  1. Hmmm...what have I been watching...

Afro Samurai: Ressurrection - Sequel to Afro Samurai. Decent show, but somehow, it just didn't have the same...magic...as the original. I can't put my finger on it, but I'm kinda ambivalent about it. Still good animation/soundtrack/VA'ing though.

He Is My Master - Very much a fanservice show. Definitely had some funny bits. Mitsuki is pretty much the devil. Let's be honest...if we were in Yoshitaka's position (rich, young, no parents), most of us would be exactly like him.

Queen's Blade - Just this side of porn, IMO. The fighters definitely take the trope of "Less Is More" when it comes to armoring. Funny though, especially how Melona is dealt with. I think it's the first anime I've seen that has included mud and oil wrestling as well as someone who uses a snake for bikini bottoms. The animation though, is extremely good.

Far better to give everyone the same thing, and save those problems. Computers can't do true random anyway, they always get stuck in strings. One of the reasons electronic "dice" were not allowed in tournaments.
Except that isn't really 'gambling' any more than a kid buying a pack of CCG cards is, which is functionally what happens. Sometimes you get the holo card and sometimes all you really get is the gum.

I seem to recall some giveaways (where some can win a big item and others get nothing or the equivalent of a pack of tissues) are restricted from some locales due to various criteria that it falls under, like needing some form of 'skill' to enter. Since everyone was getting the same item, it doesn't really qualify as a contest.

Just because there is no purchase doesn't mean it isn't a lottery. If they're giving away randomized things of 'value', then some people would most likely get nothing, while some get things like a powerset. It could very well be deemed a lottery of sorts (especially if someone keeps getting nothing of worth).

    Just something worth considering. *shrug*
  4. Hmm...now that I think about it, I'm not sure that they'd be able to do a randomized draw for each person. Wouldn't that fall under gambling or lottery laws?

  6. Wow...Minatsuki is the craziest ***** I think I've ever seen in an anime. Also, headbutt for the win! Literally!

I wonder what they have in store, given Tom's spiel tonight about reruns...

Most people have given out the ones that I knew (like Jack Black in X-Files). Vincent D'Onofrio as Thor blew my mind.

Most of Liam Niesson's smaller parts have been noted, but I know I was surprised to see him in the role of a priest in The Mission (excellent movie if you haven't seen it) along Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons.
Considering I linked a picture from Major League, I'd say, yes, I know who he is. I didn't realize it was him in H&M due to the way he was dressed and that scruffy beard. It didn't look like him and didn't even know he was in the show till I saw the credits w/his name.

Virtually everything in this game is team content should the people want to team on it. Things like Task Forces, Trials, Hamidon raids? It's ok that it requires a team since they can be done at virtually any time.

Limited time events? Not so much.

Making events possible to solo does not in any way prevent you from teaming for them, if you so desire. Making them require a team automatically eliminates those who like to solo or forces upon them a playstyle they might not like in order to take part in the event.

In other words, you can play how you want and we can play how we want. Is that such a bad thing?
  10. If you want to watch Starship Troopers, pick up the CGI Roughneck Chronicles. Pretty good, but it has been some time since I've seen it.
  11. Now they're saying the guy only had pot in his system. No indicators of 'bath salts'.

The zombie hypothesis is a bit more likely...

    Once a year team up?

Let's look at the events that require teaming...

Nemesis/Rikti/Zombie Invasions - require big teams to get the badge mob to spawn

Halloween Event - Lowbie trick or treating pretty much requires a team given the prevalence of boss mob spawns; the Haunted Mansion thing requires a team; Banners requires teams

XMas event - Winter Lord requires a team to spawn, iirc; Lady Winter mission requires a team for all but a few uber builds; Lord of Winter requires big teams

Spring Event - Requires a team up to get the clickies in the Scratch/Ganymede missions finished

Individually, yes, it's just a 'once a year team up'. Collectively, it is a bit different. It's kinda like brownies. You tell yourself that you're only eating "one" brownie. But then you eat another brownie, because it's only one. Pretty soon, the entire pan is gone, but you were only eating "one" brownie.

As for the IOs, not everyone is doing it for those.

It doesn't support it because multi-cast ensembles, such as The Avengers have absolutely nothing to do with the point I was making. Namely, that single-star (read 'star' as protagonist because that's what the game is, we are the 'stars' for our individual stories and everyone else is a supporting character) movies are doable and don't always equate to 'bad' movies.

    3) 4 people seems like a good balance between massive league or solo play. Sorry but sometimes you do have to get out of solo mode to play a MMORPG. I do like solo play but lets face it 4 people 100x easier than 18-24 on a league. Given this is the same as the Halloween event with 4 people it shouldn't have been a shocker.
Why? Making it soloable means that EVERYONE can do it at their preferred setting, either team or solo. And quite frankly, I'm sick to death of the 'get out of solo mode to play a MMORPG' argument, that has been trotted out for everything. It's pretty much Godwin'ing the thread. And 'sometimes' equates to 'pretty much every event that involves a mission'.

Is it too much to ask that a bone be thrown to the soloers so that they may enjoy the event in their preferred method of play?

No, Bruce Willis was the star. The movie was about him and his travails. Gruber and the rest of the Germans were obstacles.

Yes, it actually does work. You are misreading what I typed.

Die Hard, 300, Gladiator, I Am Legend, The Book of Eli would disagree with you. I'm counting only the protagonist as the 'star' of the show. And while in the case of 300, there are more protagonists there, they are more akin to a mastermind's pets than anything else.

And it's much like anything else, there's good and there's bad. There's some movies that have multiple big name stars that turn out to be godawful, boring drecks of films.

I would prefer that people have the option to do these at least some of these things solo rather than forced teaming. What have we really got for solo things in events? Valentine Deliveries, skiing, Trick or Treating (though if you're a lowbie, you'll spend more time hospitaling that fighting due to the placement of bosses in the spawns), opening presents, and Baby New Year. That's about all I can think of and three of those have been around for multiple years.

Fission-type generators are just a mess waiting to happen. We can't even really do spacecraft with such generators due to the hand-wringing if it explodes in the atmosphere. Something happens to it, then you've got potential friendly casualties. No foot slogger is gonna want to be in the same county as one, IMO.

I imagine it would take some variant on a fusion power plant, antimatter, or some other "exotic" form of power. Unless they can massively increase the storage capacity of batteries while at the same time making them smaller, it simply won't work IMO.

Sweet zombie jeebus guys. Can we PLEASE get an event that does NOT require teams? I'd like to be able to go through these at my own pace and reading everything without feeling like I'm holding the rest of the team back.

While four is a lot better than eight, it's worse than one.

I dunno about for larger-scale stuff, but there's a few bipedal robots walking around. They aren't very fast and I'm not sure of their capabilities.

We aren't going to get a decent vehicle until we can finally come up with an energy source better than an IC engine. There's simply too much weight and fuel requirements to make something better than a glorified pack mule.

What? You thought they'd take an unmodded rover out joy-riding? Heck no. Put some spinners on that thing, some big ol' fat tires, nitrous system, and a turbo onnit (amongst other modifications). That'd be part of the "repair" mission to Mars.

That just means we'd have more reason to do a manned mission to Mars...to fix it.

And by "fix it", I mean joy-ride the hell out of that thing over the dunes on Mars.
  23. I'm talking the guy doing the drinking. The guy doing the talking is pretty obvious. I could be totally wrong on who it is as I didn't really pay attention to the details of him, but it was the first thought that popped into my mind. And if it is who I thought of, it would be very poetic considering what Lincoln did/was in this movie.
  24. Nope, no after credits stuff. I'm talking right at the end with <name removed> in the bar.
