You're right, it is a last resort and not one I like doing. I don't enjoy ignoring any character, player, plot or supergroup if I can avoid it as it's effectively dismissing their creativity as being beneath my notice. Which is kinda rude really.

I listed my options on the other page and if I choose not to completely ignore it then I only have two avenues open to me: a) find a viable reason why all of my characters choose to turn their backs on such an atrocity or b) allow myself to be dragged into a plot I have no interest in. Like Zortel, I don't fare well in big plots like this one and tend to keep my RP smaller scale. However, I still acknowledge what RP events go on around me, even if I don't participate. Most of the time, the activities can be dealt with by whoever is addressing/causing the threat at the time. That's cool and adds to the vibrant, immersive RP environment we have on Union.

But this event is so large that it demands attention. And to simply turn IC backs on it is character breaking.

News Reporter: 1,000 children were killed today in an epic robot monster attack.
The Amber Banshee: I'm busy washing my hair.
It just doesn't fly. Now Pious' suggestion for the FSBA involvement is a reasonable temporary measure. But as has been noted, this would be the biggest attack on American soil since the Rikti invasion. There's simply no way that the Freedom Phalanx, Longbow, hell, even Arachnos wouldn't get involved to try and avert an international incident and bring the perpetrator to justice. You might manage to keep the hordes at bay for a few days while the FSBA investigate but after that, we're talking an all out manhunt.

So, for now, I'm forced to hold off on reacting to it IC in the hope that some sort of clarity, compromise or retcon can be decided upon by the plot's GMs. If nothing like that is forthcoming, then I simply have to exclude it otherwise I'll have been effectively god-modded into action. And that would make me exceedingly grumpy.

Just spent the last five minutes laughing over this. Kudos to its creator.
  5. The problem though is that the event is so big and so wide ranging, that now the world is forced to pay attention, regardless of whether they were involved with that thread or not. I don't tend to get involved with large scale plots, mainly because I loose track of what's going on and struggle to keep up. However, I still RP within the Union Universe and so other plots and events do affect my characters. So now this atrocity has occurred, I'm left with three options:

    1) Ignore it completely and retcon it out of the universe OOC and IC.

    2) Force all of my characters to accept that it happened but have every single one of them turn their backs on it which is, quite frankly, character breaking.

    3) Force me to participate in the plot.

If your recommendation is number 3, you might see why some people are annoyed.
  6. Although some would stick to proposed limits, others wouldn't and would then call foul on those trying to impose unenforceable rules on their plots. It's up to each participant as to whether they join in on a plot or not and to find their own reasons for not getting sucked into an event be it simply ignoring the event right up to not recognising it as part of their RP canon.

As it is, I'm finding more personal, individual plots more fulfilling these days rather than OMFG!!! IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD type plots (and I'll hold my hand up to being guilty of running some of those too). :P

  8. Roleplayers will ignore other roleplayers' plots all of the time, it's inevitable and I'm glad it happens. Otherwise every Tom, Dick and Harry would be poking their noses into other people's plots and people would get drawn into plots they don't want to be involved with but have to because of their magnitude.

We're roleplaying in a city where threats to the safety of the world exist around every corner but where they're policed by more superheroes than you can shake a stick at. All of which is reported in the media (random passers by know about your exploits so mass reporting is kind of established IMHO). If I was to try and resolve it IC, I would simply say that each character sees an event and then chooses whether to get involved depending on whether they can help or not. But if there's already someone else on the job, what's the point of leaping in to help?

Still, I'd love to have a neat summary of all the plots currently running just to get an idea of what's going on around the city. But our recaps thread seems to have died a death in recent months.

  10. Welcome aboard, it's good to see new blood on the EU servers.

I hope you enjoy your time here.

And if you need any help with RP queries, feel free to shout.
  11. Thank you for this, nice work.

Would it be possible for you to repost this in the Roleplay section so Rpers from other servers can see it? Thank you.

Nice to see the servers so active but I'll be reserving judgement for a few months to see whether this is just a spike.

    Magic Control

Although it'll never happen, I kinda like the mad conjurer image the OP's suggestion brings to mind. Bit too limited though so yeah, work with what you've got. There's enough customisation in game to do something similar. Use Wormhole for a top hat that swallows things.

I'm reminded of a former moderator of the EU boards who had an illusion controller in top hat and tailcoat who had a series of keybinds to lines such as:

    "And for my next trick...!"

"I'll need a volunteer from the audience..."

    "Pick a card, any card!"

    Still makes me laugh.

I agree with this. As willing as I am to part with my cash for costume pieces and the occasional nice buff power, I've never really thought emotes should be part of booster packs. The ones in the GR pack (they are NOT stances, they're just fancy emotes) are questionable at best.

If these emotes are part of some Soul Train Disco Booster in the future, I sincerely doubt I would bother buying them.
  15. I am very pleased to see your issues resolved. Kudos to whoever was able to sort them out for you.

    Welcome to the EU community.

Ditto. I still love reading mine sometimes, you learn all kinds of things.

But then the EU doesn't need anything like that apparently. Because we're too 'internet savvy' and all that. :P

Would be nice if they could be available for digital download though.
  17. I really like this idea, very much so. I have a dedicated AE only character and in her journey levelling up, I've seen arcs that put many of the dev-created ones to shame with their richness and quality storytelling. I would absolutely love to see some of the best arcs become part of the game so they're lifted out of the quagmire of failed farm maps. However...

I think this is precisely the reason it will never be instituted. Not only does it raise questions about the developers' role (writer? programmer? reviewer?) the lines of ownership are kinda blurry. Technically, we don't 'own' anything in the game but it would seem to be a bit of a legal minefield when it came to using player generated content as part of the official content by putting it on the same playing field. I reckon that is why AE exists as a building: so that the player generated content can be all safely stored in there with no question over what bits the developers were responsible for.

That said, if they could iron out the legalities, I would love, love, love to see something like this come in.

    *Awesome work btw, absolutely corking.*
  20. I'll probably bring my sketchpad even though no-one will be drawing there. And the infamous t-shirt of course.

To be honest, I can't tell the difference. It gets lost in a sea of +Dam from everything else I'm packing. I've used it as a Build Up on a few spawns and it seems to do some fine buffing. After that, I can't tell.
  23. It's pretty beautiful. I've just come off of a run with my SS/Fire/Pyre Brute and I love it. The new combination of Fury+Fiery Embrace+Rage+Footstomp+Burn+Fire Ball does eat the old endurance bar a bit.

    Still, beautiful stuff devs.
