Since the execution of both the character and the story are paramount and execution of said story is evoked through the medium of internet gameplay as a sort of virtual performance art, I've decided to call mine a "thespian's ongoing online novella".
Since that's so long, I'll just abbreviate it to T.O.O.N. and assume everyone who's anyone knows what I mean.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll allow this if you continue to use the punctuation to denote it as an acronym.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll do that if you promise to put periods into "radar" and "laser" and so on. -

I use toon, simply because my "characters" exist in the pen and paper rpg world. The ones I've created here simply don't have the same feel or intensity.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well who's fault is that?
Each one of my characters has a background and motivation, even if I haven't committed them to text.
[/ QUOTE ]
So do mine, but when you get right down to it, they don't matter. A pen & paper character's background and motivation are important because they'll be integrated in the campaign. This character would do this because of X event in his past, but he won't do that because he's afraid of Y due to Z, and so on. The constructed personality does more than shape the character. It has an effect on the course of events.
In this game, whatever personality you concoct doesn't really have all that much effect. It might influence the powers you pick some. It might affect the contacts you decide to run. That's about it. The game itself progresses about the same way to about the same denouement with a personality you layered on top of your guy for aesthetics.
In a game like Fallout or Bloodlines or Fable or Star Control 2 or Neverwinter Nights or something, where the in-game decisions you make have an effect on the outcome of stories, even if it's just the side quests, those feel like characters. -

I'd agree with this 100%. -
I said "toon" yesterday... in the Forum Cartel channel!
Ha! -
I would if what they sent me was a consumable like pens. Lunchboxes don't really get used up.

[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I was a little dissapointed with the whole "free respec every issue" idea too... it's always bad when people get expectations of free stuff, because then it isn't appreciated.
[/ QUOTE ]
The other day the American Society for Microbiology sent me a free insulated lunchbox thing, y'know, the canvas kind. I think it's a nice one, too. Out of the blue. I didn't renew my subscription. I hadn't submitted an abstract for anything. I just came home and there was a box with a free lunchbox with their logo stenciled on the side.
By the above logic, I wouldn't have appreciated it because it was free. In fact, I appreciated it quite a bit. I thought it was very nice for them to send me this little bonus doohickey for no reason other than I was a member. Not even an expensive member. I pay grad student dues. I'm more disposed to renew my subscription now than I was before because they sent me this little free whatchit. -
Wouldn't he be better as a villain?

Send him a copy of the book from which your avatar was cropped (and squashed).

I didn't know posts this far back still existed.
[/ QUOTE ]
Threads with red name posts are preserved by the system. Geko posted early in the thread so it's survived the periodic purges. -
Dangit, I didn't see there couldn't be a PC in the screenshot until I'd already sent it. And I have one that WOULD be admissible. Hell.

There's no pleasing some people.

Some people like to "act" outraged to get attention, too.
So they can never be pleased.

Outrageous! -
My ninjas/FF Waning Crescent, mutant with a traditional death cult upbringing.
-
This is my necro/poison Castaway Jones, and this is my bots/FF Forward Observer. I think Forward Observer is going to be replaced by my growing Ninja/FF Waning Crescent, but I don't have a pic handy. I'll post it tonight.

Protection vs. Knockback, Knock Up, Repel, Stun, Sleep, Hold, Immobilize, Confuse and Fear. Pretty much the whole suite.
[/ QUOTE ]
Cataloguing, this means that two out of six Hero Archetypes will have some form of major status protection available archetype-wide, namely Tankers and Scrappers, and three out of five Villains will, namely Brutes, Stalkers and Dominators.
Hmm...
Any chance of putting something like this into Defiance to even up the numbers? -
[ QUOTE ]
(For those who are curious, I dumped all of my immoblize powers and squeezed Stamina into the build. I might re-add the single target immobilize later, but we'll see. So far I've been using Seeds of Confusion as my bread and butter.)
[/ QUOTE ]
Is it good, though, that so much of the set's strength revolves around this one power? I think it says something noteworthy that this one still-workable AoE control can have such a dramatic effect on the Plant Control set when compared with the others. If they want to improve the lot of Dominators, it seems to me this is the angle they should be attacking from, not mez resistance. -

Can a corr do an AoE sleep,
[/ QUOTE ]
I really don't think a corr would bother with an aoe sleep, because Brutes and MMs and corrs all have aoe attacks, and sleeps are going to be broken almost as soon as they are applied. They just aren't a realistic control option on a large team.
[/ QUOTE ]
I refer you to Siren's Song. -
[ QUOTE ]
That said, I wouldn't mind a tweak to our AoE holds - the triple whammy of acc penalty, low base duration and ridiculous recharge time totally gut those powers and make them broken, imo.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is why I haven't enjoyed any control-based character since Issue 5. When they gave controllers Containment, they neutered the hell out of them control-wise as the price, and most of the time Dominators have it worse than Controllers do. I've tried Dominators twice, but without Domination the control just isn't good enough for a guy who grew up on old-school Controllerism. -

So does anyone still have a rock?
Will the rocks return someday?
[/ QUOTE ]
I still have a rock on at least one character. -
[ QUOTE ]
Worse, sometimes on pick up groups you'll have people freaking out "OMG! Invisible mobs are attacking me! My client is bugged! (Character logging out in 30...29...(dead)...28)
[/ QUOTE ]
Usually just zoning out of the mission and back in will fix that bug for me. -

If you check out your status bar, you'll see an icon for the blinding. Come I7, it may even have a text component, like "Taunted" does.
To Test with you!

I think it's "SCREWED!" if I remember correctly. -

Patron and Ancilery powers in general aren't intended to be uber since they totally break the purpose of the AT. Since you don't get them until the 40s you can't enhance them as much either. Just be grateful that every villain has the potential for a pet, that alone increases their DPS and acts as an aggro reducer.
[/ QUOTE ]
I heard a rumor that pet recharge isn't enhanceable, which means the pets will be up less than a third of the time if it's true. Just a rumor, though, I haven't checked into it. -

FYI, all you "chum" fans, you need to know what that word means. "Chum" is the bait used to lure sharks, composed of ground bits of meat (usually fish) and blood. Water is "chummed" by scattering this mixture into the water, and the scent of it then attracts sharks.
I'm guessing the reason it was changed to "Bile" spray was for more correct representation.
[/ QUOTE ]
We know what chum is. You know what bile is? It's a fat emulsifier. It helps lipids dissolve in water in the intestines. It's not any more accurate... and about 300 times less cool.
Viva la Chum Spray! -

Bile Spray. Bile Spray!
Bile Spray is wrong on every level.
