Thank you for letting me know.
  2. As an addendum, could someone point me to a thread where the Rewards Program is explained a bit more in-depth? I don't understand how it works very well, and I'm afraid my search-fu must be weak, as I can't find it.

    Thank you.

Thank you. I've always been a huge detractor from the idea of "for a limited time" rewards in MMO's, since it seems (to me) to punish players who either aren't around for that reward, or haven't been around long enough to earn it when it is released.

I'm especially a detractor when it comes to something as cool as the Celestial Armor, since I've not been a player long enough to earn yet.

(BTW, I had to edit my post because I was confusing the Celestial and Ascension pieces, but your answer still works)

This part concerns me a bit. I'm a huge fan of the Celestial Armor, but if I understand how the Rewards Program works, I (as a 24 month vet) do not have enough of the points available to me (short of spending more, real, money) to access Tier 9. As such, costume pieces will be unavailable to me.

Short of spending real money to hit Tier 9, does this mean that the Celestial Armor pieces will forever be out of reach for my characters?

I'll admit, I am still having trouble understanding the nuances of the new (and, admittedly, rather disliked by me) Rewards Program. So, if someone can help me with this, I'd be very appreciative.
  5. I'm having the same issue, but it's unpredictable.

Yesterday, I was crashing at least 5 times an hour in the morning (EST) with massive red spikes when running /net_graph. Then, in the afternoon and evening, it was all smooth sailing.

Today, it's back. There are constant red and yellow spikes which don't last long, but have made it so my powers will activate 4-5 seconds after I hit them. This is making completing missions near impossible.

    Can I cry now?

I don't know why people continue to write actual AE arcs anymore. Don't get me wrong, I applaud those who do and wish them the best. But, with the amount of "I want more XP for less effort, noob" comments actual writers get, the grief is just not worth it anymore...at least to me.

I spent several days writing, testing, and refining an arc I was very proud of. I ran through it solo a few times, then with my fiance, and then with members of our SG. All of the feedback I got was great. Some constructive criticism, and some happy comments. Once I refined it again, I ran it with other SG members for more feedback. After more than a week of test runs, I was incredibly proud of it. It was challenging without being impossible, had a good story component, and was long enough to offer a good "TF" style play.

But, after two weeks of it being published, it was down to 2 stars with a myriad of "This is a crappy farm" comments. I became so disheartened with writing my own AE missions and arcs that I gave up.

  8. Thank you guys for the build suggestions!

I'll have to play around with them to see which one will work best for me (both for my playstyle, and for the INF needed to buy the IOs). Mortal_Prey's looks closest to what I had roughly mapped out. But, cost is an issue for me, and Luck of the Gambler seems to be in all the builds. Based on what I have seen, that can get pretty pricey. Any ideas for alternate IO's to use until I can afford to by those?
  9. Hello Tanks!

I've been working on a Shield/Ice tank for quite a while, and have started to get him to a point where I need to have a solid build in mind to work toward. He is 38 now, and I want to start planning his Epic Power Pool and have a build in mind for IO sets.

Ideally, I would like to be the well-rounded tank who can still protect the team, but doesn't take an hour and a half to beat a yellow boss. Kind of a "jack of all trades, master of none" sort of build. Also, if it were possible to keep this build at around 600 mil or less, that would be great. I am not rolling in the influence.

Any advice for builds would be appreciated!

You are still entitled to the slots once you have unlocked them. For reasons I don't understand (because I'm not a computer tech), when the NCSoft Store goes offline for a bit, the slots that were purchased or unlocked above your base 12 slots become unavailable. When the store comes back online, your slots will too.

That said, it doesn't make it any less annoying or aggrivating, since the NCSoft Store seems to go offline anytime a cat farts within a mile of the server. I just tried to re-roll a toon of mine, only to find that his slot is now locked. I don't mind waiting, but I'll be beyond livid if I lose his name because someone who didn't lose a slot poaches it in the meantime.

Really, combining Blast powers in some fashion with personal protection in some fashion that's not all the way one or all the way the other is probably the biggest thing I want to see, system-wise.
While I know it is a pie-in-the-sky dream, I'd love to see people be able to make their own AT's in a sense. So, you want to be an Invuln/Kin Tankfender? Cool...not that you could do much but be a buffing meatshield, but why not?

I've been wanting to play an Ice Scrapper since I joined. I don't see why we can't have Ice Scrappers and Stalkers, Dark Blasters, and the like.
  12. Thank you everyone for all the responses!

It's great to see other people having the same positive view of the CoX community. It really is a wonderful community, and people like you all are the reason for it.

I've actually done that. My partner and I were laying in bed one night, almost asleep, when I nearly knocked him out of bed by sitting bolt upright and shouting "I have an idea!" I then rushed to my computer to make my (now deleted) Invuln/Energy Melee tanker.
  14. Hello all...

I've been on this game for about 18 months now (I'll get my 18 month badge on Feb. 2). As my first MMO, I really had no idea what to expect concerning the game community. But, in this time, I have realized that the City of Heroes community is, by and large, a friendly, fun, helpful group. We share tips and tricks with one another, help each other out, congratulate one another on our accomplishments, and commiserate with one another over bad PUG stories. In short, the CoX community actually feels like a community.

So, in my naivete, I mistakenly thought that other MMOs would share the same community feel that I've come to expect and love here. (Hey, CoX was my first MMO, I can be excused for being naive, can't I?).

Well, last week my partner and I decided to try out the other new superhero MMO that just launched. We got in to playing the game, enjoyed it, and were looking forward to finding out from others some tips, tricks, and things we had missed.

Imagine my dismay when I logged in to that community's forums, and realized that 75% of the posts were insults toward other players. Even questions such as "I am new to this brand-new MMO that has been out only a week, how do I find (Major NPC)?" are greeted with "Learn to play Noob!" and "Use the F***ING SEARCH FUNCTION!!!11!!" In fact, when I posted my response to a question concerning an in-game issue, I was insulted because I didn't share the opinions of the beta testers.

This complete disregard for any sense of community, and the sheer masochistic joy many players seemed to get in insulting "teh n00bs" made me realize that I will never feel any sense of commitment to that game. It is a fun game, sure. But, when people in a game's "community" go out of their way to one-up each other, insult one another, and feed their own egos, I have little incentive to see the game succeed in the long-term.

Now, that leads me back to the purpose behind my post. I wanted to thank the CoX community for being the positive place it is, and making my entrance in to MMOs a memorable one. Even though I take hiatuses from the game now and then, I want to see this game, this community, succeed. It is an amazing game, with an equally amazing group of players. So, to all of you, I say thank you!
  15. The only truly evil character I have successfully RP'd with was an old Ice/Ice Dom of mine. Although I solo'd most of the time, taking a page form what others have said about a truly evil person rarely teaming up, I did happen to form an on-again, off-again, evil RP team with a SS/WP Brute I met doing a SF.

He and I would team up together, and spend an hour or two street-sweeping, killing anything that showed up. It was very much a "if you are alive, you need to not be anymore" type of team.

Though, we realized after the first couple of teams that if are characters were truly evil, they would likely grow to distrust each other. So, to RP it properly, we took ourselves to the arena to have a final "last evil man standing" competition...and flex our evil muscles.

He won. Soundly. I got my butt handed to me in short order, but it was one of the most fun RP duos I've ever been on.

I don't think they're bad, because I usually get good responses, but there are probably ten times as many arcs as there are actual players, and I don't blame anyone for not bothering to rifle through the pile.
I agree. I would fully support some sort of revamp of the AE mission select menus.

Perhaps categorizing the missions and arcs would help players find something they are interested in.

    "What are you looking for?"
-Click "single mission" or "multi-mission arc."-

    "What style of mission?"
-Click "comedy," "CoH lore," "Player created lore," etc-

"Would you like to face EB's and AVs?"
    -Click "Yes" or "No."

This is just an idea, but I think giving players a better way to sort the missions available to find what THEY like and will fit THEIR playstyle could help with two problems. First, it will get the lesser-played arcs out of the AE purgatory basement (helping the authors), and second it will help stop the flooding of missions that pop up for you to have to sort through on your own (helping the players).

Fair enough. You make an excellent point, and I apologize. I shall edit my post as well.

To be fair, LOLBat is not my cup of tea, and I do not enjoy it. However, given how many players DO enjoy it, I fully admit that there must be something there worthy of drawing others in.

Thank you, I stand corrected...and sheepish.

Apparently focusing on story interfered with the farmers, so my arc got bad ratings and pushed to the bottom of the pile.
I had the same thing happen to me.

I spent a good week building, editing, testing, retesting, re-editing, scrapping, starting over, and tweaking an AE arc that I absolutely loved. I wanted something a bit different than the standard "look, crazy people with bats" stuff. So, hearkening back to my childhood, I wrote a four-part arc based around Alice in Wonderland. For each mission, you had to fight a different "suit," ending with an AV fight with the Queen of Hearts. This was a STORY arc, not a "let's see how fast we can run it, maxxing our XP and tickets along the way" arc.

I loved it. It was challenging, but not impossible. It had a good mix (IMO) of melee, ranged, and CC wielding enemies, and was just fun (again, IMO).

But, as soon as it got published, I was being one-starred constantly with feedback complaining that it wasn't farmable, didn't give enough XP, or that it was too tough to solo.

The AE community is not a kind one, and gives off the impression that they only care about arcs and contain one or more of three things: 1) Farms, farms, and more farms. 2) The "OMG..it's teh uber-funny" missions that are hard to follow or understand. 3) Arcs that can't be run unless you are a fully purple IO'd melee toon.

So, why don't I play AE? Because, outside of arcs friends have written for RP purposes, I haven't found anything worth playing or any sense that the AE community cares to give anyone else a legitimate shot.
  19. Eden's Fall

    ATs and Genders

I had to examine my own list, because I hadn't considered the notion of one type of AT having a larger gender percentage than another. But, sadly, I think I actually end up contributing to this.

I only play on Virtue, and here is my breakdown:
    Male: 12
    Female: 7
    Total: 19

    Male Melee: 6
Female Melee: 1 (My only 50 melee is my female Dark/Shield Scrapper)
    Total Melee: 7
    (Scrapper, Stalkers, Tanks, Brutes)

    Male Blasters: 1
    Female Blasters: 2
    Total Blasters: 3
(Note: Blasters are their own category to me since, of the non-melee standard ATs, they are the only ones who also couldn't be classified as support in someway...i.e. holds, heals, buffs, etc)

    Male Support: 3
    Female Support: 3
    Total Support: 6
    (Controllers, Defenders, Corrupters, Dominators, Masterminds)

    Male HEAT's: 1
    Female HEAT's: 0
    Total HEAT's: 1

    Male VEAT's: 1 (Crab Spider)
    Female VEAT's: 1 (Night Widow)
    Total VEAT's: 2

I'm pretty even across all AT types except melee, having only 1 female to the 6 male. But, I guess the balance there comes from the fact that my only melee toon to hit 50 (hey, I only have 3 50's total) is my female Dark/Shield Scrapper, Princess Morana. Also, Princess Morana shares the "most fun for me" spot with my forum name-sake, Eden's Fall (my Kin/Energy Defender).

Like I suspected, no reasoning for why your "But, MMO's should require team-play" line. Very well, carry on.

I am so sick of hearing that ridiculous argument. Yes, it is an MMO. Now, please, tell me where it is written that one MUST be forced to team by the simple virtue of this being an MMO. If you choose to do the semantics argument of "but..but...MMO stands for...," I will know you have nothing of actual substance to contribute to the discussion and will therefore ignore you accordingly.

Yes, I understand how MMO's work. But, honestly, making content available for the solo-player, even if it is harder to do, is not a bad thing. We already have TFs, SFs, Raids, and Trials that require teams. Why is it so wrong to allow a player who prefers to solo the ability to get their Alpha slot unlocked without having to resort to playing in a way they don't like?
  22. The ones I have grown to hate and/or am just simply bored with...

My first 50, a Grav/Emp Controller. She was a blast to play, always had teams to join, and was a great character to get used to the game on. However, since she hit 50, I've pulled her out for two mothership raids and a few random AE arcs friends have written. Other than that, she sits on my character screen, gathering dust.

My WP/Elec Tank. I loved him for the longest time, and he now sits at 43...with me rolling my eyes at him everytime I see him on my character select screen. I just CAN'T play him. I know it is part and parcel of the Tanks, but I just hate how weak their attacks are. Sure, very little can bring me down, but I just stand there being a meat shield for the team...and that gets boring in about 45 seconds.

My Fire/Dark Corr. Sure, everyone says they are an amazing Corr. buid, but I just can't do it for long. He's at level 28, and I can barely get through a single mission with him without getting bored to tears from the constant repetition.

My six attempts at Illusion Controllers. Damn, I WANT to like this set. I WANT to play this set. I have some amazing concepts in my head for this set. But, at the end of the day, I get so bored with it that I delete them all. Now, if they add Illusion Control to the Doms...that would be different. I just can't find a good secondary to go with Illusion Control that doesn't make me bored. I've tried /Rad, /Kin, /Emp...nothing feels right.

Every single MM I have ever tried...about three of ever primary. Zombies, Thugs, Ninjas, and Mercs are boring...Demons can just go back to the hell they came from never to return again...and Bots seems like fun to me, until I realize that I can't find a decently thematic secondary to take with it. I hate the traps set (HATE..fiery, passionate, HATE for /traps on anything), and I want some sort of "techno" set for secondary. I just can't win it seems on that.

Other than that, I seem to be pretty flexible on which toons, ATs, and powers I can play.

*NOTE: Before the "OMG, what is wrong with you? Traps is uber-leet" posts start, I know it is a good set...for others. For me, it is obnoxious to play from start to finish.

    Something! Anything! For Kheldians.

Lets run down through my checklist:
Power Color Customization added to the game, Kheldians strike one.
Patron Power Pools and Epic Power Pools open up to all ATs, except Kheldians. Strike two.
Alternate Animations for Powers start coming at us, Kheldians strike three.

A bone tossed in our general direction would be nice.

The past reasoning was that there were few Kheldians because of the lv 50 unlock requirement. That has since changed, perhaps the quantity of Kheldians has also changed to make throwing them a bone worthwhile.
I am with you 100% on this one. Now, I am not a HUGE Kheldian player, but I do have both a Warshade and a Peacebringer around the mid-to-late 30's. Both are fun, but I am getting so tired of their attack animations and power colors always having to be the same.

While it is partially due to my own OCD issues, I can not play characters whose power colors don't match their costumes. Before power customization, I was constantly making blue-costumed Energy blasters, red-costumed fire blasters/scrappers/etc, and so on. Then power customization came out and I thought "Yes, having the ability to match my costumes and the colors together is great!" In fact, my fire/mental blaster is the one I have the most fun with when it comes to colors (I love her purple and green costume with matching fire).

Then, I get on my Kheldians. Oh, look...my PB will always be in whites and blues. Oh, look...my WS will always be in blacks and purples. Why? Because once the Kheldians were introduced to the game, the devs promptly gave them the finger, forgot about them, and made is so we are forbidden from changing something as simple as what color their powers are.

For being the "epic" archetypes they are touted as being, it seems the devs just stopped caring about them at all.

    Now...beyond Kheldians....

Can we please, for the love of all things holy, have the ability to TURN OFF the colors and glow effects of the energy melee and energy manipulation sets?

I LOVE _____/Energy blappers. So much fun to play, so much more interactive than your standard blaster types, but I get so tired of the glowing "pom-poms" every time I activate my powers.

As a case in point: I have an Archery/Energy blaster who is a blast to play. But, the glow from /energy just doesn't fit the natural "Green Arrow" type of character that I am trying to make her be. She is a natural origin blaster, who does not even have a travel power (instead, she keeps the Shadow Shard's jetpack supplier in business, constantly). I'm okay with that. As much as I would love for there to be an option for a flying character to have a permanent jetpack as a costume option, I know that I have better luck getting Santa to bring me the Easter Bunny for Christmas than I have in getting that wish fulfilled. But, it seems wholly reasonable for us to simply be able to turn off the effects on something like Energy Manipulation/Melee.

Please, let us have some options for our natural origin blasters that don't include traps! (Sorry, not a fan of traps, never will be).
  24. I am loving this issue...for the most part. I only have two complaints.

    1) The loss of seeing set bonuses on the character info screen. Seriously? Why was that done? If there is a reason the development team has for doing so, that's fine. But, for the love of Pete, tell us these things. I don't mind changes so much when it is communicated to us that it IS going to change and WHY. Removing the set bonuses from the info just seems pointless. As a personal grumble on it, for the first time since starting CoX I have a fully IO'd toon. But, I did that AFTER i19 launched. So, now, after waiting so long to finally have a toon with set bonuses I could be proud of, I can't even see them for myself. (Yes, that portion of the grumble is just a personal snark...the first part is more general).

    2) The Trapdoor mission. Sonofa...I hate this mission. HATE IT. Hate...fiery...burning...hate! If it isn't him constantly splicing out clones to heal himself, it is the lava that he inevitably drops in to when you go to talk to him (or that I fall in to when trying to bounce around to get his clones). I've tried the advice others offered, pulling him out of that room, guiding him to one place or another. And, perhaps that does work. Perhaps, or most likely, I just fail at that skill. I've tried it on a few different toons, and each time I'll manage to get him to follow me for a short bit, just to have him turn around and run back toward the platform.

    Okay...personal annoyances and grumbles over.

The rest of the issue: Merged train lines (A+), changed animations for blast power (A), minor graphics updates here and there...such as the Pocket D (A), Incarnate system (A-...only because the way to use and implement it, as explained IN game, seems rather uninformative and confusing), free respecs (A+ for any respec), inherent fitness (A-...only for the lack of extra slots to go with the extra powers we now have, meaning some builds I've had before just got more complicated for me), zone events in Praetoria (A).

All in all, I am very happy with i19. It is only those two grumbly points at the beginning that have me a bit annoyed.
