STF and the Ice Tank
I played with ya build for 5 mins to "increase hp". You can soft cap but lucky shots can get thru, you can resist them shots but only attain so much in resistance, the more hp you have the more you have to work with that resistance and sometimes that extra bit of hp leaves you with a fighting chance. So were you constantly perma hoarfrosting for +hp? Chilling embrace is -dam. Knowledge of the AVs attacks comes with experience, sometimes you can tank them for attacks you can handle. Other options are debatable for your idea of play. In teams no one is expected to be an island, some people look good from the support they get and its not fair if others expect perfection from you when they didnt give it. I did an STF earlier as a defender and I wasn't at my best, newish build, new UI layout, long time no see toon and longish nails XD.

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
I was basically perma Hoarfrost, with a few second lapse here and there. I don't expect to be an island but shouldn't I be able to tank an AV? Oh well, maybe I'm just being too critical...everybody faceplants now and again...or 10-15 times.
Were you trying to tank all four at once? This, as I discovered first hand yesterday, is extremely difficult for a softcapped (S/L/E/N/F/C) invuln, which has much higher resists and the exact same heal as an Ice, so I could see this being bad from the start. I didn't set out to tank all four, but when they came I wanted to see if I could handle it sans support, and I couldn't.
Try them one at a time, it is far easier.
As for your build, I don't have mids at work and I don't have an ice/ tank (I do have an /ice tank though), but off the top of my head:
*In frozing touch you have 4 hecatomb and 2 basilisk's gaze. I'm assuming this is for the 2.5% E/N def bonus at two pieces. You could take them out, add 1 more slot to hecatomb for the 10% rech increase
to help offsel the lost E/N def, trade 3 of the Eradications in Frozen aura with three crushing blows for 1.25% E/N def (and most likely better numbers)
If you could find one more slot (maybe take the end redux out of ice patch) you could add a Def IO to CJ, which should garner you and extra percent or so to all def
*Posi Blast overslots a power for damage, I'd remove slot from Frost and add to taunt for the 5th mocking beratement (thats the F/C def bonus, correct?)
I did two STFs last night, once on my Dark Armour/Fire Melee tanker, and once on my Radiation Emission/ Electric Blast defender. Both runs had two capable tankers. Paired with my DA/FM was a SD/? We easily tanked the 4 AVs at once. When it came to LR, me and an Empath defender went after LR, while the rest hit the towers. I was doing good, I thought. I had enough defense buffs to put me around 75% melee. Sitting pretty beside a tower to heal off of. Then wham wham, two shotted. Another wham and the emp was down too as I was in mid self-rez animation. I regained aggro, kept him occupied for about a minute, then wham wham again (didn't have the defense buffs after rez). The Shielder hopped over and took aggro, I hosp'd and took his spot on the tower team (they had just finished the red tower when I went down for the 2nd time).
When I was on my defender we had a Willpower tanker, a Fire tanker, and a Stone brute. Again, handled all 4 AVs without significant issue (some deaths, but no panic attacks). LR on the other hand...for support we had my Rad (not so great for healing a tanker vs. LR), a kin, and a cold domination. Still couldn't keep either of those "tanks" alive...until, the WP flew around taunting LR and flying away...essentially joust-taunting . Hey, whatever works right? I don't know how IO'd those guys were, but my DA has some significant IO investment (using Dechs Kaison's as a rough guide). LR, while buffed by the towers, is VERY tough to just go toe-to-toe with. Not impossible (I've seen some Stone tanks do it), but very tough without support, and even with support your best bet is: TAKE OUT THE TOWERS ASAFP.
I tanked the STF on Tuesday with my Ice/Axe and did well. Recluse is really best handled by hovering/flying with a range in taunt, but I did a little of it straight up with INSP as well. No trouble with the four AV's, I even tanked GW and Scirocco for a good while when the puller got both. Even so we wound up retreating so we could just do one at a time.
I think on most of them I wound up using Hoarfrost at least once. My Hoarfrost is very far from perma, I don't even have Hasten, so it can be hard for me to use it more than once. I was getting extra DEF from an SoA, and I'm capped to NRG/NEG and SM/LE. I do remember that Black Scorpion gave me a really good smack right at the beginning of the battle, and Scirocco's tornadoes got me pretty good, and GW of course is tough, but they were all doable.
I'll see if I can find my build and post it, or look at yours, but I can't imagine I'm any different or better (no Hasten for me, no purples). Maybe the RNG was just not on your side.
EDIT: I should add that one of the AV's in the Aeon mission popped me like a bubble. I think it was Silent Blade. I was there, and then I was down. I still don't know what hit me.
I changed a few things on my build and just finished the STF. I did very well. Died once when GW got me with one of her holds. But tanked Scirroco, Mako, and BS at once while a brute handled GW's aggro. And died once against RL. After that, held his aggro while the team annhilated the towers than we wrecked him.
That being said, it was a complete team effort. Two defenders kept myself and everyone else healed very well. Couldn't have really done it without them. I'm no Stone tank but I was impressed with myself...for once.
Silent Blade isn't on that TF, but I'm betting it was Silver Mantis. I don't remember her having great def debuffs, but when I tanked her on Tues with my invuln she took me from just over the softcap down to about 12% def in nothing flat. Dull Pain and a big purple corrected the situation, but I was surprised none the less.

What kind of support was on the team? If there's an Emp and they're on their game, you shouldn't be dying much or at all. Since you're defense based, just make sure you're at 75% defense for Recluse and keep a bunch of oranges up.

With the red tower up, all tankers need insps or team support to keep that HP bar up, maintain that 75% defense mark, and have high levels of resists. Ice Armor just happens to need more in this particular situation.
Team support aside, there are things you can do:
1. Orange insps, the bigger the better. You can store more in your mailbox. Purples are handy too, but that depends on your team. On an Ice Armor you usually don't need nearly as many purples as you would oranges.
2. Wedding Band temporary power. Increases all your resistances by 30%. Gotten through the 20-24 Recover wedding band mission available in Ouroboros.
3. Kinetic Dampener temporary power. Increases your S/L def by 16% and your Energy Resistance by 30%. Dropped from mobs and cheaply available at the market.
4. Tough And Weave. I recommend you get those if you haven't.
5. Base Empowerment buffs. You can increase your resists by 5% here, and grant yourself some end drain resistance and a nice recharge buff.
6. Eye of the Magus temporary power. Gotten through the Archmage accolade.
7. Hover tank. I don't have any experience with this but I hear it can be effective. Basically keeping Recluse at range thus cutting his damage potential. Temp fly powers are abundant.
8. Aid Self. In the case your team heals are insufficient this can come in handy. This is a hefty power choice but it works well with Ice Armor.
Mains (Freedom) @Auroxis
Auroxis - Emp/Rad/Power Defender Pylon Video Soloing an AV
Pelvic Thunder - SS/Elec/Mu Brute
Sorajin - Elec/Nin Stalker
Neuropain - Sonic/Mental/Elec Blaster
While my Ice tanker is too young at 34 for the STF I have tanked it with my Shield/Fire. Admittedly Shield has better resists than Ice but the basic concept is the same.
Auroxis' grocery list is mostly accurate in my experience; the key is understanding what each tower does.
The Red tower gives LR a 105% damage buff and damage resistance
The Blue tower gives LR a 25% tohit buff, 400% recharge buff and power boost.
The Yellow (sometimes called Orange) gives him a massive defense buff.
The Green tower gives him a 3200+ hit point heal every 4 seconds and massive regeneration.
Because of the tohit buff in the Blue tower you need to be at 75% defense to soft cap until it dies, and that recharge boost lets him cycle his attacks much faster. The Red tower more than doubles his damage however so I always want it gone FIRST; keeping an extra 25% defense working isn't that hard if you're already at 45%.
Once the red and blue towers are gone from a tanker's point of view LR is down to a normal level 54 AV and MUCH less dangerous. Dealing with him with the towers up I try and have the following:
Minimum of 75% resist to S/L/E while the red tower's up and a few big greens for when he gets lucky.
75% defense to S/L/E while the blue tower's up
Once those two are down you're fine with 45% defense to S/L/E; I'd still try and keep a bare minimum of 50% resistance to those damage types for the entire time you're tanking LR.
By the way, LR's channelgun attack includes a hefty end drain so keep a few big blues on hand. I'm not sure if it's really feasible to tank him without assistance on an Ice; I don't know if you can keep enough inspirations for the job unless you have a really fast team. On my Shield I CAN manage with just inspirations if I'm lucky, but I prefer having at least some support.
Your ideal support would be a resistance buffer (Sonic, Thermal) and a defense buffer (FF, Cold). With those it would become MUCH easier, but you probably won't have both so plan on ways around it.
COH has just been murdered by NCSoft. http://www.change.org/petitions/ncso...city-of-heroes
I have an Ice Tank, alpha slotted with spiritual Radial. I got owned. The 4 AVS (GW, BS, Mako, Scirroco) destroyed me. I couldn't even keep the aggro of one before it wrecked me. I am softcapped and I even popped a couple of purples and oranges and was still getting destroyed...even through Hoarfrost. I am not a poor tanker. I've tanked ITF, LGTF, and lots of other arcs and gotten a lot of compliments and my tanking...so what's the issue? I've seen ice tanks dominate the STF before...Lost Marbles, I think that's his name, is awesome.
I'll post my build. Is it the build or do I just suck? (I would really appreciate constructive criticism here but if you feel the need to be insulting or mean, go for it.)
