    I16 closed Beta

    [ QUOTE ]
fi they do it tactical, they release it before CO hit's the stores.
they can try and take the chance when CO is released, but i think that i16 will look like nothing after they tasted CO.
it's a 50/50 guess, but it's best to show it before CO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm treading very carefully here, but looks are not everything.

Games these days have to be innovative in gameplay as well. If it's the same old systems rehashed, then any new game released - that is like that - runs the risk of failure.

I don't expect there to be any new superhero MMO release in 2009.

It just feels like a half-[censored] job again, similar to MA. That was even delayed to add something the players really wanted adding, so why can't they do it with this?

They are basing issue 16 all about power customisation, it's what the issue is focused on, seemingly almost in it's entirety. I can't see the point of not doing it properly. There's not even going to be that many powers in the pools to actually change, a lot of them don't have colour effects, such as fitness pool.

    Why do it improperly?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because it won't fit their release schedule - CO is this year, and they're sure to want PC out before it launches.

    [/ QUOTE ]

CO is this year - at the moment.

It remains to be seen if it will actually make its September release date - never mind 2009.

  3. I saw this in Lord Kalistoh's post in the suggestions section.

Makes sense to put it here, with all due credit to LK for finding it.

    Colour customisation

  4. It's clearly possible to put various different items on the back of a character. It's just not been done by the devs - so far.

I hate to bring it up but the soon to be released CO has the features that the OP asked for - and a hell of a lot more to boot.

I'm not breaking the CO NDA by stating this. There are plenty of screenshots of CO which show this.

Perhaps our devs will respond and introduce similar back options?

  5. Hmmmm

I take a few days away from the Interweb and the game gets a sparkly makeover?, or at least it will be in i16.

I'm looking forward to this, I have to say.

The first thing I'll be making is a Rad Blaster

Go to Atlas park and divide it up among all the players who have no vet badges

And see you in an Issue or two

    [/ QUOTE ]
That would either be 1 single person.. or he's still stuck with his money

    [/ QUOTE ]

There are more new players arriving than that

    [/ QUOTE ]

For once I agree with GG

There are plenty of new players appearing in the game.

My advice would be to hang on to your infamy. I think that the next 6 months will be a pivotal point in the development of this game - for the better.
  7. [ QUOTE ]

    * How about maps which is a randomly generated maze - would really add a new element of people not knowing where a boss will spawn etc. Particularly if they are timed, does the team split up or stick together.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This would be very well recieved by me and the majority of the players that I team with on a regular basis.

The old saying goes something like, 'familiarity breeds contempt'. I may not hold the game in contempt but the analogy is the same.

After a long time playing this game I know exactly where to go on every preset map in the game - both indoor and outdoor. This is a problem for long term players and one that could be remedied by having randomly generated maps and tilesets.

Quite how this could be achieved at present is unknown but having this facility would be very refreshing indeed.

  8. If CoX brought in cel shading I would be delighted. I get the feeling that a lot of people get cel shading and oulining mixed up.

I'm not a fan of CO's outlining at all and thankfully that can be disabled. The cel shading in CO does look wonderful though and allied with CoX's more realistic style it would be a major improvement for CoX - and very possibly surpass the graphics that CO has.

All is fair in love and war - and also the MMO business.

CO has taken a few of the strengths of CoX and used them. It's only fair that CoX does the same in any upgrades they make to the game.

If the CoX devs decide to bring in variants of the CO power frames or design some of the excellent costume items that CO has, it would only be fair IMHO.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the devs upgrade this game .... as long as it's done with conviction and imagination.

    Speculation....

    [ QUOTE ]
You don't need to be scared of them

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's not what he said ....

'Deal' with is pretty much how I expect things will be when we merge.

I regularly post on a music forum that is predominantly populated by Americans and some of the nationalistic opinions there are unbelievable.

I fully expect to see quite a few cultural clashes between the EU and US communities when we merge.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
This is really nothing to be wary of. With the fusion of the forums, the English-speaking communities will get more Community Representatives looking after them (my two North-American colleagues and me)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I for one am definitely looking forward to being able to meet all of you! Although I lurk on these forums I have yet to really manage to interact with more than a handful of you.

We definitely understand the feelings of community that the EU players have and are considering a number of ideas on how to preserve that feeling of community while at the same time increasing the global community of CoH players irregardless of region.

Honestly this is one of the most exciting things for me currently going on, although I too can't wait for blue fire imps and Going Rogue. But more players are more chances for friendship and the additional perspective of you, our European compatriots, is something I personally can't wait for.

That and teasing any players from Glasgow.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Hmmm ... Cobra Sense ... tingling ....

There might be ... trouble ahead

    Issue 16

This is certainly a step in the right direction, and hopefully it's the first move in a full update to the graphics engine.

Add in some dev created arcs/missions, new or revamped zones, more power proliferation and we're going in the right direction - regardless of what CO will offer on release.

  12. The character that I play the most is Firestreak, a Fire/Fire blaster.

It's incredible fun to play and goes from mega damage dealing Demigod to one hitpoint in the blink of an eye
  13. Cobra_Man

    Kerensky

    [ QUOTE ]
You realise it's considered taboo to go to another MMO's board and tell people to sign up to your game right?

    I doubt Kerensky would approve.

    [/ QUOTE ]

How did you manage to come up with that, from Heyman saying we should sign up and say hi to Kerensky?
  14. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Since when does taking a train level you up? You can go straight from the starting point to the station/to King's Row and run towards the MA without getting a single xp point.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The point is, you have to do something in the game world before you can level up. If you are a villain that something would probably involve repeated trips back to the hospital or a very long swim all the way around the coast of Mercy Island.

And they point is, only an experienced player would know where to go, and Positron's intention was that a new player would be able to level entirely using MA; not an experienced one who already knew thier way around.

So to remove the MA buildings from the starter zones would require a fundemental change of policy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Posi has already demonstrated that he will tweak MA, this wouldn't exactly be without precedent.

The AE buildings do need to be removed from the starter zones, and maybe a small limit put on entry to them would help as well, such as level 8, 10 or 12.
  15. Cobra_Man

    I miss .........

I miss pre IO and MA days.

Life in Paragon City was a lot simpler back then.

My broadcasts were ever few mins for about 5mins. 2 of us broadcasting from the SG. Well inside the rules that i was given by the Devs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Reading that, you can interpret it that you either broadcast your message a maximum of 2-3 times, or you broadcast it repeatedly for 5 minutes solid, with a few minutes inbetween?

    Can you clarifiy?

    [/ QUOTE ]

1 broadcast, wait a 2 or 3 mins, 1 broadcast, wait 2-3 mins 1 broadcast. that was it. Oh and my SG leader mate did a different broadcast (So it said different things) at the same time i did mine.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Assuming that your mate made his broadcast at the same frequency you did, that's 6 broadcasts in 5-6 minutes, for the same SG?

Although it's within the 'rules', I would say that it's too many IMHO.

You really only need to make 1 broadcast every 10 minutes or so.

I can see why some people would get annoyed at that amount of spam.

again people. loosing the thread here, this is not a dig at farming and MA, there is a thread on that btw

Remember we are discussing the way newbies are treated when coming to the game and how rude some player have become to these new character purely for the fact they are new to the game and ask the odd question or broadcast a little.

    Please read my first entry

    [/ QUOTE ]

I did read your OP, and I feel that the animosity that you experienced when using broadcast is directly related that fact that many people now use broadcast for farming purposes.

This has only started since the AE building appeared in Atlas. I've seen many broadcasts in Atlas over the years, with people asking players to join their SG.

I can't recall seeing a player - never mind many players - getting upset about it.

The only thing that springs to mind is the frequency that made the broadcast. How often did you make the broadcast and for how long?

    [ QUOTE ]

Remove the AE building from Atlas.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think they shopuld keep it - but add an XP cap to each AE building to match the zones they're in - any level would still earn Inf and drops, but the XP would stop once you reached the level the zone caps at.
You could still level 1-50 only using the AE system, but you'd at least have to see other zones along the way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Atlas is 1-6.

A team doing most MA arcs in Atlas AE would go well past level 6, leaving them to complete the MA TF whilst getting no XP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then move to the AE building in Kings Row

    [/ QUOTE ]

That wouldn't help - unless you start the MA TF in Kings, which is level 5-9, and even then you are very likely to outlevel that zones level using many of the MA TF's.

You can't just move to another AE building and carry on the same MA TF that you've started in another zone, and you all need to ne in the same zone to play the same MA TF.

The reason to remove the AE building from Atlas remains, unless everyone is alright with Atlas being a farming zone....

We need more new members to the game to liven it up, and to get that we need these players to be polite, bare with the newbies, and damn well help!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

A lot of it would go if the devs would listen to us and remove the MA buildings from the starter zones. There's really no need at all to have an MA in every single zone...

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Spot on FFM.

AE buildings should quite simply not be in a starter zone. As the OP says Atlas is now indeed a farming zone, which is a sad state of affairs.

I have no gripe with farming, and indeed use certain farm maps to set the challenge higher for me and my SG/Coalition mates. The higher rate of inf and xp is incidental to me.

The animosity that the OP encountered to broadcasting for his SG has more than likely been compounded by the amount of broadcasts in Atlas for MA teams, which many people find annoying.

    The solution is obvious.

Remove the AE building from Atlas.

The devs should simply chalk it up to experience and admit that it was an error putting one there in the first place.
  22. Cobra_Man

    I miss .........

    New dev created arcs/missions.

    Power proliferation.

    The old Hollows.

    Pre nerf PvP.

    Pre MA CoX.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
It needs more gothic style - like the Bloody Bay buildings, and those narrow turning streets.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is what I would go for.

It could be explained by having a storyline and/or TF that the entire neighbourhood is reverting to point in time in the past - perhaps 100 years or so in the past - due to <insert enemy group here> activity.

I would lose the fog and go for the endless night scenario with archaic street lighting and NPC's in period costume clothing.

Maybe even put a few new mobs into the zone as well, or just new to CoH like the ghost pirates from CoV or a variation thereof.

All it needs is a little imagination from our devs and this zone would become a lot more popular.
