I agree. We shouldn't have to farm for hours to get content. Just make the badge for any family and people will naturally earn it as they level up.
The point of making the contact unlockable is that not everyone is supposed to have it....
[/ QUOTE ]
Considering that the result is people running out of content before they run out of levels, that idea isn't working out so well. -
Nightwing doesn't use it anymore. Batgirl and Robin use it less than Batman. That's 3, and only barely.
The only thing that doesn't fit in with CoH is that Batman is a hero with 2 sidekicks.
The point of this distinction is simple. Batman has a Hideout, the Batcave, and a Superbase, the JLA Watchtower. The Superbase system is designed to be closer to the Watchtower, and the Hideout system is being built to emulate the Batcave more.
Do you really want to consider the Bat family a supergroup? OK, sure. They're a tiny little supergroup. In that case, CoX is not going to provide anything that emulates the Batcave, since the SuperBase system in CoX doesn't emulate the Batcave very well. -
Your logic is flawed.
Green Arrow has his own base, but he uses the JLA tower for certain things. Oracle doesn't use the Batcave for anything. Oracle uses the Batcave in the same way that I use my brother's house. I visit, but I don't live there and I'm not a member of the housefhold by any useful definition.
Spoiler was only Robin when Tim Drake wasn't Robin. Yes, she counts, but only during the time that Tim Drake doesn't count.
It's like trying to say that the Fantastic Four is a large Supergroup because they've had dozens of members. No, at any given time they've had 4. That means that their total hours of membership is exactly the same as a group that's been around the same amount of time and had the same 4 people the entire time. The Fantastic Four is not a medium sized group, they're a small group. The Batcave doesn't service a Supergroup, it services 2 or 3 people and others come to visit.
The Batcave is not a Superbase. It is a Hideout. It is *exactly* what people are thinking of when they ask for hideouts. Yeah, Batman has a lot of friends. That doesn't change the fact that the Hideout system is being designed to serve the functions of the Batcave, and Superbases are being designed around larger groups. -

I'll take a look at those badges for the contacts mentioned.
[/ QUOTE ]
Could you guys check all the unlockable contacts? It just seems kinda pointless to need a badge for a contact that you wouldn't normally get until you outlevel the contact. Or maybe add some in-game hints or something, so the non-forum goers could have a chance at the contacts.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, and how about if you talk to an unlockable contact but can't access him yet, he still goes into your contact list. We already have that happen when one contact sends you to another, but that second contact doesn't have anything your level. Having the unlockables appear in your contact list would clear up a lot of confusion, plus make it easier to find them again once you did complete the requirement. -
Statesman, another thing worth looking at is the unlockable contact who requires you to have a Respec badge.
One problem is that I thought he was supposed to be the third respec. He told me to come back after I'd done a respec, and that's all I remember. His actual nature could be made more clear.
More importantly, you actually have to *pick* the respec as your reward. I've done both respec trials but taken other rewards because I didn't need a respec. Now that I know what he needs, I really don't want to do them again and take a reward I still don't need. Please find a way to let us take him as a contact no matter what reward we choose.
Most importantly, he's bugged. People are saying that they can get missions from him, but if they actually *use* their respec, then he stops giving missions. -
Yes, you do miss something.
There are several hidden contacts throughout the 30s. If you don't do the grinding to unlock them, then you'll have to grind some of those levels just to get to the new contacts when the 40+ content comes out.
Everything is optional, we already knew that. The point was that the method of choosing the option is not a good one. -
You haven't put anything in perspective. You made an odd statement that didn't affect the discussion at all. I'm not even sure what your point is supposed to be.
-
Nightwing and Oracle have their own places, and Batgirl and Spoiler aren't there nearly as much as Robin.
I can easily discount them. They're visiting, not using it as a base. At any given time, there are only 2 heroes using the Batcave as their base of operations. That's a Hideout, not a Superbase. -
Azrael was a replacement for Batman, so he wasn't there at the same time much. Spoiler/Robin, Tim/Robin, Jason/Robin were not active at the same time. Nightwing and Batgirl mainly just come to visit, they don't use it as much as the active Robin and Batman. So really, the Batcave is only used significantly by two people at any given time.
That's not a supergroup, that's a duo. The devs are adding Hideouts to the game later. The devs said Hideouts will be much better suited to 1 or 2 players. -
It's also not going to happen. There's a chance they may give us something, but nothing like that.
I *like* having a progression on my base. I like coming in every couple of days and seeing something new. It's cool to see progress. 36 million is enough so that quite a lot of people would never need any more than that.
The rate that we can upgrade our bases could use some tweaking. At 150k, a moderate sized SG can add a room every few days, then hit a wall for several weeks when they need 1.6million for a new plot. That could be evened out a bit.
There's nothing for a small SG to do inbetween building rooms. They could add more stuff in that area.
Just giving us all 36million Prestige is like starting every character at level 20. Those first 20 levels aren't perfect, I certainly wouldn't mind having a travel power for them, but I don't want to skip them completely. Superbases are the same way, the system needs some tweaking, but the early stages shouldn't completely go away. -
I agree with the original poster.
Hunting tons of grays is pretty lousy. Asking higher levels to SK you up and hunt certain guys is only a step away from power leveling.
It's just not a badge that makes sense. If you were told about it when you were in the Sharkhead level range, that would be one thing. To only find out about it when you have a choice of hunting grays or asking friends to street hunt for you, that's not well implemented. -
How about lowering the price on the smaller decorative rooms. It's nice that you can get a gigantic decorative room for 150k. However, the smallest one *also* being 150k is pretty useless. Any sane person would just use a control room for 100k instead. Make the smallest decorative room 50k and it becomes useful.
-
Guys, can we just ignore the debate about small SGs? Statesman said they're going to work on it, so that's all that matters.
There are people who want to argue about anything. Instead of talking about whether or not we should be talking about small SGs, let's just talk about small SGs. -
Do we have barstools? Barstools would be nice.

But what if you are crafting things which either are content or unlock new comtent? Then you have the best of both worlds.
[/ QUOTE ]
The reason why a lot of us don't like crafting is that it isn't fun in itself, at least not in most MMOs. The result is cool, but the 10 minutes (or hours) of sitting there doing the same thing again and again is boring. There's just no skill to it. Making the reward cooler doesn't help, doing a repetitive task that doesn't challenge you for a reward is what factory workers do. The reward makes you do it, but it still isn't enjoyable in itself.
Salvage has worked out differently from that because the only "process" is the stuff that we were doing anyway. We just go out and do missions and fight enemies like normal, but every once in awhile we get to go select our prize from the worktable. An invention system like that wouldn't really be objectionable to anyone. -
One thing I'd like? To be able to build furniture and place it for less prestige than than it costs to buy it.
I'm not even talking about useful stuff. I mean like the chairs and booktables that the architect can buy. You don't even have to make new ones, just assign recipes to the ones that can already be placed. Make them a different category so that they can be ignored. That way someone at a worktable can hide "Component Recipees" and "Ornamental Resicpees" and just see the "Detail Recipees".
It'd be cool to look around a base and see that everything in it was made by members of the SG. -
Actually, one thing that would help small SGs is to make the medical bay worth it.
As it is right now, Raids are the only reason to have a medical transporter. Since the transporter takes you to the middle of the zone instead of to the mission door, there's no reason to go to the med bay transporter instead of to the hospital.
I've seen a few SGs go through the same process. They work and work to get teleporters and a med bay. Then they find out that the Med bay has no advantage over the hospital, but it requires an extra level load. So they get rid of it and feel very disappointed that it wasn't as useful as it seemed it would be.
If the transporters could be set up to always take you to the mission door, the medical bay would be massively more useful. If you could craft a "recall to base" temp power after your base has teleporters, the teleporters would be much more useful. -
A badge, some XP, Inf, Prestige and an SO. Pretty much the same as all the other SFs, TFs, and Trials. I don't believe we got more of any of those things than you would for any other level 25 Trial.

Can't kill even minion with a +3 slotted snipe now, even with aim.
(Although that gets very very close)
Buildup does however ....
Did start doing some tests on the controller but gave up because I got bored waiting for the powers to recharge.
[/ QUOTE ]
Curious:
Is that with your old slotting from the Live server, or did you reslot it for ED?
If you reslotted for ED, what were the estra slots? Range, recharge, or something else? -

PLEASE add some or all of the great new options that Villains are receiving to Heroes' costume creator, at least for those players who own both CoV and CoH.
[/ QUOTE ]
Noted. We'll see what we can do...
[/ QUOTE ]
Having it so that only the heroes who own both games get access to the CoV costume pieces isn't the solution that I'd like *best*, but it seems like a reasonable compromise.
Thank you for taking this under consideration, Statesman. -
Huh? In a respec you start out with nothing in the powers, then you slot them.
Also, if you just hover your mouse over the power bar, the current percentages come up. -
Yes to the original question. The question in the title.
-
Does that mean that for those of us who have both(after release I mean), we won't actually need two different installations, as they're practically the same code?
[/ QUOTE ]
They are the same code. The way the devs have explained it, you start the game, pick your server, and then you see a big list of all you characters both heroes and villains. If you pick a hero, you're playing CoH. If you pick a villain, you're playing CoV. -
Yeah, it's almost as if something else is going on with powers that is distracting him.

[ QUOTE ]
Statesman has an almost purely theoretical understanding.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is unfair and untrue. Statesman plays the game. He's said he plays the game, and he's proven he plays the game. When people won the "Group with Statesman" contest at a con, plenty of people posted that he knew how to play the with a group really well.
Just because the devs use math a lot doesn't mean their knowledge is purely theoretical. That's just the most useful information for them to give us, since that's factual and their individual play sessions are just anecdotes that we could have already had ourselves.
That doesn't mean our input is worthless. They play, sometimes we play differently. I disagree with the devs on this issue, but let's not belittle them. They definitely have more than theoretical knowledge, they play the game.
