Oh, yeah. It's fine. No problem with new players getting the impression that this is what the game is all about. No biggie when they get to 50, can't properly play their characters and find out there's not much to do except more farming to grind your way to those purples. No problem at all when they leave 3 months later for another game because their experience of this game was skewed by PLers. Yeah, that's no big deal at all. Let everybody do whatever they want because they're going to find a way to do it anyway.

Let me revise a bit, then. Farming will occur. There have been new players with 50s in this game in the early issues as well and they couldn't play their characters. There are more now. Agreed Agreed Agreed. It's not good for them. Yes.

Now, the hype is dying off. Some will quit. That's not good either.

But it will happen. It's been happeneing for a while now. Life goes on.

Just as many new players to CoH are not new to MMOs and know what they're doing. Some take the scenic route, some PL.

Is it sad that some will never experience the full game before they quit? Yes, of course. But quite a few I know and speak with will stick around and love the game. Even some who jumped to 50 and found nothing there.

The game is extremely fun.

I like it the way it is right now. So do many others.

A Blaster is a ranged offensive Juggernuat dealing massive amounts of damage from range, why would I need to build on damage they already do enough. However they have low hit points and can't take a hit well. So I know that I am good a range but can't take a hit. Well if I stay at range and focus on dodging ranged attacks I am not just viable to high level enemies but taking on average groups will not be a problem.

I don't plan on taking on any AVs solo, but when I am fighting average enemies losing half of my health it sucks. Really I like the reduced down time. I am right now at about 24% ranged defense from IOs and solo I am able to swiftly move through mishes without the need of greens, resting or waiting for health to regenerate me. QoL

Also in some sets you are building up damage while building for defense. I don't do recharge because most of my attacks cycle fast enough, I guess you could for your Tier 9, but for a nuke that takes all your end not worth it me, I hardly use mine.

Yup. I die. But not often. RoTP is up and I keep chugging. At 50, debt is a joke.

I have hardly any ranged defense. I solo well unless it's more than 3 red bosses. Yeah, I guess it's just a playstyle thing.

And put me on a team with a tank or a controller... oh my.

Just wondering. I mean, I have no real defense to speak of and I guess that's weird.

I could care less. Slot for IO sets for global recharge, global damage and global accuracy, take RiseofthePhoenix and never seem to have a problem.

Yeah, I got a stealth IO and a -KB IO in hover, but I never seem to need defense. I have a buildout for it and when I switch to it, I die about as much.

Sure, if I wanna solo that AV, it's not optimal... at all. But with most combos having decent built in mitigation, why go running around trying to get global defenses capped?

Naw naw naw. I know the response. And it's very valid if you like to avoid some hot strikes, but does anyone feel like me and not consider death and damage even a speed bump?

Teams, Themes, and Help

Teams: Take that new recruit on a few fun missions with a full team. SK that lowbie for an hour and give them some pointers. Call out teams in SG Chat. Get a free forum and advertise it in message of the day. List times and events there. Teams give people a sense you want to play with their characters and them. Notice what times people come on and make a point to come on and see them.

Themes: Different people like different things. Set nights to organize AE, or Oroboros, or 50s night, or blaster night or TF night. Again, advertise them in forums.

Help: Notice members who like to organize teams and help others and promote them and help them back. They can be huge in organizing events. Tell the lowbies what to take from the base and where to find it. Let them HAVE stuff. Offer stuff in SG chat. Ask if anyone needs anything.

Make it fun, helpful and be vocal.

Also, it helps to have a stellar recruiter, but those are few and far between.

Last but not least... let other people lead. Not just an elite few. They don't have to have all the priviledges, but they do have to have a say.

Mo opinion. DO's are cheap cheap cheap with tickets and make a nice hole fill when you don't have all the ios you need before level 22.

I've heard a tell or two that the old 'perma' in the 'perma' is going to vanish. I hate to even break open a can of forum spittle on this one, but I've finally gotten my dom half way to 50 and my stupid little plan could drop into an even stupider puddle of crud water if this is true.

Anyone else hearing this or were the seven or so badflies on Pinnacle kinda losing focus?

Not excited about it. I get the idea. I see how it's cool for a lot of players. But for me? Well, I don't have all that much interest in the whole switching sides idea.

I know how shouty the responses will get but if they're going to do this, just open all the zones up to all ATs, merge the markets and make it like comic books where villains and heroes live in the same places, buy stuff at the same stores and fight on the streets.

Give the non PvPers the nice little no PvP option like some MMOs.

Packaging it with two new fictional characters that have rather cliche names and backstories and making people pay for it doesn't do it for me.

Pinnacle made me learn to use my left hand.

Going Rogue will remove all game content and allow only PvP. There will be only one zone, called Meathead Isle, and the level cap will be reduced to 10. All other characters in the regular CoH game will be deleted and made fun of.

That's how I read it.

Here's the next farm. Set a click to end. Earn 750 tickets fast, forget rest of mission, click to get bonus. Re enter. Repeat.

This limit does.... NOTHING... to reduce ticket farming.

I could care less because I need purples and tickets just aren't paying off like they did in the first week anyways. Back to ITFs, Castle Walls, and PI shows.

The problem is not farming. The problem is not anti-farming. The problem is not Mission Architect.

Here's the deal. People have vastly different opinions about enjoyable game play, but you can't make changes to a game based solely on opinion...

So, let's wait for the hype to die off, let them check the numbers, and then we can all start suggesting stuff. Until then it's just people talking junk. No one is listening. Not the other poster, not the development team, not the government.

There were far more complaints about PvP 2.0 and not much was altered by them.

Relax. Play the game. Stay out of Atlas. Buy and sell common salvage. Get on a global chat and join a taskforce or (gasp) start one of your own....

Play the game, you know? Outside of the forum mini-game?

Everyone relax and wait for the hype to cool down. Don't start asking for the removal of buildings based on two weeks of gameplay with a new issue.

For now:

1. Turn of broadcast.
2. Play in low population zones.
3. Join a frigging SG and a Global Chanel if you want good non AE tems.
4. Take a sedative and actually enjoy it as a game...

If you're this worked up playing a game, I worry about your health in real life.
