Quote:Actually, this week marks the end of the pilot program, so there won't be a Freebie Friday promotion next week. When and if Paragon decides to make it a permanent thing sometime in the future, they'll announce it.But, in any event, you can log in at 10 or 11 pm EST Thursday, and get it then. Make a note of it for next week.
Quote:(Before you ask - the reason that it ends when it does is that, since it's still in its trial phase, someone has to turn it on and off manually, and they don't want to force people to go in on the weekend just to turn it off. So it starts at the end of their work day on Thursday, and ends at the end of their work day on Friday)

The list of possibilities for redside is, unfortunately, woefully short (what, five strike forces and three respecs, not counting co-op stuff?). And that leads to this problem coming up for both sides.
The biggest part of it, I think, is the attempt at symmetry. They make a certain thing the WST for villains, and they want to have something in the same level range for heroes. And with villains having so few options, it causes a lot of repetition on both sides as they try to keep things "even." Dropping that approach and just picking one for each side, level equality be damned, might not help redside find more variety, but it would certainly help blue. And some is better than none, I guess.
Also, for some reason it seems they're almost totally unwilling to make anything below level 20+ a WST. Has Synapse ever been the WST? I can't think of an occasion, offhand. It's been forever since either Positron TF was the WST either -- was that right after the revised version went live? To be honest, I'm kind of shocked to see the Penny Yin TF on the list, and I don't think it would be if not for it being brand-new. (This artificially-imposed limitation cuts the already-short redside list down by about a quarter, by the way.)
Of course, none of this explains why it's not the LGTF or ITF more often. In the case of the ITF, I can only assume it's because that one doesn't need any "help" -- people run it a lot anyway. -
Quote:Nobody can name traps, just pets you can actually issue commands to. So MM primary pets and, apparently, Lore pets.Wait MMs can name their lores? Really? I know my demon/traps can't name the trap pets.
EDIT: OMG OMG OMG IT WORKS!!! Mother of Invention's robots Edison, Marconi, Wright, Gutenberg, Graham Bell and Oppenheimer have officially been joined by Da Vinci and Turing! -
-
I actually really like "Bells" and "Whistles," specifically because it doesn't fit exactly with the others. Your "real" robots are all permanent pets. Your Lore pets are temporary. They're only around for a few minutes, and only when you really need them. They're extras. Non-standard features. Add-ons. Bells and Whistles.
Also...
ARE YOU SERIOUS MASTERMINDS CAN NAME THEIR LORE PETS OMG OMG OMG NOW I GET TO NAME MY MM'S ROBOT DRONES TOO OMG!!!
Okay, I'm better now. Just had to get that out. -
I have to say, I love this idea (and the idea of someone's supergroup running around in something I came up with). I've got some ideas worked out already. Man, I never realized how many of my favorite pieces aren't available to everyone. "wow, this looks great, and -- oh, those gloves are from a booster I bought, and that texture is only free to VIPs..."
In the interest of giving myself some time to tweak, and more than that, in the interest of waiting until the last minute on purpose like bidding on an eBay auction, I won't be posting mine until the last minute, like bidding on an eBay auction. -
When I'm leveling, I always have a Combat Attributes window open showing at least XP to next level, Debt, and Influence (often defenses or damage bonus or something too depending on the character). Upon hitting 50, the first thing I do is stop displaying XP to next level and debt, and start tracking level shift instead.

Quote:Mine too, because I can use it over and over and over (though I admit I probably won't because it's a very specific item) without it disappearing. On the other hand. My personal favorite was the Princess Hat.
Quote:I got a tweet saying this was the final Freebie Friday. Not sure if that's forever, or just temporarily.
Now they'll look over data, crunch numbers, and figure out whether to bring it back permanently, and if so, exactly how and what changes to make (like, for example, making the "Friday" part a little more obvious to the largest segments of the player base). These past few freebies have been mostly for data-gathering purposes. -
I think we've all been there: You're on a team, and everything's going great, then suddenly you mapserve or crash or DC on a load screen. And you come right back, but... you can't remember the names of anybody on your team. I don't know about you, but it's not like I write that kind of thing down every time I join a PUG.
So here's the idea: we know the game can create local .txt files -- that's how it stores costumes, and unpublished Mission Architect files, and the order of your characters on the selection screen. So how about having it create a text file with a list of people's names when you join their team? As people are added, their names could be added to the list. As they quit, they're deleted. When you log out, it gets wiped clean. And if you crash or otherwise exit the game without actually quitting, since you never quit/logged out, the file would still be there untouched. And you could pull it up with a slash command (/lastteam) once you load back in so you can send a /tell to someone and re-join. -
Quote:Now why on Earth would anyone have a reaction like that? They all wound up in the game at the same time (Issue 20ish I think), so I think they were thinking they'd get to them eventually. But then people didn't respond very well to having more currencies than there are flavors of Kool-Aid.

Quote:I don't get my panties wound up over people calling characters "toons." Call them Frank if you want.
Anyway, my favorite character to play changes at least three or four times a day, but the ones I keep coming back to tend to be the ones that really feel powerful. Maybe not in terms of numbers, but watching what they do to enemies visually. So:
- Krakatua, my titan/fire brute. He had some endurance and survivability problems early on, but now he's past that and I'm having a blast. Nothing like opening a fight with Spring Attack -> Burn -> Build Momentum -> Whirling Smash to make you feel like a total bada... um, bad mother. In about two seconds, the enemies go from calmly standing around like nothing's wrong to dying in an eruption of smoke and fire and severed limbs, and when it clears, there's nothing left standing but a couple of lieutenants and me, already halfway through the animation for Arc of Destruction. Plus, he looks awesome, and that's important. Boring costume = bored me.
- Adamant Eve, my invuln/super strength tanker. Sure, it takes her a while to get through a group of enemies on her own, but most of them spend the whole fight on the ground from Foot Stomp, and even the ones that are fighting back aren't able to so much as scratch her shiny, chrome-plated finish. In non-incarnate-trial content, she simply can't be hurt, ever (as long as I take out the Sappers first).
- Star-Spangled Banner, my energy/energy blaster. Because sending the bad guys flying is about the most fun thing you can do in this game, despite what some people want you to think. You can have my knockback when you pry it from my cold, dead, energy-pompom-having hands.
- Mother of Invention, my robots/traps mastermind. Because I have an army of killer robots who follow my orders. Anything else is irrelevant. Except my Poison Trap, Acid Mortar, and the Interface with the confuse proc. It's just a chaotic haze of lasers and vomiting and people wandering around in a stupor... it's a Pink Floyd concert, is what it is.
- Dominators, just in general. I recently rediscovered them, and I've fallen in love all over again. I've got incredible controls, plus ranged attacks, plus melee attacks, and that's not even counting Domination or pets or ancillary pools. No matter what situation I'm in, there's an app for that. (Currently I'm obsessing over my earth/earth, plant/thorn, and gravity/energy doms, and as soon as I can find a name I love that isn't already taken on Virtue, I'll be giving ice/ice a try.)
*EDIT: I did a little reading, and I'm 90% sure I'll be going Ill/Dark here. I'll give it a shot once the servers come back up after maintenance. -
I want the Retro Sci-Fi pack.
I expect Night Ward, SSA2 and Chainmail/Leather, because I'm pretty sure it not being new market release day is the reason why SSA2 didn't go live when i23 did, and why only VIPs have the costume sets so far -- that's all being saved for Tuesday so as not to screw up the schedule or have to deal with all the "what do you mean, what I got with the new issue was this week's market release? That was five days ago" uproar. -

I think you mean, "Which hats beat top hats any day?"
And the answer is, "none -- top hats always come out on top."
Quote:Now, if someone was asking for the princess hat to be usable with the think tank, that might reach a 9.2.
Hairstyles, too. Think Tank + pompadour = awesome. -
Top hats are better than witch hats anyway. The top hat is like, the King of All Hats. The tuxedo of hats. The prime rib of hats. The Lexus of hats. Ask anyone. And by "anyone," I of course mean the Penguin, Willy Wonka, Uncle Sam, W.C. Fields, Mr. Peanut, Slash, Scrooge McDuck, Abe Lincoln, the Cat in the Hat (not a hat -- the hat. That should tell you all you need to know right there), the Mad Hatter, Michigan J. Frog, Winston Churchill, P.T. Barnum, or Uncle Pennybags from the Monopoly box.

Chinese as in, "a Chinese national?" Probably not. But based on her name alone, we can safely assume she's Chinese as in, "of Chinese descent." Or possibly Cambodian.

You mean like a Raspberry Beret?

So, after a single day of release, when most people doing it are unfamiliar with it and still learning the ropes, we're already declaring Magesterium impossible and a complete failure?
Give it three days, then tell me how many are failing.
This one, however, I'll give you. Encouraging us to run the new content is one thing, but to a point, it just being new content is enough to encourage us to run it. I'm sure this approach makes sense when viewed from the other end of some grand two-year plan with five separate AIXP-granting trials in the rotation, and maybe a few solo arcs that let players earn it too (HINT HINT, devs), but right now, with just the one? It's temporary bad design, but still bad design. -
She tried like forty of them, but all the good ones were taken by old never-activated trial accounts and people who haven't played since back before global handles were implemented in issue 4. So she had to improvise.

Quote:I don't recommend New Path. I've heard things.get more stuff make better do more better or make new go new path
However, while it doesn't matter what I think, I kinda have to tip my hat to any entity that can bring so much... integrity to evil. I mean, imagine this: a seemingly voluntary, privatized gulag which has managed to eliminate the meddling middlemen of public accountability and free will and wrap it up in a little bow and give it to the public like a gift. I mean, come on. This is...
...this is awe-inspiring stuff. -
Quote:Actually, this is fairly rare these days, even on Virtue. Costume contests have kind of fallen by the wayside now that there are actually things for level 50 characters to do will all that money. Plus, a 10 million inf grand prize simply doesn't line 'em up like it used to.If you are not there already.. Move your character to the Virtue server and head to Atlas Park. Spend your days hanging out under the statue of Atlas and run the occasional costume contest. lol I play on Virtue and this can actually become a full time job since THERE IS ALMOST ALWAYS A CC GOING IN ATLAS.
A couple of the bigger supergroups, the American Legion and Hero Dawn, run weekly, scheduled contests on Virtue with huge prizes and great turnouts, but the impromptu, single-player-run contest is largely a thing of the past. (And Hero Dawn moves their contests around from week to week. They've held them at the King's Row train station, the arena in Talos Island, the Peregrine Island Vanguard base, and that hidden rooftop atrium in Atlas Park, but they rarely, if ever, hold them under the Atlas statue.)
I kind of miss the old days of just lining up whoever happened to be around and offering prizes to the ones that looked the best. Once this Nemesis invasion dies down, maybe I'll see if I can revive the practice a bit.
