Haven't really wrote out a whole set just kinda made . I've really wanted to see a high tech rifle like a laser rifle. I think it would be cool to have a rifle that shoots blasts similar to what the robot mastermind's pets can shoot. Some set that could use the laser bursts, plasma blast, and photonic grenade. If the devs are looking for something that breaks the mold maybe a version of the peacebringer's photon seekers, name them hunter killers or something similar, could replace aim but be placed later in the set at the 8th power.

Quote:The game really doesn't begin at 50 though even with the new incarnate content. Some people will see it that way but really the only benefit to playing the game with a 50 compared to a 25 or 10 at their level is you will have more enhancement slots. In fact that power advantage is why I prefer playing my 50s and leveling my alts up as fast as possible. There are few things (none that I can think of) that you can't go back and do as a 50. I prefer exemping down to play the content.Yeah, I'm kinda of sad about that. Up until now, City really hasn't had or needed the "game begins at 50!" mentality, and so PLing is really just either lazy noobs who don't realize the game doesn't actually begin at 50 like the other MMOs out there where they only back-end add content and invalidate everything they added before, or people who've got 1000 alts and want to get past a certain set of levels (I'd love to just start at 22, to me the game begins there and everything before that is just leveling to get there).
Now there's an actual, tangible rewarding reason to get to 50 as fast as you can, a system you can't participate in until 50, and that's where they're going to be adding new content for a while. We're going to see a LOT more exploits and PLing for a while I think.
This goes to the people who say its about the journey not the destination. 50 isn't the destination for those like me. The destination is being able to go back and journey at my prefered level of power. -
I have two plant/storms, each on different servers. They are similar to earth and yet different. One of them I crossed over to the rogue isles and got Mako as my patron. I thought my hero was overpowered. Opening salvo when I feel like being mean is seeds/vines, freezing rain, roots, tornado, lightning storm, waterspout, roots, tornado. Got my recharge to the point where for a short time I can have 2 tornados and the waterspout out. Thats fun though it may not be the best in terms of dps. That and a lot of teams get mad when you do that on a cave map since no matter how attentive you are to reapplying you immob some still manage to avoid it and get themselves knocked through the geometry.
-
Quote:The plant immob isnt to hard to work with since snow storm can ground flyers. You would have done fine, Outback, either way you went. Both are a lot of fun to play.
When you unleash Tornado and/or Lightning Storm, it is a good idea to spam the AoE Immob to keep baddies from getting flung Hither and Thither. Tornado can really grind a baddie down when it does not have to chase them. You will find that the Earth AoE Immob is a bit easier to use because it will work on airborne baddies, whereas the baddies need to be close to the ground for the Plant AoE Immob to be able to hit them.
I have taken Earth/Storm to 50 twice and Plant/Storm to 50 once. Lots of enjoyment with those guys. -
I started my new job today yay! Working part time seasonal help at a jewelry store. I actually get to wear nice clothes and this will be my first winter since I entered the workforce that will be worked indoors another big YAY! So far my Monday has been a Yayday!

I may be able to offer a different viewpoint.
I like games that have a huge amount of needless background information in them like DAO or ME but I dont always have the time for them because I'm kinda OCD about picking up and finding everything at least on my first playthrough. Its even worse when there is some kind of signal that I've missed something like the blinking menu options on the ME menu screen. They keep blinking at me! So I've got go through and view all those codex entries so the damn thing will quit blinking at me. Everything must be neat and tidy damnit. So ya when I don't have the time to play one of those games I usually go for an action game or this one since I've already done all the exploring and lore reading I need to.
I'm not actually that bad about it, I exagerated a little bit for emphasis and comedic effect. On the second playthrough of things like DAO I don't stop to check any of that out. ME's menu is just bad because it fricken keeps blinking at me! -
Doh never mind me then. Always seems like on the rare occasion that I do have a good idea its already been done. damnit

I have no idea how hard this would be but as a reward for getting to 50 I think it would be cool to be able to place your character on the login screen. I'm not sure how a tool like that would work but my guess would be you take a screenshot and then tell the game to use that screenshot as the background.
One of the best things about this game is the level of customization available so why not add one more thing to the list. -
Played it, it was good but the one I hinted at, if they ever release it(its been in development for years), should make all the others I've seen look like the old X-Wing vs Tie Fighter games.
Edit: and yes it seems to have that sense of scale. +space fights on the scale of the assault on the second death star -
Hrm I didn't notice PC Gaming wasting away. Maybe my favorite genre, Spaceflight/fighter sims, but not the whole thing. Which on the topic of spacefighter sims there is one I would sign a legally binding NDA to help make a reality. Cant name names but lets just say I would jump over the gate to help its evolution along.

I must have been tired when I posted. I guess my contribution to the discussion is that a competent, friendly GM who keeps the game moving and friendly players are going to make a much bigger difference for new players and their likelihood of continuing to play RPGs than any system will. It has been my experience that the system and setting only comes into play with the type of adventure the new players would like to play. Some people like super heroes and villains (IE all of us here), others like modern supernatural like the WoD setting, and still others like sword and sorcery.

Yay I just recently found a group to play D&D 3.5 with here in my town. It has been two years since my last group broke apart due to lay offs, finding better jobs, and moving to said jobs. The best part is I may get to DM again. I can't wait! I've got to get all my supplies ready again.
Oh ya on the arguement of Roleplay vs Roll-play usually a mix is better. I don't care if the mechanics favor one or the other. Some players will get bored if there is too much roleplaying and not enough dice rolling and vice versa. The best way I found was to streamline combat a bit, since anyone who has played D&D 3.5 can tell you it sometimes takes over an hour. As long as the game doesn't stagnate on either side its usually entertaining for all. The other thing I do is use 3x5 notecard with the player's name on it to keep track of accomplishments and good roleplaying. I also tally up exp on the card and give it to the player at the beginning of the next game session. Its an easy way to calculate exp and gives the player a cliff notes version of the last session if they want to keep a character history.
I reward good roleplaying in order to encourage it but its not always exp rewards. Sometimes it is items or extra quest opportunities. At the same time I also encourage quick, efficient combat so there can be more of it. I make combat easier by having round by round tactics for each enemy group, and by encouraging players to come up with round by round tactics for their character. It helps prevent players spending 3-4 minutes deciding what they are going to do. My goal in combat is to keep non-spellcaster turns down to about 30-40 seconds and spellcaster turns to about 60-90 seconds. It helps keep combat down to about 5-15 minutes instead of an hour. Good grief I hate it when it takes a group 30 minutes to an hour to deal with an encounter that is maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of their level. No DBZ combat. -
This may have been brought up a while back before the purge but its to awesome to not bring up and link to.

Yeah most everything taken has been for the damage buff. You were right though on body armor those slots weren't needed there. I removed two of them and placed them in stamina to slot another perforamnce shifter set. I also changed out the remaining slots in body armor to an Aegis +psi res and +mez res and an Impervious Skin +mez res. That upped the +damage to 42% with assault on. That plus the recharge has put this build as close to pre ED damage slotting and perma hasten as I think I can get. I've got 5 3% dmg buffs, 5 2.5% damage buffs, and 1 4%dmg buff. I think thats gonna be as good as it gets. Thanks for pointing out the body armor slotting to me, not sure what I was thinking.
Here's the further tweaked build:

I've got one. Spoilers for the books I'm talking about in the next paragraphs.
Darken Rahl from Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. Classic but not classy bad guy. He's made pacts with the lord of the underworld, convinces children to fall in love with him, kills them by feeding them hot molten lead, and then uses their tortured souls to traverse the afterlife. That is just some of what he does to other people. Richard, his son (unbeknowst to either since Richard is a **** child), is captured during his quest to stop him, tortured to the brink of death several times, and finally has a spell cast on him that makes his friends only see him as their enemy. It is much more detailed than that and that is just the first book. The next book Darken Rahl comes back from the grave, places a curse on Richard which will drag him into the hellish, darkest regions of the underworld, basically right next to the Keeper of the Dead, and continues trying to destroy the world. -
Thanks MegaMan but I would still slot fitness if I got it as an inherent so the only difference would be that I'd have the stealth, grant invis and invis in there with LotG 7.5s in them.
Is my build so different from the norm that no one can suggest any improvements? -
I'm building a Assault Rifle/Electricty Manipulation blaster. Im working on a mix of damage, recharge, and accuracy. So far with a little tweaking I've gotten the recharge to 53.8%, the accuracy to 56%, and the damage to 39.5%. I'm not going for survivability so I haven't slotted for defense at all. Can anyone suggest improvements? Here's the mids build:

Assault rifle blaster. It is one of the most versatile sets. It is not however a top performance set. Do not take devices with it. You want build up. My personal favorite out of the secondaries is elec manip. Most encounters (+1 to +2 level difficulty set for one person) its build up, snipe a minion, burst and slug on another minion, and electric fence, beanbag (or shocking grasp by itself) and ignite on the last minion. As a plus when you do get the itch to join a group you can hose things down with flamethrower, m30 grenade, buckshot, and full auto. An added benefit of being elec manip is power sink. Its a free endurance bar every 60 seconds if you've got 4 enemies to leech from without any slotting. If 6 slotted with 3 end mod and three recharge its a free bar with just 2 enemies every 30 seconds.

You know Hugo Strange or Prometheus would be interesting villains to include in a batman movie.

Quote:You could but then you'd realize I could have the power to turn into any fictional character gaining all their abilities. I'd turn into Hermes Conrad and use my grade 34 bureaucrat super powers to fill out that paper work so fast that you'd think I forgot to sign and date the last page... until you realized that I did.hrm, i wonder if i could get bureaucracy as a super power.
"Halt! you can't steal that TV, without filing the proper paperwork!"
Thanks for the TV man! -
Quote:Quit attacking your new strawman and pay attention. I gave you the chance to have a fun theoretical discussion on the cause and effect of legalizing drug use and you first try to tell me what I said without even reading my post and second try to use the taxation of a product to continue the debate on your terms after I invalidated your first statement. How is taxing something right in the first place. it's a ******** way to try to control a population and that is not something government should be doing.
No Sir!
Taxation is a method of funding government. The only instance I can think of where taxation is a method of controlling a population is that when you don't pay it as a consequence you are fined or imprisoned. There is a similar consequence for breaking any other law. Are you suggesting that a government should also not be enforcing other laws like the ones that fine or imprison people for stealing your stuff or assaulting you? Those are another way to control a population and by your statement "not something govenment should be doing." I bet though that if someone were to break in to your home, knock you out, and steal all your stuff the very first thing you would do once you woke up is call 911 or the police.
Don't insult my or your own intelligence with these fallacious arguements. Your better than that. -
Okay here is a rework using some of the existing in game code. It will require some work I'm just not sure how much since I haven't done any computer programming since high school. Take the current time bomb psuedo pet, make it targetable like oil slick arrow, increase its hp dramatically so it can't accidentaly be set off by another player, half its set up time, remove the timed detonation, have the psuedo pet last as long as the trip mine psuedo pet, and put a triggering element in the power that can be set off by one other specific power. Have selecting the "remote" bomb power grant a remote power who's only purpose is setting the bomb off by satisfying the remote bombs trigger condition. If used on anything else the power fails. The remote should recharge fast 4-10 seconds and be unaffected by recharge buffs. It should be possible to have more than one "remote" bomb out so long as it keeps its current recharge. This will also prevent it from becoming broken as its current recharge of 6 minutes will ensure that a person with SOs will only be able to put two out and person with a recharge IO build will only be able to get 2 out faster. This will also allow for cunning multi-stage traps for those devious players who are into that.
I think this also keeps to the cottage rule in that the power still does the same thing, damage and a lot of it. It would just do the damage when you want it to not after some arbitrary time limit.
