City of Heroes - Not Responding
Try these three things:
- Open Safari and select Empty Cache from the Safari menu.
- Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal) and type or paste "dscacheutil -flushcache" (without the quotes of course) and press Return.
- Go to Users > (your name) > Library > Preferences and throw the City of Heroes Preferences in the trash.
Then launch CoH again and see if that works.
Also, email support anyway - this problem seems to be becoming a lot less rare than it should be, and I want them to be able to track it.

OMG!!!!
THank you so so so so much. That worked. Gah i owe u big time!!
My dads computer has alot more ram so it wont lag as much as it does back at home.
Again thank you!!!
I'm going to see if I can pass this procedure along to Support, it seems to be becoming way too common an issue.

A very similar issue is happening to me, and the procedure described above doesn't seem to help.
The difference is that while sometimes the launcher doesn't show up, sometimes it starts fine, and will patch to the latest version just fine if it detects that I need an update. If I try to verify all files, however, or if I try to start the game itself, a new City of Heroes entry appears in the dock, bounces for a few seconds, and then just stops responding. I've tried reinstalling, and I've followed the procedure you documented above a few different times (just to be sure) and the game still won't start. Any ideas, or do I need to start a conversation with support?
Both. Contact Support, and also open Console (Applications > Utilities > Console) and copy and paste the last few lines right after CoH fails to a reply here.

Nothing relevant appears in the Console (all messages are easily identified as being associated with other applications; if I shut those applications down, City of Heroes still fails to launch, and nothing shows up in the Console at all). Which is the frustrating bit, really... I can't find much of an indication as to why it won't start; it just won't.

Correction - apparently sometimes it doesn't log to console, and sometimes it does. I don't think this would be a show-stopping issue, but I did get one console message when I tried to start it up later:
Code:

Even if they're from other applications the messages still might help.

What kind of Mac, graphics card, and MacOS are you running?
Also, did you throw out the City of Heroes Preferences folder as noted above? The patchserver IP is stored in there, and sometimes it stores incorrectly.

Yes, a few different times now.
I'll feel really stupid if this works, but did you reboot recently? Sometimes the wineserver process gets stuck.

Try this: Create a new user and switch to it, and then try launching CoH. Normally this might not work properly for patching, but we're testing for conflicts here. Also, don't use the Guest user.
Meanwhile, can you think of anything that might be loading at startup that CoH wouldn't like for some reason?

Nope; I'm pretty sure all the login items I have are the same ones I've had since I got the computer. I'll try disabling them, though, and see where I get.

This really helped a lot!!!!!, I just got this game and this problem was really bugging me, so thank you Cuppa Manga your my hero, you should work for Apple or maybe NCsoft.
this helped alot thx
When I click on the CoH application, it comes up on the toolbar. But nothing happens.
When i go to force quit it says that it's not responding. I've tried searching google for the answer and i can't find one. I have the most recent version of MAC so i know that's not the problem. I
've uninstalled and reinstalled the version off the website and from the CD-ROM. I'm installing it on an administers account. When i try it on a non administer as well, it doesnt work.
Please help! I'm stuck at my dad's all weekend and have nothing to do.
