Quote:Yeah, this. Some fights against tougher enemies can be over after one knockdown/back.This I've noticed--enemies who get knocked down and ragdoll sometimes can't get up even when they have plenty of health left. They just lay there while I finish them off. It's especially noticeable if I'm using a power like repel or hurricane that frequently sends enemies flying.

Well, I can see how jumping in and knocking things down while you use the Dom holds and assault attacks could be pretty effective. Might try it on Beta to see how it works depending on how it affects my build.

Quote:I think a few things got kind of mixed up in people's heads. Some people have confused the basic concepts outlined in your post with the OP's question concerning moral obligations and morality in general.This. Bottom line folks just want to be able to go to the store and outright buy the costume pieces they want without getting stuck with buying any other useless crap (their words not mine).
For the ones stuck in the super packs, they can't. And they find that annoying.
They don't want a chance at their item, they don't want to gamble with real life cash that they may or may not get the item, they just want to be able to plop down money to outright buy it.
don't see what's confusing to understand here.
They are separate issues and were presented separately, so there really should be no confusion. -
WOC is my usual purple set holder. Synaptic kind of already has a contagious proc built in.

Level bumps for Dark toons would be nice right about now.

It would really be nice to see COX introduce a couple of new signature heroes. After hearing they were copying the kill the signature hero track that other comics have done to death, I was more than sure we were getting new sigs introduced into the game. Guess not.

I have a Thugs/Time beast AV killer. I would say that using Double Gang war has to be one of the most fun powers I have ever used in the game. Don't even talk about adding some Lore pets like the Cims, things become really tough on the enemy.

Quote:Me either. That's why I asked the OP why he was asking about morals and video games as I did not see the connection. And the colloquial sense is something that I don't think is specific enough for me to have a moral position on. If you ask me if I have a moral stance on being presented with the option to pay money for one or more prizes selected by random chance, I would say participating in such an offering or offering it to other people in and of itself connotes no moral question worthy of special recognition.
In general, I have ethical issues with deliberate deception with intent to defraud, but my definition of such is neither vague nor expansive, and no element of City of Heroes currently qualifies as such for me. -
Never considered it for a Dom, but have a couple of scrappers with it.

Quote:Let's try to respect mod13 and just say its a chance the same chance. I do recognize some ppl have a variety of positions about how they would use the SP paying or not etc..., but that was never my issue since that is a personal choice. Also just to be clear, I am not stuck on real money, that just happens to be part of how it is technically defined.I will never pay real money for super packs (I haven't yet spent any real money on points - all of my purchases have been with my stipend), but I will end up getting some. Would you call that gambling, too? Since you seem to be really stuck on the 'real money' part of it.

Quote:Frankly, this is all that was done.Colloquially, most people would probably call buying packs for a chance to get some random prize gambling.
This is an area in which I never comment on and stayed away from since I had no position regarding this kind of thing. -
Quote:Strictly speaking about Pulsar, they did make some kind of change that made them worth taking. I have it on my PB and it is pretty nice as part of a toolkit. This question has been burning in my mind for some time: Does anyone know why moves like Dark Pit, Pulsar, Heart of Darkness, etc., come with a base accuracy of only 0.80? Typically, moves like these are only mag 2, and since magnitude cannot be enhanced, you can only hope to stun minions and underlings with no other stacking effects. Plus, the base durations are generally on the short side, so it is hard for them to effectively be used as control. These moves are not worth taking for most characters, considering I do not see people using them that often and I have never found myself in a position to take one because there is usually a better or more useful move available. Am I missing something?
If not, I think moves like these warrant an reevaluation. -
Quote:Having played a Dark/Dark/Dark defender, its basically that minus the high hps. Basically it would be SERIOUSLY OP if it had the hps suggested. Some say its OP now.I would like an archetype who could be both a tank and a support play style. He would have a lot of hit points (lower than the tanker, but higher than the brute), the same level of melee damage as a tanker, but instead of a defense powerset, he would have a buff powerset to help himself and his allies. His inherent power should be a debuffing power with an area effect of 30 feet affecting all ennemies in it (called radiant hope).
As for the new powerset, I would like a dual melee weapons powerset, so that I can play a character who use claw and blade, claw and axe, claw and mace, axe and blade, axe and mace, two axes or two maces. This new powerset could be use with the new archetype previously mentionned. -
Quote:I have said it was gambling because when you pay real life money for a chance at something its gambling. I think the problem you and others are having is adding anything other than the technical sterile definition of my statement of fact. You keep bringing in the word argument when it does not apply since regardless of your attempt to minimize, you admit it is gambling and that is the very simple statement of fact I have already made.Yes, by a ridiculous stretch of the technical definition of the term, it's gambling. What you're doing is what we like to call "nitpicking semantics". Its generally a tactic used by someone who has a very weak argument and is considered petty. Yes, by the literal definition of the term, it's gambling. But so is hitting your attack button every time in the game.

Quote:Do me a favor then mate, read my comments in the thread starting with my comment to the OP about the lack of connection between video games and morals. This back and forth has gone on for so long that I don't even remember anymore what it is you're attempting to label as gambling with such scandalous implications. As if the mere mention of the g-word should make us all gasp with shock.
Some here appear to be are mad because I call paying real money for a chance to get some of the items in the SP gambling, because it is. In all truth that appears to be their problem not mine. -
-
For the record, this was initial response to the OP's thread starting post.
"Moral Obligations and video games...hmm..not seeing the connection." -
Quote:Ah I see there is a serious misunderstanding you are operating off of here. I am not offended. The only problem I ever had with the SP was items that were only available with real life money at a chance and not available in the game via playing the game.I'm really baffled at this.
If I spend an A-merit on 5 random recipes hoping to get a recipe that normally costs 2 A-merits, that's a gamble.
If I spend $10 on a new powerset, that's not a gamble.
It seems like it's just the fact that it costs real money that offends you. That's your prerogative, but that doesn't determine whether something is gambling or not.
At this point it is my understanding that the costume pieces are the only things in the SP that fall into that category. -

Frankly, there really is no argument from me as much as a statement. It is literally a gamble. Now you are welcomed to say its not paying real life money for a chance at something, I'll just agree to disagree and all will be well in the world again ok?
-
Since that MA changes were made, I take all of the MA attacks.

Quote:You seem to want to fight for some reason. The real life money you pay for the chance at any of the hundreds of items is the gamble. Its actually not that hard to recognize this fact unless you have alternative motives. If you purchase a pack desiring nothing but, say, the Scrapper proc ATO or a costume piece, then sure, it's gambling, because you might not get what you're expecting to get.
If, however, you purchase a pack expecting to get some random interesting/useful things with maybe one or two really neat items, then it's not gambling, because a pack will deliver every time, even if you don't want or need everything in the pack.
Probability is funny like that. It depends a great deal on knowledge and intention even when the actual action goes unchanged.
Also you have no business referencing a dictionary when you don't get rabblerouser right.
I used rebelrouser(a non word) on purpose as part of the humor in this absurd situation.
