    Paragon Protectors: Eden.
Fake Nems/Overseers: Shadow Shard, try Point Sierra.
CoT mages: the Hollows near Skyway's entrance.
Igneous bosses: turn on your AoE spam and hit the middle of the Hollows.
Malta Titans: set Crimson's arc on difficult and away you go (otherwise, the RWZ and Peregrine Island)
    Carnie Illusionists: Peregrine Island
Rikti Monkeys: the RWZ or Crey's Folly
    Freak Tanks: Terra Volta
Sky Raider Skiffs: Striga or Terra Volta
Council War Wolves: Striga (Bonny Morass)
Council Vampyri: same area, at night

  6. Welcome back to the game! (And welcome to your wife!)

I agree with the others that hitting the Wiki is the best source of info. If you'd like visuals to go with it (from Issue 10 onward), hit my YT channel (link in my sig) - I did teasers and trailers for Issues 10-now.

Or as some players call them, "animated patch notes."

  10. A couple of my characters do care about the events going on around them, yes. Not all, but some. The two most involved are Andrea Blake (and her variants, Soulcatcher and Cassandra Dunstan) and Sorina Tavarisch. As much of their storylines is original material, they are also ineffably entwined with the canon of the game. Others are 'affected' by or created within the canon, but to a lesser extent (Mender Anomaly, Profiteer, and Cluster Flux come to mind).

I don't like those characters any less for it.

Though truth be told, I am not averse to the deaths of signature characters. I am averse to their deaths being MEANINGLESS. (The same goes for them being brought back.)

    *SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS*

For example, Hero 1 and the Omega Team go out in a brilliant flash of glory, destroying the Rikti portal and saving the Earth. 50 lives given to save BILLIONS. (Except for Ajax, but he's another story...)

A couple years later, we get the Lady Grey Task Force, and guess who's at the end... true, a Rikti-fied, warped, and twisted, but very much ALIVE Hero 1. Sent back to slaughter the very humans he sacrificed his life to save, after being turned into a weapon by our invaders. And then we see that faintest glimmer of humanity begging for release even as he's giving us a beatdown. THAT, for a lot of players, was a major impact moment. Did we have any problem buying this? Not for a second.

On the flip side, in the very same TF, we get Glacia and Infernia, who also survived Omega Team's assault, and have been in hiding on the Rikti homeworld for a few years before sneaking back. Alive, well, and "hey fancy meeting you here." Ummmmmm... no.

If the writing team offs Positron in a truly heroic way, sure it'd break my heart (and Sora's, but that's yet another story), but damn, if it's done right and players are talking for years about it (and in a good way)...

... then yeah, Paragon's Geek in Shining Armor could very well buy it.

    1) Not really, but she might find herself using very logical, precise "if/then" statements.
    2) Nova/Dwarf... no. Human, maybe - projecting an energy field over the clockwork construct's body almost holographic style.

    5000 inf on Sister Psyche.

She's one of two women in the Phalanx (the other of whom is a player-named-by-contest ghost), married to the Batman clone of the FP, and has already had a full lifespan despite looking like she's in her 20s. And there's only room in IP for one Phalanx member. If she buys it, Manticore can go full vigilante like he should have from day one, and finally stare at Swan without worrying his head's gonna get vaporized.

    She can go.

  15. Heya, all:

I'm looking to include one (or maybe more) of my arcs in my professional writing portfolio, but I really don't know which one to include. So I'm here to ask for a bit of help.

I'm not asking for ratings, or 'posted' comments on my arcs. (Saying it again: DO NOT RATE. This is not to boost my arcs.) But if you're willing, and have some time to spare, I'd appreciate a play thru one (or more) of my arcs (FYI: skip "Positron Gets Some") and let me know which arc, from a writing standpoint, would be best to include. Then send me a PM via the forum with your suggestion and why ("this scene here? brilliant" or "great example of dialogue" or somesuch).

    They are:
    • "Cause and Effect" - The Menders of Ouroboros have a great and terrible responsibility to preserve the timelines. But it all goes horribly wrong when a Mender on assignment disrupts the timestream, and the countdown to temporal dissolution begins...
    • "Dyne of the Times" - Times move on, and for the Back Alley Brawler, it's really proving difficult. But when a new drug hits the streets of Paragon City, he isn't about to let semi-retirement stop him...
    • "For All the Wrong Reasons" - Heroes are desperately needed to halt an imminent invasion of Primal Earth by the Praetorians. But remember... "The last temptation is the greatest treason: To do the right deed for the wrong reason."
    • "Hell Hath No Fury" - At the instigation of Lord Recluse, the mages of Arachnos begin a top secret endeavour known as Project: ERINYES. Only things don't go exactly as planned.
    • "Kill or Cure" - It all starts with a phone call from SERAPH - Your Omega Clearance makes you the prime candidate to investigate a series of events eight years in the making that, if left unchecked, will culminate in genocide.
    • "Too Clever by Half" - Vernon von Grun, in his latest and greatest attempt at mad science, encounters a... SLIGHT problem. Panic with him! NYA-HA-HA-HA-HA... HELP!

If there's NO arc as they stand that you'd include, but with a bit of reworking might be portfolio-worthy, I will happily take advice on how to improve it.

This is strictly for writing purposes - I want to be able to show content writing skills in my professional portfolio.

I don't know what to offer as fair exchange for this, to be really honest - it depends on how many people take me up on it... if 100 players all agree to play through six of my seven arcs (one's not listed in my sig, but you're skipping PGS), I'd bankrupt myself really fast. Nor could I offer equivalent time to play through everyone ELSE'S arcs... crap, I really don't know. Suggestions?

    Michelle
    aka
    Samuraiko/Dark_Respite

PS - And please, if you think they all suck, just don't play them, don't rate them, and don't PM me. Do something else with your time that'd you enjoy more.
  16. I wonder how fast "Aural Pleasure" would get generic'd?

  18. Dr. Sorina Tavarisch had been in Paragon City less than six months, happily teaching and researching in the science department at Paragon University. A Russian expatriate, she was part of a joint US/Russia scientific consortium meant to foster knowledge and unity between the two countries. Although she possessed extremely weak telekinetic abilities, her abilities as a physicist were considerable.

But when the skies opened above the city on May 23rd, 2002, she and the other faculty members quickly acted to make sure the campus was evacuated of all non-essential personnel, and between the university campus and nearby Williams Square, provided a rally/safe point for the students, staff, faculty and neighborhood heroes who had arrived to investigate.

Then evening came, and with it, came the Rikti.

Tava, as she was known, knew her powers would be useless in combat (and, as a woman and an academic, she had been exempt from Russia's enforced conscription), but her scientific mind allowed her to liaise with the first groups of heroes on the scene, struggling to understand the weaponry and technology these creatures were bringing to bear. Even as Founders Falls was being hammered around her, by the end of the first day, she and a handful of heroes and scientists were desperately coordinating with others around the world, analyzing the portals to determine if there were a way to close them.

All through the night, using any and all means possible to keep communications open (including teams of psychic heroes relaying information telepathically across the city) even as the Rikti bombed power stations, water treatment facilities, and communication arrays, Tava and the science teams gathered, sorted, and broadcast information on the Rikti, their weapons, their ships, and their portals to the military and hero forces of the world.

The portals closed late afternoon the following day.

The war, however, had only just begun.

POST "DAY ONE" INFORMATION: When Vanguard was formed on June 5th, Tava was one of their first volunteers, serving first with Dark Watcher in the Helm during the war, then later joining Gaussian's ranks in the Sword. After five years in the Vanguard, she'd reached the rank of Colonel, become one of Gaussian's 'Black Ops', and been decorated numerous times for distinction in and out of combat. She left Vanguard in 2007 to join the Freedom Corps branch known as the Star Patrol.

  19. Agent Blake (dark/psi def) - Alpha slot unlocked
Agent Tavarisch (grav/kin troller) - Alpha Tier 3, working on unlocking Judgment
Cluster Flux (mind/ff troller) - Alpha Tier 4, working on unlocking the rest

I'll probably unlock Alpha on my other 50s (I have 5 others), but no farther for them... they don't quite have the same story resonance as these three do.

  20. Most of my characters tend to be apolitical, save one. Sora Tavarisch is my dual citizenship hero (United States/Russia) - born in Moscow, and emigrated first to Cambridge for her second doctorate and then to Paragon City. Moscow is still 'home', and her older brother Stefan is a member of the Valiant Defenders (Russia's first and premier group of superheroes).

Originally, she was one of several scientists who planned to participate in a joint US/Russia exchange to foster community and scientific understanding between the two nations. That all changed when the Rikti invaded shortly after she arrived in Paragon City.

But although she also loves her new home (she's been here since the war), her time in the Vanguard has ingrained in her that ALL of Earth must be protected. If, God forbid, the US and Russia began another arms race/Cold War, Sora would probably turn to many of the other multinational heroes to stand up as examples as to what humanity should strive for.

Because it's one of the 'base items' that you get, along with Manti's Bow, Statesman's Face Plate, Psyche's Belt, etc. (I think.)

Maybe they'll still keep it there - once it gets totalled, you now have to dig through rubble to get anything out of it...

    Or not.

I imagine the FC people will now end up in City Hall along with their AP counterparts (might be nice to see City Hall a bit 'busier', with more contacts in there you can talk to).

Something else I'm curious about... how they're going to close off GC from the other zones (Perez Park and Kings Row). I think it'd look fricking AWESOME to have the car tunnel collapsed with a mob of cops and medics and civilians milling around for Kings Row (a la the Sutter TF when you go down into the tunnels under Talos).

And those HUMONGOUS security doors going in and out of the hazard zones? GC is now closed off with a detail of armed guards.

Even more heartbreaking would be to put the background sound effect of battle and sirens and panic (the way you hear bowling sounds near the Alleys or sirens as you run past the PPD, etc).

If the zone's gotta go, make it REAL that it went.
