I was thinking more about how they would likely show up.

I'm sure you've run an escort mission where you are met bey wave after wave of ambushes on your way to the door.

How fun would it be to keep getting TPed back to the spawn point every time a new ambush spawned?

I didn't say that, and I'm the one that started the thread.

The only thing I suggested was MAYBE increase the base critical chance to 10%, and I also said in the same paragraph that I wasn't convinced it was needed or that it wouldn't be overpowered.

If anything, the stalker buffs have done nothing but make stalkers LESS unique than they were before. Not in the idea behind them, but in the way people are actually playing them now.

My level 33 Electric/Energy stalker (who I am enjoying greatly btw) does not have Placate, and I have no plans to take it. I also rarely use AS while Hidden anymore.

What it seems to have done, in an effort to appease stalker players, is make stalkers more like scrappers and less like a unique AT of their own.

This is kind of what was bugging me as well. And it sums up what I was trying to say better than I did.

The most annoying part of the whole deal (to me at least) is that stalkers were given the mechanic that was originally unique to scrappers, and then their version of it was given a huge improvement while the scrapper version remained exactly the same. It's an old issue, but the recent buffs have brought it to light again.

What I'd like to see happen is for scrappers' base crit chance to be increased to 10% to match the stalker version, but for stalkers to keep the increased chance on teams and the ability to decide when to crit via Hide and Placate. However, I'm not convinced that doing so wouldn't skew things too far back in scrappers' favor, especially with the scrapper ATO proc increasing crit chance. That might be overpowered if it based it on 10% instead of 5%, in fact I suspect it would be.

Johnny, this thread PALES in comparison to the amount of time and energy you've spent whining about tanks. You still hold the crown as far as tears shed over perceived unfairness goes.

For the record, I don't think the stalker buffs were unfair to scrappers. Nor do I think that they weren't both warranted and deserved. Just that it blurs the line between them a little more than I would have liked.

Other than the questionable crit chance increase, I can't think of any way to improve scrappers without unbalancing things again. I'm also not under the impression that it is really necessary either.

Just voicing a relatively minor concern I had. Thanks for the input guys.
  4. With the recent stalker changes I started looking at the niche roles the 4 melee archetypes are supposed to fill.

It seems to me that after stalkers got their (admittedly much needed) buff, scrappers are losing their niche.

I read a report of a Street Justice/Ninjitsu stalker soloing a Rikti Pylon in 3:52 with no temps, no inspirations, and no Incarnate powers. I've never heard of a scrapper doing it that fast.

So, now we have brutes surpassing scrappers in both survivability and high end damage output, especially with the sets that have damage auras and lots of AoE.

And with the stalker changes, we have stalkers surpassing scrappers in single target damage, while the survivability gap has been significantly closed. Not only that, but stalkers have the same inherent ability as scrappers and do it better (base crit chance of 10% as opposed to 5, increase to crit chance on teams, and the ability to autocrit when hidden)

Now, I'm not calling for a nerf to stalkers. Far from it, because I'm having a blast with my Electric/Energy stalker. I'm just concerned that the original "solo specialist" is being outshined by both of the two other ATs that do much the same thing. I'm not so sure that the higher base damage is enough to keep the playing field level, since brutes and now stalkers are both capable of outdamaging them with their lower base damage.

Maybe it's just a perception thing, but I feel that scrappers are getting a bit of a shaft here.

    Anyone else feel similarly?

For the record I would also enjoy being wormholed, as well.
So, when you're trying to escort a hostage out of a mission you can keep being repeatedly TP Foed back to where you started? No, that doesn't sound incredibly annoying at all.

Also, NPCs are notoriously stupid about how they use their powers. How many times will the GMs get petitions because an NPC teleported someone into the map geometry?

Nit Pick: Spectral Wounds doesn't set up Containment, it gets extra damage from it.

And Containment works with any pool power or APP damage power on mezzed targets as well.

The point is I'm tired of there being absolutely nothing unique to any AT anymore.

If Illusion is ported Controllers will no longer have a unique power set. Just like when Scrappers eventually get Ninjitsu Stalkers will no longer have a unique set.

Many people think that is a GOOD thing. I disagree. I'm still firmly of the opinion that every AT should have one powerset that can only be used by that AT. It's never going to happen, because people will whine until they get their way if the devs tried, but that doesn't change my opinion.

So, go ahead and pine for a port of a set that makes the Dominator inherent pointless. You'll probably get your way eventually. And I'll just have to be annoyed because the uniqueness of something is gone.

It is a power set, and is described as such. Power SET. As in, primary or secondary for a character. Those are locked in at character creation and cannot be changed. Ever.

You should know just by having played the game for a while that a new power set cannot be used on a pre-existing character.

Sorry, but if you bought it and got pissed off because you couldn't use the set with the blaster you created last year, you have no one to blame but yourself.

    I laugh at your AV.

    My Rad/Sonic Defender solos GMs.

Corruptors get a set that only has 3 powers that will Scourge.
Tanks get a set that only 3 powers trigger Gauntlet.
Scrappers get a set that only 3 powers will crit.
Brutes get a set with only 3 powers that build Fury.

The devs wouldn't do that to any of those ATs, I think it unlikely that they'd do it to Dominators.

Generally "play" stuff. Even as I make more characters I am hesitant to move away from virtue because I get the feeling that I am going to end up in a crowd that doesn't like to have fun. And no, "grinding" isn't fun. It is a conditioned behavior shaped to continually force you to play the game for aspirations that you'll have fun later.
I look at things much the same. Sometimes I'll speed run something if I need it for an accolade and dislike the content in question (Numina, I'm looking at YOU!), but I generally like to play the game as it was meant to be played (more or less)

The argument about min/maxing perplexes me. I guess this is just a holdover from PnP days and players who generally weren't fun to play with, but I NEVER saw IOs like that.
I min/max quite a bit. BUT....I ALWAYS min/max within my character concept. I'm not taking Blaze Mastery on my Claws/Regen scrapper just because it is the "best" APP, it doesn't fit his concept.

I refuse to take Gloom on every damn brute I create simply because it's an overpowered single target attack. I'll take it ONLY if it fits my concept.

The same goes for all my characters. I couldn't give a crap less what the most powerful option is, if it doesn't fit my character I won't be taking it.

Because I create characters, not collections of numbers designed to make other collections of numbers get higher as fast as possible.
  12. That's pretty ambitious, Liz.

I could go for it, but I won't be expecting it to happen. Especially since the War Walls still have a storyline reason to exist: The Rikti aren't gone yet.

    I could live with this.

Caveat: Any VIP that drops to premium loses the ability to customize, but anything they've already customized at that time remains customized.

    Sound fair?

I still think it should be free to everyone, but if it HAS to be a storebought/free to VIP thing, I could live with this set up.

Things I understand to be released in the market tomorrow as per Zwill's wording:

    1)Beast Mastery
    2)Prestige Power Slide

    Those two were obvious.

3)Female version of the previously male only Gunslinger pieces.
    4)Heavyset/Fat character models.

These two were less obvious. Zwill mentioned making sure his costume on his shiny new avatar sufficiently covered his girth. Sounds like a reference to a heavyset character model to me.

That final battle inside the volcano is cool but the TF doesn't get nearly as much play time for all the reasons listed above.

Now I am not suggesting we just drop the TF.. Replace it and let us battle someone besides Council.. Tsoo or Family come to mind almost immediately and since defeating Tsoo Sorcerors earns a badge required for another accolade I'd go with them over the Family. They could always move Hess to Ouroborus like they did with the old Calvin Scott and the Old Positron TF so it would be available for anyone interested but this would give us a little variety in the 20-30 level range.
Okay, except for the fact that if you ditch Hess, suddenly Striga has nothing tying the loose ends together.

The Hollows is wrapped up by the Cavern of Transcendence Trial, Croatoa is wrapped up by the Katie Hannon TF, and Striga culminates in the Hess TF.

Those task forces were intentionally designed to be the end of the story arcs in the zones they are found in. If you remove Hess, Striga no longer has a culmination to it's story line and it just kind of stops after Lars Hansen (whose arc would have to be rewritten to remove references to the events in the Hess TF)

Those 3 zones are when the decent writing in the game begins, and I don't think they are really in need of a revamp or outright removal.

We need more stuff in the 30-40 range. We can go from 20 to 30 now without ever setting foot in Striga or Croatoa, and never running even one mission of legacy content. The 30 to 40 range is still pretty devoid of anything new to do.

You mean other than the fact that Illusion only has 3 powers in the whole set that would benefit at all from Domination?

Blind, Deceive, and Flash are the only powers in Illusion that Domination would have any affect on at all.

It has: 2 invisibility powers, a ranged attack, a taunting trio of pets, a fear-inducing pet (that won't benefit from domination because the fear isn't coming from you), and the standard control pet.

Illusion would need a bit of rethinking to work for Dominators. Doesn't make much sense to port a set to an AT when that AT's inherent ability is useless for 66% of the set. That's like giving scrappers a set in which only 3 powers are capable of critical hits.
  18. I concur.

I like the trials, but I don't want to spend ALL my time doing trials any more than I want to spend all my time doing TFs.

DA is pretty cool from what I've seen thus far.

But, there are a significant number of Free and Premium players who are, in fact, not paying for the product.

They are getting quite a bit for free. In fact, they are getting the entire damn game circa 2005 for free. The only thing a free player doesn't get for free is the stuff from Issue 8 and later. And they still get the majority of the content released since then for free.

    That's pretty cool.

Also, since one Unstoppable caps pretty much everything, stacking it would be pretty pointless, even if it was possible. You're never going to get over the hard cap for resistance. Not even if you had 30 Unstoppables active at once.

Would you use Paragon Points to buy Epic/Power Pool customization?
    No.

Like power customization, this is something that needs to be available to all players for free, regardless of their account status.

It would be a bit of a slap in the face if we had to pay extra for something the devs have been saying they want to give us for several years now. And since APPs and PPPs are available to everyone equally the ability to customize them should be too, just like our regular powers.

    Quote:
I also recall, with my very very bad memory, that when a poster once asked if we could have power customization *at all* we were told a flat out "No." That it could not be done.
    Your memory IS pretty bad.

We weren't told it couldn't be done, we were told it was too time consuming to do, since at the time it was asked there were a grand total of like 20 people working on the game.

When more people were hired to work on the game, power customization was one of the first things they were tasked with....and we still had to wait more than a year to get it.
  25. Sounds to me like if you bought the shirt but did not specifically purchase the heels as well then you did not actually pay for the item you lost.

If you specifically DID purchase the heels as well, I'd say you have cause for legitimate complaint. If you got them as a result of a bug when you bought the shirt(as the GM is inferring), it's a different story.
