Quote:Welcome to the forums!*joins forum*
Well, for what it's worth. Here's some results from my own little testing after slotting my new alpha boost and getting the mapserver disconnect slapped in my face countless times.
As already reported, slotting down and it worked fine, going back up to the new alpha and map disconnects were back again.
So I begun to test all my powers, this being on a Plant / Earth Dominator.
And it didn't take long to notice that everytime I casted Carrion Creepers, mapserver greeted me seconds afterwards.
Logging back in, cleared two spawns without creepers. Third, tossed CC again and boom, disconnected.
Tried again, same result.
Third time I slotted back down and casted CC. This time no disconnect and kept running the map with CC constantly out. Few minutes after that I decided to slotted back into my alpha (creepers still out mind you), and right away I got disconnected.
So yeah, it's in my experience definatly some powers that are the culprint behind it. Since as long as I don't use my Creepers, I can run missions without any issue. But as soon as the power is used, I'm off the server.
Pet powers... hmmmmm. 51 plus pets causes the system to bug? maybe pets aren't programmed to handle a level higher? -
Well, mine is a DM/Will Brute. Using the costume slots, you can shapeshift. I use a change costume shortcut to go from old man, to suave business type to beast. I chose the sets for function as well as form, but Willpowwer is a bit 'shiny' for a demon. BUT, my idea of a demon incorporates using sort of currupted angelic power (see the shiny gold willpower stuff).
I haven't played him yet, due to 19.5, but he's all reserved and sitting in Praetoria... waiting. -
I five slotted Force Feedback before. I liked that better than 1 slotting. But I'm going to seriously look at Kincrash. I'll post the final build later to see the laghter of all. But I will laugh last. Oh yes I will.

Quote:Aim.A lot depends on whether you solo much. Decent defense (25-35% or so, don't need to softcap) makes a huge difference for soloing on medium difficulties (+1/x4 or so). If you have a crashless nuke then recharge can also help a lot since if you use the nuke every spawn you can generally fight larger crowds, but if you don't have a crashless nuke recharge does almost nothing beyond a certain point.
Once you have a good single target chain, more recharge will do little to help you improve DPS on hard targets since you're probably still using the same chain. Only if you add so much recharge that you can move up to a better chain does it help, for instance going from Flares -> Fire Blast -> Flares -> Blaze to Flares -> Fire Blast -> Blaze. And once you hit that higher chain you're done... you aren't getting Blaze -> Fire Blast even at the recharge cap.
Likewise, once you have your AoEs up every fight and maybe your targeted AoE up twice, do you really need more recharge? You're already wiping out the minions with AoE blasts... finishing off the Lts and bosses is more a job for your single target attacks.
Of course that's only while solo. In large teams there are generally more than enough bad guys to go around... the faster you can toss out AoEs the more you add to the team. But solo you just aren't going to need three fireballs on one spawn, unless for some reason you play at +4. What you do need is to stay alive long enough to take out a full spawn with no tank or controller mitigating their return fire... so unless you can wipe them out before they shoot (have I mentioned how much I love Rain of Arrows) you are going to want some defense if you plan to up your difficulty much.
Build Up
RoTP
Nuke
TAoEs
Holds
Conserve Power
Hasten
8 Powers I want up asap. Every bit of regen up until perma hasten is important to me.
Defense? I have inspirations for that. I keep shields and blues in my pocket for that. Those are dirt cheap (free in my case) and not always necessary.
I have a pure defense build I'm working on just for soloing EBs and x8.
I use it once a month. Once my recharge build is complete, it will be soooo much cheaper to build for defense. -
A step further.
Worst AT regardless of powersets?
Controller.

Quote:My main thing against defense is, when you die, it shuts off.This.
Kinda this. I won't say "shun" defense so much as, you need not pay it mind. I built for perma-Hasten and defense but I didn't sweat the softcap. There's always Force of Nature and Eye of the Magus and PFF and insps for when I need them and the biggies are always ready by the time I need them again.
But yes, first and foremost, your blaster is a weapon and your creed is DPS. -
Recharge works like this...
Get to perma hasten. Stop.
If not, build defense.
Recharge is a mindset. If you are not of that mindset, it's absolutely useless to you.
I slot 5 purple sets. I shun defense on my primary build.
Generally, I run in big groups. And I'm always the high damage dealer of the group. -
I'm just getting ideas here. I use the power frequently. I love recharge sets. I've five slotted it before. I've one slotted it before. It's a fun power. Just getting ideas is all.
-
I use Ice Storm every time it's up. Slotted correctly, and used after Frost Breath, it's a beast.
- Does decent DoT.
- Extra Slows on mobs
- Causes mobs to scatter.
- Everyone need slots for Targeted AoE IO sets anyways.
The other thing it does for me is 'lights up' targets so I can see what I'm dealing with. -
Quote:Well, having a third build lets me keep my prupled out recharge build and make my safety build around defense. I love my recharge build for teaming. Not so hot on it for solo, but I don't solo much anymore. It's funny you mention almost 5 sets of purples.
Here I am thinking that if I did go recharge Alpha, I might skip the purples, because the downside of purples is you can end up giving up a lot of defense. Right now my attacks are loaded with positional defense. To give those up means I get squishier, but faster. Not lots faster, because in some cases we are talking about replacing 6.25% recharge, with 10 %.
So what's the verdict? Are you keeping him this way? My thought was to keep the bonus to defense sets, and bonus to damage sets, and forgo the Purple sets. (as said in my previous post my recharge is really decent already.)
Just for an example... I'll scall the walls in Cim and pop off blizzard for an hour and I usually get one or two shards, a few orange recipes, maybe a purp here and there, and lots and lots of junk to sell, so it fits my solo style. But if I was soloing mishes with difficulty up.. meh... I'd need a totally different approach. -
Quote:Yup. I think it's worth pulling slots from some of my other powers to get there. I've got the Energy secondary too, so... maybe more than one.* Two enhancements improves your Run Speed by 3%.
* Three enhancements increases Smashing Resistance by 2.5%.
* Four enhancements provides 3 points of protection against Knockback effects on you.
* Five enhancements improves your Regeneration by 6%.
* Six enhancements improves the Recharge of all your powers by 7.5%.
All of which are quite useful set bonuses. My Energy/Elec/Fire blaster has 5 set of kin crash slotted. Most amusing and quite survivable.
Unfortunately, I was wheeling and dealing on the market and did the typically tragic wrong item bid dance, but no worries. Respec is a ways off anyhow. -

Quote:This is why I ask. I've had Force Feedback proc slotted in it for a while, and I watch my recharge number obsessively and... nothing. Ever. Was tres disapointe about that.Hrm I see what your saying.. I will have to really try to test this out then. Though for 1 slotted if I could have just bonfire up much more its a pretty great power to keep mobs away from me. But I'm going to have to do some testing for sure to see. I have it on my AR Device so my longest recharge power is Full Auto so I will have to do some timing and see. In hindsight I have Buck shot 1 slotted with one of these procs also.. SO I could have been noticing that instead. Bah, could be giving out misinformation here.. But I will check and make sure what the heck I am talking about.

Quote:Statistically, more recharge = more damage. You want your heavy hitter up every third attack. You want Aim and Buildup up after every downed mob. You want hibernate up asap. You want Frostbreath and Ice Storm on as often as possible. How would 60% recharge help?
Maybe this a dumb question but I just ask because with my toon I currently only have like 5% recharge but I'm still able to use a attack chain without having to wait.
So aside from reaching perma-hasten and blizzard recharge faster are their any other benefits to trying to get recharge up that high?
Thanks, Zoner
Even getting close to perma hasten makes a HUGE difference. If you can get 60% recharge and stay soft capped, you are golden.
If you're me, you skip defense entirely in your primary build, and crank damage and recharge to 140% with hasten up at all times, get your self rez on a short timer, use your holds and scare the crap out of other players when you decide to rip. Personally, defeat is only a speed bump. Soft cap defense is for soloing EBs and I don't do that much. -
Just to get the lay of the land, how do YOU slot Bonfire. I find it to be a super useful skill and was thinking of dropping a five or a six slot set in it.
I have three builds geared to three different specialties, so really ANY set would work in one of the builds, just looking for some cool ideas for the power itself, not the set bonuses. Get creative and make me smile for once! -
You know you play CoH too much when...
Your wife leaves you.
Your cell phone battery goes dead.
You frequent hot spots with a 7 year old lap top just to get a fix.
You end up sleeping under a bridge uncomfortably, thinking about playing more CoH.
A cop car shows up and they bring you to lock-up for a 'family intervention' about your severe gaming addiction and you scream scream scream until the give up and you go play CoH.
It's never happened to me, but I think these would be some very serious signs that you play CoH too much. -
I have been gone a very long time because I got fired from my last job for typing on the forums at work. So, I got a job doing IT and now everything is super.
It tell you this because I have teamed with Sam at least 5 times, but it was so very long ago... so long...
We were scouting the edge of RWZ, looking for shuttles. It was an 8 man/woman team with just scrappers blasters, tanks, controllers, and like 8 villains. Suddenly, my entire team disappeared into some place called "Onmissionmap". I searched high and low over the RWZ getting ganked by towers played by GMs and Devs, relentlessly pounding me. Teh team kept screaming at me in all caps, probably in German because I couldn't understand what they were saying.
Then, suddenly, a typed voice shone through the clutter... "Follow the Red Star." And lo, a star there was upon my map. And ran like a hot chiken McNugget to it and entered Onmissionmap. There was much celebration as I graciously pulled every mob on the map right over to us to make things easier for everyone.
Then we all had a nap.
We were all such good friends that no one needed to say goodbye, because we knew... we'd all be seeing each other again soon. I never saw them again. Some say I was kicked out of the group, but I know better. There was nothing left to do in the universe and so they must have disbanded entirely.
True Story. -
This is boring. I want to talk about why there's no food in game. And don't give me no hooey about emotes showing food. Emotes are not food. Only food is food.

Quote:It's a beast. A squishy beast because it's entirely built on recharge, quick kills and self rez being up 90% of the time. Once in a while, the rez is down and I get ZERO recharge bonus until I'm back up. But I carry the poor man's Insperation Rez Column just in case (wakie, brains, brawn, power and sometimes a little defense)I agree. I don't have any purples in my blaster but even I can see the simple idea of having a Nuke up more often, is better than having it up less.... but hitting for 30% more damage (for example).
I am going that route as well with my blaster. I thought about it and the idea of saving endurance is even more appealing that the damage aspect, because most of our powers aren't even close to the ED on endurance.
Think about that. Not only would you have very little endurance sucking issues, this would also allow you to run far more toggles.... toggles that allow damage, defense, and resistance. I think that's pretty powerful in itself.
The recharge means most to me. Faster build up, faster heal (aid self), faster Nuke, faster St attacks.... it's all cumulative. I can only imagine what it would be like with purple sets.
I can't solo an AV, but give me a tank and it's down instantly.
Also, remember that the Alpha slot bonus IS subject to SOME ED. So that 30% is much less than that. -
Is it on??? Is it getting ON??? Is it crunch time baby???? Guess my global handle and look me up when you need the cruch, fool!
