That kind of disappoints me, the general attitude I mean.

"New shiney, get new shiney, come on new shiney!"

"Erm...could you kind of...you know, take a breath, pause and make some of the legacy powersets up to snuff...I mean Forcefield just provides defense and more defense...which at high levels, especially with IOs and Incarnate buff powers, becomes rather useless..."

"No, don't care, look at the new shiney!"

Tweaking sets like Forcefield to be more relevant is low hanging fruit, not like they're making an entire new powerset.

I'm still on the fence about Freedom and this kind of fudges the deal towards not really liking, the attitude of 'new shiney!' has now really become the focus (it has been for quite some time, examples being the AE (developed, pushed and then given up on completely) and Cimerorea (promised more expansion beyond taskforce and the two contacts never showed up)) instead of tweaking, revamping and such alongside perhaps a slower push of everything shiney in peoples faces all the time to make a buck kind of attitude.

The Atlas park revamp only happened purely to rope in the Free2Play people, that's it. No other reason beyond that, despite complaints of the Atlas park/Galaxy/Mercy intro sucking for years, the only reason it got fixed was to draw in more punters.

From now on that's going to be the ONLY focus, drawing in more punters to pony up for things.

It's weird because I've actually begun playing a Free2Play model game most of the time now and...to be fair...I personally feel that they seem to be doing it a bit better than the CoH team will do.

However the free2play questing in that game is severly neutered compared to the Subscriber game (the number of quests available triples or even quadruples the moment you subscribe) which compared to CoH where all but the signature story arcs and First Ward will be unavailable is quite the contrast.

That is one thing that actually pulled me into subscribing to a certain Paper and Pencil based MMO (which rather oddly, the MMO version is now more like the tabletop version while the latest edition of the tabletop version tries to be like an MMO...heh go figure).

There's something very every character to do.

High strength? You're needed to batter down doors, pull levers long since rusted shut and general be big guy about town.

High Dexterity? Usually means your a class which spots and disarms traps, picks locks on doors and chests.

High Wisdom or Intelligence? The world has wizards and clerics in it besides you, they've put up barriers to keep either you OUT or something else IN, you're required to open them.

High Charisma? You can usually get certain NPCs to do what you want without having to kick the schmitzel out of them first and get lower priced goods from vendors.

Each 'build' will, during an adventure series, have something that only they can unlock while other things that they can't. One adventure, in order to turn off all the traps actually requires a party to have a person with 18+ in each of those stats or you just power through the traps and get to work.

There's stuff beyond simply hitting things, though that is a big part of it, there's always something for you to do and all of it is optional OR just makes things easier, you don't have to disarm traps if you can time it right to dodge inbetween the swinging blades.

    Where's Wall-E?

now once again 67 is annoying me...I recognise it and have no ruddy idea why I recognise it.

Edit: Just realised why I recognise it..I had the TOY of that robot when I was a wee nipper of that robot but no freaking idea what it was based on.

It was later confirmed by a dev on the Eurogamer forums that character generation is infact in and that the pre-generated characters were purely for the demo.

    Where's Wall-E?

No the only robots from MST3K is Tom Servo (already identified), Crow and Gypsy aren't in there from what I can see and 142 doesn't look like Cambot.
  6. By that I mean.

    1) It has an artstyle similar to Ratchet and Clank.

    2) The cinematic trailer showed a similair vein of humour as Borderlands.

    3) MMO is...well..obvious really.

Best way I've heard it described is as if an MMO, Borderlands and Ratchet and Clank had a really interesting night and this was the resulting offspring.

    Where's Wall-E?

is it possible that 142 is Cambot from MST3K?

    Where's Wall-E?

Bah can't believe I didn't notice one of them, especially as it's regularly voted in the top 100 British adverts of all time!

95 is the Smash! robots from a very old British TV commercial for instant mash potatos.
    For mash get Smash!.

173 is really annoying me...because I recognise it but it seems to be from some distant memory of something I saw as a child.

Your basic server staff are probably doing round the clock shifts but they're there to just simply make sure the servers are running, usually servers are contracted out to a third party to look after (these sites usually house server banks from many different MMOs, this is especially the case where a game has server in the US and EU, the EU CoH servers were looked after by a third party) or in the case of NCsoft, probably all your games are house in one big server holding area.

So that means any actual work (I.E. bugfixes etc.) actually has to be done by the guys at Paragon studios, then dispatched off to the server warehouse, which brings the servers down, installs the update and then brings them back up.

This is often the case for the EU side of things, not sure if this is how it works now everything is in the US (for example the EU CoH would have maintenance at a sensible time for the EU, say 4-8am GMT but if it was a new Issue release, it would require the devs be in the office and thus a new issue was put out at 'American time'.)

    Where's Wall-E?

number 99 is the 'Cooker' robot from Wallace and Gromits grand day out.

Little Robot is actually a British TV (stop-animated) series aimed at the younger side of the audience, the Duplo figures are the 'action figures' for that series.

    Where's Wall-E?

Heh awesome it's got the petrol pump robot from Wallace and Gromits Grand Day out in there.
  13. Sadly there is that other problem as well.

Namely that the servers are based in America.

So what may be Prime time for Aussies (and more than often ends up being a significant chunk of Prime time play for EU residents) is the early hours/work hours in the US.

If it's a major issue (like emergency bug fixes that need to go out RIGHT NOW or the servers will end up dying a horrible explosive death...or just the release of a new Issue) then the devs themselves need to be in the office...and do YOU want to have to go into work at 2am when you don't normally start work until 8am?

    Didn't think so.

The globalisation and removal of restrictions (server list merger etc.) will suffer drawbacks like this, especially since NCsoftEU nolonger exists (which had its own GMs, Server staff, forum and moderators) both EU and Pacific players will suffer these outages because the servers and the server staff are located in America.

  15. Bots/Dark is a pretty nice combo actually.

However Bots is a slightly late bloomer in that everything comes together once you get your second upgrade at 32, your AoE goes through the roof!

Bots, Thugs and Demons are considered the top Mastermind Primarys.

Ninja suffers from being Melee centric and thus getting smacked around by AoEs but it can dish out some good Single Target DPS. Necromancy is a bit of a mix bag and probably the second pick behind Bots, Thugs and Demons. Mercenaries are bottom tier, it's rare to see anyone take them if you're looking to 'power game'.

Bots/Dark and Thugs/Dark are considered Giant Monster Soloers and Dark can do this without really requiring a lot of expensive IOs, if any.
  16. Wait...didn't a recently released team based FPS have this exact setting as their backdrop?

I've seen how that pans out...total sausagefest...I mean there wasn't one woman among the entire group of security of Resistance...going to be a boring place if you ask me.

Pretty much an admission that they're real, unless the dev be trollololololing us by putting them in their for their EVIL ways!
  18. Keep in mind what you see behind the War Walls is effectively 'outside' what the players know in Paragon, they're the designated safe zones, where 'stuff don't happen' and probably where the majority of the population live. They're not even the next zone, as you can see from the map there's a lot of city out there that doesn't require any hero/villain attention.

That or its a conspiracy where the parts we know of Paragon City aren't actually real and the War Walls are to keep the heroes in, the mobs are all actors who are paid to pretend to be 'defeated' (and teleport out when they do, why else do you think they disappear) all for the enjoyment of the rest of the world. It's a less deadly verison of the Running man TV show.

Heck server downtime is just them quickly switching in stuff, like when the Theme parks close for the winter for maintenance and building new rides.

Though there is still a bug in Peregrine that lets you get behind the war walls in Talos...there isn't much to see though, heck the buildings and ground aren't even solid!

A common term in the big Gorilla of the MMO world is to have raid content on 'farm' status. . It's used when the guild have basically nailed down the entire encounter OR have outgeared it completely, it's used primarily to gear up peoples alts.

Both the original iTrials are currently 'farm' status, enough people know how those two iTrials work that its easy enough to simply blow through them, which is why every new trial thats introduced in the current bracket (Lore, Destiny etc.) is going to have to compete with them and why Keyes isn't very popular and why (I predict) the Underground iTrial won't be very popular.

Why run those two when in the same amount of time you could probably run 2 of each of the Originals. the Undeground iTrial is especially long when compared to the originals, it takes 20 minutes (or atleast that's what it feels like) of slogging through ambushes just to get to the first boss. Compare that to the originals where you're already on the Siege fight or Marauder fight at that time.
  20. Congratulations people we managed to completely crash the store system including the vet rewards and the ability to claim anything from email

Definitely good thing we did this now and not when it went live.

I mean it's like puking on my screen from across the internetz.

And no, the video from the other link is not the word of god or whatever, either.
It's just heading in a better direction; not necessarily the best (all things being situational and all).
I did point out in the post that the link is originally in that LordKat basically argued semantics over what a Microtransaction was. He uses the definition used by companies then does a 'oh but if you're using the generic term...' as if 95% of gamers don't simply use the term 'Microtransaction' to mean exactly the same as Extra Credits uses the term for. It seemed like him being an (PANCAKE) for (PANCAKE) sake.

If there's one thing I can't stand its people arguing like that, the 'oh but the dictionary says this' line of arguement is always the easiest and most boring to use and wins only on technicality.

I will say that Extra Credits does edge into the 'naive' side of things sometimes but LordKat just came across as a proper (PANCAKE) in that rebuttal, there's a way to disagree with someone without being petty and whiney about it.

Edit: Seriously every single letter Mods...I could understand if the word was reduced to Pancake but that's just god damn annoying (and yes I did just editted it down to one word per censor, rather than having about eight of them replacing one word).
  23. Its weird that all my costume temp powers are automatically put in my tray and yet the starting origin temp upon character first entering the world and Rest at level 2 aren't.

I will point out that locking your team before queueing actually does do something.

It keeps everyone in the same team, without locking people are thrown randomly into teams as they get into the trial.

And yes I have experienced both non-locking and locking teams, every time the teams weren't locked, it ended up as a jumble of people once in the trial.
