Always good to see new vict... erm... people around and about the place.
You mention that you're interested in meeting up with the RP crowd in-game on Union (good choice of server ), so here's a couple of things to mention:
1) Check out the Roleplaying Forum (down a few from the European Lounge). Lots of awesome stuff in there - most of the Union Roleplay threads say so in the title.
2) Take a read of Zortel's amazing "Hints, Tips and Tricks for new Roleplayers" in that section - even if you're an experienced RPer, it has some excellent information and advice.
3) There are three main open RP meeting locations on Union: The Galaxy Girl statue in Galaxy City ("official" start time of 9.00pm UK-time, but often a bit earlier, every day), Pocket D (pretty much any time from 8.00pm UK-time to guarantee people being there, but there might be RPers around at any time), and Studio 55 in Imperial City, Praetoria (since it generally only has people who are RPing an Alt and who would normally be at GG or Pocket D, and since it's so new, this one is (IMO) less well attended than the other two). However, RP also happens in SuperGroups, in missions, in the city, on these forums and... well, anytime. But those meets can be a good way for a roleplayer new to Union to get into things.
4) /chan_join "Union Roleplayers" and join the madness. Union Roleplayers is an OOC chat channel for, unsurprisingly, Roleplayers on Union. Used to arrange RP, call for help in missions, chat about... anything.

The changes that I have seen are all for the good so far (that I have noticed anyway). Then again I am currently playing a stalker and he can do the mandatory solo missions with not too much bother - I'd hate to try that with a defender!
Once I get Rasoma (my main character as well as global name) levelled up and over to the "main" lands I'll start work on the other alts I have waiting. That's one thing about CoH - it really does encourage alts!

Alts indeed, 30 characters here over 5 and a half or so years :S
The guide Shadowe mentioned is getting a little creeky now, I've been meaning to update it for a while, but these things fall by the wayside. There's plenty of good groups for various styles of RP both sides, and I believe there's an RP project or two springing up in Praetoria as well.

My main character did his final missions and bid a sad farewell to Praetoria yesterday. The missions were really engaging and I really wanted to stay on - I hope that there will be a chance to visit "home" again at some time.
Paragon City looks much the same as I remember it (though to be honest I can't remember it very well). Now just got to hook up with the loads of new contacts and hopefully the mission arcs will be just as much fun.
I played CoH for a few months ages ago when it was launched only on the US servers but the friends I played with went back to SWG and I joined them so I have missed out on a lot of the changes here.
I watched the development posts and site on Going Rogue with great interest - it seemed to be a wonderful idea to start off as a character who could end up blue or red. Now that I have actually been playing for a week I know that it is great!
What I love most about this game (compared to LOTRO which is the other online game I lose hours in) is the fact that it is so fast and you are able to dip in and out without any real penalty.
I'm looking forward to hopefully getting to meet up with the RP crown on Union once I can actually figure out some things and of course I have my big decision to make when I hit level 20!
