Possible, yes but IMHO not worth it. This not to dispute the value of Soft Cap defense but rather the need for it on Dark Armor. To achieve soft cap defense will likely require sacrificing signature Dark Armor powers and likely some of your primary.

I've found that 20% is a very noticeable improvement on your survivability. For Dark Armor I've been quite pleased with 25-30% defense. In the vast majority of fights, Dark Armor's tools will handle the rest. You just need to be leery of cascade failure.

    BS/DA set advice

I think most of the main points are covered here between response in both threads. I will add this tid bit of advice for players wanting to run CoF on a BS/DA build. Slot 3 Dampened Spirits and 3 Cloud Senses. Any three of each will do but I focus on Cloud Senses IOs that have accuracy and Dampend Spirit IOs that have endurance reduction. This will simultaneously increase CoF accuracy, reduce it's endurance cost, increase your over all Max endurance for greated endurance management, and increase the ToHit Debuff applied by CoF.

The majority of my Dark Armor builds (including DB/DA) use CoF, but this adds additional challenges to managing endurance. I personally feel CoF allows Death Shroud to do more of the work for you than OG allows. This does require pursuing +acc bonuses.

I also build all of my Dark Armor scrappers for 25-30%, which IMHO has a dramatic affect on my survivablity. My method for achieving this requires three sets of Blessing of the Zephyr in three travel pool powers. You could achieve the same amount of defense by other bonuses. How you chose to get them won't really change their effectivness. My choices allow me to pursue the +acc bonuses I need for CoF.

Is it worth keeping the power?
The usage of Hasten boils down to personal choice. You can replace Hasten with sufficient +recharge bonuses but some players like to have both. Just keep in mind, the faster you are attacking, the more endurance you are going burn.

Personally, I feel the endurance management techniques I have outlined negate any need for conserve power. Your experience may vary. You don't need to respec out of it just yet. Once you've gotten endurance management IOs in place, just take note of how often you still rely on Conserver Power. If feel you still need it, keep it. If you are not using it, well replace it with something you can use.

I'm somewhat surprised that you say increasing max endurance is such a huge help. It seems to me like it wouldn't have that big of an effect on your endurance over a long period of time. Why is it that max endurance increases are so helpful?
Werner covered this, but there is a more detailed explaination in my guide.
  4. Thanks for posting the build. Understand that everything I'm posting here is simply my opinion. I have a particular way I like to play and slot Dark Armor. They are not the only way to achieve a really good/fun build.

    The Good News:
You are actually in better shape than I thought. You could easily transition into an IO set build without respecing immediately. You do have some powers over slotted (Tough, Weave, Stamina,) and a couple underslotted (Hover, Blinding Feint), but I would not move the slots until you were closer to completing the build.

I suspect your survivability problems are tied to Dark Regeneration endurance costs and the lack of knockback protection. Hover can serve as a psuedo-KB protection power, but the resulting back flip will still slow you down. If you get hit with -fly your KB protection disappears entirely and you've now become the worlds deadliest ping pong ball. KBs mean less targets in DR range and more targets outside of OG room range.

Also keep in mind that while Hasten helps bring Conserve Power and Dark Regeneration up more quickly, the mild end crash also contributes to your endurance management challenges.

    The quasi-Bad News
You are not going to see a significant improvement in your characters performance without IOs. While you're SO build could be improved, the difference would not be noticeable. I call this quasi-bad news because even with very few IOs you will notice a dramatic difference in your characters performance. The steps I am listing below are the order which I think you will find most immediately noticeable.
    • Read my DM/DA guide. Sorry to do a self-plug here but the Dark Armor sections will explain the how and why of many of my suggestions below.
    • Purchase a KB protection IO. For now, just purchase 1 and place it in Hover. Blessing of the Zephyr are my preference for defense bonuses later, but they run 15-30 million. A cheaper alternative will be Steadfast (put it in Tough)or Karma's, typically 2-5 million. Get the lowest level KB protection IO you can find.
    • Place the following IOs in Dark Regeneration. ToE: PROC, Acc/end/healing, Acc/end/rech. ToN: Acc/end/rech. 2 from any heal set: heal/end/rech
    • If you have not already done so, earn Atlas Medallion and Portal Jockey accolades.
    • Place two Eradication IOs in Typhoon's Edge, Sweeping Strike, and 1K Cuts. Any two will do, but if using the damage PROCs is ideal.
    • Place a Miracle and Numina's Unique in Health
    • Place 4 Impervium Armors in DE,OS, MC, and Tough. (FYI, my final build use Tough as a mule and is barely slotted)

Hover is more costly than Combat Jumping. CJ give you the option to skip Cloak of Darkness or only use it when you actually need it. With out CJ you pretty need to run CoD to avoid getting immobilized.

Hover is a tad slow, this can be improved somewhat by basic flight enhancement but it will never be as fast as CJ. Slow Hover speed can be overcome by hover/fly binds but this means burning more endurance while using fly.

None of these concerns are unsurmountable, but if you are stuggling with endurance to start with, it doesn't help. Once IO Sets are added, these concerns are trivialized.

    Quote:
It depends on how expensive they all are. I'd like to IO him out completely eventually, but he'll probably have mostly SOs for a while. That particular enhancement is probably worth the investment early on though.
It would really help if you posted your current build. Purchasing and entire Dark Armor build at once will be rather expensive.

My DA builds employ multiple Zephyrs which immediately add 45-75 million to a build, I prefer to acquire these first. A cheaper alternative would be acquiring Steadfast or Karma KB protection. Theft of Essense: PROC, Miracle's Unique, and Numina's Unique are all very powerful tools for endurance management, but very expensive. You can achieve significant endurance management ease simply by add Max End bonuses via sets like Impervium Armor, Gift of the Ancient sets and/or Eradication. My final builds typically employ all of these techniques.

Although I'm not sure how relevant this question is to my issue, I was pretty well informed of how well different powersets fared as far as endurance issues, but I persisted with the character anyway because I love his concept. I just didn't realize how bad it would be.
If you like the character, I strongly recommend you stick with it. DB/DA can be a very strong build for both single target and AoE damage once you sort out endurance concerns and supplement some defense.

Seriously, it's a lot easier if you post your current build.

Didn't seen anyone say it, so I'll through out this piece of advice.

Join the global channels. It's basically how teams are formed and information is disseminated.
    • The Main Victory Channels are:
    • Victory Forum (you'll get auto silenced when you join but a mod will un-silenced you soon enough.)
    • Victory Badges (this may bee too full to join)
    • Victory Badges 2009(basically created because VB was full, but it has it's own personality)

There are other channels, but you'll discover those on your own.
  9. For me, the scatter kills any benefit. Assuming it get ported over exactly, I'll be skipping the power. That stated, I will be including Oppressive Gloom on my Elec/DA scrapper, despite my heavily favoring CoF. While not as consistent, Thunder Strike does have a stun component that can stack with OG. I thought I recalled Lightning Rod having a chance to stun too, but I can't verify that ATM.

Interistingly enough, Electric Melee/Dark Armor does have the potential of being the most "control" type scrapper we have seen to date. Charged Brawl and Havoc Punch have chance to sleep. Both Thunder Strike and Lightning Rod have knockdowns. TS adds the stun. Combined with CoF and OG, this could be a rather interesting scrapper to play. I know the brute is blast.
  10. Was tempted to start another thread for this, but I'll drop it here.

I recall a time, maybe a year ago, when subscriber numbers for MMORPGs were readily accessible. There used to be few websites that tracked and ranked MMORPGs based on subscriber numbers, though there were limitations to ranking MMORPGs solely on subscriber numbers.

Today, finding subscriber numbers is REALLY difficult (unless someone knows a place I'm not looking). Even NCSoft no longer includes it in it's quarterly earnings reports. Have subscriber numbers become completely obsolete for evaluating MMORPGs?

Perhaps a drop was to diminutive an analogy. Compared to their flag ship games
Lineage I (23%) and Lineage II (31%), CoH (6%) comprises a rather small portion of NCsofts income. That's before accounting for Aion (34%) which hasn't even gone global yet.

I'm not saying CoH isn't profitable. It's clearly making money and like every good company, NCSoft will take ever dime it can earn. I was simply putting things in perspective regarding their earnings.

While NCSoft seems rather interested in CoH, it's never been a big part of it's earnings. Best I can tell, CoH has been profitable for NCSoft, but still just a drop in their financial income bucket.

Ditto on this. Just not sure if the OP is in a position to purchase expensive IOs such as the ToE PROC. The build can be managed with out it, though it's REALLY nice to have.
  15. While I understand some of the concerns this raises, I suspect this could become the single greatest quality of life improvement City of Heroes has ever seen. After playing several MMORPGs, I have yet to encounter one that makes teaming as easy as CoH does. They've now taken one of my favorite feature of this game, a feature the excelled it, and kicked up 3-4 notches.

On an IO build, this won't be a problem. On a generic IO/SO build it will present additional challenges but can be overcome.
  17. Selenir, do you have access to a hero planner? Are you able to post your build? That usually the fastest way to spot problems. The concerns you've raised are typically addressed by proper enhancement slotting.

For starters, are you on an IO set build or a generic SO/IO build? Can you afford an IO build?

Did you place 1 SOs worth of endurance reduction enhancement in all your attacks?

Nope. Mainly because there are REALLY big yellow jackets in my area ATM. When I felt with sting, I assumed it was one of these yellow jackets and ran way like a little girl. I manage not to scream, but upon seeing it was a wasp I looked around to see if anyone saw me. I fled the scene, mainly out of embarrassment.
  20. Only counting ATs I've roled on Victory.

    20 Scrappers
    4 Tankers
    3 Defenders
    3 Brutes
    1 Blaster
    1 Controller
    1 Corruptor
    1 Dom
    1 Veat
1 MM (on a different server to be moved eventually)
    0 Khelds (I've deleted numerous)
    0 Stalkers (I've deleted numerous)
  21. Well basically I decide to do my spring cleaning...ok so I'm a tad bit late. I recently learned my current video card is on life support. If you don't know what a 7900GTX looks like on life support, I present the following evidence.

This means I need to buy a new one and since I'm too immature to clean the PC when I install the new card, I'm cleaning now, before it gets here.

Lucky for me, I bought a Cosmos 1010 when I built my new rig. Cleaning this thing is ridiculously easy. Filters on the fans are really good at keep the dust out.

I had so much extra time left over I went to the gym...and got STUNG BY A WASP on the way there.

  23. I didn't start this thread as some personal attack on Twitter or anyone who choses to use it. How you chose to waste your time is your business, I can assure you few would approve of all the means I undertake to waste mine.

The issue addressed was my perception that we were some how expected to follow Twitter to get direct input from the devs, something I am adamantly opposed to. I understand that some of the devs and members of the community chose Twitter. I understand and respect some of you chose to follow the devs and one another on Twitter. I chose not to and frankly could careless if you understand or respect that.

It has been indicated my perception was off, which in this case pleases me. For those that enjoy it, please continue to Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, or blog to your hearts content. I will not.

  25. Hard to believe this is the 4th time I've done this. Seems like it's been more frequent. Last year I decided a keyboard cannot functionally survive a third trip through the dishwasher. While structurally intact, it just didn't have the same oompf after round three. So this years is actually round one for this keyboard, and the process was actually easier and faster then it's predecessor. (incidentally, the said predecessor continues on as the keyboard for my old PC)

On the off chance that someone from Logitech is reading this, or one of you knows someone from Logitech please give them this message. Placing screws for the keyboard assembly underneath keys is not appreciated in the slightest. Especially keys that have those annoying clips, like the numpad plus sign...

Anyone wishing to attempt placing their keyboard in the dishwasher should have the following equipment:
    • a keyboard
    • a screwdriver...preferably phillips head...preferably the appropriate size
    • a dishwasher... preferably manufactured within the last 10 years...and an energy saver setting.
    • 20/20 vision or possess a visual to achieve 20/20...actually even if you have 20/20 an industrial magnifying glass would still be helpful.
    • enough money to run out an buy a new keyboard if you frak this up

If you actually attempt to place your keyboard in the dishwasher consider the following; anything a wire is attached to does not go into the dishwasher. If it looks like it will melt while in your hands too long, don't put it into the dishwasher.

If you've never considered placing your keyboard in the dishwasher or some other method of thoroughly cleaning your keyboard; FOR GOD SAKES wash your hands before eating or encountering the public.
