Incidentally, I will be doing a lot of filming at HeroCon to make a 'mockumentary' of the event, so those of you from Europe will have to do something to stand out a bit. (Just to warn you - my husband will be the guy doing the Steve Irwin impression so if he runs up to you, turns to the camera, and goes, "CRIKEY, this is one of those rare Eu-RO-peen con-goers!", just smile and put up with it.)

Done it now at least 3 times on each side. Villainside 3 times with my lvl 50 bots/dark MM. Heroside with lvl 45 en/en blaster, lvl 47 dark/psi def, lvl 50 grav/kin troller.
Done them in beta, again just after release, and then again in the last two weeks. Different experience each time. Third time villainside was the easiest of the three once we got through the endless spawns of 5th Column. The key? Not nukes... not the patron temp powers... not even a perfectly balanced AT team.
Nectar, baby.
Once we cleared out the ambushes and all that was left was the 5th Column still in there with Reichs, we chucked that in and watched the bloodbath start.
And it didn't matter that the MM power didn't work... I came in with a slew of the temp powers I get from doing mayhem missions (tear gas, long bow, etc etc etc) and just kept debuffing Reichs. Worked like a charm.

This is a question I see coming up in my groups pretty frequently, either during downtime or even during combat if the team has managed to reach that pace. My usual response to these questions is something along the lines of:
'Jack is Jack Emmert, who posted as Statesman on the official boards. He left the CoH design team when it was purchased by NCSoft and remained at Cryptic, where he's engaged in the creation of a very similar game based on the 'Champions' RPG.
'I'm afraid he doesn't have a very good reputation among CoH players because SINCE leaving the NCSoft dev team, he's done things like recruit for his new game on the CoH message board. Even before that, he tended to earn enemies by making unkeepable promises-- such as promising 'no more power nerfs' and then implementing the 'enhancement diversification.
'For many players he's exhausted all his respect and credulity. I personally advise you to take anything you hear from him on the Champions Online forums with a big grain of salt. He's very good at making grandiose promises and then never living up to them.'
How do you reply to questions about Jack?
The last paragraph sort of detracts from it, but that's just my opinion. (And no, that's not me defending Jack - that's me assessing your answer.)

Are you sure you'd want an encounter with Odysseus? I mean you could have a whole TF of finding him, get to him and he just turns on VH1 in a cutscene, thus forcing your team to run screaming. End of TF.

Damn, it's nice to see that there are this many other people who actually follow the canon and ask questions and want to know more about this world we run around in. Sometimes I wondered if it really was just me.
I swear, I think Paragon Studios could hire a half dozen writers/mission designers SOLELY for stories that back-fill canon stuff and players would just go nuts for it.

To the good folks of the European forums who are now co-mingling with us in the States... I know that some of you were/are fans of my video work, and I always had to depend on other people to relay messages to you guys from me.
But now I can properly say "thanks" to those of you who cheered on my various teasers and trailers for the game, lobbied (albeit unsuccessfully) to get me hired by NCsoft, and spread the word on various forums and SG sites about my videos to help get others into this game we all enjoy.

EDIT: Okay, the poster of "Lrn2eddet" fessed up - turns out this one doesn't belong in the "odd" or "whale poo" category. I do wish s/he'd actually posted in the Discussions thread of my story... just because I'm the writer doesn't mean I always get everything right. :S Still, s/he apologized and everything is hopefully copasetic. -
Actually, a while back I had started a thread that referenced Apple's famous "Here's to the crazy ones..." commercial, where forumites stated who they felt had helped to enrich the game, the forum, or players' experience.
You had to say WHY you were listing these people (needless to say, you couldn't mention yourself), and surprisingly, a lot of players were glad to be able to recognize folks they felt had made things more enjoyable for them. A couple of the rednames commented on the thread, too, glad to see that the playerbase was willing to acknowledge their own and their hard work on the game.
Sometimes it was because of something big, othertimes it was "I remember the first time I played, and such-and-such helped me and showed me how to play, and it kept me playing this game when I might have otherwise said the hell with it."
Unfortunately, the thread got deleted when the forums were moved.
