  1. This board is for discussing the technical side of AE. The board you want to post this info on would be here:

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=602

    Good luck with your arc!
  2. Sadly, I was unable to make the usual Sunday outing I attend of the MA SG - shame, some of these sounded like they were fun. Oh well, the Corr I ported over from another server wasn't ready yet anyways. I hope to be there next time!

  3. Poster by Soul Storm

    Against the WickerWork Khan!
    Arc number 346904
    @Clave Dark 5
    Length: medium
    Neutral (leans heroic though)
3 missions (small, large outdoor, small)
    23 to 50
    Custom foes on all maps

"Journey to Pandan Earth (a somewhat-parallel Earth where pandas are the sentient race) to save a princess from their deadliest villain The WickerWork Khan (or is he?) and his army of wicker warriors! [23rd - 50th level - AV, Elite Boss, Timed Mission - SFMA]"

Ever wonder what a parallel Earth populated by panda bears instead of humans would look like? Sure you have! Ever wondered what it would be like if that world was ruled by a near-parallel CoH/V villain who creates wicker puppets and a panda bear princess had contacted you for help because said villain wanted her for his bride? Again - you know you have!

First mission has custom foes, second has them again plus an AV, third has a different set of customs plus an EB - it is also a timed mission. This was meant to be at least a little challenging so gear up a tougher/higher level toon and/or make sure your difficulty settings are low (it is solo-able that way, my 25th level stalker didn't die once; bring inspirations!).

I had a lot of fun with designing my customs and hope you enjoy it as well. Any and all feedback highly welcomed!

And a big thanks goes to Soul Storm for designing the above poster - he's just that kinda great guy! You can find his poster thread here.
  4. Hi! I'd be thrilled if you were to take a gander at one of the arcs in my sig or especially if you took a shot at my newest

    "Against The WickerWork Khan!" #346904

which I haven't gotten to seriously posting up just yet (because I just finished it last night). It has an AV so it's kind of tough, but doable certainly as I've soloed it on a 25th level stalker (I think the boss setting may have dropped him to an EB at the time though).

    Thanks for your consideration.
  5. In under the wire!

Here are one of the two groups of customs that appear in my latest arc,

"Against the WickerWork Khan!", number 346904.

The arc basically pretty much nothing but a show case for the custom group I designed* to answer the question "what if there was a parallel world where panda bears were the dominant life form and they had their own version of the ClockWork King who made his puppets from bamboo fibers instead of metal and uses them to rule the panda world?" I think it would go something... like.... this...

Minions: In front is either a WickerWork Shinai (Katana/Regen) or a WickerWork Splinter (Spines/Regen); behind is a Lantern Warrior (Archery/Fire Blast)

Lieutenants: Lacquered Warrior (Martail Arts/Invuln) or (DB/Invuln)

    Boss: Lacquered Shogun (Broad Sword/Invuln)

Named Boss: The WickerWork Khan (AV, Mind Control/Psionic Assault)

*(that said, I have still found it pretty playable, even with an AV; my 25th level stalker did just fine fighting him on low settings, so don't let him scare you, just be ready)

Yeah, my 3 arcs have something like 126, 56, 25 plays, in order of when they were published (guess which one was current when the MA rewards took a hit and the crazy rumors started to fly). That's why I think we need to set out sights lower these days. Realistically, I'm guessing that a real "break" would be getting a Dev's Choice or something similar, although I'm not sure the notoriety would "trickle down" to all an author's arcs (one can hope though).

I'd be curious to know how well the arcs that only recently got the Dev's kiss on the brow have fared, I may have to go look that up when I get a chance.

As for working the PC arcs into the search tabs - I love the idea, but they were based on such a small number of player's choices that I dunno how the devs would receive the notion of that extra work. Can't hurt to try though.

Being able to sweep all the foes standing around after you've just gutted one of them adds to a squishy stalker's survivability.

BU+AS=Target dead (or nearly so), but also="Everyone's after me!", so a Sweep right then will finish off the first target if he's not dead yet (or get him that much closer) and protect you from incoming attacks for a few more seconds.

Having BU and AS as part of another combo seems to me to help you out if you miss your Sweep by missing with Ablative - you get the consolation prize of Empower by pulling Placate, which cannot miss (assuming I have all the orders of the combos right in my head).

How does one even define "break" these days? How many plays are average, how many are above average and so on? I haven't gotten any plays going on three weeks now.

I think I recall you saying you've had a total of 40 plays across all of your arcs - maybe by today's standards (post AE changes that chased a lot of farmers away) that was your "break".

    Something like this for me.

I'm not a gamer, never cared much for video games after the initial exposure/explosion in the 80s, they took up too much time (and still do) while offering palid fun at best. I've never played another MMO and when this one dies (r something happens and I quit on my own), I'll never play anther one because I doubt it could offer the same amount of fun as described above.

I have tried several things to make this work: changing the object; adding a 2nd collection; removing the collection and then adding it back in. No glow - no sound.

Anyone see this before? Anyone have any ideas?
The only solid advice I have to offer is send a bug report, I've never seen that happen before.

If anything, I'd be stuck which one to use. I'm thinking to move a Rad/Rad Corr over for this group and renaming her, yet I hate to lose one of my original three toons - that makes two names I can't decide between right there.

And aside from all that, remeber, the dev's promised extra special milk and cookies to the ATs who stay true to their original sides, meaning that no changing goodie-two-shoes Brute would ever see those. Who knows, it might make a difference.

That's what I've seen, anecdotaly. PvP players can't be bad players or they'd never survive PvP - so they make good PUG members.

Untrue! You forget the fear that an AS can raise in the nearby survivors.

But yeah, if AoEs (that cause damage) are your thing, then stalkers are not for you. I only have one toon I made as an AoE monster and he's fun and all, but it's just not my raison d'etra in this game (neither, obviously, is min-maxing, DPS or XP/sec).

I still think stalkers are far less loser-tastic than they are made out to be; like any powerset combo, some do less ZOMG-SPECTACULAR than others, but they are all eminently playable. But obviously this is all getting down to matter of personal play-style choice at this point.

In average, corruptors seems to be the most balanced ones.
Playing redside 95% of the time as I do, I have never seen that.

Getting back to stalkers - one reason I feel they've always been thought of so "lolstalkers" (even when not deserved) is because of the Brute AT. They're a button-masher's dream AT and, far as I can tell, are only matched in solo DPS, survivability and so on awesome-itude by MMs. Being easier to play than MMs, they tend to be THE AT of choice for a lot of players, especially the lazier ones (no offense, I'm not trying to paint all brutes that way, just some). (I'm guessing I've just stoked a lot of fury bars... )

If stalkers had been somehow in the mix of blue-side, I don't think their reputation would have been so rotten for so long. I could be wrong on this since I don't play blueside much though.

Always a good idea, the list of "romance", "comedy", etc. is too generic I think.

I don't think there's an elegant formula to this, beyond actual admission from the arc author - and then we'd be taking their word on it (assume honesty here).

My only suggestion might be by going from the "first published" arc? It focuses on "new releases" vs the relative experience of the author, yes, but it doesn't exclude them either. Either way, it's the "arc" that's arguably new in this case (unless, of course, you get someone who unpubs/repubs...), and that would lend itself to review, rather than focusing on the author.

If you needed a definition for "new author", I guess one set of criteria would be:

    a. First arc published within the last 2 months
    b. No more than three arcs
    c. No more than 50 plays TOTAL across all arcs (the number is variable, but the concept is that the person hasn't been marketed well and could use the highlight)
Worth tossing in here: some us publish an arc before it's really done so we can earn tickets off the interminable play-testing. So I migt have an arc up for a month before it's really "ready to play" (which in fact I do right now) which throws off using publishing date as a metric.

Then again, if I wanted to toss it into the ring for this contest (were I a new author), since the arc has had no plays other than myself, I could pretty simply unpublish it (after making sure I saved the final version!) and republish it to get a new date on it.

In some ways I think this is about the only solid method we have to define a "new" arc. "New author" would have to be part of that, something like "first arc published within the last two months" or something.

I agree. Please - don't think we're coming in here to gang up on you and tell you you look funny and have a big nose or anything, your this arc shows definite yuletide potential!

I just realized it might be taken like that...

You're right about the squishiness factor; far as the damage thing goes, didn't someone crunch a buncha numbers and figure out that stalkers now average higher DPS than scrappers because of that chance for crit from teaming? Maybe that's my inner stalker-fan lying to me again...
