Rent_ LOL Donna. Why are you agreeing with your own ideas?
[/ QUOTE ]
I was answering all the other quoted boxes, didnt know what to write next to the ones he agreed with, xD ha ha
[ QUOTE ]
Fahie A time limit may assist on this. Still don't like the idea personally as it's very easy to abuse, rather than being difficult.
[/ QUOTE ]
If the Zones become busy enough a time limit is probably the best way to go < --- look Rent I did it again :P
[ QUOTE ]
But it's having a similar effect to DR. It's exactly the same as nerfing those with earned sets as you are narrowing the gap between the non-slotted/purpled toons.
[/ QUOTE ]
But narrowing the gap for newb pvprs answers the time old complaint of why non IOd toons dont try Zonal PvP . Its narrowing the gap for those select few that is needed as they grow in experience and gain IOs and Rep they will loose the Elusivity bonus and become a part of the community,,, its like an introduction scheme.
[ QUOTE ]
Disregarding whether or not prices are too high ( a different conversation ), this idea is changing the whole principle of IO's. A couple of major problems; 1) non-pvpers will complain that they have to buy IO's from other players whereas pvp'ers can buy them with earned XP leading to 2) PVE'rs ( the core of the game in all honesty ) will then demand a similar thing in PVE. I cannot see this happening.
[/ QUOTE ]
1)Non pvpers are the ones that we want to encourage to try it where else is this busy pvp community going to come from, getting IOs from PvP is an incentive for PvErs to try something new.
2) There is a similar thing in PVE Merits. Its primarily where the PvP-Xp idea came from . Reward for completing stuff the devs encourage notice you dont get merits from farming . Cause they dont encourage that. PvP-Xp is a way to encourage PvP.
I agree though, Roll back to i12 is a Start .
SOMEONE OUT THERE LISTEN TO US !!! -

[ QUOTE ]
1) Roll back the Majority of PvP to i12 ( including Diminishing Returns, Telelport Foe's phasing effect, healing suppression and movement suppression)
[/ QUOTE ]Agreed
[/ QUOTE ]
I think everyone agrees this is a no brainer 8)
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
2) Keep Toggle not dropping when mezzed change, only hostile toggles like Radiation Infectiona and HotFeet Etc.
[/ QUOTE ]Agreed
[/ QUOTE ]
Ditto
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
3) Add i13 Elusivity values to softer/squishier type toons to blance it out and give them a fighting chance, if i13 Elusivity value was say "10" and "0" was value before it was introduced then Archetypes should have the folling values.
[/ QUOTE ]Not agreed. This is merely moving the problem about, rather than solving it. And even if it were to happen, giving MM's the same as Blasters ?? You *have* heard of BG mode right ?
[/ QUOTE ]
This isn't moving a problem, this is an attempt to fill the zones with a variety of toons, instead of having an army of SS/WP cause it's the only thing that shows at the moment, The figures could obviously be amended its only a suggestion Im not a master of game mechanics but I was taking into account the lack of mobility MMs suffer from in BG mode and the susceptibility to TP foe.
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
4) Keep new Hold Res instead of Prot system.
[/ QUOTE ] Unsure about this atm. Will withhold judgement for the moment.
[/ QUOTE ]
Again this means that certain powers are not discounted in PvP
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Soooooo....
This brings us to, what seems to me to be one of the biggest issues, IO's Set bonuses Proc's and Set Bonuses.
1) Hardcore PvP'rs obviously don't want to give up their IO's they have worked so hard to get.
2) New Toons are scared of being defeated by the myth that is the allmighty Purpled IO warriors that lurk in Zones waiting for fresh meat to chew on.
So my suggestion is to change the pvp scoring system and how it is worked out.
Each IO should have a value, and therefore IO'd toons will have a "IO" rating.
[/ QUOTE ]How are you going to set up this rating system? Merely on rarity, or tier level, or average market price? I can't see any of the above working as each IO is worth different amounts on different toons. LOTG recharges are *essential* on my ill/rad. They're merely a nice bonus on my scrapper
[/ QUOTE ]
Perhaps it should be set up on set bonuses then its merely an Idea, I am pitching the concept not the figures
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
The reward for killing an enemy will be based on their Rating, which will be their current Rep(1-400) + IO rating minus that of your own Rep + Rating.
SO.....
if you kill a Purple IO'd Brute with 400 PvP Rep with a non IO'd Blaster with PvP rep of 1 you would gain alot more "PvP-Xp" than if that brute killed the blaster.
[/ QUOTE ]So .. you can farm pvp XP by having 2 toons, each with dual builds. One build purpled, one with nothing slotted. They then just keep switching builds between them to gain silly amounts of PVP-XP. This is completely exploitable. If you say that you count IO's in both builds, then you are penalising those with a purpled PVE build too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Everything is open to abuse, only thing I can suggest here is that you can only gain reward from 1 player you have defeated with say 15 30 mins, or we could have reward suppression.
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Infact!!!, what if 2 players rating were so far apart their Elusivity bonus increased against that toon, to give the non IO'd toon a better chance.
[/ QUOTE ] Huh? What? <rubs eyes and stares again> You *do* realise that you have just re-introduced DR to your plan?! It's exactly this "levelling of the field" and nerfing of sets that I thought you were trying to avoid!
[/ QUOTE ]
No no no, this is not DR, it doesnt nerf any toon, it simply means that a toon completely new to pvp would have a marginal advantage to aid in surviving long enough to enjoy it over a PvP veteran. Im trying to cover all complaints to why people avoid PvP.
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
"PvP-Xp" could be spendable at a PvP Store for IO's that are already valued.
Meaning that non IO'd toon would get the chance to become IO'd and already IO'd toons would have more of an insentive to attack other IO'd players over the newcomers.
[/ QUOTE ]Oh nononono! The ability to buy crafted IO's at anything other than WW will severely affect the WW market. Currently, you cannot buy set IO's ANYWHERE other than from WW ( i.e. drops ). Having any form of store will just overturn the whole IO system.
[/ QUOTE ]
The only effect that this would have on the WW markets would be to drop the price of IOs as they would also be available elsewhere this cannot be a bad thing, its something that is needed badly with single IOs now costing in excess of 100 Million Inf.
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Ofcourse i am open to critism and suggestions, but sureley this would give players the chance to get IO's in a more fun way than farming for hours.
And encourage people to try PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]I think the main problem with the above is that it is a complicated answer to a simple problem. Complicated answers generally have more flaws and more ways to break the system.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually since i12 I think its clear this is not a simple problem, if it were then im sure there would have been many simple answers as it stands a complex answer that covers all avenues seems most likely to succeed
[ QUOTE ]
PVP Balance does not mean PVP equality. It doesn't matter that Toon A is typically better than Toon B as long as Toon C is better than A.
As long as there is nothing that is "ubertoon", pvp will be balanced to a greater or lesser degree.
[/ QUOTE ]
this is a problem, for ages now PvP has been a huge game of Rock Paper Scissors attempting to move forward here :/
[ QUOTE ]
Yes, some kind of training zone where sets don't count will help people get into pvp without being mashed, but a whole PVP-XP system ... a bad idea in my book.
[/ QUOTE ]
It not a bad idea, for ages now people have craved PvP rewards, a reason to try it and a zone where sets dont count?? Dunno bout any purpled toons out there, but I would avoid it. Creating a faction in the PvP community, when the goal is to bring everyone together -
ok, so revised version...

So why not take the best of both worlds??
Here is my suggestion for PvP
1) Roll back the Majority of PvP to i12 ( including DR and TP Foe phase supression)
2) Keep Toggle not dropping change
3) Add i13 Elusivity ONLY to the non ideal PvP type toons to blance it out, Corruptors / Defenders / Controllers
4) Add i14 Elusivity to ONLY medium ideal PvP sets to balance it out, Stalkers / Scrappers / Dominators / Masterminds / Blasters
5) Remove Elusivity to Brutes and Tanks.
6) Keep new Hold Res instead of Prot system
7) Keep IO's available to all PvP toons.
8) Create PvP Goals and games, (eg)
- Capture the Flag (While u have the flag travel powers are inactive)
- Storm enemy base (Something in map disables the oppositions drones
More to come, but what you think??????? -

I honestly beleive that PvP [u]is[u] the CoX Endgame...
It's the next challenge,
Once you have mastered the mundane and you can PvE a predictable computer generated enemy over and over then PvP is the next step.
The enemy becomes challenging, tactical, unpredictable.
It's 1000% more fun and feeling you get from hunting down an opponent who will fight will all their skill to stay alive is fantastic when you strike the final blow >
So why on earth would people rather, kill hundreds of the same mobs over and over!! after 50 levels of that already just to get badges in your Bio that no-one ever looks at?!
To be honest I don't understand why players don't want to fight other players?!?! -
Oh yea Focus Chi, noticed this last night, made some more changes....
Went for Medicine pool purely to max Regen / Heal power.
Total heal bonus is now at 50%
and I have changed few other slota about, I now have Global Regeneration Rate without Instant Healing of 802% !!
Well happy :P -
Went for a new regen build, wanted high % of Global Heal bonus and High Regen with a good mix of Rech.
What does this look like for PvP ?

If you only have about 150 M to spend, could i suggest you go for Hammi's instead of sets?
You will probably notice them more, for eg, 6 slotted attack, 3x Dmg/Acc Hammi's 2xRech and 1xEnd-Red.
1x lvl 50 Io = about 42.5% Ench
So you would get 85% Recharge
and 42.5% End Reduc without loosing out on
99%Dmg + Acc.
This would probably be more cost effective way of spending your Inf.
Dmg/Acc Hammis are about 5 - 10 million atm, depending on how long you wanna wait to get them.
Hope this helps, when I am not at work I will do a build for you. -

Any chance of finding these red side?
I recently looked for them on Heroside, and WW had 50 bidders, 0 Forsale and last sale price was 60 Million...
So likely hood of me getting the 6 that I needed was, well, slim.. Coould always go for 4 seperate Def/Rech IO's. Would probably be easier to get, and whack a 5th slot in there if you have the space for another LotG+rech, if one of your Def/Rech is also LotG you get a nice 10%regen bonus for nothing -

The long and short of it is, the players who invested money will be annoyed if they don't get any benefits from their efforts, and the people who don't pvp will complain if they do (as they don't and will be at a disadvantage). It's lose/lose.
Just like the i13 and i14 changes' goals of getting the pve playerbase involved in pvp. It's my feeling that the cries of imbalance used by the pve community were just used as excuses not to pvp (or used as an excuse to avoid the measuring of e-[censored] associated with the act; a loss followed by blaming someone/thing else which we've all done), when the truth of the matter is that there were probably les than 100 people on the planet who weren't already pvping regularly that would consider it with the changes implemented. In my opinion the whims of the apathetic were catered to leaving everyone who actually cared about pvp worse not only for the loss of their enjoyable passtime, but the realisation that all their work IOing and practicing had been nullified, leaving only the people so ridiculously addicted to pvp that they would fight constantly in zones at level 1 if there were no better option.
You know I'd probably prefer it if a redname replied to this post saying "Nah we just did it for the lulz" as a reasonable excuse for ruining my passtime, rather than the truth, that the abstract hope that by completely rebooting powers numbers and mechanics to something that would be ridiculous if suggested for pve, they would get all the people moaning (for no other reason than having a good moan) about pvp being imba to get involved. Which was about as likely as it is for i12 pvp to come back. Which is a shame because that's exactly what I want.

Actually i can't agree with this more... very well put!
Devs attempt to overcome the objection given to them about why PvE community don't PvP, in turn pssing off everyone who does PvP and then find that the objection they "overcame" was not the real issue it was an excuse not to PvP.
It's like a salesman at your door trying to show you that the double glazing he's trying to punt doesn't cause Glare when your excuse was actuallty an attempt to get rid of him.
The devs changed their product, pssing off an existing customer base to try and attract the PvE community who in actual fact don't care for it anyway!!! -

I dont really want to force people into the arena and away from zones but atm people arent going to zones. Its just that I thought the option of suppressing global bonuses in arena would get more people to come along, that other wise wouldnt come because off this off put, if we arrange pvp nights in Pd like we used to have. They were fun I went there my first time with a level 30 dominator and I still had a laugh and it got me interested then in going to Sc and RV.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why don't people have the arranged PvP night in Zones?
That way you will get more people trying something new and possibly staying if they enjoyed themself.

You've missed the point Knightly. I don't mind particularly if people want to farm until their fingers bleed. But the main farming point for 50s should NOT be the starting zones.
The starting zones should be for new toons to form teams and do challanges. Not for 50s to spam broadcast looking for farms or bodies for farming. A newbies intro into the game really shouldn't be some Carnie map stuffed full of Headsmen with them auto-SKd and earning XP from standing at the doorway.

To be fair, it's not the 50's that are spamming farm me!

Well i get quite annoyed when I place an IO 10 million less that the previous times it has sold for a quick sale and the bloody thing still doesn't sell to any of the 20+ bidders....
I just think, cheeky bggrs ! -
Must admit i agree totally and i am a veteran farmer, but to me there is a huge difference that really winds me up that people don't seem to understand and this goes for all Altas noobie farm beggers,
LVL 50 = FARMING
LVL <50 = POWERLEVEL
Why do I get tells and blind invites from stupid lvl 3 characters with no vet rewards in their badge list saying come farm with us, or do you wanna farm??
if i wanted to farm i would not need the help of a lvl 3 blaster with flares, !!!!!!!!!!!!
May I make a suggestion to the devs.
AE = LVL 50's only!
Strange for me to say something like that but, it has gotten rediculous!
There was always a lowbie in PI trying their luck, but now its like there is nothing sacred, and if I get 1 more /t "farm team" ? from a toon that isn't high enough to even follow me round a map without help ima SCREAM -
[ QUOTE ]
Would you like to disable Global bonuses for pvp if it ment more people would get involved?
HELL NO!, WHY DO WE WANT LOADS OF PVP CHARACTERS ALL THE BLINKIN SAME, NOTHING TO MAKE YOU SPECIAL OVER THE OTHER CHARACTERS, IO'S ARE THERE SO THAT YOU CAN BETTER YOUR CHARACTER AFTER 50, AND THE WAY IN WHICH YOU SLOT YOUR TOON IS HOW THAT IS ACHIEVED... IT TAKES THOUGHT TO WORK OUT YOUR BUILD.
How about a new option in arena and leave zonal as it is?
I HATE ARENA, IT TAKES ZONAL PLAYERS AWAY FROM THE ZONES PVP SHOULD BE MORE COMMUNAL AND LESS PRIVATE? WE DON'T MEASURE THE ACTIVITY OF PVP BY ARENA MATCHES DO WE.
How about regulating the markets so the price of Ios dont fall out of the casual gamers reach?
AGREED, THERE SHOULD BE AN IO PRICE CAP, 30 ODD MILLION RATHER THAN 90 - 100 SOME PURPS ARE GOING FOR NOW.
Pvp is very expensive to get involved with as the amount of time it takes to :
1st - get a toon to 50
2nd Farming to get recipes influence so you can buy purple Ios
After reading Knight Stalkers goodbye post I have to agree it does make the game very monotones and I know I spent hours farming my Dom to get him to 50 and even more time farming for influence to the point that I got sick of it and left the game. Recently I re subscribed to see the MA, which is uber cool indeed!, I promised myself no more farming but as I want to get another pvp toon I found myself doing the same thing but to be honest I dont have the time or the patience to do it again.
Ios are a semi good idea in pvp they allow you to Pimp Your Player out, change him up a bit and maybe have an opportunity to play him in a new way and in theory this should have been a godsend for pvp but its having the opposite effect.
I think pvp is the natural extension of the game, for me anyway, after killing thousands and thousands of artificial mobs I want to fight a human controlled player before Ios you could walk into a zone and just play and probably lose your first few times but now your not just dealing with a more experienced players you have to deal with global bonuses that widen this gap even more and I think this puts a lot of people off the idea of playing it long term as they are not willing to put all that time into farming which I think is a requirement of pvp atm.
WHY ARE PEOPLE PUT OFF BY IO'D PVP TOONS?! IF EVERYONE GRABBED THEIR LVL 50 AND HEADED TO RV THERE WOULD BE ALOT MORE LESS IO'D TOONS THAT IO'D ONES, AND IT'S NOT 1 SEIDED, YOU WOULD HAVE NON IO + IO'D TOON ON EACH SIDE, YOU MAY EVEN GET AN IO'D EMP OR PAIN CORR TO HELP YOU
[/ QUOTE ]
Point is, PvP changes since i13 have put more people off that the aim of the changeds (to get people to try it) maybe the powers that be should stop putting the pve community above the pvp community and that way it would be a more attractive prospect to try it, Imagine if all the content in i15 was pure PvP content.
Hand up who would be tempted to have a look!? -
Now this has me in a predicament, as much as i'm your a friend and i'd like to support everything that you do i have not been as interested in pvp since i13 started. It just annoys me after a while, so much so that I have found myself running a few TF's since i14 and i have not yet entered a pvp zone because, well its ****'d.
So add me please @donna + @donna2
And i will try my best to make the most of it.
Hopefully castle will find his medication again and fix everything he screwed up. -
I'd like to give it a shot, so what secondary and epic would tie in well

I used to love attacking stalkers with throwing knives for the dot dmg and its fast recharge, unless thay had high defence it would hit pretty much all the time and stop them from hiding, was great fun chasing stalkers around... untill thay placated ofc.
but what i think is really funny is to keep pvping post i13
and seems as though i13 pvp changes will never be removed from zones i have canceled my sub, given all my inf away and deleted all my toons. just dont see the point in wasting any more money and time on a game i dont enjoy anymore.
[/ QUOTE ]
nice drastic change. So for you the whole game was only pvp the way it used to be?
[/ QUOTE ]
This was my feeling too until recently, some of us don't enjoy running around spamming very few buttons because its the only attacks you have while leveling, with no proper slotting fighting predictable mobs that are no challenge at all just mundane missions in twisty maps where you can get lost and spend 20 mins looking for a stupid glowie.
PvP to some people was the game.
PvE was just the delay in getting there.
Now PvP has been mutilated, it's a real shame and annoys alot of PvPer's. How would you like it if all the PvP changes effected PvE too?
See how much you'd moan then.
As for another comedy PvP moment, any time I TP'd a badge hunter out of base onto mines because they said something that enraged me more than anything else in game...."i'm not here to PvP"
