Quote:I ran a x8 Council mission the other night with my Ice/Axe and I don't remember them getting knocked back, though they were definitely blue. Honestly though that's a great question, and I didn't pay enough attention to answer it definitively.Mace has the better cone in Crowd Control, thus slightly better AoE output. Not horribly noticeable, but it's there.
A thought just occurred to me--KD changes to KB on lower conning mobs. So how's that work w/the new level shift? Will level shifted Axe attacks KB lvl 50 mobs now? Haven't alpha'ed my SD/Axe yet so I can't test myself. -
Quote:Thanks, I appreciate the compliment! If nothing else I was prepared. I had read everything I could find on how to tank Recluse, so I knew the stats I needed and I had bought the INSP I felt I needed. I had also added the safety net: a range IO in taunt.Oh cool So you were the Tank? Hey you did fine for your first time on that. LR can be a pain and anyone that does that TF, minus the Master of runs, almosts expects a couple of deaths along the way. I mean after all between the five mission you battle something like 17 or 18 (?) AVs, at least one GM (the Flyer), and countless ambushes.
You should have seen the last one I did last night with my Blaster. We were doing fine until we got to taking out the towers. The tank just couldn't take the damage LR was throwing at him and we were constantly getting sent to the hospital. We finally had a Fire/Kin keep Recluse busy with her Imps (don't ask me how but she managed it) and we got the towers down and took revenge on Recluse for all that debt. At one point I realized the reason my debt wasn't getting any higher was I had reached the debt cap! Amazingly we defeated Lord Recluse and got the end bonus and after being more than 400,000 in debt I was debt free.Hey She's 50 level debt is just another badge! I lost track on how long that all took but it was 3AM and I logged off and went to BED.
Honestly, I felt very good when we finished and without too terribly much trouble. It was a very Incarnate earning feeling, if that makes sense. I main tanked the STF for the first time to get my rare! That's appropriate I think!
One thing about that team, we didn't have hardly any healing. I think just Transfusion, and that couldn't have been very slotted. At least it wasn't healing me for much. There were times I was begging my Hoarfrost to recharge! I think Tessa's DEF boost really helped me out too. -
I tanked the STF on Tuesday with my Ice/Axe and did well. Recluse is really best handled by hovering/flying with a range in taunt, but I did a little of it straight up with INSP as well. No trouble with the four AV's, I even tanked GW and Scirocco for a good while when the puller got both. Even so we wound up retreating so we could just do one at a time.
I think on most of them I wound up using Hoarfrost at least once. My Hoarfrost is very far from perma, I don't even have Hasten, so it can be hard for me to use it more than once. I was getting extra DEF from an SoA, and I'm capped to NRG/NEG and SM/LE. I do remember that Black Scorpion gave me a really good smack right at the beginning of the battle, and Scirocco's tornadoes got me pretty good, and GW of course is tough, but they were all doable.
I'll see if I can find my build and post it, or look at yours, but I can't imagine I'm any different or better (no Hasten for me, no purples). Maybe the RNG was just not on your side.
EDIT: I should add that one of the AV's in the Aeon mission popped me like a bubble. I think it was Silent Blade. I was there, and then I was down. I still don't know what hit me.

The borders aren't even visible from where they are.I love this show but that stupid spider security thing just annoyed the crap out of me. Chuck often skirts the borders of reality so far as gadgetry goes but that just went too far.
I just got caught up yesterday but haven't seen this one. The two before it were really good though! -
Quote:I'm not sure why you think the Alpha Incarnate stuff is going to extend your playtime enjoyment. You do an arc that takes you an hour and then go back to your normal play. For the rare you do a 1-2 hour task force and poof! you've advanced. Yay! Except things are pretty much the same except enemies con lower. You maybe change your difficulty (though there's no great reason to) and then you go back to tip missions, badging, AE, etc. This is pretty much it for me. CoX is a great game but I can only run so many tip missions and the like so many times. I'm bored and have nothing to do as a soloer. Unable to progress my main character any further there's just no real reason to stay subbed to this game.
People say- but but but there's stuff to do! Badge hunting, some badge hunting, or maybe you could badge hunt? Been there done that. Spent lots of time in AE and even there it's just making your own fun. When a game gets to the point where you as a player HAVE to make your own fun then something is wrong. The fun should be right there at your fingertips- not wtf am I going to do today...More tip missions? Sigh... Work on my multi billion prestige base? Done it, done it, done it.
I seriously think the developers are underestimating how large of the player base is soloers and small groups. When we can't progress our characters then it's done. Altitits only lasts for a spell then you hit the same wall. Just myself I have over 8 level 50 over 2 accounts... Really think I want to level another character when I can't fully enjoy the ones I already have?
To change the entire game direction at such a late stage... I just really don't get it Devs. Sometimes you must cut your own nose off despite your face to see reasoning. When subs start to suffer then 'hopefully' they'll start to understand. This sure as hell won't increase subs if that's the intention. -
Quote:I did STF once on my main Arctic Willow, that was the mission with Operative Tessa. I've gone down the Damage path with my Incarnate slots.Presently I have 3 at 50 (+1) but I can promise I will never do the same TF that many times in the same day ever again.
So let's see:
Operative Tessa (My main and Badger) 50 (+1)
Taxibot Sara2.0 (My First ever 50) 50 (+1)
Lorien Sindinari' (My favorite Blaster) 50 (+1) .. after 2 tries the first STF was a failure
Taxibot Tandar (my.. well my Plant/Rad) ..still 50 but has her Notice and now just needs a few more shards to have her rare and be 50 (+1)
In case you lost count that's 5 Statesman TFs in one day 4 successes and one failure (one the final mission) My head hurts!
I thought that was a good team. I didn't get Recluse in the right spot at first, but I figured it out. I was sure glad the team was willing to answer my questions. -
Quote:I had to stare at the choices for a couple seconds before I noticed the "Notice of the Well bonded" message on the screen. It's not really intuitive. I was worried I wasn't seeing the choice! Thanks, just trying to wrap my head around this. I'm kind of dense on some things.
It's not just you.

Quote:Just finished the STF with a really good group (thanks you guys!) and this is the way it was. You don't pick the Notice, it just bonds with you automatically. It sounds to me that as an Incarnate you have the following options:
Choose Essence of the Incarnate component. Receive Essence of the Incarnate component, 25 merits, and Notice of the Well.
Choose merits. Receive 50 merits and Notice of the Well.
Choose SHOE. Receive SHOE, 25 merits, and Notice of the Well.
From the phrasing of the patch note, it sounds like the Notice is automatically awarded to any Incarnate character.
First time as lead tank in STF and I think it went well!

Quote:I do have the Noxious Gas power, it never occurred to me that it would be affected by the hold boost.Acc/Def/Hold is very inviting for a defensive pet set with a poison secondary, and you have 2 holds (not three? paralytic poison, noxious gas, and a patron?). Just saying, you get really good recharge on paralytic. With more duration, stacking is easier and you can cover your lack of AoE controls (except for neurotoxic breath) by spitting out a lot of holds.
It sure seems like the ACC-DEF-HOLD would be the best choice. I'm still open to discussion though. -
I'm figuring I will only have one Very rare with each of my characters, so I want to make sure I make a good choice. Here's what I've figured out for my Thugs/Poison MM.
If I get the Accuracy - Defense - Hold Very Rare I'm pretty sure it'll put my pets above the defense soft cap to everything. Every type, every position. I think they'll sit around 46% or so. And of course I'd get the bonuses for Holds (I have two) and Accuracy.
If I get the Damage - Immob - Def Debuff Very Rare I'll increase my pet damage by a chunky amount. Since they shoot they also do Defense Debuffs, as does my secondary, Poison. No immobilizes though.
So what's better? Damage or Defense? Is there something I'm missing about the Recharge or End Reduction lines? If the pets don't get a level boost is it going to be a big deal to get that extra accuracy?
I do have all three Leadership powers. My pets currently sit around 38% DEF, and I can get another couple points out of a respec and some Hami-O's.
Thoughts on good choices for a Thugs/Poison?
Thanks! -
Added one level to my Warshade and three to a new Mastermind. Nothing too big. Did one ITF (maybe with Wendy) that wasn't done with the second mission after over an hour and one ITF where we fought our way through with aplomb. I even did my first Hami raid and it was cool!
I didn't get a lot explained to me, so I'm not sure that I helped all that much (I just read something about EoE's and I never had one and never used one) but I tried! -
Quote:OP here! I'm trying a Necro/Thermal and it's going pretty well thus far. I'll probably try a Necro/Storm too.Have an undead pirate necro/storm. His minions are named things like "Scurvy Dog" and "Bo'sun". Toyed with another that has all the /storm powers recolored to look like dirt and sand, but until they give us a "wrapped" torso and legs, I'm not terribly enthusiastic about playing my "mummy" character.
The mummy thing is not too far off from my theme. I'm giving all my pets Pharoh names and myself as well. I did a monolithic costume, I'll do a zombie/mummy costume, a human pharoh costume, and probably a Ra (bird head) costume with the new animal pack that's coming out.
Thermal colored REALLY well to a sand color. -
Quote:I tanked an ITF over the weekend and at the end when I was tanking Rommie one of the members said "Man you're a great Ice Tank!" I took it as a compliment, but I there's a little backhand to that compliment.Heard while my Ice/Axe was tanking - and surviving - the Ambush at the dais at the end of the first the first mission of the ITF:
"I never saw a tank survive so much damage!" (Not that I was taking all that much)
Worst set in PVE. Riiiiiight.

Quote:I think that's where the damage one will come into play. Being able to add 30+% of non-ED capped damage with the Very Rare could make a really big difference I think.at least the tier 1 and tier 2's wont do much for defense or resistance, because as a tanker, you've probably already maxed them out with regular slotting. However i'd love to see the higher tier alpha slots, with 2/3rd of the enhancement ignoring ED. should make for some intersting building. Come on Mids!! I wanna check it out!
Really, at the Very Rare level I think almost all of them could make a big difference because of that ED exemption. -
The patch notes for today say that this may not be a problem anymore.
Masterminds
Pets should no longer switch names after zoning.

Mace is better.
Mace has 100% chances for knock on some of its powers, Axe is always a chance for knock. Despite Axe being the "knock set" Mace is just as good at knock with the additional chances for stun.
Shatter's cone is over twice as wide as Cleave's. Cleave can hit more targets, but the ability to hit 10 targets in a 20 degree cone is useless.
Crowd Control (10 targets) can hit twice as many targets as Pendulum. -

Quote:I'm not sure this is a valid point right now. Castle is leaving or gone and there's a new person taking over powers. That person may have slightly differing views on debates that have previously been discussed. If anything, right now is the BEST time to bring up things like this again simply because of that change.
... except, of course, that others have already asked for similar treatment for other powers in this, and other, threads.
I've been considering bringing up some of the changes I would like to see, I've just been waiting for the new powers person to show up.
EDIT: Shoot, I should have done something bigger for my 1000th post. Maybe some cussing or giant yellow font stuff! Nah, I'll stick with this. -
Quote:Seems an excellent idea to me.I think Speed Boost should have its duration halved and when you cast it at someone, pop up a dialog box that asks "Are you sure you want to do this? They're going to go really fast!" Because clearly, there is no threshold where buffing is tedious, and if you think it sucks, why play a buffer?
P.S. I don't want the Mastermind upgrades. I think Sonic, Force Field, and Cold shields should renew themselves if someone you placed them on enters the radius of your bubble or fog. You would only have to recast the shield completely if they spent 4 minutes outside your aura. Thermal and Kinetics would receive the same treatment for Warmth and Transfusion. That way you can't just leave the buffer at the door. This bonus would only apply to always-up shield powers, and not "rolling buff" powers like Fortitude or Forge. Specifically:
- Force Field shields
- Cold shields
- Sonic shields
- Speed Boost
- Thermal shields
I have to stop the team to apply the PBAoE buff!
- No, the team just has to orbit near you every four minutes or so.
People who don't want a buff get them anyway!
- No, the shields are still single target, they just get renewed as a PBAoE. If they don't want it, they don't get it. If they get it by accident they just stay out of the radius and let it wear off. In fact this would actually make it easier to handle the "I don't want that buff" characters since you'd probably only have to remember NOT to buff them once.
I might burn extra END because I missed someone with my PBAoE buff!
- It's not PBAoE, it's single target. If they forget to come near you within the four minutes just bubble them manually.
The only drawback I see is END cost. The auto renew could be going off an awful lot on full teams, and that's a lot of shields. END cost for renewal would have to be made minimal to offset the possibility of a team of 8 MM's running around with no END, and no choice to turn auto renewing off. I think there would have to be an END cost, but it would have to be figured as small. Most of the shields have pretty small END costs as it is, so I don't think that would be a huge problem.
Pretty cool idea Oedipus Tex! -
Maybe try defeating lower level foes? Any foe over level 20 can give you a tip, no matter your level. I get them all the time in Talos defeating grays. Maybe something like that would work?
I have no idea how you could go that many missions and not get one. That's amazing in a bad way. -
Hello!
I have a concept I'd like to try out that involves a Necro Mastermind, but I'm not totally sure about the secondary. I don't want to do Dark, as I've played Dark a bunch and I'd like to try something different (plus it seems like Dark is very popular with Necro, seems like all the Necro threads I found were about Dark).
I don't want to do Traps, since the technology there won't fit the concept I don't think. TA is kind of the same; it's a no due to technology but also because I don't want to have the bow.
I've got a Poison MM already, and I like the set but I don't want to reuse it for this MM. I've got a Force Field Defender and I'm not a big fan of that set, so I think that's out.
That narrows it down quite a bit and leaves me with Pain, Thermal, or Storm. I think any of those would fit my concept pretty well. Any thoughts on which might be the best performing? I was leaning Thermal, but I'm not sure I want to do all the shielding every four minutes.
Anyone have experience with Necro/Thermal, Necro/Pain, or Necro/Storm that would like to share their thoughts?
Thanks! -
Quote:I usually don't even get 2 hours. Maybe enough for a couple tip missions, or more if I speed through them. But I've got an uncommon and a common. The RNG can be wacky for sure (it's random!), I've had spots where I got two shards in two foes and then it'll be two sessions or more before I see another one. When i see this, my first thought is to call shenanigans but it might just be towards the RNG. I have similar play sessions you have described yet i only have 3 shards dropped for me since i19's launch.
If the predominant content in the next 2 issues needs that alpha slotted, then looks like i would be missing out for the next half a year maybe?
Not an amusing thought for me at all.
It does have to do with the number of foes you're fighting though. When I run my Tanker at +0/x8 I have a much better chance of getting shards than when I run my Dominator at +2/x2. I think quantity helps, not quality. But I like quantity better anyway.
Maybe that's something you could adjust? Just trying to help. -
Quote:Cool interview, and Void_Huntress was right, having little stats like that is fun!Strangely enough, they included some stats like that in Positrons new interview with ten Ton Hammer

Quote:Again, I'm afraid I have to <shrug>. I haven't run Victor Ross, maybe I'll look it up and see what it is.The way the system advances (at least if it continues the current trend throughout) is fine. That all content designed to be tackled by Incarnates seems to be team- (and challenge-, and "tactic"-) gated is not. I'd like to see Incarnate story arcs, not just Task Forces. Something for our Incarnates to tackle by themselves, some threat that would have outclassed regular heroes (but without the cheap mechanic designed to create this in Apex and Tin Mage) but that is right up the alley of Incarnate characters.
Victor Ross's story arc is actually a really good example of something that should have been an Incarnate arc (balanced, ideally, so that the final showdown mission doesn't require a "cheat" power to work). A new Incarnate contact, one who does not require a Task Force, would be the ideal.
Hints that such is coming, however, have thus far been non-existent. The hints we've been given for forthcoming Incarnate content has been "Trials", which by precedent in the game is teamed content. I see no reason to believe that they are planning on adding anything else (the "Incarnate Trials" have been the central hype in every communique,) and shall not act on an assumption that they are without evidence.
As mentioned above I've had a great time running tip missions, which is new content. I still like running radio missions. Pretty much as long as I can log in and beat the stuffing out of a small horde of bad guys I don't care how repetitive the tileset or mission plot is. I'm simple (and casual) that way. If my Incarnate slot allows me to go into that Council radio mission and slap around a higher number of bad guys quicker then it's doing it's job as far as I'm concerned.
It'd be cool if there was an Incarnate contact/arc. I would think there probably will be at some point, but even if there isn't I don't think I'd miss it much. If I really wanted to progress my character's story in that way that badly I'd probably just look at doing it in AE so that I happens when and how I want it to.
