Try these three things:
- Open Safari and select Empty Cache from the Safari menu.
- Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal) and type or paste "dscacheutil -flushcache" (without the quotes of course) and press Return.
- Go to Users > (your name) > Library > Preferences and throw the City of Heroes Preferences in the trash.
Then launch CoH again and see if that works.
Also, email support anyway - this problem seems to be becoming a lot less rare than it should be, and I want them to be able to track it. -

Try this:
Right-click the City Of Heroes application and select Show Package Contents. Then open Contents > Resources > transgaming > c_drive, and then open "coh". After that, draw the "piggs" folder to the desktop (keep it around in case this doesn't work, you can always drag it back).
Then run the patcher again and see what happens.
Meanwhile update your ticket with support about that error as well. Hopefully they'll get back to you soon - two heads working on this are better than one. -
That's one of the larger pigg files, give it 15-20 minutes uninterrupted and see if it finishes downloading.

Update the Support ticket you created and send that same clip of the Console log you posted here to Support (they're going to need it to track this rare bug).
After you've done that, go to Users > (your name) > Library > Preferences and throw out the City of Heroes Preferences, and then empty the trash.
Then reboot, and then try to launch CoH again and see if it works or if you get the same error in the console log.
btw, do you have the Mac Mini with the nVidia 9400 or the one with the Intel GMA 950? -
Follow the instructions in my first two posts here:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=197447
...and see if any of it works. If it doesn't, then open Console (Applications > Utilities > Console) and copy (Cmd-C) the last few lines and then paste (Cmd-V) them here in a post. -
Which MacOS are you running?
Also, open a Support ticket, they have several bits of information that might help. -
Sounds like you have really slow internet. The game is a very large download - you might want to try to copy it from the DVD again, and then run CoH.
If that's too slow also, perhaps you have a higher-speed wifi location somewhere nearby, like an Apple Store, where no one will mind you downloading a patch for a little while. -
How long did you wait after it said "Downloading File Manifest"? On slower connections especially, this step can take a while (it's downloading files from the patch server) and doesn't really display much feedback while it's working.
Usually it does that when you installed from a DVD and needs to update its files before you use it.
If you still have a working PC version, I have a section in my guide (linked in the signature) at the top about how to migrate from the PC to the Mac client without waiting for much downloading. -
Those mdworker errors in your console log are a clue - you either have hard drive problems, or you had them and they screwed up an OS update.
Boot from the Snow Leopard (or was it Leopard?) disk and run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the disk (not the permissions) repeatedly until there are no errors, plus once more.
If that doesn't turn up anything obvious (or possibly if it does) you'll have to do a re-install. It'll take about 45 minutes, and then the installer will let you re-import your settings.
After that, if there are any further problems, we'll have to look into whether something being loaded at startup is corrupting the system memory. That's pretty easy to do, since on a Mac nearly all the startup stuff is stored in Library > Startupitems or in your Accounts System Preference panel.
EDIT: If you feel uncomfortable doing any of this check and see if you have an Apple Store or Apple Certified Repair Center in your area - they'll do pretty much what I outlined above without you having to worry about whether you're doing it right. -
Try re-sending the info on Monday, or better yet, update it via the web site at help.ncsoft.com instead.

I did note a "known issue" when it was first released about higher CPU usage, but due to similar notes at Apple's forums about Snow Leopard and general higher CPU use I'm not sure if it's related to that or the Cider wrapper.
I have not, however, noticed any problems using other applications...in Windowed mode (pressing Cmd-Enter during the game). If you minimize using Cmd-Tab, there have been problems using other applications for a while now - that's a known issue also. -
Some quick fixes to start with:
- Open Safari and on the Safari menu, select Empty Cache.
- Open Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
- Make sure you're using an Administrator user "Allow user to administer this computer" checkbox in the Accounts Preference Pane) to at least patch CoH, if not run it.
- Preferably also make sure you're using the same user to run CoH as you used to patch it.
- Use Get Info on the City of Heroes application. Verify that the Sharing & Permissions are set to allow your username, admin, and everyone Read & Write permission.
- If you're using a 3rd party firewall like Little Snitch make sure it's turned off during patching. -
What kind of Mac are you using this on? How much RAM is installed, and which MacOS and video processor?
If you're unsure, open Applications > Utilities > System Profiler - all that info is on the Hardware and Graphics/Displays sections.
Also, at the same time, go to help.ncsoft.com and file a support request. -
Quote:Click on the Start menu and right-click Computer. The info window that comes up will have a "System" section in there, and that will tell you if it's 32-bit or 64-bit.Ok I going try update her drivers ^_^ Thanking all of you so much for help. I going to update this incase it works or doesn't so if anyone else have this problem they knowing. Since this has Windows Vista Premium I not sure if it 64 bit or 32 so for safety I download 32bit. If anyone know if it isn't or know how to understand computer spec please let me know.
You're lucky I was staring at that screen for 2 hours this week while Microsoft figured out an activation problem I had. -

Quote:Besides what was said above (which is true, the GMA 945 *is* kind of weak for this sort of gaming) the paragraph above is the biggest clue. It means there's a problem with the Intel GMA driver installed on your computer. It's probably the one that came with Vista, which isn't very good.I also wanting add that whenever I exit to desktop, or to the log in screen then push exit button it always crashes with an error screen. This never happen on any other computer I ever play with, what is going on?? Thanks for detail!
I found an up-to-date driver download here (if the link doesn't work, I just went to the Intel.com site, clicked Support, then Drivers, Graphics, Laptop, Intel 945GM family, etc.)
Hopefully that'll improve things a *little* bit...
...But there's one thing to remember. The particular video chipset you have is a few features short of being able to display CoH properly, even if you get it to work with the right colors and crash-free. When Going Rogue comes out next year, you'll have even more trouble. Since you just bought the laptop...maybe the store has some sort of return/exchange policy? If it does, now is the time to use it.

60%-80% CPU usage is normal, both for Windows and Mac. The problems you describe though sound like a RAM shortage, which is exactly what happens when you run multiple applications at once with very little memory installed.
If you want to run that much you're probably going to need 4 GB. -
Same rules as any other critical training room patch - if it makes it to next publish day (the following Wednesday) without any serious glitches, it's usually pushed to live. If not, it's pushed the following Wednesday, etc.

Quote:I didn't see it, but then again I don't see if you use /bug. If it was posted to the forum and I saw it I would have tried to verify and then made lots of noise about it.I did report the cursor bug on the day i16 was released onto the test server. When they released it onto the live server it never showed up straight away so I thought they'd actually fixed it but no such luck so if your saying that if they'd been told about it they wouldn't have released it then they maybe ignored my report. Ummmmm
For future reference, if any of you Mac users who visit the Training Room see a genuine show-stopping critical bug* in in the Mac client before it goes to live, feel free to make as much noise about it as you can on the forums. It really will help, and if I can verify the same bug, I'll join you.
* Make sure it's a CRITICAL bug. The orange hand cursor on its own isn't likely to stop the Mac client from going to live. -
I was fairly certain the cursor jumping fix for the 3100 would trickle down to the 950. Any other graphics/cursor/video bugs with the 950 you may have to live with for the time being, since it's not really supported (unless the bug also exists with the 3100).
-
Sometimes they might mean later in the day - Training Room patches usually publish in late afternoon.

It wasn't all for nothing, I learned something important: It's something your 3 Macs have in common, but mine doesn't.
I think your best bet at this point is to talk to Apple support, especially if you have an Apple Store with a Genius Bar somewhere around (and bring CoH with you). They'll be able to see close up what I'm missing, and will use some of the same troubleshooting methods I did, except they have more resources on what might make your Japanese Mac different from the U.S. ones. -
I'm getting a slightly clearer picture now, and this may have to do with complex stuff like what language you had selected when you did the initial Snow Leopard install.
But there may be a longshot way around it:
First, make sure you have the U.S. version of CoH for Mac, not the European version. You can transplant the files inside the application using my guide, so you don't have to download them again. It's a fairly common mistake to make.
Next, Open System Preferences and then Language and Text.
On the Language pane of that panel, make sure "English" is at the top, not "U.S. English" or "Canadian English". Then make sure Japanese is second on the list. If this is how it was set, reverse the first two - Japanese first, then English.
On the Formats pane make sure Region is set to United States (if it was set to United States, try changing it to Japan).
Then try launching CoH after checking all that and see if that works.
