spirit tree with a Panacea proc in it is very nice, even with no other slots. with enough global recharge you can get it down to around 60 seconds or less, enough to have one out for every mob if you're soloing at x8. it's very good for you and it's great for Audrey. and if you are on a team, good for your teammates also, esp in a prolonged AV fight for example.

Quote:Red Fortune --Mids' says recharge is 240 secs, maybe its different in Widow Training. It looks like it takes the recharge from Red Fortune too:
yes. my previous example was not meant to be exclusive. Mind Link accepts all IO sets in the category of Defense and ToHit Buff. Red Fortune, Karma, LoTG, Kismet, GoTA, Serendipity; Encouraged Accuracy, Rectified Reticle, Adj. Targeting, and Gaussian's. any pieces from any of these sets that include /Recharge somewhere can affect Mind Link.
240 seconds --
there are indeed different versions of the power; and on a Fortunata it's 300. but that information does makes it pretty confusing. so if you're playing along at home, I went for absolute confirmation of everything on Live to save others the time & trouble...
On Live:
1) if you just type [Mind Link] in chat to check the details, it shows 4 minutes (240 seconds). this is the "Widow Teamwork," not "Fortunata Teamwork," but in my specific case, that 240 number is a very suspicious one ...
2) because on a 240 second timer, at my 163.75% global recharge, ML could be perma based on that alone (see formula in prev post).
3) so, i checked my own Mind Link: Detailed Info, directly right clicking on the power in my tray -- Recharge was listed at 2 mins, 33 seconds (153 seconds). NOTE: the fact that this is less than 240 seconds is confirmation already that the slotting is working -- Detailed Info does not calculate your Global Recharge bonuses.
but i continued, and tested the math, and the physical enhancements anyway--
4) plugging 153 seconds into the recharge formula does not match match up to a 240 second timer with numbers i've got. but a 300 second timer, with about 100% recharge slotted, would be about 150 seconds...
5) i used enhancement unslotters to pull all the IOs out of my Mind Link, and then checked the Detailed Info again -- recharge now listed at 5 minutes (300 seconds).
6) i put the IOs back in Mind Link: recharge now back to 2 mins, 33 seconds.
SUMMARY:
THINGS THAT BOOST RECHARGE IN MIND LINK--
mind link will benefit from recharge if it comes from Set IOs in the Defense and ToHit Buff categories. it will also benefit from global recharge bonuses.
THINGS THAT DO NOT AFFECT RECHARGE IN MIND LINK--
it cannot have common IO recharge slotted directly into it. it cannot benefit from alpha slot recharge bonuses. and it no longer benefits from the recharge component in a Membrane --but this was merely a unique and unfortunate consequence of how the hami-o exploits were fixed. it is not because mind link cannot benefit from recharge slotting in general. -
Quote:after a whole lot of DUHHHHHH it occurred to me this happened because ironyeti likely used a free temporary registration on the filedropper site... they only last for 7 days.I get a '502 bad gateway' error message on that page. Do we need a password or something?
the i22 version from that link is slightly out of date now anyway -- another update just came out including Staff Fighting and fixing some ATO stuff. so far i personally have not been able to get RogerWilco's update method to work for me, but i'm probably doing something wrong.
if anyone is having success updating correctly, and willing to put it up on another temporary registration, that would be great.
i thought about at least putting the version i have up into my public dropbox... but it has to be moved up and down one file at a time that way, which sucks.
netphenix pointed out that wetransfer doesn't require any registration and is also capable of moving the app as a complete package. however, the delivery system does require an e-mail address to complete, so that solution depends how comfortable you are sharing that information with someone here. -
Quote:this is not totally accurate.Mind Link actually doesn't get any recharge benefits from its own IOs. It does, however, take in all global recharge bonuses, [...] she's running something like 165% to global recharge.
it's true that Mind Link cannot accept recharge enhancements directly, such as SOs or Common IOs. and it's true that Membranes can no longer enhance recharge in Mind Link since the Hami-O changes. and it is also true that Alpha slots such as Spiritual and Agility will not increase the recharge of Mind Link. (the reason is tied to the fact that ML can't take recharge enhancements directly)
but -- the Defense and ToHit set IO pieces that ML can accept DO enhance its recharge, such as LoTG: Def/Rech, or Adj.Targeting: Recharge.
for example--consider my Fort who has perma-ML:
similar to your build, i have 163.75% global recharge--this includes Hasten's 70%. Mind Link has a base recharge of 300 seconds, and a duration of 90 seconds.
Arcanaville's formula to calculate recharge:
New Recharge = Original Recharge / (1+Recharge Buffs)
using only the global recharge of my Fort, Mind Link is not even close to perma--
new recharge = 300 / (1.6375 +1)
113.7 seconds = 300/2.6375
to achieve a recharge of 90 seconds or less, it takes a total of 233% recharge:
90 =300 /(X+1)
90*(X+1)=300
X+1 = 300/90
X+1 =3.33
X=2.33
in the absence of more global recharge, the only way this can happen is for Mind Link to generate at least another 69% recharge internally. and since the 3.67 second cast time is so long, to really perma it you really need even more recharge than that. it works out to something like 247%... which means my Mind Link actually has to generate more than 83% recharge on its own.
that recharge is coming from the Def/Rech and ToHit/Rech set pieces. (edit: my build is actually slotted at more like 100% to compensate for the fact that hasten has about 2 seconds of downtime) -
thank you eric and necro for taking the time to confirm

there's been a recent thread from someone asking some of your same questions, have a look
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=287308
1) personally i like the ATO set in roots, including the ATO proc, and a Grav Anchor chance for hold.
2) having the achilles heel proc in everything is redundant, since it does not stack from the same caster. if you have it in more than one power there's more chances for it to hit overall, but once one of them hits, that's it. in a defense focused build you probably wont have room for more than 1 anyway, Fling Thorns is a good spot.
3) imho permadom should be your first goal, and defense second; having said that, permadom and 32.5% to S/L shouldn't be hard to get if you are using scorpion shield. -
Quote:thanks, it would be great to get your confirmation on this. i stripped my membranes out before the patch to use in my Emp anyway (fortitude), i'm not going to put them back in either way... but it would be great to know for sure if they are working.i would have to check again, but i checked when the patch first went live and it was still rech at i think the same rate, it still had like 75% rech enhancement or so from the LOTG def/rech and 2 membranes
what i had heard (could be wrong) was that even though the HO fix was only aimed at the debuff/buff style exploits, the way they physically solved the problem in the coding didn't address just that, but was more broadly based on the way the Alpha slots function -- that if a power could not accept a type of enhancement, the HO could no longer enhance that aspect. which, in an enzyme exploit situation, works perfectly as intended--the power does not accept defense debuff, so that aspect of the enzyme doesn't trigger anymore. because (again, based on what i hear/read that could be wrong) part of the reason the exploit could exist in the first place is because the buff and debuff values in the game are actually coded as the same type ... so that once that number goes into a power, the power has no way of knowing which number it is supposed to be(?) so it would have required a lot more changes to redefine all those values instead of just cutting things off this way(?)
if that's all true, in the case of the Membrane in ML, it would mean even though the recharge wasn't an exploit really, it falls victim to the way the solution was designed.
like i said, this all may be wrong, or from an earlier version of the patch that didn't make it to live, or something else... there has been so much discussion on the forums and everywhere else about it i may be remembering something wrong or conflating two different parts of unrelated material... etc.
so it would would be great to get confirmation on how exactly it is functioning from someone who still does have their Membranes slotted. thanks -
right. set IOs.
also worth mentioning, Agility and Spiritual Alpha powers will not boost the recharge of Mind Link either. for the same reason, that common recharge enhancements can't be directly slotted in the power.
so...back to the OP -- if Mind Link isn't already perma now with the 5% bonus from the Red Fortunes you've got in there, you have nothing to lose by ditching that bonus if you can make ML perma by changing the slotting. perma ML is much more important than having your attacks up 5% faster.
and like i said before, for one suggestion, the Adjusted Targeting recharge-only piece is the most recharge you can get out of one slot. it gives 42.4%, just like a common IO would, if you could slot it. -
Quote:they were perfect... but with the recent change to the way HOs function, I don't think the Membrane can actually boost ML recharge anymore. i replaced my membranes for this reason... but i am very willing to be proven wrong and shown i didn't have to.It would seem to me that Membrane HOs (and SHOs) have always been ideal for Mind Link. Thats what I use anyhow.
the way i understood it, the way the HO exploits were fixed is that HOs can no longer enhance a feature of the power that you couldn't slot for directly. so, since ML can't directly accept recharge enhancements, you should only be getting the ToHit and Defense out of the Membrane now. if your global recharge is high enough for ML to stay perma anyway, you may not notice any change. or, if your membranes are definitely still working i'd love to hear about it.
but ML can still benefit from recharge, as long as it comes from pieces in defense and tohit sets. -
for the most extra recharge to ML in a single slot, Adjusted Targeting has a recharge-only piece you can toss in...

sorry for resurrecting an older thread but i noticed there are others still asking this same question... so i'm posting wherever i see this concern to try and tie up the loose ends
it is possible to dual box on a Mac with the NC Launcher. here is how:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...6&postcount=15 -
sorry i didn't see this thread earlier -- you can absolutely run 2 instances on a mac, i dualbox on my macbook all the time. here's how:
you have to create a copy of the game client in a separate folder from wherever your original client is. you do not need a second copy of the NC Launcher. when you launch the 2nd instance each time you have to manually change the NC Launcher preferences so it selects your 2nd client, and not the one you already have open.
so, in my Applications folder i have
1) a folder called CoX, with City of Heroes in it
2) a sub-folder called CoX2, with a copy of City of Heroes in it
(important--the copy must still be called "City of Heroes". you can't modify the name. before the NC Launcher existed, when you could launch the app directly, you could just have two different clients in the same place named City of Heroes and City of Heroes_Copy. but the NC Launcher will not properly recognize any app with a modified name, which is why you have to put it in a different folder so there is a different path to it. )
to make the copy you right click on the City of Heroes application and select "Copy City of Heroes." then you just drag and drop it into the new folder.
to open the first instance, obviously just go ahead and log in as normal. i usually go into windowed mode once i get the first acct logged (command-enter)
to open a second instance:
1) open the NC Launcher again, but don't click "play now"
2) look to the menu on the left side of the launcher
3) under "Installed," there is a listing for "City of Heroes" that has a triangle next to it.
4) when you click the triangle, it expands the City of Heroes sub menu.
5) the last option is "Properties"--open it & you will be shown your "Install Location." this is the default client the launcher is accessing
6) click BROWSE
7) open your other folder, and select the other game client
8) you will get a pop up message "install path has been changed-- are you sure" click yes, you are sure
9) you will be returned to the Properties window, and you will see the Install Location has been changed
10) close the Properties window
11) click Play Now
this will successfully open a 2nd instance of the game for you.
unfortunately, you will have to go through this process manually every time you want to run 2 instances. but fortunately it only takes about 30 seconds.
i previously tried making a copy of the NC Launcher as well so that i could have one Launcher defaulted to each client... but that didn't work, both Launchers were just defaulting themselves to whichever instance I had open last.
hope this helps out. -
i was able to successfully download from that link last week ... but going back to it now i see the 502 error also
(also, THANK YOU for the update) -
quick $0.02 just based on personal experience with my plant/thorns --
Quote:i don't think the FF recharge proc can affect you from carrion creepers. since carrion creepers is a pseudo-pet that follows you around the map, the FF proc technically would affect the patch and not you... and the creepers can't actually benefit from the recharge.I know creepers loves the procs but I was pondering moving Force feedback into that skill. It offers a lot more "to hit" chances for the proc to fire off
Quote:This leaves me with a problem of where to put the ATO. Your build threw it in Roots....
the ATO proc adds +14% to global damage for about 10 seconds and it stacks up to 3 times...since roots recharges so fast it's not tough to get all 3 stacks, and consistently sustain at least 2. +42% dmg on all powers is like having Aim on all the time.
and as i recall, the dmg difference between the ATO set in roots and slotting it for damage with Posi's only takes it from about 50 to 70... since you're packing so much better damage in other places already, i like the ATO set there giving a longer immobilize to make sure everyone stays put in the creeper patch. also useful for keeping a spawn trapped around a corner when soloing ... like if the flytrap dies you can duck out of sight to resummon it without getting chased and without having to take that aggro.
other procs i like in this combo if you find yourself with a slot to spare here or there: coercive persuasion contagious confusion in seeds, achilles heel -res in fling thorns or thorn burst, expedient reinforcement/sovereign right +res for the flytrap... also imo Intuition Alpha is great with this combo since all the thorns attacks have a debuff. happy hunting! -
i did have a similar problem last month. but unlike yours, mine went away on its own...
it was during 2xp weekend -- clicking the PM market button on either of my accts would cause the exact same crash you experienced. however, mine wasn't getting "stuck" with the blank PM window open, so after restarting each time i could log back in properly. and since 2xp weekend, the problem hasn't resurfaced. so maybe it was due more to people bombing the market for xp boosters that weekend than anything on my end.
sorry i don't have any more more useful feedback for you. good luck getting this resolved, it sounds like a terrible PITA :-/ -
Quote:For my money, everything is already there. The enemy groups are hard enough on their own. Just have the big bad spawn with a hard group of 3 bosses and some change.
Blue Steel was a joke. Spawn him with a group of Kheldian Division PPD and it would have been harrowing.Quote:Best part is, it scales by itself based on team size and it's already in the game.
If you're on +0/1, you get like two or four minions; that's not going to ruin the game for lower-end players.
perfect example of Demon's suggestion is the Black Scorpion fight (even though he actually does spawn as an AV). standing toe to toe trading punches with BS was not the most interesting or difficult part of that fight, it was running around with him chasing me trying to clean out the multiple +2x8 Arachnos spawns surrounding him before the stacked up psi and debuffs got out of control. same thing with Diabolique to a lesser extent, she spawns with some bosses around her that make it a more interesting.
i agree that spawning Blue Steel with some Kheld PPDs would make the fight both more interesting and WAY harder than just upgrading him to an AV. and as Demon said those scale already with the team size/difficulty settings so there's no big changes needed.
the only thing that has bothered me so far was the Reichsman/Requiem fight ... i was expecting to fight both AVs at once, and they both spawned as EBs, which was confusing and disappointing since i had AVs turned on, and they are definitely AV level characters everywhere else in the game. so i don't know if that was just a glitch or what, but in any case, lvl 52 Reichsman would have sucked to solo anyway so maybe the game actually saved me there :-P
and i know this has all been said already in the other thread, but since there is no harder setting in the game than AV except lvl 57 AV and +levels to infinity and beyond, if we get an AV at the end of nearly every mission it makes it much less cool when you do spawn and defeat one. if everything is an AV, nothing is... for someone like Blue Steel, does he really need AV lvl difficulty? he used to be a regulator but he's just a normal person I think, so an incarnate smashing his face in makes sense to me. (though since Manti gets to be an AV/Hero elsewhere maybe this is a bad argument).
but the point is, however you feel about that aspect of it, i think Demon has come up with a very good and easy solution here. -
Quote:it is AWESOME. thank you so muchI built a wine wrapper today for current Mids' (1.953 issue 21). Because it is wine, it is pretty big (200M download and 500M unzipped), but it seems to work.

as far as i can tell, no on the purchasable version. if someone knows different please tell me cause I WANT IT!

Quote:i would LOVE to have this available as something we can unlock for permanent use with points or merits or as an accolade power or anything. i would even pay real money like an expansion pack to have this on my accounts. REAL MONEY. attn: devs-- microtransaction!! even if it were only available during TF/SF and not regular arcs that would be good enough for me.[*]The fast Mission Teleporter temp power... I'd buy this all the time, so nice to just go to a mission especially Blue side which could be quite a long way off.
a regularly available mission TPer with a short cooldown could revitalize the entire shadow shard, for example. which would be awesome, b/c i love it out there and not enough people want to do the TFs! (either that or just give faathim a cellphone finally geez)
shorter cooldown mission TPer could also help clear up confusion on TF/SF with side switchers and being in the "wrong" side ouro portal... it can "break" the TF occasionally by setting the mission in a place not all players can get to it: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=249538 -

the toon i wrote about lives on Guardian but I've got 13 toons on Pinnacle and do run there weekly ... plenty of good stories to tell from that side too! would be more than happy to write a tale for one of them also, contest or no :-) and i would love to see this thread continue! it's super fun to see the creativity of people and their character personalities...

Quote:i can vouch for this as i was on that very same TF ... it was HILARIOUS!! good times, good memories :-)Not to be directly included into my entry but just as a matter of fact, the event really did occur. Somehow, I managed to get Recluse stuck in the geometry on the STF my team and I were on. Funniest thing ever. The only thing fictional about it was my embellishment.

Excerpts from an Interview with Detective Selnum:
DESTROIKA’s never talked to me directly. But I overheard his voice, once. Once was enough. I’m glad he doesn’t talk to me now. I don’t even know for sure if he’s a he. But I’m afraid of him.
He knows we’re all afraid of him. Whenever something big goes over on the radio, he comes by the station. Lets himself in and just stares at me. Through that mask. That featureless, emotionless mask. It means stop whatever I’m doing and cough it up. I give him addresses, I give him leads. And he leaves whenever he wants to. He never talks to me. But I know he’s doing us a favor whenever he comes by. He’s mostly on our side, I think.
I mean, we’ve got crime on Peregrine Island, sure; but somewhere out there I hear the entire multi-verse is collapsing. If he doesn’t come around for a while, what can I do? He’s completely out of my jurisdiction. You can tell a rookie by how big their eyes get the first time they see him, but it’s only natural. Eight feet tall, some kinda huge fiery monster, and don’t get me started on those claws he calls legs. No one knows what he is. A demon? A dragon? Some kind of behemoth balrog? Not sure what that even means but Smith says it’s from Lord of the Rings.
All I know is he somehow controls fire. He can light you on fire with his hands, make a sword out of fire and cut you with it, I even heard he used to breathe fire. Can’t tell you how many pens and paperweights I’ve had to replace over the years, things just melt around him sometimes. But he also carries weapons. Nothing fancy, just sharp and painful. Shurikens that explode, caltrops to shred your tires, or your body; he even wraps his fists in barbed wire. I guess if he thinks the fire’s too painless for some reason he’ll just brawl you to death with those razor edges. I know he’s nasty. I know he’s violent. And I know he crosses a lot of lines that we don’t. But like I said, what am I gonna do? He’s outside my jurisdiction. I don't want him coming to punish me one day if I get on his bad side...
But the city loves him. He’s been awarded who knows how many medals of honor or badges of valor or whatever they give out these days. Rescued this, saved the world that… he never shows up for the ceremonies though, so who knows what happens to the hardware. Even got a tag in some fancy supergoup, maybe just to get off the radar. Now they take the publicity as a team. But whenever I see him he’s still going out alone. Johnson gave him a compliment once on earning some award and it really turned his head. He stood in the office door for an extra long time before he left and just stared. Then he stalked out, silent as always.
Last month we had a Carnival of Shadows problem. Debutantes, parties, kidnapping; all fairly basic as far as that scene goes. So I was surprised to see him when the call went out. You can’t really tell on account of the mask but I swear he seemed to smirk when I gave him the info. Something in his body language shifted, like he thinks the whole thing’s funny. Or he thinks they are. Or he just enjoys hurting people. Maybe even women. Those are people’s daughters out there, I said to him. DeVore’s the one you should be going after…these other girls don’t know what they’re doing. He didn’t say anything.
An hour later he showed back up at the station, and went straight to Johnson’s desk. He had a carnival mask with him. Half a mask. Covered in blood. He ripped down a police award for marksmanship and hung the mask on the wall in its place, the picture hook sticking out through one cracked eyehole.
Nobody said a word. Until HE broke the silence. I was halfway out of my desk chair when it hit me, that VOICE. It filled up the room; but it didn’t seem to come from him. It was like thirty different ventriloquists throwing their voices in from outside. From everywhere at once, from everywhere around him, without a source. Like the sound became a physical thing, thick, and slow, and crawling on me like I walked through a spider web. And I saw the sounds before I heard them. In my mind. I saw the voice. It was terrifying. Like a black and white filmstrip of an atom bomb test, and the shockwave pushing the dust clouds. Like watching a fault shift and turn into a mountain. It takes a billion years of violence to mangle the granite. But it never makes a sound. That was the voice. And he only said one thing.
“Just because I’m here, doesn’t make me a hero…”
