Cool to at least see some of this. I can't express how excited I got when when I found out they were adding Lua scripting.

Very true. I plan to be logged on when the shutdown happens. On both my accounts... hell make that 4 -- I'll bring the 2 freems too. They're going to have to /kick me by force.

Keep your client files around and don't delete them. Better yet, download the I24 beta client.

Some of it (especially the secret project) may be covered under NDA agreements with NCSoft and they may not be able to without opening themselves up to lawsuits, loss of severance package if there was one, etc.

Best of luck to you, sir. Though I may not have always agreed with the Marketing department's view on things (and I'm sure I wasn't alone there ;-)), I have the highest respect for you guys and the work you did.
A game may begin with the bits and bytes, but its soul is something beyond the sum of its parts. This is a game that has a lot of soul, and I have no doubt that it started with the developers who poured their hearts into it.
I think you all got a raw deal, and I sincerely hope that your next job ends up being something even better. -
Quote:It's server side.True. However, we all already have the client program. I don't know if mission data text is stored client side or server side, but if it is client side, you are not actually copying anything if you reverse engineer the server to talk to the existing clients. Unless there is something copyrightable that we would have to send to the client from the server side, an emulated server wouldn't be violating copyright unless someone got their hands on the original source and included it somehow.
The contact dialog and NPC chat used to be localized client side, but around the time when the SSAs started coming out, they removed it from the client and it now only exists server side. Probably were worried about the big "WHO WILL DIE?" reveal being spoiled (and then they went and did that themselves...). -

Pretty sure they're in a Dallas datacenter, actually, but would have to double check.

I'll say this: While I'm not overly optimistic about the effort (just thinking about all the intangibles ncsoft is planning to write off by doing this...), this is by far, the singular most passionate and united community I've ever seen in a video game. If anyone can pull off something like this, it's the CoH fans.
So let's get to work. -
Quote:It's written in Ruby? O.oAny coders who want to help, look at segs.nemerle.eu/forumz
Starting another COH emulator when one has already made (very little) progress is foolish. We don't have much time to gather the information on server traffic we need, so we need to get a bunch of coders interested in this NOW.
Yeah, that's gonna scale well... -
Quote:Yeah, ran into this as well, stupid old Aion account attached and the page is busted.I'd love to put this code in but whenever I login to plaync I just get the "Migrate Now" or "Migrate Later" option and when I choose Migrate Later, nothing happens
Applying it in-game (Store / My Account) worked and I suggest spreading knowledge that you can do that to anyone who is having this issue. -

Yes, it does stack, if you have multiple sources of it. Single powers may or may not stack with themselves, check the detailed power info to be sure. It stacks linearly, so a -20% and a -30% debuff will result in a final damage reduction of 50%. As mentioned above, it also "stacks" with +DMG (technically it's the same thing, just negative). So if the target has damage buffs, it'll counteract those before it starts reducing damage. (+100% buff from Build Up - 50% debuff = +50% relative to base damage).
What I didn't see answered or asked is what the caps are. The low end of the cap is 10% strength in almost all cases*. That means you can stack up to -90% damage (de)buff, and the target will only do 10% of the damage they normally would. **
* The cap is 10% for all player ATs and nearly all NPCs. The Rularuu AV in the Cathedral of Pain Trial has a 50% cap below which it cannot be debuffed.
** Note that some powers, like Tyrant's Flow Lightning, ignore debuffs (and that one does a fixed percentage of the target's max health anyway). These are fairly rare, but also mean they don't benefit from buffs either, like the +DMG he gets from absorbing Olympian Guards. -

Ahhh, 'arresting' street thugs with a chainsaw. Good times, good times.
(seriously, I was skeptical about the whole 'post-apocalyptic' idea, but these pieces look amazing) -
Quote:The ship has long since sailed, but IMO they should have gone the other direction with Atlas. Skyscrapers at all in Atlas seem out of place to me, be they old or new. The modern towers should be in Steel as you said, but Atlas to me seems like it should be something similar to the feel of Washington, D.C. -- lots of shorter buildings but no skyscrapers. IIRC D.C. limits the height of buildings to 5 or 6 stories max so as not to block the view of the monuments. As far as I'm aware, it was supposed to look shiny and new years and years ago, which is why I thought the retro-sci-fi weird architecture made sense. Now it looks like Praetoria, and what Praetoria looks like is a modern glass tower skyline. Yes, Atlas Park now looks more modern, but I preferred the retro design of the old buildings. I could see Steel Canyon getting a makeover with glass towers since that's what it's described as being, but Atlas Park was supposed to have character as well as innovation. If any part of the city kept those buildings, it should have been Atlas.

Quote:LOL.If they had finished working on an AT, it would have been announced already.
You're right, it's not at all plausible that they would finish active work on something like an AT or a powerset, let it sit there untouched and unannounced for months until closer to the scheduled release date, then put it into beta for tweaks a set amount of time before said date.
Things like that have never happened in this game. -

Wow, that wikia article is just... laughably wrong. Talk about mis-interpreting information (even if it is out of date).
