I believe I could make an effort to join up for this and help out. You know I have a variety of good stuff.
For now I'll put forth my Emp and you'll have to let me know if you need something else.
Dr Gemini @Dr Gemini
Empathy/Dark Defender
Assault/Maneuvers/Tactics/Vengeance
T4 Seers and T4 Polar Lights
T4 Clarion, Incandescence, and Rebirth
T4 Reactive or Cognitive (adds some Psi DoT)
T4 Support
I will make sure to acquire Ultimate inspirations before the trial.
Other character options I would offer up as options if you need them and are all built within specs closest to what you want (as in I wouldn't need much other prep than to adjust a couple things)
Emerald Scale
Ninja/Time Mastermind
Assault/Maneuvers/Tactics/Vengeance
T4 Nemesis (can build Seers)
T4 Clarion, Incandescence, Rebirth
T4 Reactive, Intuition, Agility
T4 Support Hybrid
Will obtain Achilles Heel for the slots that will take them
Those are the 2 characters immediately ready. I have Dark/Dark Troller, Elec/Kin troller, Plant/Nature, and Ice/Cold controller for other buff/debuff sets if you need any of those. -
Indeed. We will never know how good our good/bad builds could have been with the IO changes...
On my build, I don't think I really spent that much on mine... i think it might have crossed the 5 bil threshold when I started aiming for Panaceas (for the recharge bonus). But with the lack of powers in which to put any purples other than my pets, the cost of the build was rather small compared to what is invested in other characters.
Actually, I don't think the build is even worth 2 billion. And probably I spent another 3 bil over the life of the character due to various respecs and tweaks.
Honestly, Masterminds are so OP out of the box (IMHO) that IOs just make it worse. Then, if you throw 24 of them in the same league (like I eventually did), the carnage is just insane. -
Sadly, I will have to give up my Ninja/Time/Mace mastermind thanks to the goobers at NC Soft.
Since the game is going to die, I'll brag about him while I can...
I have...
Solo'd every possible AV/GM in the game that I can. I have seen him totally wreck face on most normal content when set for +4 and once I got that +3 shift the Incarnate content was fairly easy.
Why do I take Provoke? Simply put, Provoke is the one power that lets you truly abuse all of your self protection. With the use of Provoke, I have been able to solo a few of the less complicated AVs on maximum difficulty. Max difficulty AVs do tend to wipe out the pets since they have weaker defenses. So, using Provoke I could keep the attention of the AV, thus wasting his attacks on a target they can't hit (with Power Boost + Clarion Radial I could maintain defenses well over the defense cap) and what damage did get thru would be absorbed by Bodyguard... and immediately healed with Temporal Mending.
Toward the end, I had a full set of Overwhelming Power, Mastermind ATO, and Soulbound Allegiance for my pets.
With some planning, I could go through entire Hamidon raids without losing any pets or dying.
Point being my guy was really good and waiting on more new things to abuse. I probably would have eventually turned him into my badger even tho I don't really like to badge. -
The event was much fun and lots showed. Almost 5 full teams of Masterminds!
here are a couple pics to demonstrate how many showed after the shields came back up
-
This WILL still happen tomorrow. Perhaps we can still manage to crash an entire server before the end!
-
Well, for those who haven't heard, it appears that the game is on its last legs. It was sudden but I suppose everything has its time and CoH is coming to its end.
I would like to take a moment to thank everyone else for the friendship, fun, and good times. Heck, even when we had our bitter arguments, we still found a way to have fun in the end.
Also, I would like to thank all those who have regularly come out to support the various Hamidon Raids, Cathedral of Pain trials, Mother Ship raids, and all the other things I hosted. Some say that I am a great leader, but even the best leader is nothing without the support of those who I had the privilege to lead.
I will continue to host Raids, etc until the end. And, hope that somehow the game continues.
If the game does not continue, I intend to pick back up with Lord of the Rings Online which I actually left to return to CoH! I do have a trio of high-level characters on that game still so catching up shouldn't take too much effort. If anyone would like to play it with me (or currently plays it), feel free to PM me either here or in game and I will be happy to connect with you there.
Until the end happens, hope to at least see people playing at my raids if for nothing else than to give Hamidon and the Rikti hell before the world explodes! -
Quote:Edit: Anyone have a good response to this because my head will explode if I try...no you doing it "halfway" if you spread slots/skills too much around you have weak tank/buffs, weak attacks and weak debuffs.
just to get the tank and debuffs to a considerable level will leave just enough slots for pets and that's all. there no much room for getting and slotting personal attacks unless you sacrifice tank or debuffs strength.
that's my point i tried to explain. tough/weave have much more use then personal attacks.
yeah, so what? /sonic have no heals to heal you.
a build that can not compete without incarnates is a pitiful one.
well, the whole game is build around the idea to become "strong" within the game world. +0x1 isn't strong, it isn't a challenge.
i've killed enough AVs and GMs to see that base damage isn't enough to get the job done. even with bots -regen.
loooolzzzzz
get yourself spanked and drained by surgy and then praise further the invincibility of the bodyguard mode. or run after scrappy like hell without slows. -
Quote:Yes, you can do it all at the same time. I do it all at the same time on a regular basis. Granted, you have to allow for animation times and can't fire all of my powers at the same time.sure, but you can not do it all at the same time with the same build. you have to choose a winning strategy and stick with it.
In fact, my Ninja/Time/Scorpion build does it so well that some friends have made their own versions of my mastermind because they enjoy the power.
Quote:you can't survive if you don't have sufficient defense.
Not to mention you have Bodyguard which literally doubles (or triples) your total HP because the damage gets spread out to your pets.
Quote:you can't defeat strong enemies unless you have enough debuff tools. regeneration debuff being the most important.
that the reason why traps, time and dark are so popular.
It should also be mentioned that not everyone runs on +4 settings. Most people are content to run on +0 where you should be able to destroy anything with a little effort.
Quote:that's the point. may be you can drive an AV up the wall, but you can't kill it. no reg debuffs, no res debuffs. and regardless of defense they still hit your pets and kill them with one-two shots.
on other hand you can have certain skills that allow you to control an AV with one and single application. caltrops and lightning storm have magnitude 50 (!) fear. slow them on top of that and AVs will just run about forever doing nothing but bagging damage.
Over all, I think we can draw the conclusion that you really do not understand how to play Masterminds. If you did, you would not be spouting all the false premises that you are. You assume that certain things can't be done when many of us do them or have seen it done quite frequently. Like, you assume that without debuffs you can't kill an AV. -
Quote:The problem with this approach is that, while you certainly can be lazy at times, Masterminds are designed to be the kings (queens) of multi-tasking. You can attack, buff, heal, debuff, control, tank, AND never have any part of it interfere with your "attack chain".well, the whole point to play a mastermind is to be a lazy boss.
you standing around, doing *nearly* nothing and stuff got killed, uuhm, sorry, defeated.
the key in the gameplay of mastermind is to be a boss, to be active only and only if your mini team profit from it. that means buffs/debuffs.
so if you get bored with buffing sets then try debuffing one, that will require pro-active gameplay. i can recommend a few.
necro/dark/soul feels more a controller. tentacles+stare is a fake aoe hold. 2 true holds (elite bosses will like it), heals and other things. you'll be pretty busy playing it.
bots/storm is hard to master but very rewarding. for example put a damage proc in freezing rain and watch the numbers. new enhancements make tornado way less annoying. lightning storm not only do damage, but also "control" even an archvillain, its a mag 50 fear build in. and you can have 2 of them at the same time. and it is also a toggle drop.
Even on a Force Field Mastermind you could be using some of your powers to keep the tougher targets off their feet, against a wall, or even sequester them until you decide to deal with the threat. In fact, I've seen many /FF characters actively "sequester" many an Arch-villain.
If you aren't multitasking as a Mastermind, you are not active enough. -
Just a reminder this is next week! Prepare yourselves!
-
All I can say is that the wait to hit 50 and get tricked out is worth it for Masterminds. You will enjoy the power.
-
If it is Wind CONTROL then it will not be available to Masterminds or anyone other than Controllers and Dominators.
-
The CC went very well. Many good costumes and bios. Hope everyone had fun! Thanks to all my judges!
-
Updated location again and updated the prizes according to what the judges all approved of. We figured giving away HO's would be good since Hami Raids is what we do!
The point is for this to be fun and enjoyable. -
Updated with location = Rikti War Zone
Moving to RWZ to accommodate more people -
If I am available at all and not on the raids, I will try to help some. Not sure what toon I will pick.

Quote:The 5 controllers I've leveled over the course of this game beg to disagree with you. For reference, I have leveled... Mind/Storm, Dark/Dark, Ice/Emp, Ill/Emp, Elec/Kin, and Ice/Cold (guess that makes 6!)I've been playing this game since the begging too sport, I've been there just like ya'll. I'm not saying that Control isn't active defense, I'm saying it's folish to bank your survivability soley on your control instead of actually putting some in the build.
To a Controller (and Dominator), the ability to completely lock down an entire spawn IS as good (if not better) than any defenses you can bring to your build. Yes, extra defense/resist buffs help you survive the things that you miss. But, in my experience, most spawns are locked down so tightly that the threat is neutralized.
Let's take my Dark/Dark controller for example. Yes, I have powers like Fade and Soul Absorption to mitigate/regenerate. But, the overwhelming amount of Control and To Hit debuffs usually removes any real threat from the mob I'm engaging. Not to mention, I have several pets I can unleash that also have their own variety of Control/Debuff.
Then there is my Elec/Kin controller. My build focuses heavily on Endurance Drain as part of my controls. And of course I have that awesome Static Field which I have witnessed put even the strongest target to sleep. The mobs are usually held, slept, or have empty endurance bars. Not much threatening me.
And my Ice/Cold, well the vast number of AoE controls and attacks I have ensure that large groups are neutered pretty fast. The combo of Frostbite, Sleet, Frost Breath, and Ice Storm tends to take advantage of Containment nicely and wipe out anything less than a boss within a few seconds.
My Mind/Storm (currently being rebuilt) has the only threat of running out of endurance. If it's not dead, the mob is usually Slept, Feared, Held, or Confused... or running from my storms.
The Ill/Emp and Ice/Emp are a little less "offensive" of my stable of controllers but they still run with ample controls (or pets) to handle threats.
Now, if you are talking about Incarnate content... then, yes, there are some mobs there which are either immune or highly resistant to control effects. But, then again, Incarnate Content (the trials) was never meant to be soloed.
My overall point is that a controlled mob isn't shooting at you or is unable to harm you in any significant way. -
Hello everyone! I am one of the hosts of Freedom's best raiding-related channel's... Freedom Hami Raids. Yes, we are the ones who host regular events on the weekends involving Cathedral of Pain, Hamidon Raids, Mother Ship Raids, and a variety of other events.
Well, the time has come for your raid hosts to give something back to the community and say "THANK YOU" for coming out and being part of such an awesome schedule of events.
We, seriously, could not have such great events without a great group of people who show up and make the victories so easy! Yes, we encounter a variety of problems and discouraging situations. But, everyone who shows up tends to be great at pulling together and overcoming the odds!
So, on Saturday, August 25 @ 8:00 PM Eastern, the moderators, hosts, and a few of our regular team leaders are going to play host to a massive Costume Contest!
What are the Rules of this CC?
The only rule is that you bring your best digs and show them off!
Are there any categories?
Yes! We will be judging a variety of aspects. There will be awards for...
- Best overall costume
- Worst overall costume
- Least amount of clothing used
- Most amount of clothing used
- Best Character Bio
- Worst Character Bio
- Character Bio that best matches your character
- Character Bio that least matches your character
What are the prizes?
Prizes will be many and given away frequently! We will have a variety of "door" prizes for our judges and volunteers to give away throughout the event. But, there will be some big prizes involved!
To name a few of the bigger prizes
1st place in category = 1 Membrane or Cytoskeleton HO
2nd place in category = 1 Nucleolus or Golgi
3rd place in category = 1 Centriole, Peroxisome or Lysosome
Other prizes may be included at the discretion of our judges and volunteers. They may include anything from their stash of prizes.
Location???
Rikti War Zone Co-Op so everyone can participate. We will gather somewhere in the Vanguard compound.
Good luck to all who come out!
Note: Additional volunteers and prizes are certainly welcome. Please contact @Dr Gemini if you would like to offer assistance in some way. -
Quote:I am wondering about this, myself, as I have experienced tremendous success with my Dark/Dark controller. Granted, mine is currently IO'd and super-mega incarnate. But, I have never really experienced any trouble beyond what "squishy" ATs usually have. Even then, I usually have the mobs so locked down and debuffed that even +4 settings aren't threatening.Tonight I tried to duo on my level 49 dark/dark controller with a SG member the daily 'Phram'. The dark/dark combo is a total wreck, completely ineffective with the new content. I really dislike the upper level play, and I am leaning towards this being the highest level character I have deleted. I really resent the time I put into this character it was fun until about level 45 with all the miss, resist, and unaffected b.s.
If you like, I can share my build with you and see if some adjustments wouldn't hurt. -
My over all advice to anyone making a Mastermind is pretty much the same...
Masterminds (IMHO) are the best over all archetype in the game due to the fact that they wield an incredible amount of damage, buff/debuff, control, and tanking all in one character. And, you can do all of it at the same time without needing to sacrifice anything.
In view of that, any Primary/Secondary can combine well. So, it is up to you to make the combo work the way you want it.
However, if you are wanting to experience the power of Masterminds in a way that is fairly easy, I would suggest picking Time Manipulation as your secondary set. Time Manipulation is a good all-around set that isn't complicated.
And, the best way to envision a Mastermind is to think of yourself as a 7-man team. Your 6 pets are the Blasters/Scrappers with the Tier 3 pet being a mini Dominator. You, the 7th person, are the Defender/Tank part of the equation having access to excellent buffs/debuffs/controls and if you make Provoke part of your build you can act as the tank (your defenses are a lot sturdier than you think especially if you can abuse bodyguard mode which Provoke lets you do easily).
Other than that, Masterminds become a bit "auto-pilot" once you get used to handling them.
Oh, and you should look in the Mastermind guides for the Numpad pet controls. Those binds will help a lot. -
What I am seeking is confirmation that the numbers that display from Assault are actually applying. The couple times I have tried using it I did not notice any significant increase in the kill speed of my henchmen.
-
See the problem with your test though is it doesn't confirm whether or not the effects that do trigger from the pets are actually applying correctly.
Still, the fact that the pets will only pick up the effects if you summon them while Hybrid is active is a problem. It forces you into a mode of hoping that none of your pets die while Hybrid is off or they won't gain the effect. This pretty much forces a Mastermind to only build Support or Melee. And, frankly, considering that Masterminds already usually pick Leadership, I would think Assault or Control hybrids would be better choices so as to either boost your pet damage significantly for 2 minutes OR use Control Hybrid to add additional control effects.
By the way, I have seen Control Hybird (Core/Left side) work for my Dark/Dark controller's pets. But, again, they only trigger if I've summoned my pets while Control is running.
Again, the problem is you can't use Control/Assault unless you are willing to put up with 2 whole minutes of not resummoning pets. Even then, it is unclear if those effects are applying correctly. -
Hey all!
The Mastermind Sunday event is still running strong on Freedom. Today we did MO BAF, MO Lambda, and Minds of Mayhem (iTrials).
For those who don't know, I run this group Sundays @ 3:00 PM Eastern. Our goal is simply to run several incarnate trials with as many Masterminds as will turn out. We only need 12 people to rock (minimum) and have had as many as 24! We have run every trial now at least once and decimated everything!
And, for a little something to make you smile about the fun things we have seen or done together, I leave you with this pic...
Jurassik decided to take over as Godzilla for today. -
Yes. As it stands now, only the pets you summon while the toggle is running will gain the effects. And, they will gain the effect every time you use it. But, any pets summoned normally will not gain the effect.
