Gee, I guess I'd have to vote for PvE.

Oh, wait, that's not an option.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It seems highly likely that they left PvE off because they already know that PvE is going to be a focus going forward, they're just looking for info on where else to look.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The question is rather specific: What do you like most?

My answer, as is MANY others', fails to be on the list. If your supposition is accurate, then they should have just come out and stated that.

Cricket's post says right up front:

Your favorite overall game aspect may not be listed, but please, choose your favorite from the list

    [/ QUOTE ]
They know they have left off a bunch of stuff and acknowledge it. I'm not sure what the issue is.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
I would have picked PvE Combat if that was an option, which it should have been IMO.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Same for me, although it sounds like ommissions in the poll were deliberate.

I chose the various enemy groups. One of the things I really liked the first time I played through CoH was encountering new groups and discovering what they could (or couldn't) do. I still enjoy the variety with the enemy groups, even if some of the higher-level ones tend to rely a bit on the one-trick pony of status effects.

Storyline and costumes would follow closely from the items listed.
  3. Tart and Vixen are in Port Oakes, on the balcony of a building not too far off from Drea the Hook.

The only reason I know this is because I got "invited" by one for the first time while playing a lowbie alt tonight.
  4. I don't know if I'm in the minority or not, but I'd like to see the devs make some minor improvements to bases and, of course, fix existing bugs but otherwise just let them be and focus their manpower on other things that would benefit the game and the playerbase more.

I'm not saying they're "good enough", just that I don't think continued extensive investment in them is the best use of resources at this point.
  5. Bloops. Well, I stand corrected. I had no idea one system had supplanted the other.

But that still begs the question...anything coming for level 50s in Issue 8 (new contacts/missions)?
  6. No, they're separate systems.

    Inventions = crafting
Legends system = level 50 content

There may be some overlap, but they aren't the same thing.
  7. That's not a bad idea.

I really have to question the wisdom of this Wal Mart exclusivity deal. Aside from the complete screw up that the release has been, I don't think this was a smart decision. How likely is your average Wal Mart customer to play MMOs? I would submit that they are far, far, less likely to be into MMOs than people who shop in places like EB Games and the like. Just because Wal Mart has a wide reach, I don't think its really going to reach the sort of audience that is interested in MMOs.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Agreed.

Going with the usual distribution to all retailers (Best Buy, EB, etc.) would likely have gotten the game into a lot more new players' hands. Wal Mart is a big retailer but apart from "soft" titles like The Sims, how much do they sell to the more hardcore MMO player? I've never bought a game there, myself.

People keep saying we were promised two development teams, one for CoH and one for CoV but keep overlooking a major point -- this only applied while CoV was in development. Cryptic apparently had no plan to maintain separate teams after CoV had launched. While they may have not made this particular policy clear from the outset to the playerbase, Statesman did admit this was the way they had operated in a post to this forum sometime within the last few months or so.

So, really, the "we were promised two dev teams forever and ever" argument ought to be quietly buried.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's not the argument. The argument is that there was never ever a separate development team. Geko and Statesman were all over the place in the CoV development and what little bulk up in staffing that occurred, after the financial stuffing that NCSoft took when City of Villains didn't sell enough, a number of developers were quietly let go.

It happens, it's unfortunate and I had wished that CoV had sold better. It's just that we heard this line before. That's all, I'm not cancelling my subscription. I've got too many friends in the community. That doesn't mean I don't see the writing on the wall.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I was just stating what the devs have said regarding two dev teams. What people believe is up to them.

    1) An approximate or target date for I8 would have been nice
    2) If the "big deal" for I8 is wings & costume pieces... thats sad
    3) No mention of Kheldian sashes
    4) Need more info on I8

    [/ QUOTE ]
    1. The Euro CoH site lists November 2006, as does Cryptic's own website. Why the North American CoH website doesn't, I cannot say.
    2. There's the revamped Faultline, police band missions and safeguard missions among the announced features, so it's not just wings and costume pieces.
    3. True dat.
    4. I concur! The I8 game update was nearly a month ago. Apart from Veteran Rewards, we've had nothing official released since.

I suggest that people try to wean themselves off the free respecs. I suspect we will see fewer of them in times to come, as the devs seem to feel that they've made enough truly major power adjustments. Future changes may not be enough in their eyes to warrant a respec, particularly if respecs are made available through the Vet Rewards system.

Take a careful look at the changes. Do they break your character? For example, what would you do with a respec for the flight changes, move a slot or two to another power? Can you honestly say that those two slots radically change your gameplay?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I hope the devs do continue some sort of regular free respec. While I don't use most of them, it is fun (yes, fun! ) to be able to mix up your character's powers a bit and try something new, to give it a kickstart, a fresh look -- not to min/max or optimize for PvP or gain influence/infamy, just simply to have some new powers to play with.

If wanting that is a bad thing, then I am a bad person. And I like it.

Free respecs introduced in January 2005, with Issue 3.

Issue 3 - free respec given
Issue 4 - free respec given
Issue 5 - free respec given
Issue 6 - free respec given
Issue 7 - free respec given

Note: some respecs were given shortly before an issue release, some shortly after.

The devs should just say what their policy is. "No, we do not plan to give out free respecs every issue" or "Yes, we will be issuing a free respec with each issue" or "We won't be giving out free respecs every issue, but we might be giving out free punch and pie".

    Easy peasy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Acually they HAVE said what their policy is try checking their old posts before complaining.

They give free respecs when there is a change to the game or builds which would significantly effect players such that they may need to respec their characters. They may also give them out as a reward such as deemed fit by the Devs such as Christmas/Anniversary or CoH etc. But don't count on those they are at Devs whim.

I8 doesn't have any changes to game play or changes to sets so there is no reason for a free respec. I felt it was obvious there would be no free respec.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I wasn't complaining. Most of my characters have unused respecs.

The developers have never stated a consistent, clear policy on free respecs. I'm just suggesting that there is no harm in doing so -- unless they have no policy, of course.

And Issue 8 will likely launch near the anniversary of CoV's release, so I could understand why someone might expect an "anniversary respec".

Some people get worked up over the darndest things.

  15. Excellent news on all counts. Thanks for the update.

Strangely enough, I learned to play the game just fine before The Hollows even existed. How did I ever manage such a thing?
  17. I see player apartments as a space players can shape and call their own, an anchor that helps bond them to the game world in a way that isn't possible now. It's also, by extension, a way to customize the character, particularly in a game that is fairly light in the loot department.

Would I like to see them? Yes. At the expense of something "better"? No.

But they could be given greater purpose if the devs were inclined to do so. Would it be a wise investment of their time? Hard to say.
  18. Hermod, a lot of your ideas for the side missions seem about right. Most of them can be fairly easily "flipped" to work for heroes. As for the main point of safeguard missions, I don't know. Honestly, trailing around villains and trying to prevent mayhem doesn't sound nearly as fun to me as causing it. Yeah, it might be stretching things a bit to give heroes a legit reason to rampage...but they could do it.

I will weep if they find a way to use the Arachnos maps, though. I hates them.

As soon as they add that feature I will skip every single hunt mission.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know one type of mission I'll definitly drop: "Go see representative for PVP Zone X"...

Don't you just hate when you have to go from deepest Brickstown or Founder's Fall to Kings Row and back, just so that you can be given a lecture about a feature in the game you know about since forever, while your team is badgering you all the way with "Lets get on with a real mission! Aren't you done yet?" etc...

    Fixed if you have:

    - City of Villains
    - a supergroup
    - a supergroup base
    - enough teleporters and beacons to cover this situation

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Fixed!

Wouldn't the ability to drop missions make it easy for people to skip the ones they don't want?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Why would this be considered a negative?
  21. The forums and by extension, the game will be diminished without your presence.

You have done a thoroughly excellent job and I know what a circus moderating a forum can be. Good luck with the Tabula Rasa community.
  22. Supergroup Message of the Day: "It is currently impossible to move around in the base due to every square inch being covered in potted plants, jars of brains, tables, chairs and modern art. This is by design. Yours in villainy, Fearless Leader."
  23. I wonder what the devs are going to do regarding base upkeep now. My villain SG suddenly finds itself with over 1.3 million prestige but the number of active players is only about five or six people and we do not play every day. How much of that bonus prestige will be eaten up by "upkeep"?

It would be rather ironic if our base got locked because this gift ended up putting it beyond our means.
  24. It's in every hospital in CoH (but not in CoV).
