  1. Just a quickj note about my arc A.E.'s Premium Quality Mission: "guaranteed qualityyyLOADING ERROR 0.000459 ID#: 101165:

In the MA window it may come up saying it has AVs or an elite boss in it - LIES! I went over the arc with a fine toothed comb, deleted all the bosses and added them back and the message still came up. I ended up sending a bug report and was told it's a bug they're looking into. So play without fear, k?
  2. /em raisehand

Yep, that was me, the frequent MA author who had no idea about this. I'll join as soon as I get to log on again, thanks for letting me know about it.

I don't denigrate their skill, just what they use it for - grinding. I personally find it pretty tedious work, something akin to raking my yard.

You have fun raking, I'll have fun only picking up a few handfuls of leaves while admiring the day or something.

I've never heard that from anyone either.

In my experience, a fair number of folks have this power, we all buff each other before starting the mission and then we promptly forget to use it again later until we're standing around between missions later. The one time I've seen where we did think to re-use it was because we'd wiped and wanted every extra bit of help we could find.

It's a nice power but not as really really useful as Ninja Run - a close-ish second though.

Pessimistic like to imagine cliffs everywhere and will happily tell you you've already fallen off one.

There's still a heck of a lot of fun to be had in the AE, and even some great loot and XP to boot, if DarknessEternal is to be believed (I've seen some of that myself as well).

If you decide later that you want a different travel power you can always take it later on or during a respec.

MA pack has some good costume pieces in it as well. The new robes have multiple applications, the different padded/wrapped hand/foot options are great for all sorts of characters and the new half-helm is one of the best helmet options I've seen due to its shape and customization options. So you're getting a good all-round pack, not just a great travel power.
This is pretty much what I was going to say. I love Ninja Run and have been using the magic costume parts like mad.
  7. MY playtime's rather curtailed atm so I can't promise I'll get to it, but others might appreciate it. If nothing else, this time you could do it the way you think it should be.
  8. If you could give a run-thru of my latest thread I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Against the WickerWork Khan! #346904

Seeing as how you're high level the AV shouldn't bother you as I've been able to solo him on a 25th level stalker (set low of course). He is an AV mind you, but not a silly-hard one. Here's my thread abut it if you're interested: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=203192

    Thanks for your consideration!

I hope you petitioned them when you caught them....

Anyways - in regard to playing at off-hours, some servers are positivly DEAD at those hours, so if you think you'll be on a lot at say 3 AM, choose carefully.

  12. The devs (or a dev, not sure) spelled it out something like this:

"we're making a quick fix for the time being until we can put in the time to code up a real solution." (note - not actual quote)

So be patient, things will hopefully improve.

And BTW - the "ugly stepdaughter" syndrome isn't warrented here as much as some players seem to think so; perceptions can be wrong. Some people still think stalkers are a terrible AT, for example.

    True words.

My last arc was published on the Dec. 27th or so. I submitted it for Bubbawheat's then-running Player's Choice thing and got a whopping four plays. Three five-star ratings and one I dunno-what, leaving me with a total of four stars. It hasn't been touched since (the four-star curse strikes again!).

You really have to work to sell your arcs these days. A thread like this does nothing, really, you have to go door to door and knock on a lot of doors.

I've never heard of that channel, is that the name I should look for it under, "MA Arc Finder"? Is it for advertising your own arcs or putting together teams (cross-server, probably not) or what exactly?

That's right, we now have our own site, which can be found here. And with the new site comes a slew of new features, including past reviews, a description of the reviewers involved, and a place for you to add your comments about the various arcs of the AE.

On top of all that, we will also have a visible queue for submitted arcs, to make it easier than ever to see which arcs are next up on the block!
It seems to be working for me, although there's not much listed yet; archives and so on have yet to be fed it it looks like. I really need to start making good use of this...

    You sold me right there.

Really, although we players like to have original things, I think some MM sets based on pre-existing models/creatures would probably be pretty popular and easier to make since they don't have to draw up new creatures. Then again I'm no dev-type so wadda I know?

Well, now we know what the coming storm is! We've only got a bit more than 2 years until the moon crashes into the earth! I don't suppose the game designers knew about that, but there *is* a reason we don't see satellites with polar orbits in the solar system...

That'd be a great name for a robot toon with a Grav powerset...

If there aint no hot sauce or salsa on them kittens then that's a worse failure than any I could inflict on players.

Having considered all of the suggestions above, I think I'm going with Dr. Wishbone's idea of not making it a must-fail after all, although I will still set it up in a way that players can fail it, like any other. I had already worked out the return text in my head should some crafty player(s) find a way around whatever insta-fail I set up and it seems to me that it would be easiest and least one-star attracting to just reverse the fail/success text. Much as I like to believe in "artist choice above all, the public be damned!", I am not above stooping a little to keep the mob happy (next I'll be planning to put in some CGI chipmunks and blue cat-people), plus it actually will work better that way story-wise.

BUT. Eva's idea there is perfect for another arc I have in the works that is supposed to have a must-fail mish in it and is written totally just to please me. As I am basing on themes from recent David Lynch films, I don't expect anyone to enjoy it anyways. :3

If anyone has any more ideas or thoughts on any of this, feel free. I tend to work slowly on arcs so if you come up with an idea that grabs me it won't be too late.

  20. A lot of good responses for me to consider here,Dr. Wishbone's "tell 'em they failed anyway" is something I'll really have to look at as yes I know that no matter how much I tell you a failed mish is at the heart of the story, someone somewhere will tell me it's stupid and I deserve a one-star for wasting their time and I'm the reason no one plays MA arcs and I kick puppies.*

    *(simply not true, it's kittens)
  21. Hi, I'm plotting an arc and I need a way to make one mission in it at least nearly success-proof (like I need to have my arcs even more ignored than they are now, I know, but it really IS part of the story!). Anyone got ideas? Here's what I've come up with so far:

    1) A boss you fight is one tough mother so he defeats you (that does pull a "MISSION FAILED", yes?). I consider this a bit too mean, what with the debt.

    2) Said boss, set near the 'front' of a small map, flees at the first punch.

    3) A defendable object - I hear these almost never work out and the foes always get to it before you can stop them.

    4) Some crazy to-do list like click on 37 glowies with long timers spread out over a huge map and a really short timer on the mission.

    5) Uh... profit????

The whys and wherefores at this point in the arc are a bit open so I can no doubt find a way via text to make it fit, so any suggestion is good.

Thanks for listening and for pondering my question!

Don't feel too bad, I spent too much time not long ago trying to figure out how to remove a single foe from a custom set, not realizing I could just go and delete him from the "custom ritters" list under "My Creations" screen.

Sometimes these things are simple to deduce, but I think there might be something said for being able to simply click a button right there and do it.
  23. I've done pretty well with a Fire/Traps. I'll have to take a look at Fire/Dark someday too.
  24. MMs tend to play like rollercoasters, they're great, they're slow, they're great, they're slow, etc. The 20s before you get the big bot are slow. Once you get him it's still not amazing until you slot him up and get that second upgrade - then it's all smooth sailing.
