The only major problem with taking SR as a secondary is that there isn't any 'skippable' powers outside Quicken and Elude. And in both cases those are very, very good powers to have.
Dual Blades, in my experience, also required a good number of attacks taken as you want to be able to use 2 combos in the set. All in all this will leave very little room for extras.
Aid Self is, as mentioned, would be very helpful in the build. -
For advice I would replace the Pounding Slugfests with Mako's Bite Acc/Rech/End and Acc/Dam/Rech End. I know that drops the Regen a bit, but it also makes up for all of Kinetic Combat's failings.
Beyond that I cannot offer any real advice save to consider Cardiac to drive end use down a bit and lift up your resistances a bit along with your Weapon's attacks range. But hey, up to you in the end. -
Also, KM has a fair bit of knockdown as well, and a unique power boost power that can help you do some nice damage in a hurry.
I do wish they would make Repulsing Torrent knockDOWN not knockBACK though... -
-
Mind, it your going to slot Procs you might want to slot in a mixture of IOs that offer Accuracy, Endurance Reduction and Recharge to ensure you can use them as actual attacks.
-
The OTHER problem with Malta is their Sappers can suck the end out of you in seconds flat. Of course as long as they're the first things you target and wipe out they're little trouble.
-
Thought I'd add this build as well, just for reference. It's my PvP build, which is to say the build I started with but with the Gladiator's Armor +3% Defense IO slotted in. This allows me to remove Maneuvers and, with a little re-slotting (Taking out a Scirocco's Dervish, moving Obliteration from Slice to Headsplitter and filling Slice with Eradication) and getting Super Jump as a travel power. Dropping Maneuvers also lets me drop Cardiac Core as an Alpha and move on to Spiritual Core.
Of course in order to use it I need an IO that costs either a) 2 Billion Influence or, b) 30 Hero Merits.
Yeah... That's why I made a non-PvP build first. But anyways, here's the PvP version.

I see nothing that I can complain about in that build really.

S/L are the most heavily resisted types in the game. Sucks, but what can ya do?
Just keep going at it though, you can cut past anything in the game, given enough time. And support. And Insperations. And IO Sets. And temp powers. And... -
Spiritual Core offers Recharge at 45%, + Stun and Healing by 33%.
Spiritual Radial offers Recharge, Healing, Slow and Jump by 33% + To Hit Buff by 20%.
The Core is probably the best choice for you, in my own opinion. Yours and others may(will) vary. -
Quote:The medicine pool is there for the character concept. And as I don't have the Destiny Slot, I'm not going to bother until I can get it.I'd keep on Grant Cover, as it gives you Defense Debuff and Recharge Debuff Resist.
If this character is going to progress through the Incarnate abilities, I'd drop the Medicine Pool and instead pick the Destiny Incarnate power Rebirth. It can be upgraded to be a large area heal that also gives large amounts of Regeneration. You can even upgrade the power to be perma on the Regeneration. With those power picks and power slots freed up, you can focus on other aspects of your character.
I wouldn't skip out on Parry because there are enemies that have +Accuracy/+ToHit. To counter those situations a Broadsword/Shield Defense character can build up an incredible amount of Lethal/Melee Defense.
Use of Enzymes and Membranes in Active Defense is recommended for a higher end build, to give better Defense Debuff Resist. If you double-stack Active Defense, you should be very close to the cap that most (except to Base Defense) Defense debuffs should not affect you in any meaningful way.
Do you know what your attack chain will be? Perhaps you could switch over to the Spiritual Core Paragon Alpha ability to get you a good attack chain going.
If you'd like some ideas, although expensive, here is the build I have set for Valkyrior and Shadow Knight:Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.92
Attack chain would be Hack > Head Splitter > Hack > Disembowel. It probably has a gap in it, but it's a chain that I would be satisfied with for that build.

Also I have a second build for her if I can get the +3 Def PvP IO, which would let me drop Maneuvers and pick up Super Jump. The end cost will be low enough, then, that I can switch to Spiritual without worrying about End issues too much. -
I also had trouble installing Mids. In the end I tried installing it on my external hard drive, and it works just fine and dandy now. If you don't have an external hard drive maybe a data stick?
-
Okay, got a screen shot of her now for you. Mind, she doesn't have any of the ITF costume parts I want to finish the look at the moment.
-
Maybe sometime if I can...
Think of a Gold Silver Valkyrie Costume with the gloves, boots and belt at the non-wings setting, smallest Valkyrie shoulder pads and the Valkyrie cape. Has the helmet wings that are closer to the helm. Once I can do ITFs on her she'll have a gold and silver Rommy sword and a Roman shield, plus the faceplate swapped from Valkyrie to the larger roman one. -
Quote:Point. The damage / sec power graph, strangely enough, is exactly the wrong thing to look at if you want to understand how much DPS an attack contributes. I believe that stat includes the recharge time. You don't want to do that, because most most mid to high level builds, and probably many low level builds are not cycle time limited, but rather animation time limited.
But there are some peculiarities of the game engine that mean there's an irreducible delay between attacks, which we refer to as ArcanaTime. You want to account for those delays, adding them to the cast time of each attack to properly represent how much time that attack will actually take when used in a tight attack chain.
To do all that in Mids', in options, configuration, under effects & maths, select "Use AracanaTime for Animation Times". Once you've done that, you then look at Damage / Anim in the power stats graph. Slash is 43.45 DPS and Parry is 36.49 DPS. Close, but not as close as the damage / sec graph seems to indicate.
Looking on the Damage / Anim graph, you'll also see that your three big hitters are Head Splitter, Disembowel and Hack. Everything else is a long ways back from those. So if you can afford to go without Parry, you can do a lot more damage using just those three attacks. Specifically, the Head Splitter -> Hack -> Disembowel -> Hack chain, and with an Achilles' Heel in Hack, and ideally a Fury of the Gladiator in Head Splitter. That takes a lot of recharge, though.
Slash is still the 4th strongest attack, and can be used in a chain for lower recharge build, I would think. Or at least take Parry's place in a chain, more or less.
Still, in the end it doesn't change that Parry or no Parry is based on the player and his/her toon. -
I feel like an idiot...
Phalanx Fighting was turned off and I never noticed... >.<
Well that means I overhauled the build a bit, moving slots about to boost a few other points since I didn't need as much excess defense. The purple sets are going to come VERY late, and are 'when I can'. Everything else mentioned ealrier still applies.

Quote:Checked it in Mids. If both are 6 slotted with Crushing Impact then the DPS is damn near identical, at least as far as the Damage/Sec Power Graph goes. Slash hits harder, but Parry still recharges faster. Not strictly true: Parry recharges a lot faster than slash. So by swapping those you may end up breaking your attack chain. When you're only talking a 7.5 dpsa gain from the switch and doing something around 71 dpsa base, if it introduces (slightly less than) a tenth of a second gap you've gained no ground (actually, lost ground: slash costs more end and doesn't grant you defense -- even if in 99% of the cases the def would be wasted).
Note: didn't do the math to see if I could get slash recharging fast enough to be equal to parry. You might be able to, but you might compromise set bonuses to do it.
Keep in mind, however, that Slash does Defense Debuff. Stacked with the other Defense Debuffs in the set it makes it much easier to hit targets.
In the end, however, it comes down to the player. If the player can reach 45/45/45 all around they don't need Parry and never need fear the RNG screwing them over or need to land blows to softcap melee.
On the other hand, Parry is accurate and by level 50 you probably have it at or near Acc cap, plus Accuracy bonuses from sets. If you only need to get melee to 30% as opposed to 45% that means you can use sets with other useful bonuses as opposed to jamming in more melee defense.
I favor the 'softcap without Parry' approach, but can't fault the 'softcap with parry' approach either. Each has a benefit and a downfall.
But hey, long as you have fun, right? -
I'm more in favour of going 45/45/45 at 50, and making it so you don't need Parry to softcap. THAT BEING SAID, Parry is vital to get to 50 as it lets you softcap your defense with two hits in the early levels.
Whether you rely on Parry to softcap or not, however, is your choice in the end. -
Also if you have melee defense at 45% you can drop Parry for Slash and it's higher damage and defense debuff. It only works, however, if your melee is softcapped. Otherwise forget it, keep Parry.
-
I would also note that back before I understood exactly what defense DID (I was a noob at the time, for sure) I made a BS/SD and took him through Agent G's arc, solo. Three EBs in that arc, all beaten (After some trouble) by someone who didn't understand EXACTLY how their toon worked.
I deleted the toon eventually, but made a new BS/SD in his place. -
One other place that's not mentioned where having 50/50/50 is better is the Statesman Task Force against Lord Recluse. Softcap against him is, IIRC 70-75% defense. However you either need purples or buffs from your teammates to GET that high a defense, and when all those are factored in the extra 5% over the normal softcap is liable to be useless.
