Saved Costumes

I originally posted this in player questions and only got one response. I'm hoping more people would be able to help me here.

Is there a way to see my entire costume list? Right now I can only see part of it. I can't see anything past "s" alphabetically. Am I missing something obvious or do I have to delete or move costumes?

I know I have some saved after "s" alphabetically, but I can't scroll to them.

Just click and drag the scroll bar on the side.

I understand that part. What I mean is I know I have more costumes than it will let me scroll to.

Is there a limit to how many I can actually see in the costume creator?

Are you sure you saved the costumes you can't see?

Just because it is on a character doesn't mean you can save it. The costume has to be actually saved through the costume creator and given a name for it to be visible later. (least that's my understanding...)

So if you want to see SuperTrooper's costume it won't be visible just because you made that character... Not until you hit the save option in the CC at least.

Just to give you some information that may help answer...
I have over 2 thousand saved costume files and can see them all by scrolling.
So, if you have fewer than that, you should be able to see them.
I don't think there's any limit to the amount you can save and see, but I just figured I'd give you that guideline to help see where you're at.

Check your Costumes folder in your City Of Heroes Directory and make sure the files are there.

They are definitely saved. I've checked and rechecked. I also have no where near 2 thousand costumes saved. I still can't scroll past a certain point.

Sounds like a menu bug of some sort. Does the scrollbar just stop half-way down the screen? Or does it go all the way down the screen, yet you still only see a limited number of costumes?

As Electric-Knight posted, have you navigated to your City of Heroes directory (e.g., "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\") and looked in the "costumes" folder? That's where all your saved costumes are stored. Use it to confirm the number of saved costumes you have.

Are more costumes partly visible when you are at the bottom of the page, when you scroll down? As in, can you see the top part of the letters for another costume, but the rest is covered up by the bottom of the screen, suggesting there are indeed more costumes? Or is there a large blank space somewhere that seems out of place?

You might also consider putting up a screenshot; it's almost always useful.

Hmm... screen shot may be helpful... I'm thinking this may be better served in the Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs forum. They can work wonders there.

I don't know what to do other than to ask what operating system you're using and go down that route for trying to figure out why this would be happening to you.

If you're using Vista, I know some people have had irregularities with the costume folder... Not having used Vista, I'm not entirely sure how this worked, but there can be folders that you access and prod around in where you think Vista should be running the game from... but it actually has some other copy of it elsewhere... and that costume folder may be lacking the files.
I'm not sure this has anything to do with your problem... just firing a shot in the dark.

Here's another question/test/thing...

Check the name of the last visible saved costume on the menu screen...
Then save a new costume that starts with the letter A...
Is the last visible costume file still the same, or did it get bumped down, off the visible list?

If you have another computer load CoH on it and then copy the contents
of the costume folder over and see if they become visible. Alternatively if you have a friend
who plays email him a copy of a few of the costumes that won't load in your list and ask if he/she can see them.

If another PC is not available then I would say make a note of the cutoff point beyond which costumes stop
working and then turn off the game. Go into the costume folder and cut/paste all the ones you
can see out of the folder leaving only the ones that you could not scroll too left over.

Fire up the game and check if you can see them now or if the list of costumes is empty.
This would let you know if there is something wrong with those specific files (in which case you
open one and compare it to one of the working ones to see what is different) or with the list in the game client.

As always the goal with intelligent troubleshooting
is to eliminate variables and look for patterns/discrepancies.
