  1. I have two Scrappers, a Claws/Regen and a Katana/Dark. Both play very differently and are perfect for when I only have a few minutes to play and want something simple to get into. That said, balancing all of the toggles/endurance issues in the Dark secondary can be challenging.

As for Scrappers in teams, yes they can be boring but then it depends on how much responsibility you want to assume. When I team with my Scrapper I appoint myself as squishy guardian. The Tank will most likely be in the thick of it, taking most of the aggro. But the tank can't always keep an eye on everything (or they might be a poor tanker...) so sometimes things are going to get free and go straight after the poor Blaster, Controller or Defender. That's where you can jump in and play back-up tank. Playing like this not only feels very heroic to me but also has garnered me compliments from squishys who don't expect Scrappers to be looking out for the rest of the team. Sure, I like the hack and slash of it but when I'm on a team, I want to be a team player and keeping an eye out for the less well defended players helps me to feel fulfilled in my role. The old scrapper-lock does kick in sometimes but if a team-mate's bar starts going red, it normally means something is going wrong and I may well be the most mobile at that time and able to help. (By the way, this is not meant to be patronising, I have several squishies myself and they are very capable of defending themselves. Sometimes though, they can get overwhelmed.)

As for weapons and damage, it depends on how you use your concept. My Katana/Dark's sword it completely blunt. However it is enchanted and deals 'illusionary' wounds to its foes in the same way Spectral Wounds works. Helps to make me feel less guilty for cutting up bad guys.
  2. I'm on course to make it. I shall attempt to be there before 12:03 this time.
  3. Well I’m not a major PvPer but as I said in another thread I think I’ve only ever seen one other Kat/Dark in my time so I’ll do my best from one of the few times I took my Kat/Dark into the Arena.

Katana is mainly light damage but fast recharge so it’s better suited for more prolonged fights. When fighting in the Arena, it seemed that the emphasis is on ‘burst’ damage, attacks that do a lot of damage in one go rather than over time. Plus it’s lethal damage and most melee toons will have resists in place. Death Shroud will help you get in a little pure Negative damage but probably not enough to help that much.

Dark Armour is all toggle based so I found they could be knocked off with stacked stuns i.e. if fighting an Energy based opponent. And although I’ve heard that Cloak of Fear can be useful as Fear is infrequently resisted, it’s base accuracy is so awful I can’t see it being worthwhile. Other people may disagree.

Personally, I find the combo very, very nice in PvE but I got spanked royally in PvP but then I’m not that good at it so maybe that’s why.

    Hope that helps some.
  4. I have both a thugs/dark MM and an MA/SR stalker and I can honestly say that the MM matures a lot faster and is, in my opinion, a lot more fun to play. The sheer amount of damage that you can lay down is great along with the security that Dark Miasma provides in terms of debuffs, heals, fear etc is just amazing. I live in fear of seeing the combo nerfed for how fast it can rack up XP once it gets going.

The stalker is also fun but matures a lot later once you have your key abilities in place. Being able to take people out stealthily is fun but I find it's hard to find a role in teams. If you're not sure whether you're going to team or solo a lot, I'd say go MM as it can do both very well. Either that or do as others have suggested and try both and see which you prefer.

i love IC arena fights, because my brain ends up interprating it in more detail than there actualy is.

Having played around with IC arena fights a few times now, I'm slowly coming to appreciate how much fun it can be.

It's a shame defenders don't have Fire blast really.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I almost cried when I found out that I couldn't go Dark/Fire. Probably because it would be overpowered.
  7. Real life allowing, I should hopefully be there still. Will let you know if not.

To be honest, I'm finding my time on Monday nights becoming more and more restricted so I fear for how regularly I will be able to make it too. What do people want to do about this? Should we move to another night or is the writing on the wall for us? Thoughts, opinions etc all welcomed.

    A clown bows out

And I was only just getting to know you...

Good luck out there, I wish you all the best.

Bah... looks like RL getting in the way... will keep you updated but may have to bow out gracefully...

Shame, I was looking forward to FC's erudite contrafibularities.

As for the TF bug, I reckon it's probably a high priority for the devs to get fixed so I think it's worth at least trying it.
  11. Thanks for the advice. I've been using hover as a semi-knockback protection and apart from being flipped over when hit with a KB attack, I seem to be ok with it. It's already got three slots of fly in it and it's nicely fast, occasionally overtaking people while running.

I managed to miss the immobilise resistance on Cloak of Darkness but I was going to pick that up anyway so that works out pleasantly. I still think that there should be some sort of resistance based pool powers so that our travel power is not dictated to us (used to have a fire tank too) but I'm hoping that inventions will give us some ability to do this.

Hi folks. It's likely that I'm not going to be able to make it tonight either. I've got to have a look at the wiring in my house tonight which means pulling the fuses so no PC for a little bit. If I get it sorted soon enough, I'll try and be there, but if not, have fun and keep me posted if anything bizarre happens.
  13. Given the great time we had yesterday, I will do my best to be at this one too, probably with the same character. There is a chance that I might not be able to come at all but I will only find out closer to the time. I'll do my best to let you know as soon as possible.

    Storm/Elec

I can't help you on the Primary as I've never played it but I can tell you that /Elec as a secondary gets depressingly weak after about level 20ish. You'll need about a dozen blasts just to take down an even con lieutenant. On the plus side, you get a nice hold and a pet with the set which goes very well with controllery Primaries.

As has been mentioned on the Defender boards recently endurance drain is a real all or nothing strategy. You'll need triple slotted Short Circuit and Power Sink from the epics to really use it as an attack. That said, in a long fight (say with an Elite Boss or an AV) it can work really well.

    External rp?

I'm not that good at forum roleplay, I tend to get lost and lose track of things but it is something I'd like to get better at. I like the sort of mutant teen thing you're suggesting so I might like to give this a go.

    A Magic team?

My head hurts. This is similar to an idea I was going to RP out for my Mastermind that never happened. She originally gained power from some sort of Netherworld demon and as she progressed and became more powerful, she would start to look more and more like the demon who wanted to eventually take her over and enter our world. I loved the idea but I never really got the chance to use it.

I think I'm going to need a new wall....
  17. Thanks for having us there. It was a very enjoyable TF and great company so thank you for organising it. A big thanks also to those who came to help us take down Babbage, you know who you are.

I just need to remind myself here...

This is all very interesting and I love the Seven Deadly Sins idea. The only problem I foresee with such a rigid structure is that if someone drops out or can't make it, it throws the whole thing out of alignment. When I started in my current SG, the idea was to have two of each AT. Within months we had such a mish-mash where people had come and gone, it certainly didn't reflect a balance of ATs anymore.

You'll probably need a more general theme but I do love the Deadly Sins one, very groovy.
  19. I'm committed to another TF at 12 but if we get it done in three hours (possible but unlikely) then I would like to come along with my claws/regen Scrapper Stygian Minx (lvl 21).

Might see you there but if not, good luck.
  20. I was going to start a new thread but this seems to be an appropriate place to ask.

I love Defenders but I am put off by the lack of soloability (is that a word?) of some of the ones I've tried. I'm currently testing a Dark/Sonic which seems to solo ok but I'm only at level 8 at the moment. Does this combination perform well at higher levels? I remember thinking that my Dark/Elec did well at the beginning only to see the damage output diminishing rapidly by the late teens.

The resist debuffs are great but are they still effective later?

    Thanks.
  21. Last night proved to be a curious time for members of the Militia. Arriving in Pocket D, they were approached by Lady Silverwing of Primal who informed them of a threat that concerned both teams. Although earnest in her request, it disguised her current agenda: to observe Militia members in combat. Joined by her Primal colleagues Carrion Paw and Dorak , they combined forces with Slix, The Golden Scarab, Genesis Blade, Tygerboy and new Militia recruit GhostSpy .

Following their successful outing, the team socialised a little, the verbose Force Commander indulging in his usual imbibing of what fine wines they stocked behind the bar. However, once Dorak took offence at something the Commander said, Silverwing made her excuses and left, not wanting to get drawn into a conflict until the time was right. She retired, compiling notes on the various Militia members in her study once she returned home.

Back at the bar, the Amber Banshee joined her friends although it was clear that she was still smarting from her emotional outburst last week. She declined the offer of a drink for undisclosed reasons. After saying hello to Ghostspy and establishing that he was in fact one of the undead, Slix informed her of recent developments with Lady Patriot who appeared to now be on the run after assaulting several Longbow patrols. Amber became very defensive, refusing to believe that Sarah would do something like that. Blackrun was able to reveal that the Patriot responsible for the crimes was likely to be Sarah’s dark twin. Amber was about ready to go and take on the doppelganger when Mort stated that any such attack would undoubtably hurt the other Sarah as well. Despondent, Amber sunk into a sulk. Crimson Archer proposed asking the magic users in the Militia to see if there is some sort of mystical link between the two Patriots and mobilising the forces to locate where Sarah had disappeared to.

At this point, Amber complained that she was feeling nauseous and ran off to the ladies to be sick. On returning, she claimed that it must have been something that she ate and departed for home, clearly not very happy.

((There may have been more but I was really tired so if I’ve missed anyone, apologies.))

((And as far as I'm aware, the dating scene in Paragon moves pretty fast in my experience! ))
  22. I've only just seen this thread but I think the answer is probably no or at least very few. Most RP happens on Union and even then, it's normally Heroes side. I think the Patriot Brigade had a villain side but the link to their site seems to have stopped working at the moment.

Now I've filled all my slots on Union, I'm filling up Defiant too and I miss the RP on that side of things.

    A Magic team?

I feel I have to quote a friend on this one:

    *Bangs head against the wall*

    Must. Not. Make. Another. Alt.

Seriously, this would be right up my street, I love magic origin characters but I just couldn't commit to another night. That said, I'll be watching this thread with interest.

And I'm probably going to have to do the same. My attempts to level my Blaster have not gone well and I don't think I'll get him above 15 for tomorrow night. Good luck though, I hope it all goes well.
  25. Yes, I'm kind of hoping there'll be some way round it with inventions too. It's unfortunate that wanting protection from knockback and holds has to decide our travel power that way, it's always annoyed me.
