For those of you that took the time to contact us by the requested deadline for your pre-order reissue, we are greatly appreciative. For those of you who did not contact us by that date but are still experiencing a need for assistance with your wrongly applied serial code, were happy to continue to assist you, but we want to be sure and update you with the current wait times you should expect for these request. Due to popularity of City of Villains, you should expect your code reissue to take as long as 72 hours to be processed from the time it is received with all the requested necessary information. We can assure you that we will continue to process these as quickly as we possibly can.
Something else to be aware of is that the reissue process will involve the permanent closure of your wrongly created account. Due to this, any character activity, including character names that have been used on that account, will be lost to you at the moment the reissue is processed.
Thanks again for your patience! -
**Note from Cuppa - This is from support. Long email short - you must have a valid game time card or credit card entered into your account and activated to be able to play - if you just took your pre-order and added the retail code that will not work - you still get the free month but you have to have payment info on file**
Please be aware that you will need to ACTIVATE your City of Villains game account with either a valid credit/debit card or prepaid game time card before you will be able to access your existing villains (if you played during the head start event) or create new ones. To activate the account, please log into your PlayNC master account here: https://secure.plaync.com/cgi-bin/plaync_login.pl. Once you have accessed your account, please scroll down to the Games List section on the Manage PlayNC Account page.
In the Games List section, you will find a table displaying all the games you have registered to the account. Find the row listing City of Villains RETAIL or COLLECTORS in the "GAME & VERSION" column. Click the button titled ACTIVATE or REACTIVATE to the right of that account in the "ACTION" column.
After clicking the ACTIVATE button, you will be directed to the Billing Options page, where you will select either one of the credit card options at the top, or the "60 days" or "Upgrade" option at the bottom. If you choose to use a credit/debit card, make sure you do not also select the "60 days" or "Upgrade" option at the bottom of the page, as doing so will deselect the credit card option you chose at the top of the page. Additionally, please be aware that all accounts activated with a credit/debit card are automatically set to recurring billing.
After you have selected your preferred billing option, click the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the page. The following page will prompt you to enter the appropriate billing information for the payment options you've chosen.
Once you've completed the required fields for the billing option of your choice, click the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the page. Please be sure you click this SUBMIT button ONLY ONCE. After your transaction has been processed, you should receive a message indicating your account has been activated. You should also receive an email stating the same, and providing your next schedule bill date. You will then be able to log into your account and begin creating villains!
Please keep in mind that you will not be billed upon initial activation of the account. Your account will be credited with 30 days of game time that were included in the purchase price of the game. Your next scheduled bill date should be 30 days from the date you activated the account. -

This thread is for posting Guide or FAQ links for Stalkers. Please create your guides in the "Player Guides" forum (since posts in that section do not roll off) and link the thread here. Also, do not post your guide in this thread - only the link to your guide. For non-Stalker guides, check the master list of all Guides in the Guide to Guides.
Failing any clear identifier from the poster, I will go by the original post date vs. Issue releases (I1: 6/30/04, I2: 9/17/04, I3: 1/5/05, I4: 5/5/05, I5: 9/1/05, I6: 10/28/05, I7:6/6/06, I8 :11/28/06) - e.g., if it was posted in March/05, it is an I3 Guide.
Guides appearing here were gleaned from links posted in one of the "Guide to Guides" threads (the Stalker GtG or the GtG threads in the "Player Guides" forum). We cannot sift through the hundreds of individual threads to find a posting, so be sure to 1) place your guide in the "Player Guides" forum, nowhere else and 2) post a link to it in a "Guide to Guides" thread!

Updated 16 April 2010.
All the links should now bring you to the first post in each guide. I updated the user names of the authors of some guides. Twilight_Snow found the "missing" guides by The_Red (who is now runothered), Tempest_56, and Smurphy. I also added her FM/EA Guide.
The powersets are now in alphabetical order, and have an icon beside their name to help people who do better with a visual representation of a powerset.
With the exceptions of Claws and War Mace, every powerset now has at least two guides.
Issues are colored similar to the game's Consideration System: [I16] is white, [I15] is blue (cyan, actually, so that it will show up on the Hero skin), [I14] is green, [I13] is grey, and [I12] and all issues before it are black. -
Dear City of Villains customers,
It has recently come to our attention that some Collectors Edition boxes may be missing one of the seven HeroClix figures. We are thoroughly investigating this issue, and we will update this page early next week with information and instructions.
In the mean time, it is critical that you retain your retail receipt, as we will require a copy of it in order to send you the missing HeroClix figure.
We are very sorry for this inconvenience.
Sincerely,
The City of Villains Team -
The boards will be going down soon for 2 hours to do some maintenance. We apologize!
-
Everyone!
For the headstart tonight - if you can log in to City of Heroes AND you have upgraded your CoH account with the special Pre-Order Disk Code - then you are SET! No additional downloads. (I6 had all the CoV content in it)
**Reminder - You must have purchased and applied a special CoV Pre-order disk box code to play tonight. Just because you may have gotten the regular or DVD edition early does not mean you will get in tonight. You must have purchased the special pre-order box (5-10$) and applied that code to your account.
EDIT - It starts at 11:01 PM Central! -
Hello everyone, I'm very pleased to announce that character transfer from the US to EU servers is now available for no charge.
Customers transferring from the US servers to the EU servers will have an EU game account created as part of the transfer process, to which they can transfer their characters - so you don't even need to purchase CoH in Europe to take advantage of character transfer.
To transfer your characters, you will need to login to PlayNC.com using your Master Account which contains any existing US characters. These characters can then be transferred to any City of Heroes (Europe) account that's part of the same Master Account.
Full details on character transfer are available in the City of Heroes Knowledge Base. Please review the following articles carefully:
Can I transfer characters from my US City of Heroes game account to the City of Heroes (Europe) servers?
I have or do not have X type of account. Can I still use the Character Transfer service?
Also, you should review the thread here on the EU boards where the EU staff is answering questions.
Please read these articles very carefully. There is a lot of information in them, and we feel they will answer almost all of your questions about character transfer.
If after reviewing these articles you still have questions about character transfer, please submit a ticket to the Account Support team.
A special note for anyone considering purchasing City of Villains in Europe: If you already have a City of Heroes (US) account, but would like to purchase City of Villains in Europe, login to PlayNC, and transfer your characters to the European servers before you use a CoV Activation Code. Then use your CoV Activation Code (found in the retail box) to 'Upgrade' your new CoH (Europe) account; you'll be ready to play City of Villains with 12 character slots, plus your transferred CoH characters.
Thanks for your patience on this; we're extremely glad character transfer is finally here, and I hope many of you take advantage of it.
And a big welcome to new players of City of Heroes in Europe. -
In preparation for CoV launch, the servers will be undergoing extended maintenance from 5 am to 10 am Central Time Friday, Oct. 28 2005. We thank you for your patience during our upgrade process.
-
Please carefully read the instructions below to download City of Villains for the head start. To find out how to set up your per-order PlayNC account, please read this post.
If you HAVE City of Heroes:
- Launch City of Heroes.
- When the head start begins, open City of Heroes. There might be a small patch but after that you should be ready to play.
- On the Character Creation Screen, select an empty character slot and you will be given the choice to create a hero or a villain.
- Select villain and you will be ready to play in the City of Villains head start!
You must have applied the special pre-order CoV Disk!
If you do NOT HAVE City of Heroes:
- Download the ZIP file here.
- Extract both files into the same directory. You may create any directory you want, we recommend a directory entitled cityofvillains.
- Once you have extracted the files, double-click CoVUpdater.exe to begin downloading/installing the client.
- After the download is complete, you will need to double-click the CoVUpdater.exe to launch City of Villains.
Note: To make launching CoV easier, you can create a shortcut on your desktop to CoVUpdater.exe. -
Attention Pre-Order Customers!!!
Those of you who pre-ordered City of Villains and may have wrongly applied your serial code (as a new account through the ADD GAMES button) instead of upgrading your existing City of Heroes account (through the UPGRADE button) are still in luck!
As a reminder, only customers who have UPGRADED their existing City of Heroes account will be able to take advantage of the combined subscription rate for both products.
If you mistakenly made a new account instead of upgrading, then you will need to contact Customer Support about a possible reissue of your pre-order serial code. If eligible, the process will entail the permanent closure of your stand alone previous pre-order account and a new code being reissued to use with the UPGRADE button on your existing City of Heroes account.
It is critical that you contact Customer Support IMMEDIATELY about this to ensure that they have the minimum 24 hours needed to process your code reissue request before the City of Villains pre-order head start.
Any tickets submitted for this issue after 11:59pm PST of Wednesday, October 26th, may not be processed in time for the head start. Tickets received and processed after that time will likely result in any head start game activity being lost as the account that was played will be permanently blocked as part of the reissue process; including character names you may have already used.
To assist Customer Support in processing these requests as quickly as possible, we are asking that you specifically follow these instructions for submitting your support ticket. You can do so by visiting http://support.plaync.com/ and using the Ask a Question tab or by emailing support@plaync.com
Be sure to use the SUBJECT: CoV Pre-Order Reissue
Be sure to include the following additional information:
PlayNC Master Account Name:
Your Real Name:
20-digit City of Villains pre-order serial code that you used:
Game Account name you created:
Game Account name you intended to upgrade:
Thank you! -
The policy described here - http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showf...Number=3845194
will go into affect on Thursday morning, October 27th. Due to this change, the maintenance window for Thursday morning will be extended from 6am to 10am central. -

Hello folks. I'm very pleased to announce that US to Europe character transfer - the process of moving your City of Heroes character from one set of servers to another - is finally going to be available to players soon. We are currently on track to have this service available before the launch of City of Villains.
This means that anyone in Europe who has an active or inactive account on the City of Heroes (US) servers should be able to transfer their existing characters to the City of Heroes (Europe) servers. They'll benefit from lower ping servers, a fully localised game (French/German) and of course, being able to find teammates at more European friendly times.
For anyone who has already 'made the leap' and joined us on the European servers after playing on the US servers, you will be able to bring your previous characters across to join your new heroes. For anyone who has wanted to join the European servers but didn't want to leave their high-level characters behind, this is the solution.
Now, if you want to stay in the US - that's cool. EU players will be able to purchase US CoV online via the plaync online store when CoV launches but it is your choice where you want to play.
We will have much more information on character transfer available next week, but we wanted to let you know the good news early.
As final details and documentation are still being worked on, we can't answer all of your (no doubt many) questions on character transfer just yet. Please bear with us; we'll answer everything we can in time.
Rest assured though... character transfer is coming.
Thanks for your patience. -
Due to the Free Expansion Issue #6 "Along Came a Spider" that is now available for download prior to being released on the live servers, players may be experience longer than average connection times, slow patch downloads or may be unable to connect to the updater. We are looking into ways to reduce these issues and hope to resolve all connection problems soon.
The download will begin after you exit your play session rather than prior to entering the game, and is purely optional you can cancel at anytime.
Its important to note that you wont be able to see or experience the Issue 6 content until it has been officially released on the live servers. However, receiving it ahead of time will allow you to play right away once the content is available, instead of waiting for a large patch to download. Once Issue 6 goes up on the Test Server players in CoV beta will only have minimal patching if they choose to load the test server instead of CoV Beta or if they want to switch between the two.
Remember you can cancel the download at anytime. Your progress will be saved and you can resume downloading the content the next time youre done playing City of Heroes. -

Please join me in welcoming _Nomad_ to our Forum Car... um, CoH Forums!
_Nomad_ is joining us as a new Moderator - spanning both Good and Evil forums, loyal only to the letter of the law.
From this point on, you should contact _Nomad_ via PM regarding any/all moderation issues... thats what shes here for. She should NOT be contacted about game issues. All game issue PMs to her will not be answered.
Game issues, community issues, pretty much everything BUT moderation issues still come to me, CuppaJo. -

You know this is annoying, the COV beta uses the same directory as the TC so I can only realistically do one or the other.

Once I6 hits test the patches for CoH and CoV will be almost the same so the patch back and forth from test to beta will not take the huge amount of time it does now. It will (supposedly) be much smaller. -

So, I was part of a pickup team the other night, fighting Frozen Chrysalis in a door mish over in Devon Downs. Mainly the Wingwalker minions, with a few of those nasty Umbrial lieutenants, but no sign of the Crushed Tarsis bosses.
I was playing my level 12 Spotter, with both Sever and Mandated Insignia fully slotted for Transience, and a full tray of Cognizance and Protrusion insps.
We also had a level 11 Cracker (Invention/Mandibles), a level 13 Soma (Density/Polarity), and another Spotter, but level 11 Adhesion/Tension. Nice rounded team, right?
We clear out a room on the third balcony, go up the last ladder, and there's a Mancusan Dentrid, bristling with shiv-shooters, and we're like Huh? The Soma went down after one swipe. I laid down Submersion to buy us some time, but the Cracker and the other Spotter hardly had time to get in one hit before they got wiped too. I headed for the ladder, but face-planted before I took two steps.
So, is this normal? Do you usually see Mancusans on this mission? Is there some connection between the Frozen Chrysalis and these guys? Or was it just some random event?
Just curious.

Actually this is a bug. Mancusans are only supposed to spawn in Telenphier Conax missions. It will be resolved in the next server fission. -
Please be advised that US City of Heroes servers will be down on
Wednesday Oct. 12, 2005, from 3 AM until 5 PM CDT.
Thank you for your patience during this period. -
Starting 10/27/2005 the City of Heroes and City of Villains character name policy will change. Names for characters under level 35 on game accounts that have been inactive for over 90 days will be changed to unreserved status. This means that those names will become available for new character names if picked by an active player. This policy is being enacted in order to free up character names based on player feedback.
If your game account is inactive for over 90 days and you reactivate your account you will need to log back in to any characters affected by this policy to move them out of unreserved name status. If your old character name has been taken by an active player, the game will prompt you to rename your character. You will be given only one opportunity to rename your character. It is possible that your character name may still be the same if an active player has not chosen to use that character name. Your global handle will not be affected.
All characters in an unreserved name status will be shown in your character selection screen; however, their photo will not be shown, indicating that they are in unreserved name status.
If you do not log into the game with a character in unreserved name status, the characters name will remain available to any active player until you log that character into the game. Logging into the game with the affected character will change the characters name status back to reserved.
Any questions about this policy can be directed to support@cityofheroes.com
***Edited to add - Inactive means that you have stopped billing and your subscription time has run out OR your account has been suspended. *** -
It is my great pleasure to introduce our new City of Heroes Web Content Writer/Editor Arctic_Sun! Arctic_Sun will be taking over Gilgamesh's role here on the boards and on the website bringing all fine Paragon City heroes new information on issue updates, news announcements, villain groups, and the impending rise of villain activity across the city.
Please join me in welcoming Arctic_Sun to the community. Maybe he will be kind enough to share with you some of his own intriguing back story. -
Gilgamesh has a replacement, though no one will ever be able to fill his shoes. You will be missed Gil old friend.
Awry has captured the new guy and is torturing him as we speak. I will rescue him later this week so that he can post a hello.
