Yup. I liked the characters on No Ordinary Family, particularly Chiklis, but the FX were sorely lacking.

Alphas wisely doesn't use anything that can't be done with a fairly built and fearless actor (and a good props department) and a half-decent After Effects cutter with a Bullet Time plugin.
  2. Heh. SOE would have called it a "New Game Experience".

Keanu was indeed in The Gift.

Yup, though it's not THAT much of a stretch as David Addison was quite badass when necessary... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5uAnQPEew4
  5. Speaking of Lee Majors, there's also a Fall Guy in the works. Given the need for a guy with a face like a leather bag of hammers to chase hot blondes, hoping against hope it's not Will Ferrell.
  6. Just a thought. What's the most extreme movie move you've seen an actor/actress pull to escape typecasting?

Brought to mind by everyone's favourite nerdbait love-to-hate Rob Pattinson. Who seems determined to ditch his sparklepony fangbanger fans. And what better way to alienate the precious emo-poppets than by appearing in a David Cronenberg movie? http://t.co/We9e24Or

    Other examples:

Scarlett Johannsen as Eileen Wuornos in Monster (terrifying total transformation)

Keanu's evil scheming redneck in A Simple Plan

Pretty much anything Johnny Depp did for the first 10 years after 21 Jump St

  7. trailer up at http://www.darkmillenniumonline.com/

Vigil's previous magnum opus was a neat little Zelda-meets-God Of War (well, Horseman-of-The-Apocalypse War) called Darksiders. Neat art and some unusual gameplay mechanics, but didn't have anything like the marketing budget to go big-league...

    Tintin?

I strongly recommend it (and, if you can find it, in 2D - think it's actually better without the IMAX gubbins).

The flick captures the spirit of the comic books while giving the characters more depth - literally. There's even a lovely cameo by Herge himself as a caricaturist at the start of the movie.

    Thoughts without spoilers:
    - Film isn't a straight adaptation - it welds together Secret Of The Unicorn with elements from Red Rackham's Treasure, Castafiore Emerald and Crab With The Golden Claws...

-... not to mention a few nods to Indy and POTC. Look out for some classic Spielbergian setups, particularly the market chase.

    - All the characters are fleshed out well without being too clunky: Tintin in particular is introduced as already successful (though broke).

    - If you don't fall in love with Snowy/Milou by the end of the movie, you're not human.

In short, rollicking swashbuckling adventury stuff with lush visuals and a pretty decent script. Go see.

PS: My local cinema chain, Odeon, introduced the flick with an ad for their loyalty Premiere card, with the tagline... "sign up now and you could win a fantastic family holiday to... Belgium."

Errrr... that's not the most exciting idea in the world, kids. Sorry. Like Star Trek giving away a holiday in Iowa because that's where Kirk comes from.

Dredd Online: wherein you attempt to scrape a living as a perp in MegaCity One until a GM tracks you down and shoots you, or sticks you in a Juve Cube. Which is the only thing your computer will load for the next TEN YEARS.

    Vampire Movies

If we're going into TV shows too:

Blood Ties: SHE'S an embittered ex-cop turned oddball PI. HE'S the vampiric, wisecracking illegitimate son of Henry VIII. THEY FIGHT CRIME...

...and it's a lot better than that sounds. Based on Tanya Huff's Blood books,it's got decent performances, a tight, knowing and frequently laugh-out-loud script in the manner of Castle, some nice spins on standard mythology and some rather excellent critters-of-the-week: including Danny "Machete" Trejo as a vengeful mummy with a penchant for bad TV and snack foods.

Moonlight: HE'S a hunky vampiric PI. SHE'S a TMZ... sorry, BuzzWire reporter with a nose for trouble. THEY FIGHT CRIME...

...and it does get better than that, despite a very shaky start indeed. Stars Alex O'Loughlin (currently treading water as McGarrett in Hawaii 5-O remake) and Sophia Myles (Thunderbirds, Spooks, Underworld) and takes a while to get sparking, but there's again some quite nice ideas and one-liners.
  15. Sonic Domination:
    1: Fast Riff (Minor Energy)
2: Power Chord (Medium Energy, Knockdown)
3: Townshend Smash (High Energy/Smash, Knockback)
    4: Whammy (Build Up)
    5: Hypnotic Solo (Minor/AoE/Immobilise)
    6: Power Slave (High/Hold)
    7: Summon Groupies (End Drain)
8: Thunder Struck (Single Target Extreme Smash/Elec)
9: Eruption (Summon AoE Fissure, High AoE Damage, Knockdown & Stun during power duration)

Damage can be increased through use of attacks timed to the ambient soundtrack or your iTunes/Rogues Radio feed. Compatible with Guitar Hero controller.

How about a Newsroom MMO? Investigation missions based on current stories, every mission timed, a gamble option for how much of the story you make up, phone hacking mini-puzzles, superhero seduction challenges...
  18. Not an issue for me,as I've never seen the need to be uberl33t - just here to enjoy a game.

Would cheerfully shell out, mind, if we could have customisable combat pets...

    - customise powers: pick two of first five powers from any ONE set (primary or secondary)

    - customise outfits and apply any costume piece you currently own. Scales would be changed to allow very small pets (eg: 1' to 2' high)

    - customised travel animation chosen from those you currently own (Steam Jump, Ninja Run, Beast Run)

    - limited summoning time (5 minutes)

    - LOOOOONG recharge time (1 hour)

Which would mean I could have Doomy The Doom Kitten running around after me doing Shadow Maul and Siphon Life
  19. Still here after six and a half years. May have times when I'll wander off for a bit, but always come home to Paragon.

Plus... the devs put Rocket Boards in. (*cough* alternate models like rocket bikes, colour tintable, or surfboard-style decals would be nice. But still... vehicles with fins. See, the devs do listen. I now expect Doom Kittens and Giant Mechanical Apes any day...)

On Twilight: let's not get into whether or not it's a "real" vampire movie, since there are no such things as vampires. (Though that might be what I want you to think).

It is, however, badly paced and scripted, with two pretty unappealing lead characters. Reminds me of the MopeyGoth "energy vampire" types who used to wallflower at clubs in my younger days, self-righteous and self-important in their self-loathing. Never apologise for (un)living: "sleep all day. Party all night. It's FUN to be a vampire."

"Do you know who I am?"
"Do you know who I am?"
"This is not a game of who are you. For I am Vader, Darth Vader, Lord Vader. I can kill you with a single thought."
    *pause*
"Well, you'll still need a tray."
"No, I will not need a tray. I do not need a tray to kill you. I can kill you without a tray, with the power of the Force, which is strong within me. Even though I could kill you with a tray if I so wished."
"No, the food is hot. You'll need a tray to put the food on."
"Oh, I see, the food is hot. I'm sorry, I did not realize."
