract a little bit of the borderline tedium some players feel from the 4 minute timers.
Going up to 8 minutes... I'm not so sure.
I don't think the effects of the powers would need to be lowered with such an increase (at least, not for a 5 minute duration).
Any thoughts/reasons why a slight increase would be bad? (not saying it should or shouldn't happen, but I, personally, could see value in it, at a glance) -
Heehee...
Yeah, some quick research points that it may be possible to wear enough of those rings to properly enhance your build...
Maybe?
I didn't search any further... -

Quote:Alright... as per usual, they were all great... But those two really got to me, haha!
* Your kids want to go trick or treating but you won't let them go until you make sure the kids they're going with have the right ATs for survivability.
* Your eight year old son wants to go trick or treating as Batman this year and you punish him by making him wear a blue unitard with "GENERIC 0005461265" on the chest.
And... I got nothing.
I'm a sane individual who occasionally plays a video game.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???
*tries to click on "info" to read about you all* -
Okay, am I the only one that really likes that '44 Studebaker?
And yeah, the 2004 comicbook one in the middle is a nice job, in my opinion.
Very fun lookover (although, way too many awful ones in there... did they really need a new ugly rendition every couple of months? Then again, looking at the designs, I guess so!).
Thanks for sharing this! -
Haha
I do find it somewhat interesting that the state of names is as good as it is.
And yeah, with numbers like that, we might be in trouble.
I seriously do wonder what things might be like if the naming situation were to stay the same (including any possible decline in population) for 3-6 years more.
Without switching away from the unique name system (I've never ever been in favor of the duplicate names system tied to globals, but, in the end, it probably wouldn't bother me as much as I used to think) and without purging names from dormant accounts, how long would it take to reach the point where most any reasonable player (And thus I see the flaw in this question, hehe) would agree that the names have dried up?
As for the state of things right now, I have several character names chosen for characters that I'd like to make one day, but haven't yet. And I have not reserved them with placeholders (I have lost a few names over the years, but, oh well).
So, I believe things are okay.
I just think there is a potential for problems, possibly in the near future, and I don't think the rather short-sighted and selfish gripes of a few potential/hypothetical former customers (possible return costumers) are a risk to the business, compared to doing some reasonable maintenance for my existing customers.
Again... 2+ years away is a long enough time for me to feel very comfortable with opening them to the potential of having to rename characters.
I understand, on that aspect, we all just have our various opinions. -
Quote:Well, of course. The unspoken corollary is that, if they did it and it didn't work, why do it again?
Work, in this case, is defined as increasing profits sufficiently to outweigh opportunity costs.
If we assume all considerations have been made on this subject and that the company has evaluated and acted correctly and as best as possible, there's no need for anyone to suggest anything, really.
That's why I'm really not talking about that. That post of mine you are quoting is not to prove any side of any silly argument or debate and there are elements for and against both sides.
EDIT: Oh, except that the fact is that the pool of names continues to shrink. So, it is an ever changing thing and not something that events of the past necessarily mean much for the present and/or future. -
Well, this has moved into a rather silly discussion...
I'll chime in...
Of course changes need to be evaluated and benefits outweigh negati8ves and all that.
The only things that I found to be a bit off are:
- For general business purposes... the insistence that the status quo is the "sanest" and right way to go.
- Status quo; not making changes; sticking to what is working.
Kinda funny really (since you all have turned the discussion this way). The very nature of this topic is about a pool of names that is constantly losing options. Period. Sure, I have no problems coming up with names I am completely happy with and neither do plenty of people. The fact still remains that the pool of names will constantly shrink. It's not staying the same. If you play out this scenario as it is, eventually there will be a larger issue (It just may take another 6 or more years [just a completely random guess there]).
More so, they haven't stuck to a no purge system. They've run a few. It's something they've done in the past. Then they changed it to a much lesser event, in that they lowered the maximum level of character that would become open to a name purge to level 6.
Thems is changes.
Lastly, if I were in charge of making decisions around here, I'd hire some dancing giraffes (they're rather surprisingly cheaper than you would imagine). -
Yep, I've had the same issue with my far right vertical tray. I always solved it by clicking on the arrows to change which numbered tray it displayed (thinking that was the problem)... apparently, that may have just been clicking on the tab and bringing it in front of the invisible window... I'll try and find out...
-
Haha... I can't believe they hired that dungeon master...
I heard that's why Castle really left (even after he was allowed to reincarnate his character as a herring).
Also... I need to stock up on my quarters for the end game content!!
-
While I certainly understand that conclusion, I think it is based on the unfortunate hyperbolic argument that always accompanies these discussions.
It started with the O.P. citing the extreme difficulties of finding names.
And continues with the responses to that notion.
And a logical conclusion becomes that the issue is a matter of entitlement and brings potential negatives over any benefits.
However, it is much more simple than that.
This game has a unique/character naming system per server and names get tied up on long dormant accounts, some that are so long dormant they never had a global named attached to them. We are all familiar with the large amounts of players who come and go and never return in this industry.
Your logical conclusion against a purge (due to its inherent sense of entitlement issue) is to account for the sense of entitlement of a hypothetical long inactive re-subscriber, who needs to rename one (or more) of their characters (because of their long 2+ years lapse in subscription [and possibly did not heed, see any information of such a thing happening to their account, so as to be prevent or be prepared for such an event]) who then spreads ill words about the game from that vantage point, which then results in negative publicity for the game overall.
I am not convinced that is truly the greatest conclusion.
It could be seen as a simple aspect of desired data for a trivial pastime that can be recycled based on subscription to the product.
