Quote:I'm certainly not arguing against your opinions about raid-style grinding (as mine is probably similar), however...Back when I played WoW (back when the level cap was still only 60), the focus is all about raiding there. You get with 39 other people and lose for months on end. Sometimes you get a new hat or gloves for your effort, because you've been showing up and losing so often, you earned DKP.
So, I quit WoW and came here, because here, they don't do that nonsense.
Now you're saying that's the new goal? That is not a good thing.
This is a superhero game.
Superman: "That bank is being robbed. If I can make the robber drop some cash on his way out, that should be enough!"
X-Men: "Magneto's going to kill all humans. If we save a couple and he kills everyone else, that's fine."
It doesn't work.
That sort of scenario can work for a super hero (villainswhat?) game/universe via...
Skrull/Alien/Demon/Other-Worldly beings Invasion!! - Fight off as many as possible as they swarm through the portals to stem the tide... While, eventually, you -or others- will break through and stop the invasion at the core. However... until then, you must prevent the armies from advancing.
And, seemingly, that is what they have going on with these Praetorian raids here, isn't it?
If it gets much more specific than that... then I think I they erred. However, the main premise can still work.
If you're fighting as the Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire, you're going to have to repeatedly fight them in greatly similar circumstances. You don't generally just jump into the fight and blow up their headquarters and defeat their Emperor with just one campaign.
And I say that completely without snark.
That's just the way I'm looking at such scenarios. -
It's a war...
You may lose some battles, but you can still win the war.
And yeah, a focused, step by step, careful/cohesive approach seems to be the order of the day.
Which, honestly, sounds like the approach to take to any and all content in this game when the deck is stacked against you.
As a soloist and small team runner, I'm pretty familiar with taking the approach of carefully doing what we need to and avoiding making mistakes... That's too many of them, we need to pull, retreat back to so-and-so spot, we can slowly whittle them away, avoid them, we can't just stand toe-to-toe with these guys... and so on.
I'm just hoping that these types of approaches (along with knowing how to use my different powers) is enough for this content.
Until I log in tonight... this is all just speculation on my part. -
Quote:No, it is/was one of the obstacles. But it's not a UI obstacle...if they were designed to have color customization in the first place. Patron and Ancillary power pools were not, so the roadblock remains.
In order for the pools other than primaries and secondaries, they needed to design and program new UI for it and they needed to change the code in the powers (just like all the previous powers, in order to make them customizable).
Now that they've done UI work to include more than the AT primaries and secondaries, they've (at least) tackled that particular obstacle.
Whether or not they've started, finished or intend to work on the obstacle of coding the powers for customization... We don't know yet.
And Bright Shadow... You're well ahead of me, as I haven't even logged into I20 yet! So, I cannot help ya there.
So, Interface isn't customizable, eh? :/
at least they did get some of them right (Bright Shadow's problems aside). -
With Second Measure apparently saying "costume feature", I'd bet it is back item, or -more specifically- a jetpack.
Going with the idea that a Steampunk booster is next (may not be, for certain), some sort of steampunk jetpack/back item is a likely piece.
I figure they will include it as the first appearance of such a costume feature... And then eventually more will be put into the game (likely in the following issue... but who knows).
I'm not a fan of any of this, but... I accepted that this is the business model they are going with. And, so far, I've been able to keep up and have my fun here.
I do not like how much money it'd take a brand new player to acquire all the cool costumes that come from the boosters and such. I happen to not be a fan of such business models.
I ain't in charge though... only of my own wallet, of course (usually). -
They can be color customized!!
For real!
EDIT: Which, I really hope means that the UI obstacle for getting Power Pools and Epic Pools customizable has been pretty much worked out... and they can get to work on doing those powers now/asap/yesterday! -
Hmm... screen shot may be helpful... I'm thinking this may be better served in the Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs forum. They can work wonders there.
I don't know what to do other than to ask what operating system you're using and go down that route for trying to figure out why this would be happening to you.
If you're using Vista, I know some people have had irregularities with the costume folder... Not having used Vista, I'm not entirely sure how this worked, but there can be folders that you access and prod around in where you think Vista should be running the game from... but it actually has some other copy of it elsewhere... and that costume folder may be lacking the files.
I'm not sure this has anything to do with your problem... just firing a shot in the dark.
Here's another question/test/thing...
Check the name of the last visible saved costume on the menu screen...
Then save a new costume that starts with the letter A...
Is the last visible costume file still the same, or did it get bumped down, off the visible list? -
Just to give you some information that may help answer...
I have over 2 thousand saved costume files and can see them all by scrolling.
So, if you have fewer than that, you should be able to see them.
I don't think there's any limit to the amount you can save and see, but I just figured I'd give you that guideline to help see where you're at.
Check your Costumes folder in your City Of Heroes Directory and make sure the files are there. -
Quote:I couldn't find one for you though...What Golden Girl said--No wait! Just saw your Virtueverse bio! You're on Virtue! Captain-Electric and Electric-Knight gotta team up!
But absolutely!
It's time for a special Team Up issue!
Quote:Thanks to interesting career choices, I type 65 words per minute and often do this sort of thing while leading teams. Freaks people out, but they get used to it.
Until we get a third... Power Duo? -
No, I understood it already. I just used the term "semantics" in place of "different definitions".
I understood where everyone was coming from with their different definitions of "respect".
It's all good
I tend to use respect for "common courtesy", because it is through my respect and care of other individuals that I act and think that way.
You can gain more respect (or specific aspects that deserve respect) the more you know about most any individual, but yeah... I totally get what you are/were talking about.
Also... hehe... And this is just for humor's sake... You saying:
Quote:While a definition for semantics says:Not semantics so much as we use different words for the same thing.
Quote:- the study of language meaning
- the meaning of a word, phrase, sentence, or text
-
-
Quote:Also...Are you guys sure your projections are right?
I just got the following in-game popup:
We're sorry, your account has already received its full allotment of XP. If you wish to continue advancement with this character, delet unused characters to recycle their XP.
I had just started a new level one character...
And it took me 12 Skulls to gain a single point of xp... -
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!! !1!1!!!!
We had solid suggestions for an alternative system, back in beta, that never would have resulted in this.
If we can get a company like NCSoft to okay a conversion from XP to cupcakes, I think we might make it through this. -
Quote:Great attitude, mate. I'm sure others will continue to come in and offer their opinions. Just keep your head and don't let it bother you at all, nor let it push you off of that nice approach you're taking now.It was a general lack of experience on my part and I think I could have handled the situation alot better.
And yeah... we all tend to get into fun/interesting side tangents in threads (sometimes, no matter the original intentions)... so don't let that make you think people are continuing to pile up on you, as the thread continues to talk about respect, team strategies or recipes for rhubarb and custard.
And Melancton, I agree entirely.
Interpretations of text can be such an interesting thing to observe.
I always tend to receive short commands, such as "wait", as things that the person felt the need to go for speed in order to communicate it quickly... not because they're being rude.
I'll give them that benefit of the doubt until they prove otherwise.
As you point out, a well timed "Wait" can actually be sent and received in time far more often than a polite and more verbose suggestion.
Let's face it... people can be rather fragile (usually the ones who act the most hardened). What?? Did you just bark a command to WAIT???
It's better than sending, "Excuse me, my friends and teammates, but please do consider waiting for all team members to be ready and accompanying you before you venture farther, because the enemies may be a bit too dangerous if we separate" after the team is engaged with the enemy and/or wiped.
And yes... extreme example used for silliness. -
Not that it really matters, but...
I do tend to enjoy less detailed, somewhat generic content, because it allows me (and others) to fill in the details with our imagination and just focus on the fact that our characters are fighting these guys in this place for whatever reason seems appropriate.
And, when I find myself repeating content that I have already done, I generally blur the story that the game is repeating and just think of it more as further action within the life of my character(s) without a lot of the specifics that I may (or may not have) been immersed within the first time around.
None of this is so much conscious attempts on my part (as it often sounds contrived and such, when explaining it)... it's just the simple (for me) ability to play make believe with whatever you've got and in the way that you enjoy.
And yeah... if I don't enjoy it, I don't do it. -
With Speed Boost, maybe.
Oh, and...
Quote:I disagree with those who claim this game is nothing but easy. If you want strategy, go with a small to mid-size team. Rarely do full teams challenge my strategic thinking cap. A three or four-man team on the other hand, with powers well-balanced (or not), but up against the odds with the difficulty cranked up a bit-- this is where strategy comes into play. And believe me, it does. Smaller teams also give teammates a chance to get familiar with each others fighting styles. This is rarely, if ever, possible on full teams (excluding static or regular team-ups between the same people). Build up a good friend list and global friend list, and use it to put smaller teams together with people you can grow familiar with over time. (And don't simply rely on your super group to supply you with familiar faces. A good friends list often outlives a super group.) This is the most rewarding way to team.
Excluding a small handful of task forces, trials and Architect Entertainment missions, full teams require little thought. But that doesn't mean they don't appeal to me too. They're great fun and everyone gets a chance to type out saucy one-liners without risking their life or their team's. But people who always insist on a full team are missing out! -
I have to join in this side-tangent...
Quote:I agree completely!I know this is totally at a tangent, but I am not convinced that this particular belief is so wrong. I used to be of the opinion that respect had to be earned until someone pointed out something very simple.
The idea that your respect is so valuable that other people have to earn it suggests two things. One; that you think a great deal of yourself and Two; that other people should respect you instantly in order to want to gain your respect.
In my opinion respect should be a given. Yes, it is very easily lost and very hard to win back but to think less of someone because they haven't yet proven something to you seems rather... disrespectful?
Quote:Just wanted to say, Days, that I agree with your position on respect. When meeting someone for the first time, I treat them respectfully (i.e., politely, etc.), and how they respond thereafter influences either loss of respect, maintaining "default" level of respect or gaining more. Now this is an intuitive process; I don't have some explicit checklist 'o respect or anything. But basically my default setting is you get my respect, until you prove to me that you do not deserve it.
To people who say "I have no respect for you until you earn it" I say, "Thanks for letting me know that. I now have no interest in earning your oh-so-precious respect. Keep it, because you've just shown me that you don't deserve the respect I've already extended to you."
Quote:Same here. I don't subscribe to "respect is earned, not given." I subscribe to "respect is given. Disrespect is earned."
Others chimed in with some nice contributions to that tanget and represented pretty much what I was going to say.
Still, Claws, I totally understand what you were saying and, yes, I believe it was more a matter of semantics (which is what I think Days was trying to explain to you earlier).
All good. And yeah... there are certain facets that require that level of respect to be earned.
To me, it is somewhat along the longs of... "Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none". -
Hmmm...
Or I'd just make a statue in Kings Row for the Electric-Knight...
Hmmmmm... -
I'd call Cryptic offices on the phone and make loud raspberry noises.
If I could, I'd make it so that the buff and debuff symbols that float around characters from using inspirations, leadership pool powers, other buff and debuff powers from allies and enemies... could have those visuals completely turned off.
No floating, flashing purple shields, no yellow target symbols...
If we had the time, I'd make it a checkbox option to be able to turn them off.
If that couldn't be done within the time limit... I'd just erase those visuals and post on the forums that it was I who did that and if anyone had a problem with it, direct your complaints to me.
Then I'd call for an after-work Praetorian Hami Incarnate Trial run with the Paragon Studio Team. -
I love my Laser Eye Beams Of Doom!
Haha... Was fun looking through this, thanks!
As much as we could point to this to say, "See? Nuh uh, whatever you're complaining about right now is silly..."
Just because something in the past wasn't doom, doesn't mean something today or tomorrow won't be...
Doom is always there... threatening fluffy bunnies and happy children... -
If you were role-playing an egomaniac who got carried away with having a tiny bit of authority...
You did a good job!
So, your quick advice on how to deal with uncooperative teammates is to /kick them and find new ones!
Okay! I can't disagree with everything you've said, but the overall purpose of this thread seems poor... and the story doesn't really show you in a very good light at all. -
I just see it this way, Sam (whether it's good or bad, in the long run, I'm not going to hypothesize, because it is not under my control and I'm just here to have fun)...
This game has had some types of End Game before the Incarnate System.
- The main one came in the form of ALT-ing. The game supports it quite well.
- We've also had a good amount to do in the forms of:
- Giant Monster Hunts
- Zone Invasions
- Invention System
- Endless Radio Missions
- Hami and Mother Ship Raids
- Repeatable Content (for level 50)
- Ouroboros (go back and play -almost- any and all stuff from any level)
Now they're adding in the Incarnate System which is about further advancement and (currently) certain raiding content.
It's up to the player to pick and choose what they enjoy doing.
This game has long encouraged and benefited players who enjoy certain aspects and... they're adding things for other aspects of play as well.
The Incarnate System may bite into the ALT-ing aspect, since the rewards cannot be passed around.
That's just going to be for the player to decide on how to handle it, whether to participate.
As for your want for more content for your level 50s...
You're just going to have to be patient.
That aspect of level 50 End Game stuff takes a lot of time. The progression aspect can be catered to now... the content aspect takes time and patience.
Go on enjoying the End Game you've enjoyed.
Eventually, there may be plenty of the different sort of End Game variety that you'll be able to progress through it without repeating things. That'll be a bit before that's possible though.
Fortunately... you have a great system of ALT-ing and other things to muck around with.
Just my views on it...
And I don't say this as someone coming from an opposite view as yours. -
Going back a bit, but...
Quote:This may be the scariest truth I've ever seen on the internet....On the other hand I was dead certain that shows like Smallville were going to be cancelled after "a few episodes" and somehow it managed to last 10 seasons.
...
As for the new pics...
Good changes!
I think she's really pretty and I have nothing against her (Shush, I didn't mean it that way). In still pictures, she doesn't come across as Wonder Woman to me. However, that could certainly change in live action. So, that doesn't mean much at all.
Her face looks fine to me. It's more her body. It's not that I believe the woman playing her had to be a body builder or anything... and when you look back at people playing such roles in the past, they were rarely big at all... but times do change... I'd just expect her to be just a little bit more sculpted/chiseled. Even if not more buff/bigger... just a bit more shaped... some healthy sinew showing when running/using her muscles.
It's quite possible they told her not to work out too much, so I'm not laying the blame on her.
Just babbling about pictures of a person in a costume playing a comicbook character for a tv show.
If she's responsible for my gasoline prices going up so much... I'd like her to be fired.
Otherwise... This will most likely be a show I have no interest in... but that's pretty much a given for all tv shows anyway, hehe. -
Quote:Your points that it is not a matter of an I Win Button are valid, but throughout you dismiss zoning as meaningless (other than a time sink bother)....Removing travel time does not dumb down things in any way. It simply removes pointless padding.
You're free to be in favor of pointless padding, but that's not the same thing as giving the players an "I win" button.
One man's pointless padding is another's varying flavor with changing locales.
Dark Astoria is a poor example, as any time we get a reason to go there should be a good experience, in my book.
Of course, I'm not going to deny an excessive tendency to bounce players to a different zone to an annoying degree with every mission Blue Side...
Personally, any issues I have with that are not with the traveling and zoning aspect... just with the why are you sending me here and there and no cell phone numbers?
So, we do have some common ground, hehe.
Still... Memphis Bill's first reply rang true with me on this one.
Not to make it easy... but just to slowly rob all aspects of immersion from the game world.
I like a game world that forces you to pass by the roses for the ocassional sensory intake of their aroma. -
Clearly, as Zwill deftly sidestepped actually addressing it, it is all because of your silly hats.
-
Dear EU_Damz,
Even though they said the server list merger wasn't coming until much later...
I'm going to say that this downtime is entirely due to that and you damned non-NA account holders and your silly hats!
What... some of you do wear silly hats...
What?? NA account holders wear silly hats as well???
Maybe they do...
But they're not to blame for this server downtime... unlike you rotten, no-good, dirty, low down, EU account holding peoples!!
