Is kb really an issue with MM's?
which is beter to have, TP Foe or Challenge/Provoke and maybe the fear?
Heh Sin. I think your bots/pain would have the most potential.
I only got a thug/poison, so it would play quite differently than either of your toons but main things would still be the same. You want your MM to be as tough to kill as possible and there isn't much out there tougher to kill than a /Pain MM (if not being TPed).
The key to bing a successful MM is not so much builds but binds. You need to be able to quickly control your minions actions with easy to reach keys.
Let me give you an example of how I play Fifty Cents, my Poison, which is probably one of the squishies MM set out there for Zones since it has no meaningful mitigation or self heal. Aid self is interuptible by practically any debuf toggle or dot.
The five binds I use are pretty much this.
    z = full BG mode
x = attack target + two minions in BG mode
    c = full attack target
    v = heal minion (alkaloid)
    lshift+v = aidself

Normally I would be in full BG mode, but if I see the heroes attention stray from me and one of them is vulnerable, I will target him and press X to focus my minions on him while still have two in BG mode. I only use C as a last ditch effort or when I feel quite safe. After the target was defeated, I would press Z to enter BG again or X if another target can be disposed. If I'm taking fire when not in BG then I would press Z to go into BG mode.
A lot of time most people will ignore an MM because often he's not that easy to kill in BG mode and if he's in BG mode, he won't be much of a threat to anyone. With that in mind and being aware of the battle field, you can often jump in and out of BG mode quite effectively and in relative safety.

Ninja run is sufficient for an MM. Who would you be chasing as an MM? Running away is even more dangerous than toughing it out with your minions.
Of all ATs, MM is probably the least bothered by KB. Who cares if you're knocked down if your minions are still whaling away.
Repel or TK can be tough though.
TP foe would be very useful because neither you nor your minions can chase anyone down.
Of course TP foe is also the trump card against an MM as well.
Challenge/Provoke would be nice if you can spare it, but with the several heals from Pain, you probably don't even need it to keep your minions alive.

So yeah I would say work on your Bots/Pain especially if you want to do Zones. But I'm not sure if Freedom RV is a good place for MM though, even a tough one. Doesn't matter how tough of a nut you are, with enough squirrels gnawling at you ...you'll crack.
Try Virtue. The swarms are about half the size as on Freedom.
  2. I have Thug/Poison and my attacks are Mu and Staff. Used to take Dual Pistols for the looks but usually by the time I get to use it, I was pointing it down and shoot at a dead body. Most people don't know how to play an MM well, and even harder to play a Poison MM. Alkaloid is only decent after it's slotted up. I've used it to hold together teams when I was the only "healer". Heck many a times I put myself in danger running after teamates who ran away when they were taking hits. Fine and dandy in PvE but in PvP that's like putting a target sign on my back with sirens going. MM away from his pets is a dead MM.
Biggest complain for Poison is no self heal. Group heal would be awesome. Aid Self is crap in zone.
So yeah just because someone plays an MM does not mean he really knows how to play it and just because he has Poison does not mean he knows how to use it.
Gotta learn to watch out for your own hide.
  3. The problem here is that you use logic to argue with people who uses feelings.
Logic can be ignored, feelings can not.
The Devs feel that what they are doing to PvP is right. What does it matter if it actually works or not as long as it feels right doing it?
You just simply can not argue with people like that.

How about adding Sprint to your attack binds? This way pretty much everytime you attack, you would toggle sprint which should refresh your stealth timer.
Course I don't know if the toggle action would intefere with your attack timing.

So what you're saying is that it's not so much LOS but that I'm just bumping into boxes and walls in the alley and let my target get out of range of my perception? That is quite possible but it does seem like I should have more perception than the range I'm losing these targets.
I have Targeting Drone and the Rectified Reticle unique.
Maybe I should practice running those routes. Or maybe if someone is that prepared for a tactical retreat they should be allowed to live.

    Stealth IO

    Heh all,
I used to have a stealth IO on my Scrap and Corr until I found out it's practically useless in PvP. Well at least I had the toughest time trying to convince my opponents that they were not supposed to see me until I'm about to hit them. Even on my Dark Corr with Shadow Fall and SS. So I yanked it.
But recently I've fought a few non stalkers who ran and weave around some buildings to loose line of sight and I lost my target on them.
What is the reason for this? Could it be that they have stealth or the stealth IO and this is the effect?
If so then the Stealth IO may not be absolutely useless in PvP then?
    Thanks.

    En/MM for PvP

Heh everyone. I have an En/MM blaster that I transfered to Freedom.
It wasn't the best of build before but now find that it will require a major overhaul for the dynamics of Freedom RV.
    I would like your input.
I think I should drop Tough to get Stamina.
I find it really hard to effectively use Drain Psyche with the fast pace dynamics of Freedom RV, so without Stamina, I'm often left wheezing.

Drop Word of Confusion. I find it pretty much useless. The radius is too small, confuse doesn't seem to hit very often, it gets drop too easily and I still get AS through it. Anyone has other insights or opinions on it?

Power Push vs Telekinetic Thrust. I know the difference here is mag and range. I find PP pretty much useless against melee toons. I also saw a non trivial number of ranged toons protected against it. How much effort is needed for ranged toons and melee toons to protect themselves against PP and TT? In practice, do you find TT useful in RV?

Mind Probe, Psychic Shockwave and Snow Storm. The idea was to use them to debuf recharge, but the dynamics of Freedom RV seem to favor overwhelming damage over strategical finese. Beside, we're not dueling in RV.

I would appreciate any input to help me rebuild my toon.
    Thanks.

  8. Does KB resist if it was used in quick succession? I think opponents will resist same type holds if they are used within a certain amount of time, does that apply for KB as well? IE if I use Power Push to knock someone down and it recharges in four seconds, can I use it to knock them down again?
It seems like you really have to build for it in order to protect yourself from this sort of abuse. Has anyone been on the short/long end of this yet?
I was thinking of creating NRG toon just to go into RV and push people around. Do you think it will work?

Would this work the same way for the Impeded Swiftness proc in Tar Patch?
  10. If not too late or unless for thematic reason, I would probably go for Kat/Regen instead of BS cause Kat seems to have better DPS than BS.
Anyway I think you should build +recharge and +dam and HP. Your regen can be obtained by Fast Healing, Integration and Health. I wouldn't go over board with it though because DR hits it really hard.
Below is my build or very close to it. I've been using it since i12 and could use some tweeks but it's still doing fine. You could probably drop Parry and Whirling Sword cause they're not really needed in PvP. May want to take Confront to help fight squishies.

  11. I see. So the Combat Attributes numbers were bogus.
Was going to do a respec but then realized I gave all my inf to a friend before I left. Turns out he also quitted. Guess I will have to tweek the build and fill in the blanks with SOs.
I guess from the stuffs I'm reading on the forum, it may not be that painful...from a Have Not point of view anyway. No point in spending big money to maximize what would be scale down anyway. Man, hard working suckers can't get a break even in a game. Are they planning to add a Welfare office at city hall in Atlas anytime soon. I want my toon to be the first in line.
  12. Heh all. Just reactivated my account to play pvp a bit. My BS/Regen was built with focus on Regen (+600)and Recharge (+147 with Haste on) in Mids. I look at the Combat attributes in PvP and my regen is about half of what it was in PvE, but my recharge rate pretty much remains the same.
Is there a certain threshold that DR really starts to kick in ...hard?
I know 600 is a lot more than 147 so it got hit with a big club, are there other stats from other sets that go up to such high numbers that they are greatly effected by DR?
    Just curious. Thanks.

    Walk Button.

It seems like requests to just "walk" has been around since the beginning of CoH, and renewed every couple of weeks or so. But for some reason, it's kinda like asking Mircrosoft to separate Internet Explorer from Windows...it just can't be done.
  14. After MoG fix, I took my one and only lvl 50 hero, BS/Regen to the back of RWZ looking to farm some debt. I spotted two lvl 53 Chief Soldiers with their entourage of Commies, Head Hunters and the likes. Popped MoG, rushed in gleefully waiting for the debt that was rightfully mine. About two minutes later, no one was left standing and I'm full health. The monkies across the parking lot won't make eye contact. I got disgusted and logged off.
  15. Damit! Where was this guide the last several months????
I got to my wife to play and even manged to get her up to lvl 50 and done RLSF a couple times. She loves her toon and wouldln't play any other ones. Thing is she sucks and it annoyed the hell out of me. I know I know, it's stupid. It gets to not be fun when we team cause I was expecting too much from her. She had stopped playing for a month now....if only I could turn back time...
Should have paid more attention to making her experience more fun.
Good insights by the way. Some pretty sneaky too.

Just tried it and it worked fine. Here is the bind (slightly modified for better performance):

    /bind KEY "+ $$petselectname NAME$$powexecname POWERNAME"

Obviously change KEY, NAME and POWERNAME to what you need. Good luck!

Cool got it to work. Thanks! Actually didn't seem to work with the "+" sign but did get it to work. These are my binds:
    /bind lshift+numpad7 "petselectname Penny$$powexecname Alkaloid"
    /bind lshift+numpad8 "petselectname Wandala$$powexecname Alkaloid"
    /bind lshift+numpad9 "petselectname Hafdala$$powexecname Alkaloid"
    /bind lshift+numpad4 "petselectname Quata$$powexecname Alkaloid"
    /bind lshift+numpad5 "petselectname Dyme$$powexecname Alkaloid"
    /bind lshift+numpad6 "petselectname Nicko$$powexecname Alkaloid"
My MM's name is Fifty Cents so these names make sense to him
I'll probably remove the Heal from the bind and just have the select so I can use another bind for heal or upgrade.
Definitely need a bit more setup and practice before I can confidently play with minimal mouse usage. Feel handicapped without it. Great post. Added to my Favorites so I won't have to keep on hunting for it
  17. Has something changed since you posted the pet_select_name command? I can't get it to work. I tried this to select my pet Penny and heal him but it doesn't select him. Anyone see wha'ts wrong with the bind?
    /bind lcontrol+numpad7 "pet_select_name Penny$$powexecname Alkaloid"
  18. Awesome guide! I've been looking for the pet_select_name command for weeks. Thanks!
  19. Heh all, I've been looking for the bind command to select a named friend or pet. A while ago I made a bind to automatically select my Dark Servant and cast Recall Friend on him, I can't seem to remember which command to select him anymore. I'm looking for a command that's something like "target_select_custom FriendA/PetA$$pwexecname heal" Is there such a command I can use? Not sure how I did it before, but if anyone show me again, would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks!
  20. Thanks for the info. This is good to know. I did Scratch's mish last night and he won't introduced me to DJ Zero so I ended up bugging it. This is the email I got from support:
<quote>Our records indicate that the character currently have two assigned story arcs which prevents the character from receiving additional story arcs on this character. These story arcs are from "Operative Rutger" and "Captain Petrovich". If you talk to these two contacts they will offer the character missions that are part of these story arcs and will allow you to complete them. Once you have completed one or both of these arcs on the character, you should be able to receive new story arcs from your current contacts. </quote>

I did have two mish, Vindicators and Mayhem both in Grandville. Not sure whose record they pulled up but my toon was a level fifty, not fifteen! The cause/solution wasn't even right! Funny that I always complained that they don't give any support....I didn't realized how luck I was.
  21. Oops that was old and unecessary.
Good guide by the way. Will try some of the techniques provided in the guide when I get a chance.

Is there a way to set up a toggle to, with a single key, switch between Combat Jumping and Super Jump?
I know that activating one deactivates the other, but when I try to create a toggle for it, it only turns superjump on and off and doesn't touch combat jumping. I like to have superjump on to travel and combat on for fighting and it would be great if I could just use a single key to swap them on and off.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    try: /bind t "powexec_name Combat Jump$$powexec_name Super Jumping"

I personally like Death Shroud because of my playing style. I slotted it with 2Acc, 1End, 3Dam. I like herding groups to a corner and let DS burn them while I concentrate on the tough ones. Here is one tactic I used to gain a couple of levels when I was in my mid thirties. Any brute with decent AoEs can try this, but you should at least be in your lower thirties.
First I acquire the Carnival girl contact, forgot what her name was or who introduced me to her, but she's in St Martial near the Carnival tents area, she stand at the corner of a building by a bridge. You need to acquire her as a contact so she will sell you inspirations...you'll need it. The area right behind her, you will find plenty of Freaks and Tsoos in their mid thirties. They have bosses too. What I do is I bought a bunch of purples from the girl, pop about four of them and run around and agro as many as I can handle, for me, that's as many as they're willing to follow. Run back and hide behind the girl (sound very manly huh?). Pop a couple more purples, talk to the girl and buy a bunch of reds and use them. Make sure you don't close your dialog with her, keep the store open so you can buy more inspirations as needed. The mobs will round the corner and surround both of you so it might be very difficult to click on her again until the enemies are dead. I would wait a bit for all the enemies to pile in, then hit Soul Drain, Dark Regen and Dark consumption, Death Shroud is always on. At this point my fury is maxed out and DS is cooking away. I concentrate my attacks on the bosses, and use any AoEs that comes back up.
With the girl feeding me reds, purples, oranges, yellows, and greens and blues when needed, I'm practically invincible and burning everything around me. Turn on CoF to debuff them if you have it. Of course it can still be very dangerous if you agro too many purples or reds. So just bite off as much as you can chew. You get nice XP, infamy and enhancements too. Too bad the closes Quartermaster is half a mile away. It might not be worth doing this anymore once you hit lvl 38. I didn't see a lot of people in the area so I don't think you'll be disrupting anyone. It's amusing to see once in a while someone came to talk to the girl just to find out she was being mobbed by about thirty Freaks and Tsoos. Lucky for her you were there to protect her! TIP: keep the store open!
