Yes... and no.
The reason that such language and capitalisation is being used is because of the frustration caused by apparent uncertainty. Does it help? Probably not, but it is human nature to... vent I think is the only word.
The other matter is you say your addendum was theoretical and probably unlikely yet it is possibly the whole crux of the issue. We do not know if that is unlikely or not and the only precedent there has been has been...pretty much our worst case scenario. It is the fear of that that people have responded to. I am sure it is obvious to pretty much everyone that inflamitory language is not going to help, but pointing that out will only serve to make people more frustrated.
I know it isn't particularly relevant to the discussion but I think I would also have to say that if I were made to 'start again' I doubt I would. I have played this game almost from the start and transferred across to the EU when the option was given and so far have had no cause to regret that decision. But if I were to lose my characters, influence, prestige, my base... I am not sure I would have the motivation to build it all up again. Further if we were simply given fresh US accounts without any additional purchases (e.g. GR/extra character slots/Booster packs)...
It is that sort of scenario we are contemplating. We are incredibly ill-informed about it but that is where the frustration comes from... we are ill-informed rather than mis-informed or even mis-interpriting information. A reassurance about the future SHOULD calm everyone down and stop the wave of frustration that is clearly being felt. -

I don't think the complaining has been 'I wanna buy it in a shop rather than download it' for the most part.
I may be wrong about this but I believe that the complaining is a cause of a fear that many EU subscribers have over the future of their game. For the purposes of this argument it can be seen that 'their' game is not City of Heroes/Villains but the EU iteration of City of Heroes/Villains. The future of CoX (abbreviated for convenience sake) is not in doubt, however there is speculation over the future of EU CoX.
Yes, if it has not been said officially then there is nothing concrete to base itself upon BUT (and this is a big but) if the situation carries on like this then it appears that the population in the EU can only decline.
There is no shelf presence for 'passing trade' to stumble upon.
Recent magazine articles direct you to the US servers (or at least describe them and fail to mention that EU exists).
These points are far from conclusive but you can see why the perceptions they create can cause fear (or at least worry).
If we were to follow your advice and not worry until a message is posted up somewhere official that the EU server are closed down due to diminishing numbers then it will (obviously) be too late. What we are asking for is some reassurance or at least ask that the implications are considered by those who are in a position to make these decisions. We do not know that these people are not already considering these implications but from our perspective it is safest to assume that they are not.
If they are, all well and good and all we are doing here is keeping the issue (or percieved issue if you prefer) current.
If they are not being considered and won't be until the point where a piece of paper is slipped to someone with figures showing that the EU servers are no longer economical then the likely action is to close them much like happened to the Korean servers. They were offered a few weeks free play on the US servers when theirs were closed. Far easier to do that than to try and work on merges or whatever. It is THIS prospect that has the EU worried and is the reason we are complaining to hopefully avoid this ever becoming a possibility. Once any decision is made and announced it is (usualy) too late to make them change it. If, however enough of a stink is kicked up about it before it becomes a critical issue then a better solution can (hopefully) be found.
I seem to have rambled a lot but I hope my point is at least vaguely clear.
We know that we can get GR over here but it is effectively preaching to the converted. New players cannot get GR unless they already know about CoX. New players cannot know about CoX unless it is out there somewhere shouting 'look at me, I may be 5 years old but I don't look it and I certainly have more to offer than any shiny new toy out there'.
The ideal situation is that the EU servers carry on with enough subsrcibers to be profitable and provide an enjoyable playing atmosphere for everyone in it. Should that not be the case we would like some reassurance that we are not just going to be told 'thanks for playing, why don't you start again over here'.
As far as I can see that is the issue and not just 'WAAAH, NO BOX'.

I went to a fabulous concert on Friday. Mozart's Oboe Concerto. Beautiful
I performed with a wind band in aid of Marie Curie on Saturday. Good fun if not quite so beautiful.
Now I am heading off to see Alice and Wonderland.
Real life has taken over this DXP weekend for me.
Oh, but in-game I did manage an early morning Synapse with a fabulous wee group of people. Was great fun. -

I have been using the pillar of ice and fire in my base to do just that. I have found it a lovely way to experience just the story arcs on my latest brute. So far I have completed everything from the first two brackets of the mission list and am really enjoying it!

There we were nearing the end of the third(?) mission of the Lady Grey Task Force when suddenly we got the 30 minute warning for maintenance.
Oh well, so much for this task force we thought, but then decided we would carry on and see how far we would get.
We steamed through Hami and charged to the AV room in the last misison. I barrelled off and destroyed the pylons while the rest of the team took on the honoree.
We had him down to 4020 health when we were kicked from the server.
Hopefully we will be able to reform after the maintenance and finish it properly.
Any other tales of impressive feats spurred on by imminant kickage for maintenance (yes, I know ours wasn't very impressive especially as we didn't QUITE complete it in time) -
I play almost exclusively on Union so a free server transfer would be pretty useless, yes?
Not at all, I just used the server transfer to change the name of a character I created just to try out the sets and so chose a pretty random name for, to one of my main names that I use for free. I am very happy with this outcome. -
